DP
I'm expecting my new computer to be delivered any time now and just wondered if FM was optimised for quad core processors? will it run any faster on a quad core than if i had a dual core processor? rekluse
Depends how many things you have running. If your simply running FM then quad, dual, single really won't make much of a difference. It's only noticeable when your running multiple applications at the same time. At least that's how I understand it when I was deciding between dual and quad core myself years ago. N^G
i could run all the leagues in fm08 with my quad core machine overclocked to 3.5ghz. I cant run nearly so many on my wifes dual core, so the quad is well worth it
russ the womble
As I understand it, if an application is optimised for quad cores then it will have a sort of 'multiple processes' configuration so that it keeps all cores busy, whereas something that isnt will have only one process that only one core ever deals with. So I guess it depends how FM works things out and how it does its processing?

Jonfun1980
So does Fm use all of the quads?
urbanjunkie
Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 Ghz (I can comfortably overclock to 3.42Ghz). XFX GeForce 8800GTX 768MB. Runs like a dream. 3D is fine fine fine.
Jonfun1980
Urban on FM 08 how many leagues did you run? how did it run? Urban on FM09 Demo, how long does it take you to load up the 3d match engine per game?
urbanjunkie
I ran all the major leagues and all the divisions in them (so thats England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland - and other leagues like Brazil, Argentina, MLS, Greece etc etc). Not all of them, simply out of choice. At no point did I really find myself staring at the screen and shaking my fist at it waiting for the processing to end. But then, I'm quite patient. On FM09, takes a few seconds, if that.
Jonfun1980
cheers urban, ordered a new PC today can't wait to play FM 09 on it.
urbanjunkie
For the record, also running AVG Pro and TVersity, and the game doesn't lag. Although I do try and keep my machine spiffy. I think having 4Gb of ram (only 3.25 recognised on XP) also helps a bunch.
