How to get rid of Asst Manager

Just started a new game as Burnley manager - the current Asst Manager is Russel Wilcox and I would like to get rid of him and hire someone better.

However, when I try to terminate him the board blocks it as they say it will cost too much money.

Can I get rid of him or am I stuck with him until his contract expires (2012)?

Surely at the start of the game you could offer a mutual termination of his contract, it usually isn't too expensive. If the board is blocking that though then I think you have to stick it out

You stuck with him until then unfortunately. The other thing you could try is offering him less years in contract but a bit more money so it works out cheaper. So offer him a 1 year deal with an extra £500 to start of with. If that doesnt work or you try it and after offering him maybe an extra £1500 more now and just a 1 year deal you may have to wait until the first season is over.

Have you tried mutual termination? Sometimes saves money and may save enough that the board don't block it. Otherwise, you could try offering him a shorter term contract and once he agrees, terminate it then.
