When the tie-breaker is 'results between teams' but there is more than two teams

Recommended Posts

I noticed at the end of my season that in Serie A, 3rd-5th had equal points and equal goal difference.

It wasn't sorted by goals scored.

I worked out a mini-league of the 3 teams and that wasn't right.

It wasn't even alphabetical.

So how is it/should it be worked out?...

Serie-A rules: When more that two teams are sharing the same number of points, the points accumulated in the matches between the teams are used to rank them, then goal difference if required. If this is not sufficient, goal difference over the entire season is used, and then goals scored. Further tie-breakers are seldom required beyond that.

What were the results between the three teams finishing 3rd-5th?

Maybe include overall pts/GD/GF/GA as well to save time.

Mini-league. Incredibly stupid way of doing things, mind, as if you have 4 or more teams (as what happened this year in La Liga), it's nearly impossible to work out quickly without a computer (in fact, I think even lfp.es had the table wrong once after matchday 37).
