Young Regens

Is it just just me or are the only decent young regens wingers and strikers?

I'm in my third season and I'm scouting for young players for the future because I've nailed down my first team squad and can't really see how to improve it immediately but the only players I'm getting decent star ratings for on potential are all attacking players. 

No before anyone asks I've not set the Scouting Assignment to find attacking players, I've not set any position just young players with high potential.

After seeing too many regens popping as striker, ive downloaded genie scout. Turns out that 80% of the top 100 regens were strikers. 

Another problem : the few wingers were only "winger-profile", the wingback were only defensive wingbacks profile.

Not a single inside forward, playmaker or offensive wingback profile after 7 years.

And very few CB and midfielders...

I think something is wrong with regen generation this year. Sad because this problem didn't exist in fm 18

perhaps it's a new problem but i think defenders always had lower pa. and i think it's accurate. also, i think, in real life inside forwards are often retrained forwards, and offensive wing-backs, retrained wingers. perhaps in-game some of those players will also learn different positions.

I do an Academy Challenge whereby I never get players from outside the club and depend 100% on my academy intake. I've had great kids in most positions so far including central defenders and midfielders; after 5 years I'm just lacking wingers and defensive midfielders.

 

So  I'd say there's no pattern such as you describe, but the positions may be influenced by your HoYD so take a look at his preferences - maybe he's biased towards attacking football.

Kids are only going to be natural in general positions; specialist ones like ramdeuters or inverted wingbacks will need to be trained.

Just kicked off a new long term save then, only decent youth prospects are 3 x AMC and 2 x Strikers. 

Unfortunately I don't play with a AMC. Will need a new HoYD with preference to 4-1-4-1DM. I always seem to get amazing AMC regens attribute wise.

Just for fun, I saved a game before regen day and checked to see what the youth intake would look like.  It was all over the map despite my save only being made a day before youth intake.  I usually only got about 2 players who clearly had 1st team potential each season.
