Any difference...

Do you mean for training purposes? I've found my young players being in the first team squad does help them improve faster. You'd like to think they use the same facilities and coaches as the first team squad do.

This is the way I manage my young players.

If I'm not using them on my first team (i.e. they are subs with less than 30 minutes) I left them in the reserves team and choose them as subs for the first team.

Only put them in my first team if:

- They are starters. Not available for reserves

- They are subs with a lot of playing time (I would say an average of 30+ minutes). Available for the reserves

- I don't have good coaches for the reserve squad. Available for the reserves

This works quite well for me.

.. between a youth prospect being in 1st team squad then "made available for reserves" or him just being left in the reserves squad all the time?

As long as they have a full time pro contract then I would say no difference.

There will be a difference between first team/made available for U18s compared to U18s.

When you look at training for the different squads on the left U21s/reserves mostly share the same coaches & U21/reserve staff are available for first team training.
