grindline
Apologies if there is a Mac thread with specifications and performance information already. I searched but couldn't find anything for FM14 that wasn't mainly PC performance discussed. Also the FAQ didn't go into specifics beyond the minimum spec. I would love it if people could post their system specifications and how many leagues they are running. That way I can tell if it is worth me buying now or potentially expanding the Ram first. Also this might help other Mac users by working as a benchmark. If people could post the following data it would be great. Model: CPU: Ram: Which Playable Leagues Loaded: Database Size: General Comments On Game Speed: ps. I know the merits of PC and Mac so let's all try to get along nicely. Tot
Model: Early 2013 Macbook Pro with Retina display CUP: 2.6Ghz Ram: 8GB Which Playable Leagues Loaded: England down to Skrill N/S Database Size: Large General comments on speed: Rapid, plays it like a dream. I know it's not the best evidence as such because i'm only running one league at the moment, but in settings if i choose 4 playable leagues all the way down to the lowest i still get 4-4/5 of out 5* for how well the game will run. DrizzitD
Model: Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" CPU: 2.6Ghz i5 Ram: 8GB Which Playable Leagues Loaded: australia, england, germany, france, spain, italy, russia, netherlands, belgium, russia, sweden, norway, poland, slovakia, brazil, argentina, mexico all leagues loaded down to lowest one. Roughly 115k players. Database Size: Large General comments on speed: slow but not unbearable slow at all. Shows as half a star so probably not playable to everyone but its working fine for me. I mix play with a much more powerful Pc using the mac when not at home using the cloudsave hence the huge database but for me its working great even though kinda slow obvoiusly. grindline
It seems like everyone has more ram than me with my 2Gb. I think I might have to add to it unless someone with experience of a similar amount can tell me otherwise.
DrizzitD
More ram is definetly a good idea. I would advice atleast 4gb but recomend 8gb if possible. Personally I think anything above 8gb is a waste of money Unless you do heavy photo editing Or have work related apps depending on alot of ram. This will probably change in the future but for now there is a really limited amount of apps that even can use that much ram and almost all of those are specialised apps that fall into the two categories above. However its important to notice that with FM being a 32bit app the game itself wont be able to use more then roughly 3.2gb of ram but 4Gb+ lets you doo ther things in the background without running out of memory. Like browsing the net or listen to itunes/spotify or similar.
grindline
I had no idea there was a fixed limit on the ram fm uses. In that case 4gb is definitely going to be an improvement over 2Gb. I currently have 500mb wired and around 300mb in use for the web browser. Therefore going up to 4gb should be sufficient for both of those uses plus fm 2014 and Steam. Kojak123
I'm not at home and don't know the precise specs but I run FM14 on a mid 2010 MacBookPro (High end at the time of purchase). I have something like 10 to 12 leagues running. It runs much better than FM13 did with the same leagues. The graphical settings are on low, though. From what I've read here and in other games retina is a huge challange for many games. So turning off retina for FM could/should already make a big difference. Yea 4Gb should be enough no problem. And about retina that only effect the match performance not the calculation speed. I run at max resolution but I lower the match graphics setting to medium and it runs great. The big thing for FM is the calculations inbetween your matches though and thats pretty much all CPU power your resolution wont effect this in any way. Also I have the graphics on the lowest setting when I played older versions. 10 to 12 leagues sounds a lot. How did you find the processing speed and what sort of database size did you have?
