  1. Only one person in the world thinks Neymar's theatrics at the World Cup weren't too much, and his name is Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior
  2. Some fair points - a corner leads to a goal about as often as a free kick. However, I don't agree that you have to make an equal fuss about all forms of cheating. Mulling it over, these are the reasons I think diving is generally worse than some other forms: It is accusing another player of wrongdoing. Claiming a throw/corner is not lying about another professional's conduct, so in that aspect it is not so bad. It works more often. Every time the ball goes out (unless 100% clear) you get both teams appealing for it. That appeal therefore shouldn't actually sway the referee either wa
  3. On a similar theme - anyone who walks away holding the ball when they have given away a free kick should be carded. It's another case where referees simply have no intention of applying the rules.
  4. Literally nobody is saying that. Diving is still the biggest problem in my opinion, because it is the one with the greatest "reward" for the offender. A good dive might, as a topical example, lead to your team scoring the first goal of a World Cup Final. Arguing about a throw in, or someone who feigns injury, very rarely have such an impact. If everyone stopped diving the game would improve, and more focus would be given to other offences.
  5. No, I'd also like it if players didn't start an argument and appeal for absolutely every little throw in decision etc. However, of the two offences, diving causes the bigger problems.
  6. Would have Pavard and Trippier in for Marcelo and Silva, plus Lukaku for Kane. Edit: And Hazard for Ronaldo.
  7. Absolutely they need a break - maybe extend half time by a couple of minutes? I think the principle of having the on-field referee make the decisions is important, unless it's a purely factual check like offside or the goal line.
  8. What would be your thoughts about handing out yellow cards for first half dives during half time? Not a complete solution, but to me that would at least go some way towards punishing players during the game, without disrupting the flow.
  9. I was at uni, and a friend of mine put money on England to win 4-1 at Wembley, Frank Lampard scoring first. He got Lampard right, but Rooney made it 5-1 late on and the rest of us have never celebrated a pointless goal so hard
  10. On the first point - they ought to use different words then if they don't like the words they've chosen. The law says "deliberate", so people are going to think it means "deliberate". On the second point - they're on the FA's website under the title "IFAB Laws of the Game 2018-19" so if anything they should be too new! http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct I realise after typing this it sounds a bit arsey. Can't be bothered to reword it, but I always appreciate your input on topics like this @Mr Wall
  11. Maybe he was 100%, but they told him there was another angle as he was walking off. He watches it, is still 100%, and gives it. I don't mind it on here or down the pub, but far too many pundits try to invent their own definite narrative around events like that, where in reality there could be any number of reasons why he looked again.
  12. Mainly, I just want to see someone throw a shinguard at the ball for some reason
  13. I'm happy enough with 3rd, always better at the tournament ones than PL. Won our work one too
  14. What makes you think he isn't trying to address it?
  15. Can we start the 2020 Coming Home thread yet?
  16. I've just checked - looks like the stat is wrong anyway. It should just be "shots", not "shots on target". Doesn't change my point though. Football's about scoring more goals than your opponent. If your strength is set pieces, score them from set pieces. It just seems weird to be banging on about as if they are somehow inferior. No major alarm bells for making it to the semis ffs. Yes, I wish we could have done as well as Poland, but we'll just have to put up with a semi final appearance instead of finishing bottom of our group, knocked out before the final group game.
  17. My list. Obviously some are a bit subjective. Best at club: Pickford at Everton? Vardy at Leicester? Kane at Harry Kane FC? Best in position at club: Keepers: Butland/Pickford/Pope (50:50 with England's 4th choice Heaton). Centre Backs: Maguire/Stones (50:50 with Otamendi or non-crocked Kompany)/Walker (but as a Full Back) Full Backs: Young/Trippier/Alexander-Arnold Midfield: Loftus-Cheek Forwards: Kane/Vardy/Sterling (admittedly one of a group at similar levels)
  18. It's a good job set pieces still count as "football" then isn't it. Don't remember this sort of fuss about Beckham scoring too many free kicks.
  19. In a post fall of bizarre statements, this one won it for me. In games with unevenly matched teams, one team usually beats the other in 90 minutes. Croatia played better, but there wasn't a huge gulf between them. On another day England go in at half time 2 or 3 up, then see out a comfortable victory. On another, Trippier hits the bar with his free kick and Croatia probably don't need extra time.
  20. Looks like you watched a different tournament to me! Firstly - "However will that get us anywhere?" - It got us the 2nd furthest we've ever got. Secondly - "The one time we needed to dig in and rally, we couldnt do it." - We needed to rally against Tunisia and Colombia, and did. Thirdly - "The one time we needed positive subs to make an impact and or change of approach... we couldnt do it." - The subs made a difference against Tunisia. Personally, I think Southgate did poorly last night. However, over the tournament as a whole, fantastically. It was a system designed
  21. Fair enough. Nothing personal meant by this, so please don't think it's meant as an insult, but that's such a different experience to my own that I find it very, very odd!
  22. Just curious - do you feel nerves watching a penalty shoot out?
  23. He's back before he's even hit it, so that's an odd thing to say, but agreed that this would be silly to continue
