  1. 19/20 Season Review

Wanted to see how Man Utd would fare playing the style of football I grew up with, and it did not disappoint. The League went down to the wire, with Liverpool being ahead on goal difference. Fortunately we did the job against Bournemouth and Liverpool choked away at Leicester, courtesy of a Jamie Vardy goal. In the Europa League and League Cup I opted to play the B-team, so was not to dissapointed to go out of either early, as the league was my main focus. On the plus side I enjoyed a run in the FA-Cup, but there Liverpool sadly got some revenge and beat me 2-1, deservedly I must say.

Main transfers in before the season were Kingsley Coman for 42 million over three years and Alex Telles for 34.5 million (half of it over three years). Sandro Tonali arrived in january for 28.5 million (didn't want Liverpool snapping him up). Only one first teamer was sold, and that was Nemanja Matic to Porto for 10 million in January (I had activated his clause in October, and after I was "forced" to buy Tonali, I didn't have any space for him). Luke Shaw spent the season on loan at West Ham and broke his foot again, Pereira went to Brazil for 6 months in January and scored 5 goals in 11 matches.

My main performers in terms of scoring was Rashford and Martial, who scored 19 and 27 goals in the Premier League, making the latter the Golden Boot winner (Notable mention to Greenwood, who got 10 in 17 starts). My main creators were Telles (12), Coman (11), Pogba (12) and Bruno (15), who between them notched up 50 assists!

    bilde.thumb.png.adf14d0be7b6cb353045ececac76b1ac.png

As for next season I will probably look to sell Shaw, Romero, Lingard, Mata, Sanchez, Fosu-Mensah, Andreas Pereira,  two of Bailly, Smalling or Jones, and Rojo in Januray. Grant will be released on a free. From the u23s, I am planning to promote Henderson, Garner, Chong and Gomes into the first team. I am not really looking to buy anyone, maybe an experienced striker to provide cover for Martial and Greenwood.

This was my main tactic that I used exclusively with few changes throughout the year. It focuses on attacking quickly with pace in classic United-style, trying to exploit the space left behind by the opposittion. It worked a treat and the football was exciting to watch, while being tight at the back.

The other think here is that you cannot decouple the defensive line from the mentality.

I think this is often overlooked and ignored by most users. I think that the preset-tactical styles really does not help as some of the more defensive ones always go with defensive mentality+ lower D-line and LoE. I also think formation and roles plays a part here as well. Some formation and roles are more suited to a low block approach.

  3. A.C. Milan 2024/2025: Start of the Season

After finally capturing the coveted Champions League-trophy, there were some big changes at Milan. Early in the summer, Man City came in for Sandro Tonali, who left for 98 million pounds, so I had to move swiftly to secure a big player to make up for this loss. Funnily enough his replacement could be found at the same club, as Phil Foden was available for 58 million. This saw a change in tactic, which meant that I also had to find a suitable back up for Bennacer, which came in the form of Matteo Guendouzi, who I had on loan in the 2021/2022-season. In other major moves, Esposito went to Tottenham for 51 million and Juventus aquired the services of Sergi Roberto for 38 million.

My inital plan was to deploy a 4-2-3-1DM-Wide, with Foden playing behind Cortez, but I did not like what I was seeing, so I changed to a 4-3-3 Tiki-Taka style. After several years playing high tempo football, I am curious to see how this patient style will work in the Serie-A. The start to the season has not been the best, but I hope to switch gears and change my fortunes quickly.

The closest I've ever come to winning the CL was when I took Milan to the final only to lose to Conte's Monaco. We lost because Bonucci made a horrendous error that gifted them a goal right at the end. I remember being especially angry because, as a Juventino, I hated Leo for betraying us in real life that year, then had to learn to love the virtual version of him in my save, only for him to let me down there as well  :(

That must have hurt! It is also probably why we keep coming back to this game, these different narratives based on our own individual experiences.

  5. I finally won the Champions League with the Rossoneri! Delighted after having my heart broken the previous year with a 120 minuter winner against me. It was a bit poetic that it was James Rodrigues who turnet it around for us with two goals at the death in what can best be described as daylight robbery, in what was his last match for the club. A fitting end for a player who has served me well and was my first signing for the club.

    bilde.thumb.png.0c463731987adc556e0ddae7bdf58651.png

As you can see I had a quite a tough road to the final, beating all of the north-English teams 2-1.

    bilde.thumb.png.ff0678551a6158810f55007f38528198.png

The league was won quite comfortably in the end with a surprisingly low points tally.

Unsure what to do know, was thinking of finishing it off, but lost in the cup-final to Juventus, so there is still some silverware missing. I would also like to compete in the Club World Cup (whenever that would be),

  6. What I love about managing in Italy, is that you face some absolute bonkers formations. Like this one:

    bilde.thumb.png.703e24467061f89c7fe13e68a7ea15c0.png

On the face of it we should be good by funneling the play through the wings, but they absolutely dominated the centre of the park, which is basically the premise of my strategy. Should have been more humble and adjusted to exploit, but thought we had the quality.

  7. @Matt_1979 Nice to see someone else playing as Milan. It is a decent challenge and fun team to play with. What is your long term aims for this save? Also, have you been able to make improvements to the facilities? I found it difficult dealing with the board, as they would not let me upgrade training and youth facilities, since it was not part of their vision.

Try him as Mezzala? In my first 2 seasons so far, I'm using B2B-Car combo and DLP-D in the DM position. The reason why I wanted Castrovilli is so I can move away from B2B and started to play with Mezzala. Whoever is in my B2B role (Kucka, Kurtic, Grassi) doesn't play particular well, tbh. I'm having more joy from my Carrilero, which surprised me, but it's working perfectly to make Kulusevski shine on his side of the pitch.

Interesting, he should suit that role perfectly (I think it also fits Calhanoglu quite well, who is my backup), and the shape is quite defensive, so it could work. I will try ut out and report back, thank you!

All hope gone of me getting him :(

    How much is Kr610m?

    How is Castrovilli for you?

Yeah, unless Man Utd ends up not playing him.

About a tenth of that (61m pounds)

Been really disappointing so far, sadly. His attributes are perfect for what I want him for, but he is not producing at all (I miss Kessie :( )

  10. Milan - Start of 2023/2024 Season

After last seasons agonizing loss in the Champions League-final against PSG in 120th minute, I decided there was time for a change. Having seen Aubameyang decline, I felt it was the right time for us to let him go and start young Brandon Cortés, and since the latter was much more adept at playing as a False-9 and I had range of technically skilled midfielders in the Barca-mould, I wanted to install a tiki-taka-style.

    New Tactic

    Transfers In & Out

In terms of transfers, I mainly brought in cover for my first eleven. I also sold Antony because of EU-registration rules, six months after my new board bought him for 120 million pounds. In notable world-transfers, Mbappe moved to Manchester City for a staggering 269 million pounds, while across town, Manchester United shelled out 123 million pounds for Dejan Kulusevski.

Hopefully, these changes will see us reclaim the Serie A-title and make another run for the coveted Champions League-trophy, but the tactic is very much a work in progress and sees us changing from a direct, counter-attacking approach, to a more measured possession style of football.

Started with 433 with wingers and had a success with it during first few years.

Really interesting to see. It seems like a lot of emphasis was put on wingplay, and a direct, aggressive style. I like that the base was kept and evolved throughout. How does it work with both strikers on the same role and duty? Do they work because most of the delivery comes from wide areas?

Is come deep to get the ball a good trait for a lone pressing forward? My coaches keep on recommending Inglese to learn this. Not sure if I want him to be far away from the penalty box, he's not scoring as much as I would like already. Though, it might open up some space for Kulusevski to attack in behind.

It depends what you want from the striker, he will still be in attacking positions, only later in the move. If you want the striker to be part of the buil-up and help create space for your wide forwards or attacking midfielders it could be a good idea. If you want him to push back the opposition defence and keep them oppucied so that your more creative players have room to play, or if you play quite direct and are looking to get in behind it would probably not work that well. So in summary, it really depends how you want your team to play, and where you see the goals coming from.

We have been playing my favoured formation, which is a deep 4-2-3-1, with 2 DM and 3 midfielders, but it's time to experiment a bit.  I'm going to change the two wide midfielders from Wide Playmakers to Inverted Wingers and change the Advanced Playmaker at MC to a Trequartista at AMC - which will hopefully get Falque more involved, as I think I can get more out of him.

What role are you playing Piamonte in? Does he drop deep or is he leading the line? I am thinking about adopting my system as well from 4-4-1-1 into a more realistisc 4-2-3-1 deep, because I want to play with a regista. Looking at your results so far, it seems like the tactics are working quite well based on the level of your team. Maybe if you have one wide playmaker and one inverted winger they play wil be more varied?

  14. Just finished the season, too many draws in the end, sadly.

Followed by heartbreak in the Champions League...

    bilde.thumb.png.bd609fdfc7e297066cb262860d61295e.png

My main goal with this save was not only to break Juventus league hegemony (which I did last year), but to bring back the Champions League to the Rossoneri, but alas, it must wait at least another season.

  15. So, it looks like there will be a title race this year as well...

    bilde.thumb.png.77c15f0e7157dace00e721a4b4cba093.png

Last year I won with 91 points, 2 points ahead of Lazio, who has fallen of a cliff this year (they just sacked Simone Inzaghi).
Edit: Just smashed Real Madrid 4-1 at home in the quarter final of the Champions League (6-4 aggregate score) and this guy scored a hattrick:

    bilde.thumb.png.d1a71ae42bd1839022f8616970cbfeca.png

He has slowly but steadily fought his way into the team as his attributes has risen and Auba's sadly has declined. The plan his for him to take over as my first choice striker after Aubameyang, has anyone had any experiences with him?

  16. Yeah, both of them completely overpriced, but luckily it did not come out of my balance. I think Zaniolo fits in nicely as an AM-S, as he also has some great traits. Antony, I don't know, may have to tweak my system slightly. I agree that it may be a bug, so will raise it later. On a side note, it was a consortium led by former Man Utd-flop Zoran Tosic who bought the club.

  17. I just got a board takeover with A.C. Milan (january 2022), they bought zaniolo and Antony for a combined fee of 270 million pounds 🤯 Do not really need any of them and the latter cannot play because of the foreign player registration rule. Never had this happen before (could not cancel any of the deals), but adds a challenge I guess. Starting to see an Italian spine form in the team. Dunnaruma, Romagnoli, Tonali, Zaniolo and Chiesa.
