Building around an enigmatic 10
josh.miller92 replied to ElJefe4's topic in Tactics, Training & Strategies Discussion
Agreed on the Treq positioning. I’ve had some success with a wide AP A on sit narrow in a 3-4-2-1 ( Alonso inspired). Feel like he attacks the half spaces a little better. I wonder how it would work with a 4312 diamond with the 10’ in the CM strata, again as an AP A? alternatively trying the Treq in the striker position ? -
Did you ever get anywhere with this? These days I’m constantly pondering ways to do anything that’s not a gengenpress. Catennacio is right at the top of the list but defensive positioning imo needs fixing first. The other alternative for me is a Jogo Bonito style of play with lots of expression and so working on this one with the new 07/08 database and would love to hear of any developments on this ?

No of course I agree I’m just messing. i suppose you could make an argument that for a few years now the most successful teams do play with this style. Even Atletico who have been famously anti-football have moved to a more progressive system. By definition getting a really pragmatic system to work well should be more difficult (Jose I open up this comment to you) and would require a lot more intervention on a game by game basis. i for one enjoy the challenge that pragmatic football isn’t as easy to plug in than gengen, the game might be a little more boring if it was.

How to Diagnose Defensive Problems
josh.miller92 replied to duff33's topic in Tactics, Training & Strategies Discussion
Assessing how goals are conceded vs the average is a good start. examples: If you’re conceding more goals from crosses then you might have an issue with CB heading ability (assuming these crosses are in the air). If it’s through balls then you might have a weakness in defensive midfield. If it’s balls hoofed over the top then your defenders might be too slow and/or defensive line too high These are just a couple of simple examples to get you started and of course there may be more drivers than what has been listed above for each type of goal. -

Tactics with unusual roles
josh.miller92 replied to josh.miller92's topic in Tactics, Training & Strategies Discussion
Yeah you’re right the HB didn’t really work in this system (but agree with above that the role works beautifully in general) but I think this was partly due to trying to play more direct. I tried an Anchor instead with more success. The system was a little leaky albeit I didn’t use it for too long before trying a 4231 with enganche, early signs are it’s a better tactic. -

I know it won’t work but I’m thinking of a 442 diamond: wb s 2 x CD wb s HB BBM Mezz enganche poacher TF s underlap left and right So we’ve got 4 players for the enganche to hit plus the target forward to knock down for poacher or enganche slightly more direct / standard tempo mid block but aggressive and counter -

Lovely stuff - what sort of league standard are you playing in / is it an underdog situation ? -

Let’s see ‘em I’m hopeful of getting some golden eggs: enganche wide target man WP WM Treq regista wide AP (ish) RPM (ish) Anchor (ish) I specifically would love to see some success with a number 10. The idea of a Treq/enganche dominating a game has always filled me with joy, watching the likes of Totti/Riquelme when I was younger. Replicating that (even slightly) in game has always proved too challenging for me. -
Post your current Formation/Tactic

Really enjoying this one! The aim was to get a low block / direct tactic working and I must say I'm very impressed. changed mid way through last season after failing at catennacio and managed to turn it around to win the league. Something I've picked up on is the power of slightly more direct and slightly lower tempo is counter attacking - in the ME it doesn't feel slow but the players are taking a second to pick the pass. which is resulting in more sustained attacks.
