It really pays off to play a traditional playmaker there.

    it does.

I have been watching some videos about the libero role, seeing others tactics using one, saw that one you were on about with SMS owning it. So I incorparated some of what I saw on theirs into this one. But they were using different formations, although I did find one on fmscout that is the same formation as the one you did just had a striker not an AMC

  2. So I have been tinkering around trying to get the libero role working and tried a few different players. Now just tried Bruno there and heres some interesting stats

    bruno-libero.jpg

He bossed it, putting in a MOM performance, getting up and having a few shots aswell, something to go on anyway

Not sure why the quality of that screenshot is so poor

  3. So I just played Pogba there and all that changed was he played more passes, he has the trait get into the opposition area and he still didn't advance much... plus I changed to cms instead of the APS... hmm I thought that trait might have changed something but no, only one game though so not much of a test lol

This is one of those things that you have to test out for yourself to see if it works. I just used a 5-2-1-2 WB formation with libero and saw him do very little. The game finished in a 2-2 draw, with my MEZ(s) and CWB(s) assisting on the goals (one was a corner). The passing breakdown was:

    • Two CD(d) players had 53 and 61 passes completed - 95% each
    • BBM(s) had 53 passes completed - 77%
    • MEZ(s) had 38 passes completed - 78%
    • AM(a) had 11 passes completed - 72%
    • Two strikers had 21 and 15 passes completed - 80%
    • Two wingbacks had 51 and 46 passes completed - 80%
    • GK(d) had 42 passes completed - 95%
    • L(a) had 27 passes completed - 85%

Positionally, he was in the right spots, but what was my libero doing all game? The central defenders alongside him were far more active on the ball. Even the goalkeeper had more passes.

Defensively, my two central defenders had 4 tackles each, while my libero had none. The libero did attempt two headers, though he lost one of them.

I'd love to see others show their success stories with a libero because I want it to work.

I'm back at my laptop soon, I'll see the stats on mine and post them up

For the Libero on attack, no its hardcoded in.

What about support to make him more attack minded? If not traits it is, but they will take time unless you find a good attack minded playmaking midfielder with the right traits.

I am considering playing pogba or Bruno there for a couple of games lol

Oh and one of the other tweaks I've done is attacking instead of positive, does make the libero go a bit more adventurous. Technically with a ss and CMS deep it might stop the libero advancing, just a thought

Yeah I meant cm(s) and bbm together.

Playmaker without the playmaker role :)

Jus played Leeds in the cup, so put the libero on attack, acts more like a HB really, sits infront of the other 2 cds, doesnt seem to surge forwards to much like I thought. May have to give it a few more games there.

I'm away from my laptop but could you add any pi's to make him go forwards? Didn't look at that before

Yup been using Gabriel there too, although Ferro is simply a beast right now, strong and creative.  My dream would probably be to use De Jong :p Ideal player for this role. So jealous of Barca although wouldn't really want to play as them. Too easy haha

Thanks for testing! I think it's pretty similar to your initial idea. I think we are both on to something. At least for those tough defenses. Have been rolling over the parked buses so far and I've been playing with mostly my young prospects at Benfica as got rid of a lot of older deadwood. Going for all homegrown challenge. It's a lot of fun.

So let us know how it works for you. I will do an official update in my Friday article.

That one you mentioned from Sociedad also came up on my search :D Yeah Barca would be too easy and De Jong would be a beast at it.

I love trying to recreate real life tactics and the AJax one is one I haven't managed to do yet so I am happy to join in the discussion, even if this one isn't exactly similar. One game aganist Everton I did struggle to break them down, well technically my players struggled to finish, they got in great positions but just had an off day as we drew 0-0, thankfully the defence were like a wall and Everton, iirc, only had 1 or 2 shots which were from range. That was a game where Tuanzebe just dominated as the Libero as a defensive machine

I have done some of those challenges, they are pretty fun.

I'll let you know what I come up with adding to yours. For a start I changed the mezzala to an AP, works better for me, probably just for me though lol

This is my recent set up in my test save with Benfica. The original faithful recreation of 3-4-3 with wingers, carrileros and three defenders was a disaster. I faced a ton of parked buses in the division and ended drawing most of the matches and got destroyed in Europe. I thought me a lesson. So I decided to go for more unusual recreation. Technically this is 3-4-3 and I see its starting to play some nice Total Football so I think I will stick with it. Also the results improved immensely.

I was excited to try to get a libero to work because I liked the idea of having a playmaking superhero operate from deep, but in this match engine, he just doesn't seem to get the ball. In stark contrast, when I use an RPM, he moves all over the place and is on the ball in the exact way I want a playmaking superhero to be. A DLP is fine, but not as dynamic and fun to watch as an RPM. HB is a pretty great role when using a back four with wingbacks, though the HB is going to be more of a possession recycler than a creative genius. I thought a libero would be very similar to an HB, but I'm not sure why it doesn't play out that way.

I thought I would give this a go as I have been trying to get a 343 working and gave up before but after reading what you said about your current one @crusadertsar it sparked my interest again.

So I have started off with yours as a base and added a couple of my own tweaks and I have to say, I see why you like it. It does provide some great moves/goals. Only played 3 games with it so far though, also only conceded about 6 shots in total so solid at the back.

I have played Tuanzebe, Garner and Mctominay as the Libero. SO far Tuanzebe has been great in the defensive side of it, literally everywhere stopping attacks. He does bring it out of defense but doesn't usually gives it to bruno or pogba. Garner and Mctominay do bring it out further but neither relly act as playmakers, leaving that to the 2 I mentioned earlier. Definitely can play a midfielder there. I was scouting to see if I can find a player who could fit and I found one at Benfica who is perfect for it, Gabriel.

I think with the right PIs and traits the libero can be a good playmaker though

I think you have definitely found a good base to work with.

Going to be a proper test of it soon as Maguire is injured so I might be having to play Fred in either the BPD or Libero role, probably the latter due to his height and , but again he has the stats to do it

  9. This is the setup I use at the moment

    setup.jpg

Only been using it for a couple of months but so far it's doing alright

    so-far.jpg

It's defensively solid, apart from the damn Bournemouth game where they destroyed me. Attacking wise it's not bad but could be better. Not sure what to change to make it more fluid attacking wise, having a total mind blank. ALthough I did only just notice, when I was cropping the screenshot on paint lol, that the team fluidity is only structured grr.

Yes I could put the SS back up top, but I like the work he's doing there way better than what a F9 or TQ does, plus he still gets in the box in time to finish moves off or set up others.

    Current PIs are:

FB - Cross from byline, dribble less, rwwb and stay wider
CWB - Cross more often, Cross from byline, shoot less often - mainly because williams loves to shoot
DLP - Pass it shorter and I am trialling mark the opp AMC
CM - Take more risks, Dribble less, roam, move into channels, cose down less
RPM - more direct passes, drbble less, move into channels
W - cross aim centre, shoot less often, roam
SS - Shoot less often, roam
IF - pass shorter, shoot less, stay wider

UPDATE:- I made some role changes to get the team fluidity up to fluid and won the next game 4-1 away lol. Bit annoying about the goal but it was a ME thing I think not to do with the changes. Was just a cross which 3 of my defenders got beaten to by the opposing attacker

    changes made were:-

    FB to support
CM to AP-S After this change Frenandes ran the show
IF to W-S, I actually did have set up like that at the start of the season but I changed it a few games ago.

Also during the game I noticed Greenwood in the SS role dropped back way to far, further than usual so I changed him to a DLF -A and he scored twice. I think I might make that tweak just for away games as I haven't noticed him dropping that far back at home.

Oh and dropped the passiing and tempo to slightly shorter, again this might just be for away games

I like the BPD and the Libero role to be honest, I had a 5-3-2 with a libero that worked fairly well, but not total football :)

In relation to F9/ Shadow Striker discussion, one of the reasons I'm trying to accommodate a Shadow Striker into my systems is I really like there movement and aggressiveness on the ball, plus they drop back and help alot more in the defensive side of the game. I found a F9 was a little bit of a passenger as in most of the play seemed to pass him by, which would be ok if he was creating space for others etc, but I didnt really see that either.

Edit: I've also noticed the 3-4-3 really struggles to break teams down that park the bus. I beat Liverpool 2-1 using it (not sure it was deserved but I'll take it) but up against Bournemouth who played a defensive 5-4-1(i think it was) with 2 dms I really struggled to a 1-0 at home.

I'm using a ss in my 433 instead of a striker and it's working great. I've seen him drop right into my half then next minute he's up the other end finishing a move he started back there 😊

Here's Chiesa on my Milan save, the two highlighted players are the two I've played most at right midfield with the winger role.  The youngster coming on for the last 30 mins most of the time so that'd have cut down Chiesa's time on the pitch.

    image.thumb.png.3af656cf7df1d7b5259451a488328bc4.png

My only frustration was him not scoring more of the chances he had.  I've been thinking of training him to be a right wingback in the Dani Alves mould...but as yet undecided.

Ok ok forget what I said about him haha

Have seen more than one person doing very well with Chiesa including Robbo on this sub-forum who had Chiesa as his player of the season whilst winning the league as Fiorentina with Chiesa playing in the MR slot of a 4-5-1.

    Fior.PNG

Fair enough 😜 just kept seeing people moaning about him and my personal experience with him where I sold him because he performed nowhere near as good as either Bellingham or Sancho or even dalot

    Sign both of them!

Retrain James to play on the left, rotate with Rashford(if you do play him there).

I had a hard time managing the right wing. James damaged his cruciate ligaments during an international friendly at November(out for the season).

Left with Sancho or Greenwood. Had to play Wan-Bissaka there at times too, interesting option though.

If you want a good young English RW get Bellingham. He is quality out there. In one of my united saves I had him, Sancho, James and dalot playing out there at times. Sancho and Bellingham were beasts out there though. Good thing is all of them are versatile and can play either side and in Bellingham's case, multiple positions including the centre

Playing greenwood anywhere other than up top is madness in my opinion as he's one of the best strikers on the game. Regularly scores 30+ for me.

And chiesa isn't great. Looks good attributes wise but never really seen anyone getting him performing great

I reckon I'll go first season with the Chief Scout and review it at the end of the season. I actually replaced the loan manager and technical director with better ones but now I think I may let both of them go lol, as usually I like bringing in my own staff and handle loans myself but I was just getting lazy so delegated those areas to them. With regards to the overload of scouts, do you release quite a few of them down to the amount recommended by the board? Not sure whether to let some go or not. There are loads of scouts at Utd at the start, not sure if they are all needed.

There's a few scouts at the start who are terrible. Look through them and you'll see. One has 13 for jpa and the jpp isn't much different

Won't this challenge be easier? The other one seemed way harder considering the squad you have built for this one.

I don't think so considering the debt and deletion of all the big sponsorship will be forced to sell off players plus I'm way over the financial fair play 😂 plus it's only 3 seasons. Plus this squad is still nothing compared to Liverpool and citys

  16. The Impossible Challenge Season 1

So the summer transfer window has just closed and below is the squad I have been able to put together. Sorry for the screenshots like these, my phone data won't let me access imgr.com.

I quite like what I have managed to put together, it took a lot of negotiating with clubs but I think we have a good shot of getting top 6 first seasno and maybe a cup. It's pretty poor at the back right now, but will be retraining some players for certain positions, the strike force isn't the best but can finish but damn that midfield is world class. Goint to be an interesting season

  17. Ladies and Gentleman, I am back with another challenge. Some of you who saw my previous challenge might have thought it was difficult, some of you tried it, some may have without telling anyone lol. But that challenge has nothing on this one. Let me introduce you to......

    The Impossible Challenge

You have 3 seasons to bring United back to the top of World football.

    Database changes made

    - Unlike the last challenge, you start in the Premier League, but you have a 25 point deduction
    - All players and staff have been removed from all levels of the club, but the owners and board are still there
    - Transfer budget is set at 200m
    - All sponsorships, except 1 one 100m kit deal, have been removed
    - Transfer Embargo shall start on February 2nd 2020 and end July 1st 2023

    The Rules

Basically, you start off with a bare club, only the board remians, no players no staff, no youngsters. You have 200m in the transfer budget and 2 transfer windows to build a squad capable of not only dealing with the points deduction, but also becoming the best club in the world in 3 seasons. You still have all the expectations of the board and the fans, the reputation is still there as well as the debts.

To complete this challenge, you must:-

    - Win the Premier League
    - Win the Champions League
    - Win the FA Cup
    - Win the Euro SUper Cup
    - Win the World Club Championship
    - Be ranked No1 in the World Rankings.

    - You are only allowed to load the English leagues, you may use a large database if you want
    - You must have "'Do no Add key staff"ticked, you may have attribute masking disabled, must not have anything ticked that adds players or staff
    - You can start at any time, but it's wise to have it start early pre season
    - You are not allowed to bring any players back that were in the original squad, so sorry no Greenwood haha (that ones a killer for me haha)
    - As usual, keep us updated on progress in here :)

Are you ready to take the challenge? Do you have the balls? :D

The editor data file is attached below.... good luck :)

Hmm not sure on that one then, I know on older versions it was a thing that if you went too long without getting a job it basically made it easier to get one by apparently changing reputation behind the scenes but not sure on newer games

Weird on older versions I holidayed for 3 years and it was difficult to get a job lol
