[[FM19] Manchester United]

So after losing my demo save, I have bought the game and started a new one. Just come up to the end of the 1st transfer window and I have done these transfer dealings:

Out:-

Lingard - Arsenal 46.5m
Smalling - Monaco 21.5m
Darmian - Sassulo 5.75m
Young - Newcastle 1.7m
I tried to get rid of Fellaini and Sanchez but no one wanted them annoyingly.

In:-

Antonio Marin - Dinamo 4.6m after clauses
Victor Nelsson - FC Nordsjelland 6.5m after clause  - A potentially good young CB
Tyler Adams - New York 6m after clauses - Nicky Butt signed both him and Nelsson.
Eden Hazard - 180m after clauses, ok so I don't need him and now I have far too many players up top, but I saw he rejected a new contract and just pounced without thinking bout it haha

I have also called up these players from the u23 and u19s:-

Ethan Laird
James Garner
Aliou Traore
Ethan Hamilton
Angel Gomes
Tahith Chong
Mason Greenwood.

The squad has a lot of depth and plenty of youngsters to start bedding in for the future. Now I have to work out a tactic  to make the most of this attacking squad. 

Hopefully I won't lose this save this time or this has been a lot of work and time for nothing. Anyone know what is the point of the cloud on FM as it seems to be pointless

Makes sense when Ajax wanted 75m for de ligt after my offer went up to 40 yet they accepted 29m from Chelsea... I see FM hasn't changed too much on the transfer side

It is pretty easy to implement Lukaku as a lone striker, just got to have the right set up behind him. I started with him up on his own and he was firing them in, only reason I changed formations was because I had too many attackers that I wanted to play so I set up kinda how United played in 08, Greenwood was my Ronaldo, Lukaku was Rooney and Martial was Tevez. Rashrof came in for either of them, as did Burkhart. I lost that save as the demo just disappeared from from my steam account as did all my tactics and saves for some reason. But I have the full game now so will probably start the save again

I am only on the demo, but I started Greenwood right from the start, scored on his debut and now building a nice partnership up top with Lukaku. So far he has started 8 and made 6 sub appearances, scored 5 and has 3 assists.

He is also United's and the Champions Leagues record youngest scorer

 

All I have done transfer wise is sell:

Darmian 14m Lyon
Lingaard 41m Arsenal
Sanchez 35m Chelsea

Jones is leaving in Jan if I carry the save on when I get the full game as transfer has been agreed for 17m I think

And bring in:

Tierney 13.25 rising to 25 in addons
Uduokhai (CB) from Wolfsburg 23.5m rising to 76... But the clauses are 34m after 50 league goals(lol) and 19m after 50 league games - I didn't think I was going to carry the save on haha.

Top after 11 games winning all of them, only lost 1 game so far against Real Madrid and drew against Galatasaray away as had so many injuries. Won everything else.

Traore
Gomes
Chong
Greendwood
Burkhart

All have played a few games and are doing well. The youth team has some talent, no need to buy a load of players

I would put the LB on attack duty, the left side needs some oomph or at least swap the CM and BWM around. Plus I would put the CF on ATT and swap the SS for either an AP or AM on support

I think it might be a coding issue tbh, I concede and win so many pens it's ridiculous. Like at least 1 pen every 3 games or so

Probably because people are so used to games like FIFA, PES, USM, Sensible Soccer(lol) etc where you don't have to think about things, you just play.

I love creating tactics, seeing what works and what doesn't. I always want to win, but I always want to win in a certain way, depending on who I start with. In my opinion, it's easy to set up a winning tactic, but to make a team play a certain way, it is more challenging and that is what I love about FM.

Yeah might try the am slot as could work but I don't want him to attract the ball so maybe just an am(s). I want to attack down the flanks when I get it so could work as long as I don't lose the defensive effort.

I haven't seen any loss on the defensive side. I'm only using AP because of the player, AM-S should do similiar

The full backs likely lose posession because you have the TI run at defence on. Personally I would switch that off and have work ball into box on.

I am using a similar set up and to counter the striker being isolated, if it looks like it is an actual problem in the build up to attacks, I move the CM up to the AM spot and have him as a AP(S). He still drops deep to the CM spot when defending but get's up to support the striker in attack. I tried the CM with get further forward PI, but that made no difference

[Longest ever Save Game?]

I don't tend to last long in a save anymore.... 10 or so seasons at most. I always end up getting bored of winning all the time, so I start a new save and ask people for ridiculous challenges, like win the world cup with San Marino without managing a club side to be able to train players up(which I managed to do 2 world cups in a row on FM 13 ). I love challenges, sometimes I do one season challenges like where I have to win as much as I can in the first season without buying anyone, which I did in a previous save on this version with Palace where I won the domestic treble

So yeah I don't often do long saves anymore

It's also interesting you put a non-striker as striker, I always thought that you'd lose performance sticking him out of position. I guess you have been training him to play up front?

I play my strikers out of position on the wings, the young ones anyway, having them cut in and they score a lot from out there. I find players with the right stats can play anywhere, not just their "trained" positions. It's how they are implemented into the side and how that side plays that matters most. I have also played a RB(Rafael) as a striker, due to injuries, and got him scoring a couple of hat tricks.

Thought it would be better to post them here gareth250480 as i see you are now testing pointons new ones so gives other people a chance, but thanks for the offer.

Also pointon, i'm having trouble downloading the patch as my internet keeps playing up so hopefully you or others can test them on the patch and let me know because they are working great for me on this patch so would be interesting to know if they will work when i finally get the patch. Also not everyone has the new patch so could help those people aswell

im downloading the new patch as i type so haven't had a chance to try on the new patch but i have done some tweaking over the last season to both tactics and my team have performed much better, the strikers have scored a lot more and my defence have improved.

I'm Wigan by the way. First season with tactics as they are finished 6th, well i used a few tactics including knaps and my own, aswell.

2nd season solely using these tactics as they are, finished 7th. Third season decided to tweak the tactics to see if i could better them and finished 3rd and also won the euro cup with the strikers scoring quite a lot more.

Would be happy to upload the tweaked tactics if pointon27 doesn't mind. I would just say what i tweaked but i can't remember now. Would be interesting to know how they work on the new patch
