Fundamental changes to the ME and AI do not require new saves. The point, and tbh I think you know that's the point I'm making, is that SI can and do make fundamental changes to the game without consulting users on every decision, and that's extremely normal among game devs, have done in the past, and will do in the future
Yeah, you're right in fairness, I did know the point you were making and was being pedantic to a point. What I said about competition changes is still true though.
I think this is quite a divisive issue, and I think part of that division comes from if it impacts the individuals' enjoyment. It does/will impact mine, so I know which side I am always going to fall on.
As I said, I've said my piece a couple of times and appreciate that some people agree and some people disagree with my point of view, so will leave it now.
If anyone comes across an editor file that puts things back to how they were, or time limits the ban, please let me know!

They literally do that every update. ME changes, AI changes, UI changes etc
They don't make changes to competitions that impact existing saves every update.
Every other competition change on every patch ever has required a new save.

Si make decisions changes to the game every addition, as the developer, they do get to decide what is and isn't in the game. Now people have every right to agree or disagree with their decision, but I think it's wrong to say its not up to SI, it most certainly is
So we are saying it is up to SI to fundamentally make changes to the product that people have purchased without consulting them, even applying that change to existing saves when people don't want it?
Not sure I'm ok with that, but happy to agree to disagree.

This is I think the biggest problem here. A change has been made by the developer to a product that people have paid for which fundamentally alters the product in a certain situation. Whilst for most this won't matter at all and they will notice few - if any - impacts of the change during the course of their saves. Indeed, if I played a long save and Russia or Belarus never qualified for an international tournament BEFORE this change, then I'm not sure I would even notice.
But then there are a small amount of us whose enjoyment will be impacted by this. I genuinely don't think I will buy FM23 if the ban is still indefinite on the game. This would be the first version since CM93 I haven't owned, save for one or two. This might seem terribly picky to some, but it's how it is.
And all of this is fine, because as you said, this is SI's product, it's up to them and it's ultimately up to me if I buy it.
HOWEVER, I have already bought FM22, and the game had been fundamentally changed by the developer. The option of continuing without the change has gone, and I am yet to find a work around to restore the game to the version I bought despite checking the editors forum and other well known FM sites most days for the last week. I have also spoken to a number of well known editors in the community and none have plans to try to change this back because of the difficulty in doing so.
So basically, having waited for the final update and certain editor files to start my game, I now probably won't.
I'm not one to demand compensation like people do over the littlest things, and that isn't what I'm doing here - I have almost certainly got my money's worth out of this version anyway. However, in my opinion, it shouldn't be up to SI to decide how I use the product I've paid for. And that includes people rightly pointing out that this will only impact a small number of users. In my opinion, the decision that has been made in making the ban last FOREVER on new saves, even if a database is selected representing the world as it was when the game was released, is really strange. More so, a change the the product that impacts people who have potentially put thousands of hours into a save that they have been playing since October is massively unfair.
And as you say, it is too late in the game cycle now for this to be changed. If peace is agreed next week, Russian clubs will likely be back in Europe by 23/24 at the absolute latest, however the game will remain unplayable for some of us for six months.
I'm not going to be posting about this again in here because I have already done so a couple of times, but needed to get this out having reflected.
Really disappointed in the overall decision from SI to make this almost impossible to get around by coding the changes as well as making them in the database. Feels like a dictation of how the game should be used and enjoyed, and don't think the user should be trawling the internet in the hope someone from within the community has worked out how to get around whatever change has been made to restore the product to the state it was in when people paid for it.

Do we think then that it is the European Competitions which will need to be rebuilt to allow Russia and Belarus back in rather than the nations themselves? Assume the nations would need rebuilding anyway for the world cup & euros?

I put my DoF in charge of transfers for realism purposes, and he sold all my goalkeepers
Well that's my theory shot then.... Unless your DOF has a preferred tactic which includes no keepers....

I know it isn't a simple thing but I do hope SI at some point will dive into making staff feedback useful as right now it is often bordering on the nonsensical.
For example in my latest staff meeting my DoF recommended both my first choice right and left winger be demoted from regular starter to fringe player 'to better reflect their ability in the squad and playing time.'
The only issue is the DoF rates both these players as being the best in my squad at their particular positions and both of these players have been regular starters in good form this season. I could understand if I really rated these players but the DoF doesn't, but his own report lists one of them as a 4 star and the other 3.5 star for their positions. Why, if he thinks they are both that good, would he recommend 'fringe player' is a better reflection of their ability with regards to our squad?
I know this is just something I can click past but I do wish for a day when staff feedback actually helped me make choice in the game, rather than being another thing to hastily click 'ignore' on.
Does his preferred formation include wingers?

Ridiculous comment. It's not like this is a forum about the war and people are moaning about FM, is it? It's an FM forum.
Your post implies that anyone who disagrees with their decision on Russia within the game is uncaring and has no empathy with the people of Ukraine. I (and others) have already felt the need to qualify our legitimate opinions with disclaimers because of views like this.
For avoidance of doubt;
1- I understand AND AGREE that Russian clubs should be banned from Europe and National Team from FIFA competitions within the game as this reflects reality.
2- The reality it reflects is a footballing one and I don't believe it has anything to do with politics. Even if it did, it's politics I agree with.
However....
3- I do NOT believe that a retrospective change within a database where all squads and competitions reflect the beginning of the season makes sense (IE 22.1)
4- I personally believe that implementing any kind of change in people's ongoing saves, be they in 2023 or 2123, isn't on.
5- Whilst I understand the bans by UEFA/FIFA in real life are "indefinite", we all know that in, say, 25 years, it is very probable that Russia will be able to participate in competitions as they have before. Therefore, whilst I DO understand why SI have made the in game bans indefinite, I personally believe that the decision is to the detriment of long term saves.
6- As someone whose final save in FM22 would have been with 100+ nations using fake players, I personally don't want this situation reflected in my save because it decreases my personal enjoyment and there is no way to avoid the awful realities of war which I find massively depressing and don't want to be reminded of when I'm doing something for enjoyment. Therefore, I would like the OPTION of turning it off in the editor, which I am led to believe isn't as easy as it should be.
Apologies for the long post and carrying this on, and I know that this subject has caused the mods extra work in this thread, but the above is all legitimate opinion and relates solely to FM, and discussion on this should not descend into implications that people who want to win the Champions League with CSKA Moscow on FM are ok with children being killed in Ukraine. The two are completely separate.

After a file which removes all restrictions added for Russia allowing the national team to qualify for future tournaments, and club teams allowed in European Competition. If they are suspended for a period of time then ok with that too, just want indefinite vans removing.
Competitions/European finals being able to be hosted in Russia again if possible would be great.

This is ridiculous and totally unrealistic.
Russian leagues, national teams and club teams should not be locked out of saves forever because of a conflict going on right now in real time.
Ban them for a year (FIFA and UEFA competitions) in game if you want to take a stance and then let them re enter but to exclude them from all of our entire saves? This is absurd, sorry. There is no excuse for this
It's not about taking a stance, it's about reflecting the current reality, which as far as Russia goes, is what has happened. I personally think it's right.
It's the time limit and difficulty getting around it that is my personal bug bear. I would be leaving the ban in place for the first season at least, but not until the end of time, obviously.

Don't want to carry anything on here about the whys and wherefores of the decision SI have made, but do we know if this can be reversed in the pre-game editor as mentioned here?

Just a general warning going forward, please don't discuss politics in this thread. We have an Off-topic forum where these things can be discussed, if you'd like.
Apologies, XaW - didn't mean to derail the thread.
Question still remains - is this change applicable regardless of which data is used, or is it only if the latest data is selected? I won't be able to test myself for a few days so would be grateful if someone could let me know?

I have no issue with why SI made the call, especially seeing how SI has worked with War Child for a long while, and have a pretty clear commitment to peace. No doubt some people will dislike this for a whole myriad of reasons, both things I'd consider fair, and other of a more political view. UEFA and FIFA have excluded Russian clubs and the national team indefinitely, so based on that I don't really think SI had any other realistic options.
I don't know if this affects earlier versions, but based Miles' blog it seems to have a small effect on earlier versions at least (with Russian clubs playing in neutral grounds), thought I haven't tested it so i can't say for sure.
Yeah, I get why they've done it, it's just disappointing from a "game" perspective. And I realise this is small potatoes compared to what people in Ukraine are going through.

Yes.
Whilst I get this decision and understand it, I am disappointed this is the way things have gone. SI made the right call (imo) to minimise covid and it's impacts within the game, and I am of course all for realism. I think the move is right, but the time period is a little bit silly. Miles is right in that there is no potential end date, but I think we can all agree that Russian clubs will be back in European competition in say, 50 years. I get that the discussion then becomes "when do you draw the line", but forever seems like overkill. If it were me, I would lift the ban after one season.
There is no potential end date, but at the same time, the ban is for this season.
Is this ban in place even if the 22.0 or 22.3 database is used?

Is it realistic? No.
But you do also have the option of placing job adverts and seeing who applies, so using it is entirely optional.
Issue with this is though that you cannot place an advert whilst you still have someone in the role you are advertising for. So there is no way to assess if you can improve certain areas such as assistant or hoyd without taking a chance and sacking someone unless you use staff search.
IMO the most realistic way is to remove staff attributes and base it on results in or advice (same for players but that is a different conversation);
ie.if your youth intake is generally good, does it matter what your HOYD attributes are, or the club doctor who at this point is just a name, in or sports scientists need to provide feedback like "we are getting lots of ankle injuries, the pitch needs relaying", or "it shouldn't be taking player X 8 weeks to recover from a twisted knee, imo. I would suggest that the course of physiotherapy the player is on isn't as effective as it could be" or "the reason player y is taking longer to recover than expected is that he is not behaving in line with the excellent advice of the physiotherapy team" or because "he has lower than average natural fitness".
Realise that this would be a step too far for many, but the issue with using a no attribute skin is that the discourse elsewhere in the game doesn't do enough to make up for it.

Do you think staff go about saying "I've got an attribute of 19 as a physio"?
Wild.
Application form;
"How would you rate yourself in the following areas out of 20?"
And
"Which of the following statements best describes your entire personality?
- Fairly sporting
- Balanced
- Mercanary
- Model Citizen"
And for those who turn up at interviews and are just a silhouette:
"Where were you born?"
"Unknown."

How do I find out why games in the Spanish fourth division keep getting called off? It's happened a few times, and then the re-arranged fixtures have been called off too. It's a little bit strange....

Reckon you might have the date wrong in the thread title, @XaW

Feel like I am at a bit of a crossroads with FM in general. I used to be annoyed if I had been off work for a week and hadn't got a save going due to my constant starting again, yet here I am at the end of a 4-5 month work break and I just have no desire to load up the game and carry on with my current save - and I'm only a few months in.
I did do an update thread where I considered it "now or never" to get into a save and achieve something, but it appears that "Never" is the way this is going.
We will see what happens, but I wonder if my FM time is up

Japanese league players aren't licensed in FM and as his full contract is with his parent club despite joining Celtic on loan, we're unable to include him at this time. It is something we're investigating with the aim of adding him in as soon as possible.
My hope is that this is a broader comment rather than just regarding this player. Fingers crossed that the recent changes to the Pro Evo (sorry - "eFootball" ) means that the Japanese League & players are within SI's reach once again.

Who are you playing as? Remember, star ratings are relative to your squad, so if you have a squad full of the best players in the world, exceptional youth will be incredibly rare.

How do I remove Chelsea Embargo in 22.4 Patch?
in Editors Hideaway
Posted
If you add an embargo that lasts 1 day, does it overwrite the other one?
Another thing that could be worth a go is removing Abramovic in the editor.
I've not actually been able to have a proper look since the update, but hopefully this might work?
