Will this work if the olympics have already started? Also were you managing a club because my friendlies seem to be clashing (even though I’ve left them to my assistant)

I was also managing a club yes- the game just ignores the clash and lets you manage both. And I think it will, yes. It seems like with the Staff Responsibility changes the option to manage the U23 games is broken, but if you just sack everyone else it defaults to you. Of course you can always just save in a new slot to give it a go quickly and reload if it doesn't work :)

I've only played as high as the Championship but if VAR in FM20 is anything like the god damn goal line technology replays in FM19 then I think I would probably throw my laptop out of the window...every single frigging time you know it hasn't crossed the line, and it becomes a race to how quickly you can hit the skip button :seagull:

That's pretty much it, but it takes much, much longer and there isn't a skip button. It's embarrassingly broken and really, if SI couldn't get it to work, should've been removed from the game entirely in one of the patches.

Just completed second very successful season with a team I set up from scratch in VNLS, and my right wing back has just accused me of breaking a promise to play him in his favourite position - right wing back. I am as pleased as punch with his performance over the two seasons and I would hate to lose him over a complete non-issue.

Is it possible that you promised to play him in the wing-back position, but actually played him in the fall-back position with the wing back role?

  4. I don't think there's any way of stopping this - it's ultimately the board's responsibility much as they might make other investments in the club (e.g. facilities) without you asking for them. Obviously leagues at that low a level aren't supported in the base game and it isn't coded or balanced around them, which is why they're making a decision which isn't very sensible.

I think the game could be more transparent with regards to negotiations on stadium rental. At the moment all you get is a message saying 'we're going to be playing here' with little reason as to why.

Plymouth may well be the most obvious place to share from Truro's pov but that doesn't mean that Plymouth want to share with Truro, hence why you've been sent further afield

If not Plymouth you've got Bristol City and Bournemouth about equidistant - the latter could certainly work as they are a Premier League ground anyway. Port Vale is just stupid, there's a very large number of stadiums closer than that.

Surely this cant be right. I have just been promoted to the premiership with Truro who are based in cornwall and as our stadium doesnt meet premier league requirements we are having to ground share at Port Vale, Stoke on trent. Its a 580 mile round trip for every one of our home games.

Yep - I'd post that in the bugs forum! By far the obvious choice would be Plymouth. But Stoke is just totally silly and I have absolutely no idea why the game's decided to do that.

Might be worthwhile to look at this thread too just in case. Or you might get stuck with 23 clubs in EFL1 forever like me .

That's weird - I've checked in the Editor and the mode is already showing Flexible Format Rules, but the game is indeed relegating 4 teams from it in the first season! I'll try changing it back and forth in case, but if not I'm not too bothered since I'm planning to manage in Scotland anyway :)

  8. Was wondering if there's a reliable way right now to guarentee a certain Brexit outcome, e.g. by saving and reloading? I want to do a Scottish save and make it harder to overcome the Old Firm by having one of the harder outcomes where players need to be paid £8k per week to get a work permit, but I'm not sure about the best method to set this up on the lastest version.

Apologies if this has been asked but I couldnt find an answer to it.

The Brexit thing in my current save does not allow me to sign players on free transfers...they just dont get a work permit. Lost out on 3 quality players now. All were international players from europe. One still wanted to sign...so I did, couldnt get work permit despite appeals etc, cashed in on him in the Jan so made £15m for 4 months ownership but would rather of had him.

Contract renewals are nervy aswell, had current players rejected WP on contract renewal but thankfully the better ones get them on appeal.

Has my save been loaded with the hardest brexit imaginable?? What are the differences?

You can check the rules on the league's rules page. It sounds like the players aren't playing enough international games for a good enough team to be eligible, and then don't get enough points from the transfer fee, wage, and playing in a top league to win an appeal.

  10. It isn't possible to go bankrupt in FM. The worst case scenarios involve being banned from Europe, receiving transfer embargos, and suffering points deductions - but these are all still pretty unlikely. If you stick to the budgets, you'll probably be fine.

Funnily enough I've noticed a glitch in my game with Exeter, in that in their first season they sack their manager and his replacement  (in two saves this has been Peter Taylor and Gary Megson) have been given a significantly low salary of 160 gbp per week.

Make me think something's set funny in their data which is causing this, potentially FFP related.

Hmm okay, sounds odd to me.. But thank you very much!

It's intended - since promotion is worth £170m+ anyway in guarenteed TV money and parachute payments, even if you lose every match 17-0 and don't sell any extra tickets or secure any increased sponsorships, the EFL prefer to distribute the money to the non-promoted clubs than give you a small prize payout on top of that.

We can’t afford to build a new one because of the money we’re losing just seems like the only way is to get to the premier league which is obviously really hard without the ability to bring quality players in

I'm afraid that's pretty much how it works in real life - you're not doing anything wrong, the system's just not designed to allow clubs like Hartlepool to easily succeed. The teams getting promoted not only have much more revenue than you - often due to parachute payments - but also get into huge debts spending well beyond their means to gamble on promotion. The good news is that it can be done, one example being Bournemouth, especially with the playoff system. And if you do pull it off, you'll have untold riches and a much better base to build from even if you did go back down.

  14. They've apparently become less common in real life, especially in English football. Clubs feel as though if they let players out for free, it often leads to them not being used much - the loaning team is just taking a random punt on them and if they aren't immediately good enough they can be ignored at no cost. This has been a particular problem since FIFA banned short-term loans, meaning the players couldn't even be recalled except during transfer windows. SI has adjusted for that, and now they're unusual except between affiliated clubs.
