So I implemented this system in a save I'm doing with Sheff Wed, because they start with 4-4-2 personnel for better or worse.

I've found it generates tons of possession but very few goals, while being very vulnerable to long balls over the top.

I'm wondering if its possible to succeed with this tactic offensively without a roster full of offensive stars like DiMaria, Tevez and Kane?

Do your players have the same attributes and player traits as Herne's setup? Wednesday have a relatively strong squad for the championship but your players need to fit 1) roles and duties by having the right attributes and 2) fit the system overall

  2. I guessed it was an AM-A or SS you were using for the Messi role in the other thread :brock:

Interesting stuff and I think that's most successful aggressive system I've seen which is no mean feat.

However the screenshot of the team playing out from the back further emphasises the need for greater tactical control in the game, the two central midfield players have almost the whole pitch to spread out create better passing angles yet they're cramped together whilst the DCs and WBs are miles away. A set piece creator like instruction would be useful for goalkicks. Additionally having more control over player positioning is needed in general but I appreciate that's difficult to implement.

If I choose Control Mentality and with TI Close Down Sometimes, I can set my defensive line to be higher. But if a Increase Close Down one notch (More) my defensive line automaticaly changes to Slighty Higher. I'm sure there is some logic here that I'm missing. The curious thing is that this only happens with Control Mentality.

    Probably just an interface bug

How to exploit space in a counter-attacking system? I mean, in a certain area of the pitch, if there's space spotted.

If they're playing a high line then an attack duty striker will be more likely to run in behind. If there's space behind fullbacks you could use clear ball to the flanks or instruct a striker to move into the channels. There's no cut and dry answer but generally you want (a) player/s positioned in that space or making runs into the vacated area.

If I told you that, I would have to kill you. Haha, no. Sadly it's more of a personal decision to travel a lot so I end up picking up different types of work depending on what's available wherever I am, sometimes it can be quite random. This is why sometimes, I have more spare time and others, almost none.

Not in espionage but traveling a lot is still enviable :brock:

I'm having a bit of a problem with my team at the moment. I'm finding that I am bossing games in all the stats but am coming away with poor final results. A typical game will have +60% possession with maybe 15-20 shots (3-5 CCC) and another 15-20 corners (of which I have a conversion rate of about 1%). I will be outplaying the opposition and coming close to scoring, only to concede to a free kick or some other ****** goal. This causes me to play from behind a lot and it's very frustrating. Even the games I win are by narrow margins. I've tried changing formations and PIs but it seems like every game goes the same way. I'm playing as Roma so it's not like I am a mid table team, but when I'm barely hanging on 1-0 at home to Palermo I know that something is not right.

Post you r full detailed tactical set up. At surface level it seems that you're perhaps too aggressive and over committing

I finally gave up Sunderland, the morale was down because Yaya Toure wanted to play more, half of the team thought I was right to tell him I can't do anything for him, the other half was his opinion. Finally Swansea gave me a chance to better my image.

They want me to play a passing style so this approach fits perfectly. But the thing is they have one Winger that is good, but like 4 strikers on first team level. I set up a 4-1-3-2 but I'm not sure if this really works. Our first game was a 2-1 win against WBA but the winner game in minute 92 so nothing I'm too happy with.

That's my system. I'm not sure how the midfield 3 work together if they are too narrow to play a good possession style. Also I worry about the Full Backs. I feel that you get killed by crosses into the back of the Centre Backs when the Wings are too open. It would be nice if someone could work out some things I can change to make the tactic better.

How many games have you played?

What issues are you having specifically?

I've noticed something in FM17 that I can't quite figure out. Across several different teams now when I play Control or Attacking with Fluid shape and "slightly wider" (usually a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with DM) I struggle with possession. I also have high or normal tempo with short or mixed passing. However, if I set my defensive line to slightly deeper (one level below normal) I suddenly get much more possession and play much better football.

I've been reading Cleon's "how to" guides and I wonder if I've "accidentally" created counter-attacking tactics? :D  Traditionally speaking on attacking setups aren't you supposed to push your backline up and not down?

I guess my real question is, why does it work to have a lower defensive line on an attacking formation/tactics? It seems illogical to me but I suspect it works as a counter-attacking setup? I've been watching my games and my teams do very often break forward with pace, especially by utilizing the wings

Here's a recent example of one of my tactics:

    icfVxYn.jpg

(It says mentality attacking in the screenshot but I usually vary between that and control depending on who I play. If I play very good teams I pull the AMC down to DM.)

With a high tempo in an already high mentality you don't have too many options because you're pushed up high with little space, so having a deeper line creates more depth and more space to play in

Can potentially see that there are not many options going forward, I currently have Full backs in support, will it make the difference if I change these to wingbacks? That way I've more options out wide (assuming wingbacks get further forward), reluctant to put them on attacking

We need to see your whole set up, looking at some roles in isolation isn't very useful

I am playing a 4-2-3-1 on defensive mentality and structured shape. I use retain possession to prevent wasteful passes and I am also using higher tempo to prevent dwelling on the ball too much. My front four are: CFa, Ws, AMs, IFs. What I have noticed is that we get a lot of shots blocked, sometimes as high as 70% of my shots fired in a match are blocked. We create a fair amount of chances, but it is hard to score if the ball never reaches the net. I am suspecting it has to do with my instructions, but as I am happy with our play overall I would like to avoid changing too much. Is there a way of having less shots blocked or is it one of those trade off situations where you cant have it all?

Post your entire set up, so your tactic, team instructions, shape etc

But from what you've put there I'd say start watching "full game" highlights made and watch out for things like your team being too narrow, too slow or too forceful in possession, lack of movement and a lack of options. It sounds a lot but when you look at exactly why the shots are being blocked (rewind the play a few times) and you'll soon be able to spot that for instance a player was being heavily closed down and he didn't have enough space.
