Pougatch clearly knows **** all about football
this is why I find him just *so* irritating. He has no real expertise but insists on talking as if he does, and talks with the ex-pros as if he's "one of the lads" with them. Really grates on me.

Or literally any British PM or opposition leader this century, to be fair.
I'd say Theresa May or Duncan Smith would be a tough call

That was brilliant covering from Walker

The English anthem isn't really something you can sing passionately anyway, just dreary dirge
11 minutes ago, CFuller said:Pougatch has been presenting ITV football since 2015. SIX YEARS. I'm not sure Des Lynam lasted that long at ITV.
But as bad as Pougatch is now, Chiles was wayyyyyy worse.
No argument Chiles was bad but Pougatch is by far the most annoying sports anchor of all time for me.
Edit: oops messed up my quoting there

Not sure when Sweet Caroline became an "England anthem", ITV.
Ought to be playing World in Motion.
they sang it at Wembley on a loop for about 10 minutes after the Germany game. Now seems to have been adopted, five live interviewed the guy who did the wembley PA on why he chose it and how it had become such an anthem etc.

Only half an hour build up on the BBC for a semi final makes me sad
Of which how much will be about England/tomorrow's match? 20 mins? Well be lucky to get 15 mins specific build up to tonight's game I expect 😕

We took Joe Cole and Nicky Butt to Euro 2004 and neither played a single minute. Stuck Scholes out on the left wing instead with Gerrard and Lampard falling over each other in the middle and neither of them sitting back. Well actually both of them sitting back against Portugal as it turned out.
We had squad depth, we just had a cretin in charge.
I'm not having Sven described as a cretin without any argument I mean I totally agree with the criticism of him for not playing a balanced team, I also think he stuck with big name players that weren't fully fit too much as well, but labelling him a cretin is a step too far for someone that delivered the 5-1 win away to Germany.

How many headers did we score last night? It felt like loads. You can tell it’s a big part of Southgate’s plan.
pretty sure one of the commentators/pundits mentioned it was the first time in Euro finals history that a team had scored 3 headers in a match, which is surprising

I'm not sure what the point is there. The Premier League has already said its donating 2,000 defibrillators to grass roots football.
yep, and in any case there *were* some defibrillator money raising campaigns following the Eriksen incident. Seems a total straw man

No his strong arm was his first part of the defending, then for no reason in the box he decided to give him a shove at the end
I agree. In fairness the more I see it the more I think a pen is justified, even though I'm usually all for it being a contact sport and allowing a little bit of manhandling.

Personally I'd like to see us pick whatever Gareth things is the strongest team for Saturday, which may involve changes anyway. This may be contentious but I think the fact we'll be travelling for the first time and won't have the support in the stadium that we've had so far, makes this a slightly tougher game for me than for either possible semi at Wembley, even though I agree Denmark have looked far better than Ukraine so far. However I totally get the arguments for rotating defensive players on yellow, giving people more minutes, bringing Mount back in etc, and here's the key thing - I trust that whatever Southgate chooses to do, will turn out to be right. And it feels good being able to say that about our manager

At first glance I read the one from Jaaack and the text one from Stuart, as being sarcastic and saying it wasn't a great thing to be laughing at a crying kid. Funny how you can read things differently.
The one calling her the s word is particularly troubling (along with the one from Stuart if meant at face value)

That's a truly incredible stat, but I think it's actually nine whole managers
Big Sam - lol
Hodgson - Euro 2016 - 0, WC 2014 - 0, Euro 2012 - 0
Capello - WC 2010 - 0
McClaren - lol
Sven, Sven, Sven - WC 2006 - 1, Euro 2004 - 0, WC 2002 - 1
Keegan - Euro 2000 - 0
Hoddle - WC 1998 - 0
Venables - Euro 1996 - 1
Taylor - Euro 1992 - 0Sir Gareth - WC 2018 - 2, Euro 2020 - 1
I honestly hadn't realised we'd not won a knockout match since 2006! There's a whole young generation of fans that had never seen us win one until today. Does put things in perspective (speaking as an old timer that can remember Mexico 86)
edit: think todays events must have affected me more than I thought, completely forgot WC18 when I wrote that, despite it being in the post I was replying to

Lovely Sweet Caroline singalong there. Really reminds me of Euro 96 as that's when I got into Neil Diamond. Nobody was singing Sweet Caroline back then.

Walker taking two or three touches there instead of whipping the cross in first time, just perfectly encapsulates what's frustrating about our play

That's not even a foul IMO. Goretzka deliberately puts his right leg further out, into the path of Rice who literally can't avoid running into it. They are given as fouls 9 times out of 10 but to me they are almost more a foul the other way around.

The ITV commentary team gushing over how Croatia have done so well for such a small country. Almost as if they should be "happy to be here".
Funny that they didn't mention anything about Mamic or corruption.
Pougatch post match patronising too. "Croatia did well didn't they, they contributed something" wtf?! They're World Cup finalists not some tiny footballing nation out of their depth ffs

Wales terrible, Denmark really good.
Just now, StevehFC said:Can see Denmark in the semi final.
literally was just about to say the same. I know Wales and Russia have been terrible but Denmark have been brilliant in both and were pretty good against Belgium too.

Any England Germany game is going to be elevated from an England POV. I still had fond memories of beating them in Berlin in a friendly few years back. One where were were 2-0 down.
yeah I remember that, Eric Dier header to win it in injury time. It was in the spring ahead of the Euros 2016 and I was so positive afterwards about that tournament ....

Graham Potter would be my choice because of the way he sets his teams up. If Brighton could finish...
I wouldn't mind Potter. I think Eddie Howe would be brilliant though (all moot of course given Southgates going nowhere for the moment)

Yeah I feel really sorry for Chilwell, finished the season strongly, played exceptionally well in the CL final, and will probably not start a game and may even get zero minutes
