  1. I will buy it, but not in a hurry this year for the first time ever.

Will see how it turns out on the new XBOX, see if it comes to stadia, my laptop is showing its age, realised gaming laptops are atrocious and wont be buying another, looking for a better solution.

The Series S looks great value, but I believe FM will be a variant of the Touch Version on this, mixed feelings on this, cant believe it would have the leagues/nations restrictions with a CPU that powerful, it could end up being the best version of the game, fully featured but without press conferences and some of the fluff that gets old quickly.

Will wait for the reviews to come in.

  2. I'm actually hoping for less realism this year, I don't want to be reminded of Covid doing the thing I do to escape from the realilty of Covid. (amended budgets are fine)

The current handball interpretation has stopped me watching live football, if its implemented into FM like that it will stop me playing FM as well.

I appreciate they are somewhat duty bound to follow reality, as a compromise I could stomach 1 season of both, after which Si can create there own happy future where both have disappeared.

  3. Whilst i'm broadly satisfied with this version of the game, i do find it odd that set pieces could not be slightly toned down with this compensated for with a slightly better conversion rate of chances from open play.

I appreciate even this seemingly straight forward change is difficult to implement with possible knock on effects. Had this been achieved i think we'd be in a pretty good place.

    Fingers crossed for FM21.

Do you know if Get Stuck In is favourable over Stay on Feet?
I used Get Stuck In twice now and got direct red cards in both games, although it may be leading to more chances and breaks.
I dont know if those too games were anomalies or not.

I've tried both. The tactic is definitely better with get stuck in on.

The press is a bit pointless if you're standing off. You see much more turnovers in dangerous positions with get stuck in on.

A bit risky but worth it. Any player on a Yellow with a rating of 6.4 or lower substitute them in the 2nd half.

  5. Quick update.

1st season in League 1, made play offs but lost out. 2nd season in League grabbed 2nd spot and automatic promotion.

Wright Phillips was my top man,17 goals & 17 assists, pretty 1 dimensional but a good runner/dribbler and crosser.

Looking forward to consolidating in the Championship for a season or 2 before taking on the big boys in the Prem.

    But that's 3 promotions in 4 seasons.

how it is going on skybet league one? :)

Im doing a similar save with boston . started on VNL North! :)

1st season in league 1, going well. Suspect automatic promotion will be just out of reach. even though we have a couple of games in hand.

Bit of reputation lag after rapid promotions, struggling to sign league 1 players, central midfied is very weak. But just dumped premier league Norwich out of the FA Cup.

I wonder about this too due to not having 2 well-rounded midfielders and it seems difficult to fit a magician into this tactic.

With no defensive midfielder we're a bit restricted in what we can do with the central midfield roles. Mezzala's will just vacate the central area and leave us exposed, as will box to box midfielders to some extent.

Perhaps a DLP/s & Box to Box might be a good combo for top teams if you feel you have to change it.

I tend to use 'magicians' in the wingers positions.

    What about individual position training?

Normally i'd just train to the role, i.e. Strikers train as Pressing Forward attack.

The exception for this are, for example, if i have a young midfielder with strong Defensive qualities already, i might train him as Advanced Playmaker/Attack to bring on his attacking attributes and round him out as a player.

  9.

    TRAINING

    This year I am employing the same tried and trusted training schedules from last year namely;

    PRE-SEASON

    MATCH WEEK

    DEVELOPMENT WEEK

PRE-SEASON should be employed immediately upon the players return for a new season until the week before your first competitive match. It is designed to recover physical attributes lost during the off season, build team morale, and improving conditioning and injury resistance for the main season.

MATCH WEEK should be employed in any week where you have 2 OR MORE games. Pursuing player attribute development is pointless during these weeks, instead its all about recovery, conditioning and arriving on Match days in the best physical and mental shape possible.

DEVELOPMENT WEEK can be employed if you only have 1 match this week leaving a run of training days to work on coaching and improving players whilst still gearing up for match day.

Hi i wondered if you have tried using an advanced playmaker on support instead of the enganche, all the players I've used as enganche seem to perform badly and when I use them as AP(S) they seem to perform a bit better.
I don't know though if this will effect the overall performance positively or not.

    Thanks

Not tried this on the new ME, but using the AP(s) resulted in more goals scored, but more conceded. Over the points tally was better with the Enganche.

Are you still using the tactic you posted in the tactics forum? I'm on my 5th or 6th year with Everton with that tactic - just very minor tweaks - and it's still doing very well.

    Sorry for hi-jack.

Was using the Enganche one until yesterday, working on a 442 now trying to push for Champions League. Looking very high scoring at the moment...... at both ends

  12. Its not always about tactics.

Need to be incrementally improving your squad, player quality wins out in the end.

That should be straight forward enough until you get to the Premier League, got my Stockport team there easily enough, but can't break into the top 4.

The top teams are full of elite players, elite players won't join Stockport until we win something, its hard to win something when you don't have elite players etc. Lost 2 finals last year, League Cup and Europa League, so getting close.

Just picked up my 1st Elite Midfielder, an English re-gen who'd ended up in Italy, brought him home and he's been immense. Hopefully a watershed moment,

In your first tactic you provided the main attributes for each position. Would you like to inform this one too?

    Hi,

Most should be fairly obvious; Wingbacks Stamina, Crossing, Passing, Work Rate. Centre Backs Tackling, Jumping Reach, Acceleration, Marking Mezzala Off the Ball, Passing, Vision, Technique. Pressing Forwards Off the ball, Finishing, Technique, Composure.

Couple of key roles to be aware of.

Half Back - Although he doesn't have playmaker status he will be on the ball more than any other player. So think of him as Deep Lying Playmaker. Passing, Vision, Positioning, Tackling

Enganche -  They operate much more defensively than you would imagine. They break up play a lot, often in their own half before passing forward to the Strikers or Wingbacks. I made the mistake of playing 'little wizards' here, the small, agile link player wondering why they were not as influential as i thought they should be. Better to think of them as disrupters. Tackle - Pass - Run - Support. I'm favouring a more physical type > Tackling, Work Rate, Passing, Vision

  14. Ok,

    Been playing around with 20.2.4.

Bit tricky in the sense that a tactic that works with 1 team, doesn’t translate well to another?

Weaker teams seem better suited to attacking mentality and stronger teams to positive.

When using Leicester as a testing team I regularly had a 25 point variance from season to season when testing exactly the same tactic. This is using holiday mode. Makes working out when you actually have a good tactic tricky.

Perhaps testing in holiday mode is not effective any more or there are so many factors outside of tactics affecting performance now (morale, form, luck etc) its clouding results.

This is mitigated somewhat by using a top team but you’re still looking at 15 point variance using a top team.

    REPUTATION IS KING

Its much easier to play as a team with a low reputation as teams are far more open, reputation adjusts mid-season which is why many people report a drop off in performance in the 2nd part of the season when their previously effective tactic stops working now opposing teams are set up more defensively.

My approach is to create a tactic, first and foremost, which can deal with defensive opponents but is versatile enough to also be effective against teams that do come out and play.

So in terms of producing a tactic which can be used by a variety of teams at different levels, I’ve concentrated on getting something that works consistently well with a top team, shows promise with a weaker team on the basis that those players using weaker teams will improve them via recruitment and be rewarded with a tactic that responds well to an increase in player quality and also becomes more suitable as your reputation increases and teams operate more defensively against you. So a tactic that is future proof if you like.

    Real world example.

    English-Premier-Division-Stages.pnghow much professors make

My Stockport team were predicted 13th, most teams in the 1st half of the season played open against us, we picked up enough points to see a reputation re-adjustment and teams become more defensive in the 2nd half of the season, this suited our tactic even more and pushed on into Europe.

Next season will see a reputation increase again, teams playing more defensively, suiting the tactic yet further supplemented by me being able to sign some better players. And onwards & upwards.

    Testing results.

    English-Premier-Division-Stages-2.png

Solid return with City and strong goal difference.

    English-Premier-Division-Stages-3.png

Slightly flattering Leicester result, whilst we finished 4th, the points return was decent but not great. However, Vardy got 40 goals, sign a better 2nd Striker for next season and combined with the reputation increase seeing teams being more defensive, suiting the tactic further, should see the required progress being made. So a tactic that is sufficient becoming more and more suitable for your team.

Anyway, enough waffle, here is the tactic.

    Leicester-City-Overview.png

    No OI’s

Left Wingbacks to take right corners.

Right Wingbacks to take left corners.

Left Wingbacks to take left throw ins.

Right Wingbacks to take right throw ins.

No set piece exploits, if anyone knows any, please let me know!

Good results, is that with the original or 4 at the back with IF tactic?

A tweaked version of the original.

I ran it with Man City expecting excellent results but only managed 89 points and barely won the league, not good enough really.

Its obviously a reputation thing with teams sitting in against City, a noticeable drop off in performance in the 2nd half of the season when reputations are re-assessed and teams become EVEN MORE DEFENSIVE!

Got some ideas on this, still tweaking, hoping to get something that's good for both mid-table and also elite teams.
