We slip in Gelsenkirchen due to me resting our entire team because we were favourites (not to self: don't do that anymore in away games), but we absolutely obliterate Anderlecht to all but confirm our place in the next stage of the Champions League.

Great read, is there any reason behind the rise of Mainz? Love seeing the AI put together a team thats unfancied.

Thanks! Not that I can see, there's no tycoon or anything. They did hire Edin Terzic of Dortmund fame, and the positive trajectory of the club correlates with that hiring. Also looks like they have a strong junior setup which can't hurt either.

We got FM'd twice in the Champions League, as we dominated both games even though we played the backups each time. But we've somehow found ourselves top of the league despite losing to Leipzig (again) and drawing Dortmund at home. But Bayern are coming.

At least there will be at least one German team in the round of 16, but I like my chances against a team we've beaten before in Chelsea.

Bundled out of the Champions League, but it's almost a blessing in disguise as we now only have the league to focus on. Unfortunately, so do Mainz, who are eager to win 2 Bundesligas in a row and edged closer to us after a 2-0 win over us. But, somehow, we are still top at this stage, but we just need to maintain the same form in the league otherwise we can wave goodbye to yet another golden opportunity to win the league.

We got an excellent result against Bayern, and if we win our game in hand we'll have a 4 point buffer. Not relaxing by any means, but there's at least a margin for error.

We are doing everything we can to bottle the Bundesliga again, but everyone else doesn't seem to want to win either. Out final games are at home against already relegated Schalke and away to an in form Koln. It's a extremely nailbitng finish, and one that Bayern won't be a part of!

So close now! Fingers crossed for the last two games as it's been quite the effort to get Union to this stage! It's a more enjoyable read I think when success isn't instant though!

A very large number of outgoings this window, although most are just out on loan. A few big sales though. We sell our youngster backup LB Kevin Langer to Feyenoord, possibly a bit prematurely but oh well. Also leaving, and our biggest loss this season is Dauble, who heads to United for a nice 50M+ profit. I really believe they've overpaid for him, he's an excellent pressing forward but isn't rated elsewhere. We also move on Kevin Dolan for a loss of about 15M, he never really lived up to his potential unfortunately. We also lose backup LW Helmut Hercher for a nice profit of 5M, and we absolutely fleece Roma for Job van Erp, a player we brought in as a backup, was quickly usurped by others, and then we loaned him out to Espanyol last season. We make nearly 18M from that sale

750b38e2f0319181b847cef13b01fc29.png

The top two players become starters at CB and DM respectively, and we sign 3 German players to bolster our backups. Diarrassouba replaces Langer, Ozlu replaces Morrone after he steps into Dauble's role and Us replaces Hercher. They're all downgrades unfortunately, but here's hoping they can play well anyway.

Your crossed fingers worked :D Yeah I'm enjoying using scouting to build the squad, even though I can't figure out how it all works properly yet

We lose to Dortmund which is becoming an unwelcome trend. We haven't beaten them since 2030 and have only won 4 of our 21 meetings, losing 15 of them. Apart from that, everything looks good. We get off to an excellent start in the Champions League, but we also did last season and it didn't turn out well. Next month is tough though, as we have RB Leipzig, Bayern and Dortmund (again, but in the Champions League this time) as our first three games. I think that'll be a good gut check for how the season will go.

Flawless in Germany, and we end the year top of the league. Bit annoyed we blew a 2-1 lead against PSG, but with Lille and Zagreb left I think we can stay in the top 8.

Transfers (Out)

I had to capitalise on Malheiro and Sylla letting their contracts run out this season, but it's still sad to see them go. Malheiro was the first player I signed in this save, and he made 259 appearances for us over those 10 seasons. Sylla was also a veteran for us, making 184 appearances over his 8 seasons. I was unable to find anyone to replace them either, which means I need to rethink the scouting I think. Looks like there's a lot of complaints about the way scouting is being handled this edition too.

A couple of tough losses gives Mainz the advantage, but we scraped into 8th in the Champions League to earn ourselves a bye to the last 16.

Another really tough month, playing 3rd, 4th and 6th, but we win them all, take advantage of Mainz slipping up (they won 1/4 this month) and go back to the top, 3 points clear.

6da6fb915d98dd7d260fc173fc35f12d.png

We get a very tough draw against Man City, a team we drew 0-0 with  in Berlin 6 years ago. Are we better than we were in 2027? Yes, but Man City are most likely as well.

I sacrificed our Bundesliga chances in the hope of getting something out of the Champions League, but City were too good so everything has backfired massively. Some changes are required I think. Might need to flesh out the squad some more. We definitely have the capacity for it.

I went way too overboard with transfers, as I overestimated the number of German players I needed for the Champions League. Not many of these players are actually going to be used unfortunately, so I'll just show the ones that will. The formation and tactics have changed too, in accordance with my AMs wishes. We are now playing a Vertical Tiki-Taka using a 4-4-2 Diamond. Will it work? Who knows.

We get arguably the toughest fixture we could, against a Milan team that beat us 4-1 2 seasons ago. I don't have high hopes.

We're back to our winning ways in the league, but we're still in 5th. But the big news is in the Champions League, where we got revenge on Milan and head to Paris with a really slim advantage over PSG.

That loss to Hoffenheim probably ended our chances of a league title, as we would've been 1 point off top. But the big news is in the Champions League, where we are almost through to the Final provided we don't bottle it in England. Even if we make it to the final and win, this part of the challenge isn't necessarily over. We need to be the most reputable club in Germany before we can leave having hit all of the other targets.

We couldn't get it done in the Bundesliga, but after an absolute belter of a Champions League final, we came out on top after a 120th minute header from our superstar Belgian winger. Union Berlin, champions of Europe :D

But was it enough to complete the German leg of the challenge?

Where Next?

To decide where to go next, let's take a look at how capital clubs have fared over the last 11 seasons:

b1c66bf1a6acc644bbbbdb329cc20f4b.png

Our lone Bundesliga with Union has pushed Germany down to 4th, but the biggest movers in a positive direction were France, Netherlands, Spain and Finland, thanks to PSG, Ajax, Real Madrid and HJK Helsinki. Meanwhile, Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland and Sweden edge closer to being managed by me.

But there are still 3 countries who haven't had their capital win a domestic top division.

Scotland is still dominated by the Old Firm, and I don't feel like interrupting them just yet.

Turkey has seen a bit of a drop in dominance from the Istanbul big 3, as they've only won once in the last 4 seasons.

Wales is still dominated by The New Saints, a club that isn't even technically Welsh.

I think I've made my decision.

It's been a while since I've managed a semipro club, and even longer since I had to use transfers with one. I discovered the trial farm a bit too late, but we were able to sign a player to boost the first team. We can't stop everyone else leaving though, that's 2 starters that we lost in Jones and Dede.

I completely glossed over the fact that we're the League Cup final, where we play The New Saints in what should be the first of many clashes during my time here. We're also out of the remaining cups, but went undefeated in the league, rising to 2nd where the gap to Barry isn't changing. We've secured 4 new additions for the January transfer window, with the potential for more. We'll see how things go.
