Nations League draw

Table.PNG.a1e08e52dea28872cefa8b1a8e2599ca.PNG

Thats not too bad, just glad we didn't get England again :D Win our home games and we've a great chance of getting promoted. But not getting relegated has to be the aim.

Iran friendly up first in our Euros prep.

Match.thumb.PNG.302dd16bcf5fb3a7126116a3721ce4fa.PNG

Played the strongest team, with a few that needed some fitness. Disappointed to concede 2 but very happy to be scoring goals. Hopefully can continue into the tournament.

Qatar are our final warm up game. Another big win is expected and was delivered. Although the almost perfect preparations have taken a massive blow.

Our best player and star striker Griffiths got injured during the match. Might miss the whole tournament :(

England are the first opponents in the group stage. A draw would be a great result. But it wasn't to be. Taking an early lead wasn't enough.

Lots of yellow cards in a tasty encounter

Switzerland up next. The odds tell me we're the underdogs, and we can't afford another defeat so I decide to keep it tight.

Match.thumb.PNG.bf1b953a548ed1caf43abbd68fe0b03a.PNG

We absolutely battered them, but as in other games against better teams we just couldn't finish. Not having a decent striker wasn't helping either. Switzerland deserved nothing out of the game, but get a point anyway.

Final match against Iceland. We needed a win and for England to beat Switzerland for us to have any chance of going through to the next round. Unfortunately neither of those things happened.

Match.thumb.PNG.0bb25fb155213b1f09d94de7d090a922.PNG

58 shots in the 3 games and only 3 goals really was our downfall :( Here's what the final table looked liked

We want to put the disaster of the Euros behind us, and move onto the Nations League B campaign. Serbia away is the first game.

 Match.thumb.PNG.beb639b275d4851911835b858512a364.PNG

Its was like a totally different team. If we had our finishing boots on like this at the Euros we would have won the whole thing! :D

Great start, Poland at home up next in a few days, a win here and promotion is firmly a possibility.

I mean, seriously!

Match.thumb.PNG.705546b490f300da34be35efb4b1e18e.PNG

Really frustrating that we didn't scoring so freely in the summer. We had played just as well. and It's pretty much the same squad.

But never mind, its good to be getting really good results against better oppo.

Avoid defeat in the reverse fixtures and it's league A here we come!!

Friendly match against Slovenia before our next NL match.

 Match.thumb.PNG.ea231ffa40b8554aaa9bacf6bcfb609d.PNG

Made wholesale changes to give fringe squad players a chance at some minutes. We played well but back to the lack of cutting edge. Hopefully it returns for our next match. But it's only a friendly.

This international malarkey is easy...

Match.thumb.PNG.45befd2930992a4eb525e9c807a23c5b.PNG

Not a convincing scoreline, but is sure was a convincing performance. We didn't give Serbia a sniff.

I did however almost make a massive mistake that could've cost us the game. I had forgotten that 3 players would be suspended for this match after getting 2 yellows in the first 2 games, but I still picked them for the squad. A notification would've been nice.

But it didn't matter in the end. As we've been  promoted to League A!

Before our next NL games against Poland we have a friendly against 11 in the world Denmark. I called up a few fringe players for the friendly and played a full rotated side from my main 11. Excepted a close match and thought a draw would be a good result.

The back up boys done fantastic. Hopefully that helps to improve our own WR.

And we finish our League B campaign with a perfect 100% record. Don't think anyone expected that! Hopefully this means we will have a higher seeding for the WC qualifiers coming up and we can look forward to who we might get in League A. Hopefully not England :D

 Match.thumb.PNG.10d1b231278d6f6a9c56ca5f83582d99.PNG

We had to come from behind and we weren't very good in the first half but we picked up in the second and went more attacking.

Table.PNG.c1b8cb17deb4e8251fdf09629cf459a4.PNG

Just look at that. It's lovely!

And the 2020 season comes to an end. What a year its been. Our first tournament in a long time, albeit a poor showing, but nice to be there. And then a NL campaign that no one could have predicted. Underdogs from the start and absolutely hammered Serbia and Poland.

As mentioned before the U21s are doing fantastic  as well. Here is their recent qualifying table. Just like the Senior squad, a 100% record!

 Table.thumb.PNG.30f3ebdba3452e5527e88a3b4627c04f.PNG

Here are the some players who will be looking at getting into the main squad in the near future.

Enjoyed reading through this thread! Good luck for the future

By the way, in my current save with Pompey, I have Jason Cummings who finished top scorer in the Championship and then Premiership in consecutive seasons. He has been on fire.

Also now in the year 2021, Lewis Morgan has developed really well at Celtic. They are rejecting offers of 20 million.

Thanks.

Cummings is my back up striker to Griffiths. Scored a couple so far. Got my eye on Morgan as well.

World Cup 2022 Qualifying draw, and as hoped we are 2nd seeds.

News.thumb.PNG.8d3d66a8e8c62d47466cf37da89d85a8.PNG

Got to be happy with that group. Having already dispatched of Serbia in the NL we should really be looking at the Portugal games that will determine whether we qualify or not.

Germany asked for a friendly before our WC quals start. A nice test for us before the competitive games start

Match.thumb.PNG.6c21726579c1dbff119bb268602dda92.PNG

A good result. Loads of players had club instructions of 45 minutes only so couldn't play the team I wanted.

Did give a debut to a promising young GK. Something we've needed since I took over.

Hearts Broken :( Portugal score with the very last kick of the game to snatch a draw.

Match.thumb.PNG.59a327d31090a568a1371c711e605ec8.PNG

A draw was a fair result over the full game, we might have even built on our lead if we had kept 11 men on the pitch. And a draw in our hardest game is a great start.

As mentioned before, we have Serbia away in our very next match.

Match.thumb.PNG.a5a3b791c47af01185859585ec268b98.PNG

Looks like we were saving our goals in the home match for this. Fantastic performance and result.

Table.PNG.a91eca6ca28c2652e0630133bfd6c338.PNG

Would be good if Serbia could take some points off Portugal. to have 7 points after playing 3 of our 4 hardest matches is pretty good.

A friendly to finish off the summer against USA. Was allowed to name a new squad , so gave a rest to many of the regulars and tried some new faces out.

Match.thumb.PNG.9f71996e4fa92b09969974ac26fb1ed4.PNG

Wasn't the best game ever, but the run continues. The group are full of confidence right now and we feel we can give anyone a game.

Georgia were our next opponents, and a game we really should be winning comfortably. And it was. we had 34 shots on goal, 11 were on target. so lots of goals right? RIGHT!?

Match.thumb.PNG.773177a5ae2aa8b37e1b33c25d483451.PNG

Just the 2 unfortunately, it really should have been more. But 3 points in our quest for qualification.

Table.PNG.55a70e9aafc31c401bdb4117af308563.PNG

Top of the league by 3 points but Portugal have a game in hand. Hopefully they drop some pints before we meet them again.

The group whipping boys were up next. Anything but a win here would be embarrassing. Luckily we hammered them, with a pleasing debut as well.

Match.thumb.PNG.3133bbbe4ca3ddb806ea20e747ee02a3.PNG

Lots of shots again, but this time we put some away. A hattrick for McDonald on his debut.

Portugal are making no mistakes, winning 4-1 away to Serbia. Looks like the group will come down to our home game against them.

1271021503_WorldRankings.PNG.09cbdaf3bfc504ed244919b78c676c1d.PNG

Second highest home nation behind England. Maybe one day we will be the best ranked.

The most important match of the group is Portugal at home. The difference between winning the group or going into the playoff.

Match.thumb.PNG.d981b3bfc91be9e7399fd5ab5c8d48fa.PNG

We came flying out the blocks. 2 early gols before Portugal hit back. I thought the some back was on and they would batter us. But no, we held out with the 1 goal lead until half time and then hot two more early in the second half.

Table.PNG.f5af45ed6b46f96ce26e241ef0d1bccf.PNG

Need 4 points from games against Georgia and Luxembourg to win the group.

Our penultimate group game was Georgia away.

Match.thumb.PNG.c777cfe8b7ca67c4cb9c7730a3f6da71.PNG

Absolutely raging! to get this far and then not kill it off when we are so close to qualifying. Luckily a win at home in our next match see us top the group

Luxembourg were our last match. Fully confident the lads could pull off the win needed to top the group.

Match.thumb.PNG.8ff959c57fe126a3b53604eaf9e3fd27.PNG

Never in doubt. No shots fro them as we dominated totally.

News.thumb.PNG.b310d41b083323aa090b4ccb12247d71.PNG

And we done it. We're going to the 2022 World Cup!

Another debut for a youngster in these matches and he also managed to get on the score sheet .
