Setup: Portuguese (2b and up), English (Conf N&S and up) and Sweden (First and up) on a Large Database with all Icelandic players.

Start date is July in England.

Introdution

After finishing my career as a football player, at the age of 35, I decided to go on into the Football Management one. With a fresh coach diploma in my hands, here I go offer my skills to any bidder. It’s my first job so i will not be picky.

InGame Story

July 5, 2004 - Carshalton, Sutton

Billy Smith, Carshalton Manager, just resign his contract to go manage some other team, so I took this opportunity to send in my info and hope for a contract…. Crossing my fingers!

July 11, 2004 - Carshalton, Sutton

I’ve got it by phone this morning – I can say now that I am the new Carshalton Athletic Football Club Manager. Glory, glory, I got my first contract.

That is the good news. The bad news comes in as a personal note from Steve Friend (Carshalton Chairman). Besides the expectation of getting a mid-table classification at the end of the season, the sad news is that I got no transfer funds, because the club is in serious finance troubles. Oh well! Its time to look at the squad and try to sort it out.

Between the main team, reserves and u-18 I got 25 players, 5 of them already listed for transfer. On the finance front I am 56£ below budget. I can get another 235£ if I get rid of the listed players asap.

The Team

Goalkeepers:

Not much to say here, one clear selectable keeper, and 2 weak ones.

Ricky Bell, age 21 – Already transfer listed, probably with good reason. His stats are pure rubbish

Paul Borg, age 27 – Not much better then Ricky. Handling 7 is not a good thing

Stuart Searle, age 25 – This will be my main keeper, whithout a doubt. Miles away from the other 2, but a very weak keeper.

Defenders:

We are in need of 2 central defenders with the utmost urgency.

Colin Hartburn, age 19 (DR) – Nice youngster that probably will be a good backup for John Hamsher.

Aaron Cole-Bolt, age 19 (DL) – Another nice youngster to play as backup of Peter Wood

Ellis Hooper, age 17 (DL) – Not bad, not good, lets see what comes out of this youngster

Mark Costello, age 32 (DC) – Veteran with poor stats, very aggressive, but since I have no one else to play, he will pair with Gary Elliott.

Gary Elliott, age 30 (DC) – A little better then Mark but also very weak all over!

Peter Wood, age 30 (D/DM L) – This guy will run the left side of my defense.

John Hamsher, age 26 (D/DM R) – Looks like a very nice player with 20 on penalty shooting, 19 in Composure and Natural Fitness and 18 in Determination. The only problem is the 8 in tackling and 6 in marking. Sounds more like a winger then a defender.

Midfield:

I’ve got a nice array of players in midfield. Looks likely to be my teams stronger point.

Tim Murdoch, age 19 (DMC) – I consider him a great Hot Prospect. good passing and Tackling, great Determination and above average Long Shoots.

Des Boateng, age 24 (MR) – Already transfer listed when I arrived, and I fully endorse the guy that did it!

Matt York, age 25 (MR) – Another one already transfer listed that leaves no doubts in my mind… he is gone!

Tutu Henriques, age 22 (MR) – Fair player, young, maybe he can develop into something.

Danny Carrol, age 28 (MRC) – This guy’s stats point him to be a great Team asset (20/19 Teamwork/Workrate). He has the stats to become the driving force in my team. Lets hope.

Neil Le Bihan, age 28 (MLC) – Nice player but lazy.

Dale Marvell, age 18 (MC) – Young but no “marvellâ€. Poor stats.

Mark Hawthorne, age 30 (MC) – Already transfer listed before I got the job, that will stay that way… probably will save some money by letting him go for free.

Sam Saunders, age 20 (AMR) – Not much to tell about him. Probably will be transfer listed because his stats are very poor.

Marlon Patterson, age 21 (AML) – Same thing as Sauders.

Attack:

Five players available here, all of them Strikers. I doubt I have a good striker among this bunch.

Kevin Cooper, age 29 (SC) – Getting old, but still a above average finishing.

Nic McDonnell, age 23 (SC) – Great finishing (16) and Decisions (18) but the rest is pure rubbish

Kevin Lock, age 22 (SC) – Low stats, maybe he can develop

Adrian Stone, age 24 (SC) – Good jumping and nothing else

Conrad Kane, age 40 (SC) – Dead meat.

After analising this setup, I got my tasks split 3 ways:

1 – Bring in fresh U-18 meat to make a competitive team ASAP

2 – Search for 2 DC’s, 1 ML and 1 SC ASAP

3 – Search for potential good players for the 05/06 season so I can dream with promotion – Long term plan!

STAFF:

One Assistant Manager, one physio and one scout. All of them with very poor stats.

InGame

More bad news in the fixtures panel. With most players unfit, I got a friendly today (11 July). There are 5 more friendly games on the 14, 18, 23, 28 and 1 of August. Season games start on the 14 August. Cancelled the friendly games at the 14, 18 and 23 so I can recuperate my players fitness.

My first friendly opponent is Woking. Then I will play Leyton and Barry. All fixtures are at home, so maybe some cash gets in.

First day task is to dive into the market in search for new players… free! No time for scouting, so I will follow my guts in this and try to grab as much as possible, even exceeding my wage budget. Also need to find half a dozen coachs, one good physio, and one or two scouts.

Targets:

Good free signings out of my budget like Frank de Boer, Witschege, Mostovoi, Mutiu, Tsiartas, Marquinhos and others.

Offered contracts to John Burwood, 19 (DC), Jermaine Brown, 21 (AM/F RC), Chris Batt, 23 (AMLC), Gavin Skelton, 24 (MRLC), Lewis Tozer, 19 (DC), Callum Flanagan, 18 (SC), Matty Warner, 18 (AML), Daniel Perry, 19 (DR), Phillip Gilder, 16 (AMRL), Nick Robinson, 20 (MRC). Also trying to contract some outfield coaches, goalkeeper coach, physio and a good scout so I can discover some hot prospects in Iceland!!

That’s all for now. I will be back with a resume of my first week.

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, CarShalton Manager!

FIRST WEEKS WITH CARSHALTON

11 July 2004

Surprise, surprise.. First frendly and first victory. Maybe i was unfair to my players in my first evaluation.

Nothing was ready at the War Memorial Sports Ground in Carshalton. I had just arrived, and had to make a team to play a frendly game with Wokin (Conference National). The fans started to arrive, and i was still undecided to what my first eleven would be. Looking at the stands i counted around 70 fans ready to watch the game. And the game started with a great goal for... CarShalton!!! 2" in the game and Kevin Lock scores after a free kick pass from Costello. Couldn't have wished for a better start. Game was one sided in first half as we dominated scoring twice more by Ellis Hooper and Neil Le Bihan. After some subs the second half got away with one more goal from Sam Sauders. Game ended 4-2 to us! What a great start!

Match Stats

Carshalton 4 - 2 Woking

Kevin Lock (2)

Ellis Hooper (19)

Neil Le Bihan (36)

Sam Sauders (88)

Adrian Stone injured 2 weeks.

12 July 2004

Having put all my players on Pre-Season trainning, i had to come up with a trainning for my keepers and for my outfield players. Meanwhile there are a couple of new signings at Carshalton:

Ray Clemence - Keepers Coach

David Jarret - Scout

Paul Balsom - Physio

Stefan Stefansson - Physio

Atli E valdsson - Outfield Coach

Kevin Moore - Outfield coach

Gavin Skelton - 24 years MRC

Clive Saunders - Keepers Coach

Matty Warner - 19 years AML

Phillip Gilder - 16 years AMRL

Callum Flanagan - 18 years SC

Jermaine Brown - 21 years AM/F RC

Chris Batt - 23 years AMLC

Elliott Ward - 19 years West Ham DC on loan

Franklin Simek - 19 years Arsenal DC on loan

17 July 2004

Things are starting to look better around here. Players are trainning hard to get back to full fitness. On the bright side, John Burwood (19 years DC) just accepted Carshalton contract offer. This guy boasts 19 heading and 16 jumping with 12 Marking. Good prospect. Meanwhile had to refuse 3 offers for Chris Batt (just arrived some days ago).. Is this a prelude for a good player? another DC just signed with us - Lewis Tozer, 19 years old.

21 July 2004

Just a quick note to report a strange thing. Burwood, Batt, Flanagan, Tozer and Brown, all new players at Carshalton, are targets for other teams. We have received alot of proposals for them. Very strange and a good sign in my opinion.

28 July 2004

Now we are ready to face another frendly, this time against Leyton Orient from Division 2. I built a 4-5-1 defensive tactic that i think i will use during the season. My team is weak, and staying in the midle of the table is my main objective.

Meanwhile my finances are going down the drain. We are already 56k in debt, and the wage budget is about double what is allocated by the board. Next target is to get some funds in by selling players.

Match Stats

Carshalton 3 - 3 Leyton Orient

Kevin Cooper (26)

Jermaine Brown (36)

Kevin Lock (64)

Leyton scored at 33, 62 and 65 minutes. Very disputed game with the score advantage going up and down. We were very close to win this game with a very solid performance. Theyr keeper got 8 and MOM. Tutu got a 5 days injury setback.

All in all, i am seeing my players put up some consistent performances, but this is only the second game of the season, and a frendly one.

1 August 2004

Another frendly game coming in, this time home against Barry Town a wales team. The game started with us on the losing side with a early Barry goal due to a dubious penalty at 10". But we answered very fast and got the equaliser at 12". Then at 36" Matty Warner put us 2-1. But the best was reserved to last with a long range screamer by Kevin Lock at 72". Another solid performance with the MOM on our keeper Stuart Searle.

Match Stats

Carshalton 3 - 1 Barry Town

Callum Flanagan (12)

Matty Warner (36)

Kevin Lock (72)

Next game is for serious!! Resuming our frendly campaign, in 3 games we got 2 wins and 1 draw, 10 goals for and 6 against. If we can keep this kind of scoring and manage to close better the ways to our net, i think we can seriously dream with a confortable mid table position.

Next update will be about my debut in the conference, by the time of our first game!

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

14 August 2004

This is the D Day. We are going to debut in the Conference South against Hornchurch away. Meanwhile, Man. United trashed Arsenal 5 - 2 in the English Community Shield game with Nistelroy scoring 4 goals!!

Bad luck stroke at us as John Hamsher (D/DM R) our main DR player suffered a injury. I draft the following players for the first eleven:

GK - Searle

DR - Skelton

DL - Wood

DC - Simek

DC - Burwood

DMC - Murdoch

MR - Carroll

ML Warner

AMC - Brown

AMC - Batt

FC - Cooper

Hornchurch has been given 5-4 odds to take the match, we are stuck with 7-4. They are the favorites.

22" - Mustafa centers on the left, Elam shoots, Keeper saves but Schofield takes the rebound and scores for HornChurch! bah

74" - Gilder with a long ball, Cooper beats the offside, runs alone on the keeper but shoots against him. Corner.

78" - Hornchurch switches to a 2-5-3 very attacking formation looking for the equalizer.

86" - Hornchurch counter with 5 men against 3, great shot on target and great save by Searle. Corner.

91" - Hornchurch gets caught with only 2 defenders against 5 of my players. Warner goes on the left side till the finish line and centers to Batt, Batt nods the ball to Cooper taking the keeper out of the way, and Cooper is left with a very simple finish! GOAL! GOAL!!! Cooper second of the game!

1 - 3

94" - Game Over! We started with the right foot and away from home. Chris Batt got the MOM and a rating of 8. Strange thing is that he ended up with condition at 72%, when at half time he had 70%. Go figure that! Maybe its the coffee we make our players drink :-)

Match Stats

Hornchurch 1 - 3 Carlshalton

Chris Batt (37)

Kevin Cooper (70, 90)

Great game. Our lads were fantastic. The new guys did very well. Day off for everyone! Celebrating time.

Will be back with next games soon...

17 August 2004

Game 2 Home - (13-8) Carshalton vs Grays (6-4 Fav)

The doors are open as we prepare the reception to Grays Athletic. I am going to make some changes on the team. Hartburn (DR) comes in to replace Skelton (MRLC). Skelton will play as DMC replacing Murdoch (Tired 82%). Also Flanagan (SC) will replace Cooper (SC). Simek (DC) is also out in an international game, and has to be replaced by Tozer (DC). Only 3 days rest is tought on my team. The day is dry and sunny, and about 350 fans come to see our team play. That got us about 1k in gate receipts. To low to counter the huge wage bill i have.

First Eleven:

GK - Searle

DR - Hartburn

DL - Wood

DC - Tozer

DC - Burwood

DMC - Skelton

MR - Carroll

ML - Warner

AMC - Brown

AMC - Batt

FC - Flanagan

Game Report

2" - Brown alone hits the keeper

4" - Flanagan unmarked hits rugby bar..

10" - My keeper Searle hits a long range, ball goes up, up, hits the ground, goes up, hits the keeper, goes up once again to hit the bar! What a goal that would have been !!

12" - Flanagan sits Dobson, picks Brown unmarked, Brown gets the pass, runs on the keeper, dribbles the keeper and its IN!! Great play by my team!!!! Brown scores!

1 - 0

17" - Free kick. Flanagan finds Batt alone, Batt receives and shoots, to hit the side net.

19" - Warner takes one, takes two, puts the ball in the penalty marker where Flanagan shoots to score... but he was offside! :-(

40" - Powell (SC) picks up his 2nd yellow card and takes an yearly bath :-)

43" - Indirect free kick, Warner centers and Flanagan hits a header to the bar.. very unlucky! Grays switch to a 4-4-1.

Half Time

Gilder (AMRL) comes in for Carroll (5).

63" - Gilder picks the ball on his half, runs with it, passes up front to Brown, Brown unmarked runs into the area, shoots, keeper saves, turning the ball away to the path of Warner, that shoots for Carshalton second goal of the game!!! Grays were caught with theyr panties down!!!

67" - Substitutions: Batt (65%) out, Le Bihan in. Woodwards in to play DMC, Brown (66%) out, Skelton advances on the pitch to AMC.

86" - Tozer misses an header, Remy (Grays) beats the offside, goes away and shoots for a great defence by Searle, uff... that was close..

92" - Game Over - We totally dominated this game with 12 shots (5 on - 7 out) against 4 shots.

Match Stats:

Carshalton 2 - 0 Grays

Brown (12)

Warner (65)

Brown (8) picks the MOM for this game. Great display by Carshalton. The board congratulates me for winning against all odds. On the financial front, things are going very badly as we are now 80k on the red! Next month i need to start to do some cutting on wages, even by dropping some players out of the team. Some potential targets are Elliott Ward (DC) on loan (1,4k Monthly), Simek (DC) on loan (900 monthly) if Tozer keeps a good performance. Also need to drop one scout (50k in compensation, less 800 a month). My wage budget is about 10k, and i am running on 21k...

See you all in next match.

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

I decided to terminate Elliott Ward (DC) loan and send him back. My wage bill dropped to 18,6k a month. I have Simek (DC on loan) and Tozer to cover the DC spot along with Burwood (DC). I have sent a press release to the media telling them that "I got the tactics right on that day" and that "we deserved to win". That got half of my team on high moral.

My scouts are a bunch of old ladies and can't seem to discover any player that will sign for free. They are supposed to know that we don't have a transfer budget right? Anyway, my team is performing well and John Hamsher (D/M R) is back from injury and fully fit to play!

21 August 2004

Game 3 away - (6/4 Fav) Cambridge City - Carshalton (13-8)

This time i had 4 days to get my players back to full fitness, and again that was not enough. Flanagan (68%) had to be replaced by Cooper. Hamsher gets his debut replacing Hartburn. Simek back from international call up replaces Tozer. Kevin Lock (SC) is called up to the bench. Once more i release a "We fear no one" press release, motivating my players even more.

Its a cold (12") dry day, and the stadium is packed with about 450 hostile Cambridge fans...

First Eleven:

GK - Searle

DR - Hamsher

DL - Wood

DC - Simek

DC - Burwood

DMC - Skelton

MR - Carroll (last chance to show something)

ML - Warner

AMC - Brown

AMC - Batt

FC - Cooper

Game Report

12" - Cambridge is one up with a defense error by Burwood, who forgot to mark the Cambridge striker

1 - 0

30" - Cambridge is pilling on the attack and we can only defend.

39" - Langstrom (Cambridge defender) runs over Cooper. Direct free kick in the frontal zone. Batt prepares to shot... he runs... hits.. ball deflected on the wall.. and ITS IN!! 25 yard screamer. Second direct free kick goal for Batt!!

1 - 1

40" - Cambridge switches to a 4-4-2 attacking style

Half Time

Brown comes out with a minor injury to be replaced by Gilder.

56" - Warner gets a yellow card. Cambridge is praticing target shooting with my keeper :-(

64" - Carroll hits the bar. How unlucky!! Time for some changes...

65" - Substitition: Lock (SC) replaces Cooper (SC). I am bringing in some fresh legs.

77" - Warner picks the ball in our midfield, leaves first Swonnell, then Miller and finally Scott behind, reaches the edge of the area and shoots a well placed strike... GOAL! Oh my! what a goal. Fantastic strike from Warner!

1 - 2

78" - I adjust my tactics for a more defensive formation, and i am going to try to explore the counter attacks.

87" - Lock receives a wonderfull pass by Batt but the Cambridge keeper Roberts stops the shot. Cambridge switches to a 3-4-3 very attacking formation. Its all or nothing for them!

89" - Cambridge keeper Roberts comes out of his area to intercept a ball, the ball ends up in Gilder feets, he advances and shoots from 35 yards to score an incredible GOAL! This ends up Cambridge game for sure!!

1 - 3

93" - Game Over. Another great game and 3 more goals. Also we proved we can resist very well to heavy pressure. I must congratulate my players for once more rising above the average. They were fantastic!!

Simek (8) picked the MOM for this game. Simek is a solid defender, having impressed me so far. We are now sitting in 2nd place with 9 points in 3 games, along side St. Albans (better goal difference) and Havant & Waterlooville. Bognor Regis and Newport Co are just behind with 7 points. Hornchurch and Thurrock fall in 6th place with 6 points. I can say that we are having a wonderfull league start, and i pray we can maintain that. I now have about 7 days to recover my players for the next home game against Lewes.

My board chairman Steve Friend declared himself "extremely pleased with the result" although he is concerned by the huge wage budget!!

See you all next game.

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

22 August

I am trying to sign Chris Payne (AM LC) and Ronnie Bridges (DL) for free, promising good % on future transfers.

Chris Payne (16 years AM LC) just signed for my team in exchange Elliott Hooper (17 years DL) and 35% future transfer fee. Payne will be Warner backup player for the left side.

This time around i got 7 full days to recover the condition of my players, and that worked wonders. All the guys are fully fitted (95% or more). Also i got into some media bashing with Lewe manager incrising to 13 my media rating. Also i saw my professionalism drop to 9. Pressure, Ambition, Loyalty and Temperament remain at 10. My reputation is Obscure... lol!

28 August 2004

Game 4 home - (Evens Fav) Carshalton - Lewe (9-4)

Flanagan is back at 100%. He comes in to replace Cooper. Going to test a new MR replacing Carroll with Gilder. Tozer (DC), Woodards (MC), Payne (AMLC), Carroll (MRC) and Cooper (SC) sit in the bench.

The weather is getting colder but still dry. The War Memorial Sports Ground, with capacity for 8000, is once again packed with... 354 fans! I need to motivate our fans even more, so i can get better gate receipts. Going to use the media some more.

First Eleven

GK - Searle

DR - Hamsher

DL - Wood

DC - Simek

DC - Burwood

DMC - Skelton

MR - Gilder

ML - Warner

AMC - Brown

AMC - Batt

FC - Flanagan

Game Report

8" - Batt gets a yellow card for diving. Must explain to my players that they are not playing in the swimming pool!

37" - Warner falls in the area (looked like a dive). The ref points to the spot. Penalty. Hamsher stepst up, shots and GOAL!! Hamsher first goal of the season. Perhaps i will let them dive just a little *G*

1 - 0

45" - Warner receives a lovely pass from Wood, leaves a defender behind, goes to the line and centers to Batt in the six yard box. Batt has time to ask the keeper where he wants it and shots for another GOAL!! Nice team play, and once again Warner is wrecking havoc in the other teams area!!

2 - 0

47" - Indirect free kick by Wood with a pass to the box where Burwood receives the ball and gets trashed by a defender. The ref points again to the spot. Hamsher steps up and GOAL!! Second goal of the game for Hamsher, and again from a penalty. Maybe i have here a penalty specialist.. so far i gets 2 on 2!

3 - 0

Half Time

I will take this opportunity to give some playing time to some less used subs. So Payne gets hes debut replacing Warner and Toser replaces Simek.

65" - Brown gets a lovely pass from Flanagan, he runs alone, but wastes the opportunity hiting the sky!!

67" - Batt heads the ball to Flanagan, Flanagan shots, keeper saves, Brown clear on target hits the side net! What a waste...

88" Once more Brown alone with the keeper but he shots right into the keepers hands.

Hamsher (8) got the MOM, but Skelton in midfield got an impressive 49 passes (38 completed) and 6 in 6 tackles won. Also won 4 in 5 headers. Seems that this guy runs the midfield for our team. Gilder was very disapponting ending with a rate of 4. His next stop.. the bench.

Meanwhile Margate (tipped for promotion) crashed again sitting now in 12th. On the top of the table the 3 leaders are still the same.

We will have now 14 days to recover and prepare our away game with Margate. Maybe we can explore the bad run Margate is having and bring another victory to Carshalton.

Until next game,

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

I just decided to alter the story format to a more compact one. So i will be reporting the monthly games and news instead of every match game.

September, Season 2004/2005

This month we will have our first serious test against Margate (A - 11/9) (promotion contenders). There are another 3 games against Weymouth (H), Newport Co (H) and Redbridge (H). Those home games will improve our financial situation for sure. Talking about finances, Carshalton ended up the month with:

Income: 4,062

Expenses: 33,681

Profit/Loss: -29,619

Balance: -89,935

Wage Budget: 9,500 month

Current Wage: 18,648 month

Things are looking pretty dark on the financial front.

In the League front we are battling for 1st place with St. Albans and Havant, all with 12 points. Newport Co comes behind with 10 points. Although my objectives are mid table, i am quite pleased with fantastic league start.

Our first game of the month is quite dificult, since while we are classified by media as "battling against relegation" our contender Margate is "battling for promotion", and the game is at Margate's home. For this coming game i exchanged Gilder again with Carroll, since Gilder failed to show me he deserves the place.

11/9 Game 5 away - (5-4 Fav) Margate 2 - 0 Carshalton (7-4)

Margate started with a 4-3-3 atacking formation against my 4-5-1 defensive formation. All my players were 100% fit and i was looking forward, if a bit afraid, to this match. Margate started the assault at my "castle" right from the start of the game. Our first shot on target got in at 22" in the game with a long range effort by Warner, that missed the target. Flanagan got a yellow card at 36" for pushing a defender. Half time comes in and we managed to hold Margate out, and even scared them with some fast paced counters. Our right midfield side is our weak link. Carroll and Gilder can't perform well and i don't have anyone else. So i try once more Gilder for Carroll (5).

Second half started with our team on the offensive but a fast Margate counter puts them 1 up at 55". I decide to bring some attacking fresh legs by replacing Flanagan (6), with cooper, and tweaking our 4-5-1 to a more offensive stance. 65" Margate scores a long range direct free kick. Oh well, this game is over! Batt is out with a minor injury and Woodards comes in to replace him. Until the end we keep failing the finishing touch.

18/9 Game 6 home - (7/4) Carshalton 0 - 1 Weymouth (5/4 Fav)

After last game poor porformance of our right midfield side i decide to bring in Tutu Henriques (MR with low stats) for this game. This will be an experience to see if i can level up our game flow down both flanks instead of always down the left flank. The rest of the team stays the same. Our attendance for this game reached a good number with 1120 watchers giving us about 5k in gate revenue.

Weymouth started with a 3-5-2 Attacking style. I maintained my faith with my 4-5-1 defensive tactic. Game started and they go straight away to the attack with 3 shots on target in the first 5 minutes. 15 minutes into the game and Burwood jumps unfairly on the attacker causing a penalty. Weymoth doesn't fail to convert and get 1 up. We need to do something, since we are being runned over by Weymouth. Meanwhile Tutu suffers a minor injury and i have to get Gilder in to replace him. I also take the opportunity to change to a 4-4-2 Atacking style. 60 minutes into the game and still no shot on target from Carshalton. We are being totally dominated. Anyway, lost for 1 or 2 is the same, so i get into a 4-1-2-1-2 tactic that trasnforms itself on the attack into a 4-3-3. Also i replace Flanagan (4) with Cooper and Warner (5) with Payne. Game over for Carshalton with only 3 shots, all of them off target. Poor performance from my team, or maybe i just hit the good league teams!!

Back to the drawing board for next match. I am still 3rd place 4 points behind 1st (Newport Co, my next opponent) and 3 points from St. Albans. Next game is crutial for my aspirations as we are going to play 1st place Newport Co.

25/9 Game 7 home - (7/4) Carshalton 1 - 1 Newport Co (5/4 Fav)

Cooper, Carroll and Tozer in, Simek, Tutu and Flanagan out. Tutu and Flanagan are unfit. The FA Cup Second Round put Rothwell (non league team) in our path. It shouldn't be difficult to get thru. On the tactic side, i have transformed my 4-5-1 into a 4-4-1-1 more solid in the midfield and built on the counter attack. Lets see how it goes in its first serious test.

Newport Co uses a standard 4-4-2 attacking tactic. They have a strong team and theyr 1st league position is the proof. Newport scored first at 32" and we got an equalizer late in the game at 74" by Flanagan that replaced Cooper in the 2nd half. The game ended a draw in goals, shots and boredom.

The stadium got a nice croud of 1124 fans, that left about 6k of precious money in our gates.

28/9 Game 8 home - (Evens Fav) Carshalton 2 - 0 Redbridge (9-4)

Going to try the new 4-4-1-1 tactic once more with the following linup:

GK - Searle

DR - Hamsher

DL - Wood

DC - Simek

DC - Burwood

DMC - Murdoch

MC - Skelton

MC - Le Bihan

MC - Chris Batt

AMC - Brown

FC - Flanagan

The oposition is weaker this time, so i will take this chance to test more solutions to my limited team. Redbridge plays a 4-4-2 atacking line up with a pacey attack, or so tells me my scout. 31" and Ben Lewis, Redbridge defender gets its second yellow card and goes for an earlier bath. 53 minutes and Flanagen ends a run that started in our midfield with a fantastic goal on the counter attack. The second half is one sided. 68 Minutes and another counter attack results in 2-0 with Flanagan scoring its second of the game. I replace Flanagan and Brown, both very tired with McDonnell and Carroll. Batt goes to the AMC position. 74 minutes sees Batt getting injured and replaced by Woodards (MC on loan). Meanwhile McDonnell wastes two clear opportunities, adding up to my jumping heart. Game ended with our team dominating with 13 (8 on, 5 off) shots against 6 (1 on, 5 off). Fun thing is that both teams got 100% tackles won. Flanagan (9) got the MOM due mainly for the two goals. Chris Batt picked up an fractured wrist and will stay out for a month. This is a serious blow to my team since this guy was a first team player, and a very good one.

In other games, Newport trashed Hayes 6 - 2 at home, St. Albans lost 4 - 1 away to Cambridge and Margate lost home 1 - 2 to Havant.

After this last game in this month the table looks like this:

My main objective for next month is to win the FA Cup matches, and try to stay between 4th and 9th. I am sure i am going to miss Chris Batt, and i hope the replacement is up to the task.

See you next month,

Cheers,

October, Season 2004/2005

This month we have 4 games scheduled, 2 home and 2 away. First game is against Rothwell for the FA Cup second round, then we go to Basingstoke and Hayes, ending the month on a home game against Eastbourne. All the games are pretty well within our reach, so i expect a very rewarding month.

2/10 Game FA Cup 2nd Round Qual. - (1-10 Fav) Carshalton 3 - 1 Rothwell (15-1)

The only change in my team is the inclusion of Chris Payne and the exclusion due to injury of Chris Batt. Simek opens Rothwell defence at 18" finishing a team play inside the box after Le Bihan assist. 37" Brown finishes a superb pass by Flanagan for the 2 - 0. 52 minutes both Simek first and Hamsher later fail to intercept a long pass leaving the Rothwell striker with a simple finish for the 2 - 1. I take this chance to bring in some fresh legs, replacing Le Bihan and Murdoch with Carroll and Woodards. 71" corner by Woodards at first post where Carroll flicks the ball in for the 3 - 1. Match ends with 22 shots on goal by my team against only 4 from Rothwell. We need to improve our shooting % because 3 goals in 22 shots and only 9 of those on target is very poor by my standards. On a sad note, Chris Payne got injured with a strained wrist and has to stop for one week. On the bright side we had 1530 fans watching the game and leaving 8k at the gates and a prize money of 4k.

Just released Sam Saunders and Mark Costello from the team paying 4k and saving 380 in monthly fees. Next going out will be Marlon Petterson, but he wants 5k compensation. Maybe next month.

Anyway we are thru to the next qualifying round where we will play Gateshead (another non league team) at home. The game is scheduled to 16 this month. This is good news because it will allow us to increase our income this month.

Another injury, this time for Carroll, with a demaged shoulder that makes him stop for two weeks.

16/10 Game FA Cup 3rd Round Qual. - (6-4 Fav) Carshalton 3 - 0 Gateshead (13-8)

For this game i bring in Warner to replace Murdoch with Skelton going to the DMC position. This should be another easy game, coming our way. 7" and Brown scores a header after a bad ball from defence resulted from a cross by Flanagan. 10" Brown assists Flanagan for the 2-0. Warner injured has to come off, replaced by Woodards. Half time, Flanagan is replaced by Cooper. First half ended with a 14 shots on goal, 5 on, 9 off. My guys are going on target practicing for some weeks!! 75" Le Bihan assists Cooper for the 3-0. Game ends with Le Bihan (10) receiving the MOM! Skelton and Brown also played very well. Carshalton are thru to the 4th Round. Gate receipts registered about 900 fans. We received 5k in prize money and Warner got 2 weeks stop with a twisted ankle. Looks like i am getting one injury every game.

The 4th round draw put Eastbourne in our path. The game is away and we are playing a team that belongs to our league, incrising this way the chances of getting to the 5th round.

19/10 Game 9 away - (13-8) Basingstoke 2 - 3 Carshalton (6-4 Fav)

I have to take Warner out due to injury and bring Woodards in. The rest stays the same. Basingstoke presents themselves with a 4-4-2 attacking formation. The game starts with my team on the attack. 4" into the game and Flanagan picks a ball from my keeper after a defender failure to intercept it, bores down on goal, rounds the keeper and scores. Can't have wished for a better start. 8" and Wood passes the ball to Le Bihan, the men shoots a long range banana shot from 25 yards scoring the second for my team. Great goal from Le Bihan. Fantastic start! at 17" Basingstoke answers back with a shot outside the area for another good goal. Its 2-1 for my team. The game is very open. 23", Le Bihan takes the corner, puts the ball in the penalty area and Burwood heads it down for another goal. 44" and Basingstoke scores again after a nice play. This game is very open with chances for both teams. Half time comes in with Basingstoke shooting 9 times against 12 shots from my team. Woodards and Payne pick a yeallow card for diving. Payne has to come out at 59" with a minor injury, Gilder takes his place. 70" Brown hits the bar from inside the 6 yard box. 75" Basingstoke striker gets the second yeallow card for diving and goes out. I replace Woodards (tired 65%) and Flanagan (saving him for next match) with Murdoch and Cooper. Until the end my boys waste 5 more goal chances, ending up with 23 shots, 11 on, 12 off. My new tactic creates alot of shots but the scoring line is always low compared to the amount of shots taken. Anyway, it was a good game and my team showed some nice moves. The defense needs a new central defender and a good DMC. We are conceding to many goals. Next stop, Hayes. In other games the good news is that St. Albans lost to Hornchurch. We are now 3rd.

23/10 Game 10 away - (13-8) Hayes 3 - 4 Carshalton (6-4 Fav)

We are the favorites once more. Tozer, Gilder and Payne are unhappy, because i have lowered theyr status on the team from first team to rotation, and want to leave the club. Tozer and Payne are good players for the future, so i need to motivate them to stay. This time i have to take out Payne (unfit 80%) and bring in Murdoch. Hayes plays a 3-5-2 scheme. The hayes midfield is very well populated, but i think they are vulnarable on the defense. 1" and my team goes for another fantastic start. Free kick from Le Bihan, header by Flanagan and goal! Hayes go on to the offensive, since they are one down right from the start. I am hoping to explore the counter attack. 15" Hayes striker lobs the ball for a nice goal. All level now. 31" Le Bihan takes a corner on the right, crosses to the 6 yard box where Skelton heads it for one more goal. 2-1 to Carshalton. Another nice and fast paced game by both teams. 33" Woodards intercepts a ball in our defence, makes a long pass to Flanagan, he takes out the last defender and goes straight down the goal where he scores another one. Second goal of the game and a nice performance. Our counter attack is very dangerous. 40" Brown picks up a serious injury and has to come out. Cooper replaces him. Also Hamsher has a minor injury, but i will let him play some more. Second half starts with a long range effort by Hayes that hits the bar. 54" Tozer comes in to replace the injured Hamsher. Cooper first, and Flanagan after, lost two great counter attack chances shooting the ball to the stands. 74" Wood puts the ball on the right flank on Skelton, he runs to the line and crosses to the second post where Le Bihan heads it down for another good team goal. Its now 4-1 to my team and i can rest now, because this one is mine! I take Le Bihan out (tired 66%) for a standing ovation and bring Gilder in. Le Bihan was outstanding today. Hayes changes to a 2-3-5 formation, in an all or nothing bid for more goals. 79" Simek jumps unfarly on the Hayes striker. Penalty and goal reducing the advantage to two goals. 83" Hayes scores again from a long range shot. Now i am worried. We are letting them run the midfield. Maybe Le Bihan substitution was an error, since it appears that he was running our midfield, something Gilder is failing to do. Pinnock, Hayes striker got the 3rd goal in this match. We spend the last 10 minutes of the game defending with 10 men and Searle our goalkeeper puts in some brillant saves. Game ends 4-3 to us. I will make this a lesson.. The game is never won before the final whistle. Flanagan (10) got the MOM. He made 14 runs, got caught offside 7 times, made 9 shots on goal, 7 of them on target, and scored 2 goals. Fantastic game for Flanagan. Hamsher picked a groin strain and faces a 2 week stop, Brown has a twisted knee and faces 1 week stop. Next stop, FA Cup 4th round qualifying away against Eastbourne Boro.

30/10 Game FA Cup 4rd Round Qual. - (9-4) Eastbourne 1 - 3 Carshalton (Evens Fav)

The English FA Trophy first round draw put Rothwell again in our path. The game will be played next month in our home ground. Just sold Gary Elliott (30 years DC) to Harrow Boro for 3k. Burwood my best central defender picks a groin strain in trainning and is out for two weeks. Fans are concerned by this and think we have suffered a serious blow to our campaign. I share theyr opinion and hope that Tozer is up to the task of replacing Burwood in our defence. I release a statement to the media saying we will try to beat Eastbourne, to offset the injury of one of our best players.

Eastbourne defence is classified by my scout as "rock solid". Tozer replaces Burwood and Hartburn replaces Hamsher in the defence. Also Payne replaces Brown, all of them injured. Carroll is back from injury and fully fited, so he sits on the bench. Eastbourne plays a 4-4-2 attacking formation. I maintain the 4-4-1-1 tactic that has been showing some excellent results. First half is pretty quiet with Eastbourne on the attack and our defence showing itself very solid and lauching several counter attacks where we lack the finishing touch with 7 shots all of them off target. 56" Skelton crosses the ball, Flanagan receives the pass, dribbles one defender and scores. Nice move and nice finishing. I bring Cooper in to replace Payne (tired 68%). 64" nice Eastbourne play with a cross the my defenders failed to intercept and an easy goal for Scott Ramsay, Eastbourne striker. 68" fast counter attack started by Cooper, long pass to Flanagan, he dribbles past one defender, rounds the keeper and scores his second of the game. 70" Murdoch passes to Flanagan, he runs with the ball, enters the box and shoots for his hat-trick. 3-1 for my team and Flanagan is showing up how fantastic he his. He had a slow start, but now scores for fun. Flanagan is a nice striker with 20 in heading, good accelaration and pace, and 10 in dribbling, finishing and creativity. 70" out comes Flanagan (tired 62%) and LeBihan (tired 64%), replaced by Stone (SC) and Carroll (MRC). The game ends and we are celebrating our victory and the fact that we are in the FA Cup 1st round. Flanagan(10) picks another MOM with his hat-trick. We get 10k in prize money. Our finances were stable for this month, and we managed to lower our wage bill and have some profit in the end.

The month ends very well for us with 5 victories in 5 games, scoring 15 goals and taking in 7.

The Conference South league table looks like this:

Newport mantains the winning streak and leads the Conference South. We are up in 2nd place followed by Weymouth and Dorchester. St. Albans lost alot of points this month dropping to 6th.

Next month we have 8 games to play, some of them very though like home with Havant and St. Albans and away to Welling. Also we have two cup matches schedule that we must win, so we can continue to recuperate our finances.

See you next month...

Cheers,

Average attendance for the league is 926, Carshalton average attendance is 920. Highest for the league is 1527 from Carshalton vs Redbridge, and for Carshalton is 1567 in the FA Cup Carshalton vs Rothwell. Pretty low. Income goes around 2 to 8k a game.

This is my first time story and i am enjoying it very much.

Cheers,

November, Season 2004/2005

What a grand performance we put up last month. Can only hope we can maintain this winning streak. Next fixtures will see us receiving Eastbourne for the league after we beat them in the Cup. Eastbourne manager already started playing media mind games by stating:

quote:

Wilson said "it would be hard for Carshalton to remain in Conference South. Perhaps Santos should start preparing Carshalton for Regional Divisions football next season"

Hard words, that i left unanswered because Skelton, Le Bihan © and Brown reacted stating that following Garry Wilson's recent comments to the media that "the team can cope with big occasions and they can win the big games whitout much effort". Morale is very high at War Memorial grounds. Even better news is the returning from injury of Chris Batt.

Meanwhile i am starting to prepare to grab some new youngsters when the winter transfer window opens. The prospects are:

Andrew Wright, 19 years old DMC that was 3 years at the Liverpool and is a free agent. Good passing, tackling, acceleration and positioning.

Danny Foster, 20 years old DC from Tottenham schools.

Darren Horrigan, 21 years old GK that played for Lincoln and Scarborough and comes from Birmingham schools.

Alam Gillespie, 16 years old ML, product from the lower leagues that has some potential.

Also i have sent my 2 scouts to watch a batch of 20 assorted players. I hope to discover some rough diamonds there.

The last month ended also well on the financial front due mainly for the 19k in prize money we received in the FA Cup:

Income: 44,568

Expenses: 32,441

Profit/Loss: + 12,127

Balance: - 84,510

Wage budget: 13,500 per month

Current Wage: 18,208 per month

We are now only 6k above budget and for the first time our profit/loss was positive. I am also trying a mutual termination with Petterson but he doesn't want to leave. My reserves and U-18 are not playing any fixtures, probably because i don't have enough players in both teams.

Lets get on to the next match...

3/11 Game 11 home - (4-5 Fav) Carshalton 1 - 0 Eastbourne (3-1)

Attendance: 1275

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: James Carr

Chris Batt and Jermaine Brown are back from injurys but still unfit to play so i keep the same eleven that won the last game against Eastbourne.

Carshalton (4-4-1-1): Searle, Hartburn, Wood, Simek and Tozer, Murdoch, Skelton, Le Bihan and Woodwards, Payne and Flanagan. Subs: Henriques, Cooper, Gilder, Stone and Carroll.

Eastbourne (4-4-2): Hook, Myall, Tuck, Chapman, and Elphick, O. Rowland, Kirkwood, Smart and Simmonds, Brady and S. Rowland

Game starts with our team applying great pressure on Eastbourne. First 15 minutes they aren't able to cross the midfield line. The game reaches half time with Eastbourne getting only one shot on goal. Second half starts with my faith in the same team. 53" Skelton crosses to the area where Flanagan heads it to the top right corner for a nice goal. 70" i bring Carroll to replace the tired Payne. Game ends with us making 21 shots, 6 on target and 15 off... Darn! Lee Hook, Eastbourne keeper got the MOM. No injurys this time. We dominated but clearly failed to finish all the chances of goal.

6/11 Game FA Trophy 1rd Round - (1-10 Fav) Carshalton 2 - 2 Rothwell (15-1)

Attendance: 178

Wheather: Dry 7'C

Another Cup game with a weaker opponent (in teory). The physio reports Chris Batt, Jermaine Brown and John Hamsher fully fited to play, and i drafted them on the bench for this next game, maintaining the same eleven players. My center back Burwood is the only injury casualtie at the momment.

4" and Woodards puts the ball upfield in Flanagan, the men dribbles past a defender and scores. 1-0 for Carshalton early in the game. 9" my central defenders stay put and from the middle of them Rothwell striker shoots to score a nice goal. 1-1, Rothwell answers back very fast. 32" we are caught by a fast counter attack and suffer another goal. The goal keeper could have intercepted the ball but stayed between the posts. Half time, and i am starting to get nervous. I will give them 10 more minutes before bringing in some fresh legs. 46" sees Flanagan going to the line, dribbles one denfensor and crosses to the edge of the 6 yard box where Payne is alone, heading it for a nice counter attack goal. 70" Woodards and Payne out, Batt and Brown in. No luck for us. Rothwell got 3 shots on goal and scored twice. We got 10 shots and also scored twice. Not fair! Anyway, now we have one more game. We will have to face them again in 4 days, this time at Rothwell ground.

10/11 Game FA Trophy 1rd Round - (15-1) Rothwell 0 - 3 Carshalton (1-10 Fav)

Attendance: 173

Wheather: Dry 11'C

Referee: Mike Thorpe

Hayes manager, Willy Wordsworth is given the ultimatum by the board, Basingstoke sacks Ernie Howe. I make an offer for Adam Gillespie (16 years ML) of Heybridge and they reply they want Petterson in exchange. I am only to happy to aggree! Gillespie wants 50 a month, and i get rid of Petterson who receives 200 a month. Meanwhile the FA Trophy second round brings Team Bath in our path away, if we can get a victory with Rothwell. Hayes loses again at home before Bishop's Stortford and Willy Wordsworth gets the sack.

Batt and Brown go back to the first eleven, Woodards and Payne sit on the bench. Burwood is out of injury but still unfit to play, maybe next game. 7" Brown leaves the ball to Tozer, he shoots from 25 yards out and scores his first of the season. Lets see if we can hold Rothwell this time. 37" Wood with a long pass to Flanagan, he chips the ball over the defender, and shoots to the left top corner puting us 2 up. 48" Flanagan picks up an injury and its game over for him. I bring Cooper to replace him. Also i replace Murdoch (DMC) and bring in Carroll to the midfield. Skelton drops back to DMC. 59" free kick in the midfield line. Simek steps up aims a long ball between the Rothwell defenders where Cooper receives, turns around and shoots, scoring a good goal. Simek (8) gets the MOM and Skelton shows me that he plays well as DMC. Skelton is much better then Murdoch, so next game i will try him in that position. The bad news is Flanagan picking a strained knee ligaments, stopping him for 1 moth. Argh.. My best striker! The media are all over me asking questions about how we are going to cope with this blow. I tell them we "have players capable of covering for him", praying inside that Cooper can be up to the task.

Adam Gillespie, the 16 years old good prospect signs with us, and we get rid of Petterson.

13/11 Game FA Cup 1st Round - (5-4 Fav) Hendon 1 - 1 Carshalton (7-4)

Attendance: 1122

Wheather: Dry 6'C

Referee: Keith Hill

Hendon is a team from the lower leagues, but they are the favorites for this match. My scout says their team is mediocre but the attack line is pacey and can cause problems.

I make many changes in my team, Hamsher (D/M R), Burwood (DC), Warner (AML) and Cooper (SC) are brought in to the squad, some after injury, to replace Hartburn (played very well replacing Hamsher as DR), Tozer (weaker then Burwood but a good backup as DC), Murdoch (going to try Skelton as DMC and Warner as ML) and Flanagan (injured). Simek goes on an international match and i have to bring Tozer in again.

Hendon presents itself with a 5-3-2 with two DM's (R and L) with arrows up for a 3-5-2 when attacking. Skelton sees a yellow at 8". Cooper dives and finds a yellow card at 15". 17" corner by Batt, header by Burwood and goal. Burwood is back! 59" Hendon draws level. 72" Skelton is furious with the ref and picks the second yellow card. I replace my striker with Carroll to try to defend this result and bid for a second game. Now i am furious with Skelton!! Until the end we have to take some heavy pressure from Hendon and Searle makes a couple of brillant saves, to secure a draw and a second game in our home. Burwood (8) gets the MOM. Skelton is banned for one match and receives my warning about being sent off. Skelton reacts well to the warning promising better behavior in future games.

17/11 Game 12 away - (7-4) Bishop's Stortford 0 - 1 Carshalton (5-4 Fav)

Attendance: 1102

Wheather: Breezy 5'C

Referee: Peter Eastwood

We get Rushden & Diamonds from League Two away in the FA Cup 2nd round if we can go past Hendon. Tough match and probably the end of our FA Cup campaign.

Skeldon out suspended, Murdoch in. Simek is still away in international games. Bishop's uses a 4-4-2 attacking formation. 28" Batt on the righ side skips past two defenders, puts the ball in area where Cooper picks it up and is left with only the keeper to beat, he shots to the left up corner and scores our first goal. Good counter by our team. Half time and i take Warner (3) out and bring Payne in. 75" Stone and Woodards replace the tired Cooper and Brown. I need some fresh legs to try more counters. Until the end we miss two ocasions to score on the couter and Searle makes a couple of great saves securing us the victory. Chris Batt (10) picks the MOM. This 24 year old player is one of the best players i have. He keeps playing very well and consistent.

Newport mantains its unbeaten record of 12 games without losing dispite the fact that they drew 3-3 with Havant.

20/11 Game 13 away - (7-4) Thurrock 1 - 0 Carlshalton (5-4 Fav)

Attendance: 423

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: Gary Mellor

Simek is back from the international games. My Ass. Manager tells me he is the main force behind our team, so i put him back replacing Tozer. Skeldon returns from suspension to play again as DMC replacing Murdoch.

Thurrock presents themselves with a very attacking 4-4-2 with the ML/MR getting arrows to FL/FR. First half goes very fast with chances for both teams. I notice that Cooper is very slow to work as a lone striker on the counter attack. Le Bihan and Brown take a yeallow card. Going to replace Cooper for Stone and Warner (5) with Payne. I am hoping for faster counter attacks. 52" Batt lets fly a 20 yards shot that hits the bar. We continue to have alot of chances on the counter attack, but no speed to make the most out of them. Flanagan really makes a difference and it appears i have no good backup for him. 71" Thurrock striker Alsop scores a long shot from 25 yards. We are 1 down. 79" I take Brown (tired 62%) out and put Woodards in to give more streng to my midfield. We go on the attack and Thurrock players take 5 yellow cards in the last 10 minutes. Game ends with a defeat, but Chris Batt (8) takes the MOM. Oh well, we can't always win and our strikers are to slow. Next game i will try the other striker i have.

I am now on the market for a fast attacker with decent finishing abilities. Our trasnfer budget of 1k doesn't help much, but we never know!

Players i am scouting:

Matthew Platt, 21 years, listed for loan from Crewe

Jermaine Easter, 22 years, listed for loan from Cambridge

Simon Barraclough, 21 years, listed for loan from Rotherham

Daniel White, 19 years, listed for loan from Fulham

Adam Birchall, 19 years, listed for loan from Arsenal (16 finishing, 15 pace)

24/11 Game FA Cup 1st Round replay - (13-8) Carshalton 4 - 2 Hendon (6-4 Fav)

Attendance: 1027

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: Steve Tomlim

My only change is to bring Woodards in for Warner who is performing very badly after the injury.

Hendon use the good old 4-4-2 with midfield wingers having arrows to the AM position. We have to win this game, so our finances are kept in check. Game starts with Carshalton on the offensive. 18" Simek intercepts a ball in defense, passes a very long range to Hendon midfield where Cooper running away from the defenders shoots for the first goal of the night. 19" Hendon scores on the counter attack. Very fast answer by Hendon to the early advantage we got. We were still celebrating when they scored. It seemed Ofori (the scorer) was offside. Darn referee. 27" Corner by Batt on the left side to the edge of the six yard box where Simek shows up on the "first floor" hitting the ball fast and furious with a header to the goal. 2-1 for Carshalton. Half time arrives and we are still leading. 49" Skelton makes a lovely ball from midfield into the area where Cooper shows up, dribbles past the keeper and puts the ball inside for another goal making it 3-1 to us. We are going more defensive now, hoping to secure this advantage. 72" and i bring a pair of fresh legs into the midfield by replacing Brown and Batt with Payne and Murdoch. 76" Ofori scores his second of the game inside the 6 yard box. Wood was out of position and late to recover to put Ofori in offside. My central defenders were already out of there and advancing the line. Defensive error. 80" another shot from Ofori, and this time he was offside. The ref needs a pair of glasses! Hendon is pilling on the pressure. 89" Cooper receives a long pass from Murdoch, dribles one defender and shoots low for his hat-trick. Great performance from Cooper. And that is game over to Hendon

Game ends and we are thru to the FA Cup 2nd round away against Rushden (4/12). Kevin Cooper (10) picks the MOM with solid performances also by Simek and Skelton. FA awards us 12k that will help decrease our losses.

27/11 Game FA Trophy 2nd round - (7-1) Team Bath 0 - 3 Carshalton (1-3 Fav)

Attendance: 177

Wheather: Strong wind, wet 13'C

Referee: Paul Ronbinson

3 days to rest all my players is not near enough, but we are strong and dedicated, and are ready to face Team Bath a "mediocre team" as my scout classified them. I will use the same eleven from last match. Team Bath plays in a 4-4-2 very attacking system with the midfield wingers going all the way to the FL/FR positions.

13" Wood makes a long run on the left side, centers the ball and Cooper makes it 1-0. 29" Searle with a long ball, Brown misses the header, Cooper picks the loose ball, runs a little with the ball, and fires a 25 yards missile to make it 2-0. Fantastic goal by Cooper, assist goes to the goalkeeper Searle. 67" its Payne, Stone and Warner in for Le Bihan, Cooper and Brown, all very tired (low 60 high 50). 90" Stone passes to Batt, he makes a first touch pass ahead to unmarked Warner, that enters the area and shots low and hard to make it 3-0. We are thru to the FA Trophy 3rd round. Chris Batt (10) takes the MOM. Nice performance also from Cooper (8 and 2 goals) and Burwood (9). We further add to our financial effort with another 3k in prize money.

This was the last match of the month. We played 8 games in 27 days, and that is very hard for a team with so limited resources as ours is.

Anyway, the balance is very positive since we are still in both FA Cup and FA Trophy and have a chance of earning even more prize money. In the league we are now 4th but only 4 points away from 1st place.

Newport mantains the 1st place, unbeated so far in 14 games. We are now 4th, but we have one game less. Our position is great because its well within the promotion places, even if we have to play the playoffs.

Everything is running well for me and my team, but though months are coming our way.

Meanwhile in Premier, Arsenal with 32 points in 14 games leads with Aston Villa (-1), Newcastle (-3), Chelsea (-6) and Birmingham (-6) in close persuit.

In the Championship, Leicester is in the lead with 44 points in 19 games, with Nott Forest (-5) and Wolves (-7) close behind.

See you all next month.

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

Ty Millwall. I am improving it as time goes by, since this is my first attempt.

Franklin Simek, 20 Years, DC, Arsenal, U.S.A.

He signs for lower devision teams. He just asked for 1800 a month and i offered him 1700 (my max wage i can offer). Arsenal settled for about 1k up front and 45k in 24 months, plus 20% on future trasnfer. My staff thinks very highly of him, and he has been very solid paring with Burkwood and Tozer.

December, Season 2004/2005

November was a very positive month both in and off the field. Our finances are now even better with another positive month:

Income: 36,289

Expenses: 26,689

Profit/Loss: + 9,600

Balance: - 74,910

Wage budget: 13,500 per month

Current Wage: 18,128 per month

We are now less then 5k away from our Wage budget, and on the right path, but we have alot of players in the last six months of contract, by the end of December, and we need to negotiate new contrats with them.

31/05/2005 - Danny Carroll (Contract offered)

30/06/2005 - Adrian Stone, Gavin Skelton, Jermaine Brown, John Burwood, Chris Payne, Lewis Tozer, Matty Warner, Phillip Gilder, Dale Marvell, Adam Gillespie.

From those, Brown, Burwood and Tozer don't want to sign, the rest is offered a new contract. My best players are not in the mood to stay with us one more season. Dunno if i should start offering them away to get some cash or try to sign them later.

My personal profile now reads:

Pressure: 10

Ambition: 10

Loyalty: 11

Media: 20

Professionalism: 13

Temperament: 11

I am a media lover!! What can i say...

This month is packed fully with games. 8 games in total. 7 league games and the FA Cup 2nd round against Rushden. If only we can surprise them and win... whishing and praying!

Update: All players except Brown, Burwood and Tozer, signed new deals till 2006. The wage budget is now 18,215.

4/12 Game FA Cup 2st Round replay - (1-8 Fav) Rushden 1 - 0 Carshalton (12-1)

Attendance: 4708

Wheather: Dry 6'C

Referee: Phil Joslim

Rushden are clearly the favorites for this match. Our only hope is to catch them on a bad day. Teams are ready for the battle.

Rushden using a 4-4-2: Turley, Gray, Sambrook, Allen and Hunter, A Burgess, Bell, Mills and Dempster, dove and Seddon.

Carshalton using a 4-4-1-1: Searle, Wood, Hamsher, Burwood and Simek, Skelton, Batt, Le Bihan and Woodwards, Brown and Cooper.

3" into the game and Searle is already making amazing saves. 5" fast counter led by Batt and Woodards hits the bar. 25" Bell crosses and Dempster scores. Half time comes in and we are almost level with them on shots 7-6. The result is still 1-0 to Rushden. We will try to score and bring the game to our home ground. 74" i bring in Stone, Murdoch and Payne to replace the very tired Cooper, Le Bihan and Brown. Game ends and we couldn't score at least one goal. We were so close to bring the game back to our turf. Chris Batt (8) takes another MOM. Woodards and Searle also played very well. We ended up with 10 shots, 2 on 8 off, against 14 shots, 4 on 10 off from Rushden. To bad but life goes on. At least we received 36k in gate receipts!!

John Rains gets sacked at Sutton United.

8/12 Game 14 home - (5-4 Fav) Carshalton 2 - 2 St. Albans (7-4)

Attendance: 1008

Wheather: Dry 4'C

Referee: Kevin Pike

Dispite being hailed as favorites i know that St. Albans have a good team. The same eleven from last game are used again. St. Albans uses a standard 4-4-2. 8" and Brown escapes on a counter attack where we put 4 mens against 2, he singles out Batt with a great pass, keeper comes out, but Batt strikes it from 20 yards out to make it 1-0. 12" Woodards dives and finds a yellow card waiting for him. 25" Burwood with a long pass from our defence to the middle of St. Albans field to Cooper, keeper gets out to face him, but Cooper lobs the ball over the keeper to make it 2-0. 30" Brown sees a yellow card for holding. 63" Simek fails to intercept the ball and that leaves the St. Albans striker alone to score. 67" i bring some fresh legs into the field by replacing Cooper and Brown with Stone and Payne. 70" bad pass by Searle, shot in and goal. 2-2 now. What a mistake from our keeper. Game over with Burwood (8) getting the MOM. Jermaine Brown reaches yellow card limit and is banned for one match

Meanwhile Newport Co gets a trashing by Welling 4-1 and that ends the 15 games serie without any loss. Arsenal youngster Adam Birchall agrees to join us on loan. Birchall is a 20 years old striker with good finishing, acceleration, work rate and pace (all 16), and also above average on corners and off the ball. I hope he can replace Flanagan in the next few games. Best of all is that we are paying 0% of his fees.

FC Porto wins the Inter-Continental Cup 3-2 against Once Caldas.

11/12 Game 15 home - (6-4 Fav) Carshalton 2 - 0 Dorchester (13-8)

Attendance: 1038

Wheather: Dry 5'C

Referee: Martin Dexter

We are now facing good opposition. Dorchester is 2nd in the league. They play a 5-3-2 offensive scheme. For this game i replace Cooper with the new guy Birchall. Also Brown, suspended, is replaced by Payne. 49" Throw in by Hamsher to Woodards, he passes to Batt that fires a 20 yards shot making the 1-0. Half time and i have Le Bihan already tired (71%). 60" Carroll comes in for Bihan. 67" Dorchester goes for a 3-2-2-1-2 extremely offensive tactic. 79" Payne receives the ball deep on the left side, nods it to Batt, he advances and passes into the middle to Carroll, he lets loose a voley on target, keeper still touches the ball but its in. 2-0. Batt out very tired, earning a standing ovation, Warner in. Batt had an excellent game. Game ends and Chris Batt (10) receives yet another MOM. Birchall failed to convince me, but its his first game so i will give him at least two more games to show something good.

Fulham sack Coleman. Alan Shearer will retire at the end of this season. Paul Ince will also retire at the end of the season.

15/12 Game 16 home - (6-4 Fav) Carshalton 3 - 2 Havant & W (13-8)

Attendance: 1079

Wheather: Dry 5'C

Referee: Andy Garrett

Brown is back from suspension and replaces Payne in the midfield. Payne sits in the bench. Havant & W are 2nd in the league and a very hard game to win for us. They play a 4-4-2 game. 13" Birchall fails a one on one with the keeper, what a waste. Corner. Batt steps on the right side and crosses to the first post where Birchall flicks the ball in scoring is first of the season and our first of the game. 16" Havant striker shots and scores in the middle of the area and with no opposition. 28" long ball to the back of the defense from Brown, Batt is very fast to get away from the defender, dribbles past the keeper and scores for 2-1. Second half starts with a great counter attack by Havant and a ball hiting the bar from Havant striker. 55" new shot on our goal but Searle saves it. 62" Birchall receives a pass from Batt and hits the post. 77" its Cooper for Birchall, Payne for Batt and Carroll for Bihan. All players were very tired. 82" Hamsher fails an interception and Havant striker makes it 2-2. 86" Throw in by Hamsher to the area where Warner receives the ball, comes back to the edge of the area, turns over and fires a missile to make it 3-2. Game ends and Batt (10) goes yet again to pick another MOM for the game. Birchall improved alot and made a good game.

I am trying to buy Simek from Arsenal. He is on loan with us and is highly valued by all the staff. His value is 800k but he is listed at 170k. I put in a bid of 1k plus 100k after 50 goals and 45k in 24 months. Arsenal as answered that they want 1k plus 45k in 24 months, wich i accepted. Sounds like a bug or Arsenal really wants to get rid of him. Simek wants 1800 per month. I offer him 1700 a month plus 5% yearly wage rise, and 10% promotion wage rise.

Flanagan is back from injury but still not fit to play.

18/12 Game 17 away - (7-4) Weston-SM 1 - 3 Carshalton (5-4 Fav)

Attendance: 333

Wheather: Dry 8'C

Referee: Kevin Pike

Flanagan is back from injury but still not fit to play. I present the same team from last game except Woodards (unfit 72%) who is replaced by Carroll. Weston plays in 5-2-1-2 style. My 4-4-1-1 tactic doesn't work well when there are 3 central defenders, because my striker can't go between them. When the opposition plays with 4 at the back, my striker normally stays between both central defenders and escapes them down the middle on the counter attack.

Game starts with my team on the attack. 11" Corner by Bihan, defense intercepts back to Bihan, he crosses again to outside the area where Skelton picks it up, back to Burwood, shot coming in from 25 yards and Goal! Great shot from my central defender to cap a good move. 23" Birchall escapes down the middle, shots, great save, corner. 42" Birchall picks a ball in the center of our midfield, dribbles past two opponents, down the left flank, continues hes free run until the line and crosses to the far post where Carroll heads it down to goal! Nice move and great play from Birchall. 47" fast counter attack by Weston plyers and they score. 51" direct free kick in front of goal, Batt steps up, shots from 20 yards, GOAL! 3-1. 69" Carroll picks up a minor injury and is replaced by Payne. Cooper is also in for Birchall (tired). 78" Cooper crosses to the 6 yard box, Batt heads the ball into the bar. Game over and another precious victory for my team. We dominated this one with 24 shots, 10 on target, 14 off, against only 7 shots. 100% tacles won, 78% passes completed. Its not a surprise that Weston is at the bottom of the table. Chris Batt (10) once more picks the MOM.

Just noticed we are called the Robins (bird or Robin Wood??). We "continue to dazzle this season, defying the critics predictions of mid-table anonymoty" says the press. The fans are ecstatic and feel we can battle our way to promotion.

Bournemouth sack Sean O'Driscoll.

I terminate Woodards loan contract to save another 400 in wages.

21/12 Game 18 home - (13-8) Carshalton 6 - 1 Sutton Utd (6-4 Fav)

Attendance: 1446

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: Andy Martin

Flanagan is still not fit to play. Maybe next game. So Birchall gets another chance. No injurys, same eleven, lets face Sutton. Sutton Utd is going to play a standard 4-4-2. My scout tells me that their attack is very dangerous.

2" Batt discovers Birchall alone in the area, makes a great pass, Birchall shows good control and fires it down to the back of the net making it 1-0 to the Robins. Great start for our team. 12" Hamsher intercepts a pass, looks upfront and makes a 50 yards long pass, Birchall outpaces both defenders, speeds in the keepers direction, inside the 6 yard box, shots and scores the second of the game. 29" Batt receives a pass from Carroll in the midfield, starts the "turbo", dribles one, dribbles the second, shots from the edge of the area and scores. Fantastic play by Chris Batt. 36" Sutton defender Goncalves scores from 35 yards. 38" another individual effort from Batt and one more fantastic goal, puting the score line at 4-1. 66" free kick taken by Carroll to the edge of the area where Batt fires a half volley at goal, scoring his hat-trick. 68" its Birchall, Bihan and Batt out to rest, Cooper, Murdoch and Payne come in. Chris Batt receives a well deserved standing ovation, he was outstanding on the pitch today. 76" Sutton defender passes back to the keeper, Cooper runs in, the keeper passes to another defender, crutial interception by Cooper, he rouds the keeper shots and GOAL! its now 6-1!! What a game, ladies and gentlemens! And also a nice croud to see this wonderfull show. Chris Batt (10) for a change, picks the MOM. Simek (9), Birchall (9) and Carroll (10) played very well also.

In the press conference after the match i am still in the clouds over this result and the fact the we are 1st in the league with 2 points advantage and one game missing.

I try to sign young striker Matthew Platt but he refuses my contract offer and signs with Hitchin.

Dennis Wise is sacked from Millwall.

26/12 Game 19 away - (7-4) Maidenhead 0 - 2 Carshalton (5-4 Fav)

Attendance: 871

Wheather: Dry 12'C

Referee: Phil Sharp

Flanagan is now fully fitted and sits on the bench ready to come in. The rest of the team stays the same. Maidenhead is going to play a 5-3-2 system.

Game starts with Maidenhead on the atack, while my team is trying to explore the counter atack. 26" Carroll takes a yellow card for pulling shirts. 45" Hamsher leaves the ball on the left where Skelton picks it and runs forward, pass to Birchall, he is in the clear, shot and Goal! 1-0 near half time. 62" Maidenhead changes to a 4-3-3. 63" Flanagan, Payne and Murdoch come in replacing the tired Birchall, Carroll and Bihan. 69" Hamsher dispatches the ball to midfield where Flanagan pics it up, dribbles past the last defender, bores down on goal and scores. Fast counter attack by the Robins see them go 2-0 at Maidenhead home. Game over, and guess what? Chris Batt (8) picks another MOM! Great come back from Flanagan after 1 month of injury time. Burwood, Searle, Brown and Skelton (all with 8) played also very well. I don't know if it is the tactic, or the fact that i got lucky in my signings, but fact is we are 1st in league and performing very well on the pitch.

28/12 Game 20 home - (Evens Fav) Carshalton 1 - 0 Bognor Regis (9-4)

Attendance: 1355

Wheather: Dry 6'C

Referee: Keith Wilkinson

Only two days to rest the players is not enough by a long shot. Almost all players are at 90% or less. I am forced to use some fresher, less experienced players for this game. Wood (DL), Skelton (DMC), Simek (DC), Carroll (MC), Brown (MC) and Batt (AMC) are replaced by Cole-Bolt, Murdoch, Tozer, Gilder, Payne and Flanagan. Alot of changes due to unfit players and not enough time to make them fit.

Bognor is going to play a 5-3-2 formation against my 4-4-1-1 formation. The first half runs well, we created some chances but wasted them. Bihan and Payne got a yellow card. 67" Birchall runs all midfield from the left side to the right side, Gilder goes upfront to receive a well aimed pass from Birchall, runs to the 6 yard box and scores. 1-0 to the Robins. Game over with Burwood (7) picking the MOM.

Players at Bolton lose confidence in Sam Allardyce and he gets sacked by the board.

I sell Dale Marvell (18 years old MC) to AFC Wimbledon for 3k.

Badgers John Wark (47) will retire at the end of the season.

Peter Wood is down with a trainning injury, strained wrist, and is out for 1 week.

Tozer, Burwood and Brown will have their contracts expiring in six months but would not sign a new contract with the Robins.

Ryan Gigs is World Footballer of the Year and World Player of the Year and European Footballer of the Year. Geanluigi Buffon wins European Keeper of the Year, Mark Iuliano is Defender, Gigs wins Midfielder and Thierry Henry wins in Striker.

We lead the Conference South league table. The table now looks like this:

Dare i say we are almost in Conference? No! there are 42 games to be played in Conference South and we are in the middle of the season. If we could only maintain this form, then sure, we will win promotion, but there are to many games to be played yet, so lets be realistic. The 5 points adavantage are very importante, but no way we have the bird in our hand.

I am now on the market to try to get some more players since the transfer window is now open again. Lets see who wants to come to the Robins and has some talent to help us maintain our fantastic league position.

I will be back next month with more news and games. Next month we have our schedule full with 9 games in 29 days. This is heavy stuff, and i am afraid for some of my players that could get themselves very tired and unfit to play.

Bye, bye from War Memorial Sports Ground in Carshalton.

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

January, Season 2004/2005

The weather is very cold now, and in the morning, getting out of bed feels like a huge sacrifice. The players know that this will be one of the more difficult months for us. In 29 days, we will have to play 9 games, wich gets us playing one game every three days. I think that this kind of schedule is more fit to teams that play in the premiership, and have squads with 40 and 50 players. With a limited squad of 25 players, where quality is not abundant, 9 games in a month is truly a mighty test to our capabilities.

I meet with the boys and try to boost the moral, telling them that this is like playing in the upper leagues, and if we can make a good campaign this month, then we can for sure win promotion!! They have faith in me, and i have to put my faith in them.

Meanwhile i have a meeting with Steve Friend (only in name), our Chairman of the Board, where he tells me that i have to lower our clubs wage bill or else....

SF: Hi Santos, have a sit.

CS: Thank you Sir. You have called me here?

SF: Yes indeed. I wanted to tell you how happy we are about the current club performance.

CS: Thank you Sir, glad you liked it. The boys have been wondefull.

SF: But, the current wage bill is extremely high, and we are not a financial institution, so i want you to take serious steps to lower it.

CS: Sir, we are trying, but the players want more money and it has been very difficult to lower it even more.

SF: I don't want excuses. I want results!! Nice to have this chat with you. Have a good day.

CS: Good day Sir.

So, here you have it. I am in trouble. I have to lower the wage bill, even if that means i loose team quality. Dunno what i will do, but for now i will let things rest and worry about it later...

Last month was the best month so far in the financial combat front, where we obtained excelent results:

Income: 69,686

Expenses: 25,562

Profit/Loss: + 44,124

Balance: - 30,786

Wage budget: 13,500 per month

Current Wage: 17,636 per month

Only 4k above the wage budget, but the new contract signings this month will unbalance those figures again.

First day of the month, and first game... Go go Robins!

1/1 Game 21 home: Carshalton 2 vs 1 Hornchurch

Attendance: 2381

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: James Carr

Cold day but the the War Memorial ground is packed full of fans after the sucessfull campaign we made last month. News of our victories and excellent league position are spreading and todays gate numbers are proof enough.

Team linups:

Carshalton with a 4-4-1-1: Searle, Hamsher. Cole-Bolt, Simek and Burwood, Brown, Carroll, Bihan and Skelton, Batt and Flanagan. On the bench:Warner, Birchall, Tozer, Murdoch and Payne.

Hornchurch with a 4-4-2: Westhead, Mustafa, Stuart, West and Matthewes, Purser, Elam, Shanaham and Caskey, Shipp and Weatherstone. On the bench: Hill, Wormull, Clark, Sigere and McCarthy.

Hornchurch kicked off. Half time comes in with both teams playing mostly in midfield. 61" Shanaham plays a nice pass to Shipp and he scores the first of the game. I call some players right away to change things. Payne replaces Brown and Murdoch replaces Bihan. 67" Batt picks a yellow card for obstructing. 76" Hamsher holds Sigere and gets a yellow card. Hamsher full of himself, calls some names at the referee and its sent back home with a second yellow card. What a stupid reaction! 89" Batt played a lovely ball to Payne, he runs forward, looks up, finds Birchall clear of any defender, pass to Birchall, he shots and scores. Game is level now. 93" Batt escapes the defenders, runs into the penalty area and is tripped by Mustafa. It was a dubious decision (not to me). Batt steps up and scores! Emotion until the last minute in the War Memorial grounds, the croud is screaming their heads off... Game over. What a dramatic finish. Chris Batt (9) picks another MoM.

I call Hamsher up and warn him about picking to many yellow cards in a game. He feels i was unfair !!

Brown picks a groin strain and stops 2 weeks.

Great game, great croud, heart stoping game finishing.

3/1 Game 22 home: Carshalton 3 vs 1 Cambridge

Attendance: 1445

Wheather: Dry 6'C

Referee: Ian Harris

Brown injured, Hamsher suspended and Bihan unfit (57%). So i need to make some changes and Hartburn, Murdoch and Payne step up to replace them. Cambridge plays a 5-3-2. 9" Burwood gets a yellow card for tripping. 26" Skelton headed the ball upfield to Flanagan, he advances on the keeper and scores. 78" Cambridge striker hits a ball from some way out and scores. 1-1. 90" Batt with a ball forward to Flanagan, he dribles one defender, advances on the keeper and beats him for the 2-1. 92" Skelton finds Batt with a long ball, Batt dribbles one defender, shots and GOAL! 3-1 and game over. My players are trying to give me an heart attack, scoring when the game is almost over!!! Chris Batt (10) picks once more the MoM. Flanagan (10), Burwood (8), Skelton (8) and Carroll (8) also played very well.

8/1 Game 23 away: Lewe - 1 vs 1 Carshalton

Game over. Good result for us away from home to secure one precious point. Lewes goalkeeper, Ademola Bankhole (8) picks the MoM. Danny Carroll with a facial injury to stop 6 days.

Sunderland sacks Mick McCarthy. Willy Wordsworth takes charge at Harrogate Town.

11/1 Game 24 away: Grays - 2 vs 4 Carshalton

Attendance: 335

Referee: Kevin Pike

Burwood picks a sprained wrist in trainning and is out for one week. Tozer comes in to replace him. Wood is now fit so he repleces the weaker Cole-Bolt. Carroll, also injured, is replaced by Murdoch.

Grays with a 4-4-2 formation get the game started. 5" Batt takes the ball forward, superb pass to Flanagan, shots from same way out and scores. 8" fast counter attack, Flanagan advances with the ball, turns around the keeper, and scores the second. 9" Payne gets a yellow card for holding. 15" the Grays make it 1-2. 17" corner by Payne, Simek goes to the first floor and heads it to goal, scoring the third goal for the Robins. 20" Batt picks a loose ball, skips past last defender and finds himself clear with only the goalie to beat, and scores to make it 4 to the Robins, 1 to Grays. 64" Grays score to make it 2-4. 65" its Payne out, Warner in. 77" Murdoch is replaced by Henriques. 83" Flanagan is replaced with Birchall. Game over. We played 20 minutes to solve this game in our favor and then sit back and rested the other 70 minutes. Chris Batt (9) picks yet again, another MoM. Flanagan, Murdoch and Simek also played very well.

15/1 FA Trophy 3rd round away: Kendal - 1 vs 7 Carshalton

Attendance: 204

Wheather: Dry 8'C

Referee: Michael Ryan

We are the favorites in this game, but in Cup games you never know. Anyway, this is a "must win" type of game.

Wayne Cort, a 17 years old fast (16) right winger joins us from Hampton & Richmond for free plus a 35% sell on clause.

Brown and Carroll back from injury but still unfit to play. Wayne Cort ready for debut, sits on the bench. I use the same eleven from last game. Kendal uses an attacking 4-4-2. 28" Flanagan picks a yellow card for diving. 32" Murdoch with a great tackle wins the ball in our midfield, makes a long pass to the back of the defenders line, Flanagan runs alone and picks the ball, gets into the area, rounds the keeper and scores. It took 32 minutes to break Kendal resistance. 49" Kendal right winger escapes and scores a good effort. 51" double substitution, its Payne and Bihan out, Warner and Cort in. 52" Kendal goalkeeper takes a freekick just outside the area, it hits Flanagan and goes to the right side near the corner marker, Flanagan runs and picks the loose ball, speeds to the middle of the area, dribbles one defender, stops and protects the ball from the keeper and another defender, turns around and shots to the empty goal. 54" Flanagan plays a wonderfull ball to Batt, he skips past the challenge of the defender and shots scoring the third goal for the Robins. 56" Flanagan shots, the ball hits a defender but the keeper deflects the ball, Batt is first to the rebound and applies the finish touch. 3 goals in 4 minutes for the Robins. 60" Batt plays a good ball to Flanagan, he finds himself in the clear and beats the goallie scoring his hat-trick. 61" Flanagan is replaced by Birchall and receives a standing ovation. 67" goal by Birchall, but the referee called an offside. 81" Birchall plays a great ball to Batt, he goes forward unchallenged and hits the ball from 25 yards to score his hat-trick. 84" Batt picks a loose ball in defence and launchs the counter attack, long ball to Birchall, he shots from 20 yards out and scores. Scoreline is now 7-1 to the Robins. Game over with Flanagan (10) picking the MoM. Murdoch (10) and Batt (10) also played very well.

4k in prize money and here we go to the 4th round. We will meet Tamsworth away next month.

Gray boss Mark Stimson resigns. Peter Taylor takes charge at Millwall.

19/1 Game 25 away: Welling - 1 vs 0 Carshalton

Referee: Gary Mellor

Brown and Carroll are fully fited. Carroll will sit on the bench (Payne has been playing very well) and Brown will replace Murdoch. Burwood is still out with injury, but will be back soon. Tozer is filling in quite well.

Welling uses a 3-5-2 formation with a flat 5 at the middle. 5" Payne gets a yellow card for words with the referee. 29" Welling striker scores a header after a corner. 53" i try to change things a bit by bringing in Warner, Murdoch and Cort, to replace Payne, Bihan and Brown. Game over. We wasted some chances, but Welling defended the advantage prety well. Welling goalkeeper, Martin Brennan (9), takes the MoM. Our goalkeeper, Stuart Searle (8) was the best of the bunch.

Payne reached yellow card limit and will miss next game.

Burton Albion appoint John Rains as manager. Richard Dryden takes the manager sit at Sutton Utd.

22/1 Game 26 away: Weymouth - 2 vs 4 Carshalton

Attendance: 578

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: Andy Martin

Half of my team is in the lower 90% condition. Not many days to recuperate all the players.

Carroll in for the suspended Payne. Burwood, still not fully fit is in the bench for any emergency.

Weymouth shows up with a 5-3-2 atacking formation. Weymouth launch an assault on our fortress right from start. 7" Weymouth central midfielder Bradley Orr scores the first goal of the game. 11" Weymouth striker Matthew Cross picks an injury after colliding with Wood and is replaced. 21" Brown first and Hamsher after, tell some prety nice things to the referee and both pick a yellow card. 45" Batt sends the ball forward to Flanagan, he shots and scores. Half time. I bring Murdoch in to replace the tired Bihan. 49" Murdoch gets a yellow card for holding. 62" Weymouth Player/Manager striker Steve Claridge suffers an injury and is out of the game. 67" its Birchall and Cort in for Flanagan and Brown. 82" Birchall with the pass to Carroll, he gets free of the last defender, moves in on goal and scores. 87" Batt with a pass to the right side, where Birchall receives the ball, runs to the line and crosses to the edge of the area where Carroll unleashes a half volley and scores. Chris Batt picks another MoM. Birchall made the difference in the last minutes.

Bognor Regis sack Jack Pearce. Paul Hart gets the sack at Barnsley. Coventry sacks Peter Reid. West Ham sacks Terence Brown. Margate sacks Chris Kinnear. Roland Nilsson takes the sit at Sunderland.

Chris Batt, my star player picks a twisted knee injury in trainning and is out for 1 week

Margate hired Andy Llewellyn as their new manager.

26/1 Game 27 home: Carshalton - 3 vs 1 Margate

Attendance: 1249

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: David Unsworth

Chris Batt is out with injury, so i bring Payne in. Burwood is back in the center of my defense.

Margate shows up with 5-3-2 atacking formation. They also have a new coach and come from 6-0 victory over Hayes.

1" into the game and Skelton finds Flanagan alone in the area with a good pass and Flanagan scores the opening goal. 4" one of Margate's best players, the striker Che Stadhart, leaves the field injured. Stadhart scored 18 goals in 23 games, 7 assists and 2 MOM's. 23" Carroll centred the ball and Jermaine Brown powered a header at goal scoring the second of the game. 27" Searle with a very long goal kick finds Flanagan running alone on goal and he scores the third. 28" Payne with a yellow card for tripping. We go on a more defensive and slow system. 49" Margate is reduced to ten men. 71" Bihan, Carroll and Flanagan are replaced with Murdoch, Cort and Birchall. 75" Margate scores a goal. Game over. Gavin Skelton gets the MoM. Flanagan played very well.

My physio Matt Beer tells me that Simek (DC) and Wood (DL) are in need of a long rest.

We sign Marc Shackleton, 20 years old goalkeeper from Barnsley for free plus 45% future fee and Adrian Stone (SC). Shackleton will come in to backup Searle, and Borg my other keeper will go to the transfer list.

29/1 Game 28 home: Carshalton - 0 vs 1 Basingstoke

Attendance: 1399

Wheather: Dry 6'C

Referee: Ian Harris

Simek and Wood are going off to take some rest, Tozer and Cole-Bolt in to replace them. Basingstoke comes in with a 4-4-2 formation. Very uneventfull game, until the 75th minute when Basingstoke striker scores the first of the game. We cant make anything out of this game and i notice that my players are running into the 50% condition marker. To many games are starting to wear my best players out. Simek and Wood are the first casualties, but i am sure more will get tired prety soon.

John Hamsher takes a 1 mach ban after collecting 5 yellow cards.

Charlton sack Alan Curbishley. MK Dons sack Stuart Murdoch.

We sign Yohance Lewis, 17 years old left winger that shows some potential, for free plus 45% future fee and Tutu Henriques.

This was a very hard month with 9 games in 29 days. We are not a crack team with endless stamina and a deep squad, so we have most of our players tired or even very tired. Even with that, we managed to retain the first place in the league now with 4 points ahead of Newport Co. (our next game) and 7 points more then Hornchurch. We are 15 points away from the battle for promotion, and that leaves a nice feeling with us for the 14 games left to play in the league.

We continue our finacial recuperation and the future is looking brighter now.

This month we also signed some hopefull good prospects like Marc Shackleton (GK), Yohance Lewis (AML) and Wayne Cort (DMR) without spending any money and even manage to get rid of Tutu Henriques (MR), Adrian Stone (SC) and Dale Marvell (MC). With all player contracts signed except for Jermaine Brow (AM/F RC), a regular in my midfield, Lewis Tozer (DC), the backup for Simek and Burwood, and finally John Burwood (DC), a very hot prospect for the future that has been putting some good performances.

After 28 games played in the league, the table looks like this:

Nothing is yet decided in the english Conference South (ECS), but i think we secured at least a safe place in the league and at best a dream of promotion. Next month we have already 7 games scheduled with important battles for the league against Newport Co (2nd), Bishop's (8th) and Havant (6th) and an important game away for the FA Trophy 4th round.

Until next month, be happy and stay well...

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

Ty Lord Crumb. Since i am not English, the last part about the Bobbins(?) escaped me....

Bobins is what Sutton fans call Carshalton fans (The Robins). In return the Bobbins call Suttons Ground Gangrene Lane.

This one will be longer then ever, so be patiente

February, Season 2004/2005

I have to congratulate my boys. Real heroes that put up a mighty battle last month allowed us to secure the 1st place in the Conference South and even got us to the 4th round of the FA Cup.

Steve Friend stepped on my toes again about the monthly wage bill. Argh, why doesn't he enjoy the team's success and leaves me alone.

Last month was almost even with just a little profit:

Income: 38,120

Expenses: 34,814

Profit/Loss: + 3,306

Balance: - 30,799

Wage budget: 13,500 per month

Current Wage: 17,992 per month

Wages continue to drop and are now just a litle over 4k. Nic McDonnel is put on transfer list (less 352 in wages if i can sell him). With the arrival of young promising goalkeeper Marc Shackleton, Paul Borg (resistence is futile), 23 years old crap goalkeeper is transfer listed and a further 220 in wages can be saved.

Flanagan, Burwood and Batt are now valued at 90k each, followed by Murdoch with 55k, Skelton and Brown worth 35k. Birchall (on loan from Arsenal) is worth 925k and Simek (also on loan from Arsenal) is worth 850k.

For you people that love statistics, be happy, cause i compiled the next screens so you can check our players numbers.

Attendance: 975

Wheather: Gale 3'C

Referee: Alec Clyde

Hamsher suspended is replaced by Hartburn. Chris Batt is not yet fit to play but is back from injury. I bring Simek and Wood in for this important match, even if they are tired. I need the experience they provide. Cole-Bolt and Tozer are out. Payne is also out with an injury so i bring Murdoch in to replace him.

Team linups:

Newport Co. playing a 4-4-2 attack: Freestone, Morgan, Jones, Aherne-Evans and Phillips, Coates, Charles, Moralee and Davies. Wilson-Denis and O'Sullivan.

Carshalton playing a 4-4-1-1 counter: Searle, Wood, Hartburn, Burwood and Simek, Skelton, Murdoch, Carroll and Bihan, Brown and Flanagan.

Game starts and Newport comes up to the attack.

5" Wood pulls Moralee shirt and gets a yellow card.

10" Wilson-Dennis alone in front of my keeper Searle but puts it up the bar.

11" O'Sullivan recives a pass on the back of my defense line but misses the target with only my keeper to beat.

12" Simek fouls O'Sullivan right in front of goal, just a little outside the area. Shot off target.

14" Flanagan receives the ball in the opponents midfield from Searle's goal kick, holds the ball avoiding the defenders, looks up and singles out Carroll unmarked with a great pass, Carroll runs on goal shots but the keeper saves it.

24" Wilson-Denis passes to O'Sullivan's run, but he shots wide of goal.

26" Charles with a pass to O'Sullivan on the edge of the area, long shot coming in but just over the bar.

27" O'Sullivan alone in the area shots wide of target.

30" Charles on the right side with a long pass to O'Sullivan, he shots but Searle saves it.

40" Brown runs 30 yards with the ball, sends it to the center to Flanagan, but he shots wide of goal.

45" Carroll tackles twice and gets the ball up to Flanagan, he runs with it, dribbles Morgan, then Jones, stops, circles around Jones and Morgan, shot coming in from inside the area and GOAL. Great individual effort from Flanagan.

Half time.

51" O'Sullivan finally hits the back of the net. Burwood with a back pass, Searle picks the ball and tries to dribble O'Sullivan, he tackles Searle, gets the ball and scores from inside the 6 yard box. Huge error from Searle.

54" Cort in for Skelton (5).

70" Bihan and Flanagan tired go out, Warner and Birchall in.

87" Simek gets a yellow for tripping.

Game over

Nice game and a good result for us. Roger Freestone (8), Newport goalkeeper, receives the MoM. Great game from Brown, Carroll and Flanagan. Peter Wood and Franklin Simek are both very tired according to my physio. I will give them a 2 weeks rest. They better be ready after that.

In the international scene, the World Cup qual. group stage, and after 4 games, England leads Group 6 with 3 victories and one draw, Wales is second on the same group and N. Ireland is 5th also in group 6. Portugal leads in group 3 with 5 games and 5 victories.

Jack Pearce takes the empty manager sit at Basingstoke. Kit Symons, wales international announces his retirement at the age of 33.

5/2 Game FA Trophy 4th round away: Tamworth 2 vs 1 Carshalton

Attendance: 376

Wheather: Wet 8'C

Referee: Barry Knight

Simek and Wood on vacations, resting i hope, are replaced by Tozer and Cole-Bolt. Batt is back from injury and fully fit, replacing Murdoch.

Tamworth plays in a 5-3-2 formation.

Game starts

21" Tamworth central midfielder sends a screamer from more then 30 yards out to score the first goal of the game. Not good... Tamworth is dominating the Robins!

44" Tozer with a free kick in the midfield line to Flanagan at the edge of the area, he turns around and fires it to the top left corner scoring a nice goal.

Half Time

54" cross coming in to the inside of our area where Tamworth central midfielder shows up unmarked to score the second for our opponents.

64" its Murdoch in for Bihan (tired)

74" i have to replace Batt, my best player because he is very tired (51%). I bring Warner in. Maybe some fresh legs make the difference.

90" Tozer gets a yellow card for sliding hard.

Game Over

Darn, we were not up to the task. Defence looked very weak. Midfield was not covering as it should, and we failed the chances we had. 12 shots, 5 on target and 7 off, 1 goal, against 6 shots, 3 on and 3 off and 2 goals. We also failed the crutial passes with only 69%. We are out of the FA Trophy.

Colin Calderwood is sacked at Northampton. Paul Simpson is sacked at Carlisle United. Barnsley board hires Peter Reid. Paul Fairclough leaves Barnet to take the manager sit at Hull City.

9/2 Game 30 away: Redbridge 2 vs 7 Carshalton

Attendance: 517

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: Kevin Pike

Now that we are out of the Cup, its time to concentrate all efforts on the league and the promotion, that i now think its our main objective.

Morale is low after our defeat with Tamworth. For this game i maintain my confidence in the same eleven.

Redbridge plays in a 4-4-2 formation.

Game starts and we go on the offensive

11" Batt picks the ball in the middle goes forward, pass to Flanagan, with the back turned to goal turns around the defender and unleashes a strike to the top right corner from the edge of the area, scoring a nice goal. Our pride is hurt and Redbridge is going to suffer...

25" ops.. Great save by Searle but Redbridge scored on the rebound.

28" and we answer back. Corner from Bihan on the right side, header from Brown and goal. 1-2

34" counter attack from Redbridge and they score again. My defense without Simek looks prety shaky.

Half time, Brown picks a minor injury and i replace him with Payne.

47" Redbridge defender fouls Carroll in the six yard box, its a penalty. Hamsher steps up and scores.

56" Bihan takes a direct free kick, ball hits the wall, keeper touches it, but... its in! 2-4 to the Robins.

66" cross from Batt on the left, header from Flanagan inside the box for another goal. Sweet revenge.

70" long range effort from Payne to score a fantastic goal. Its now 6!

74" Murdoch and Gilder come in to replace Bihan and Batt. Standing ovation to Batt.

87" class act from Gilder, dribbles two opponents, put the ball in the area where Murdoch shots to score a great team goal. Both substitutes telling me i can count on them.

Game over

Great performance from my team and a nice boost in morale around here. Chris Batt (10) gets one more MoM. Flanagan (9) and Carroll (9) had a great night. Steve Friend our "dear" Chairman of the Board could not hide his delight over this great victory.

Sam Allardyce takes the sit at West Ham.

12/2 Game 31 home: Carshalton 3 vs 0 Hayes

Attendance: 1289

Wheather: Dry 6'C

Referee: Kevin Pike

We are back on our home ground for a nice and cold afternoon match against 19th place Hayes. Our team is in high spirits (almost all players with superb morale) after last mach overwhelming victory. Flanagan will sit on the bench this game to get some rest and Birchall will play in his place. The rest remains the same.

Hayes presents itself with a 4-4-2 atacking formation.

Game starts

1" Batt passes to the unmarked Birchall, he unleashes a shot at goal, keeper sabes but Bihan is there to score on the rebound. Our players are red hot!! Great start. Keep this up boys!

13" Birchall receives the ball, turns around and sends it towards Batt on the right side. Batt runs with the ball, gets clear of the last defender shots to the top left and scores the second.

44" throw in for Hayes. Batt heads the ball to Carroll, pass to the center to Birchall, he runs a little and fires a rocket at goal from 25 yards out and scores. Great goal.

Half time. With 3-0 i decided to rest Batt (my star player) and Bihan and bring in Gilder and Murdoch.

Half time

Second half is prety boring with some chances for my team, but we are playing slowly to try to rest the players for the coming matchs.

Game over. Danny Carroll (9) picks the MoM. Birchall, Batt and Searle also play very well.

Bognor Regis hires Danny Graham as manager. Richard Money takes charge at Coventry City. Steve Castle is now Northampton new manager. MK Dons appoint Milton Keynes as manager.

Martin Keown announces his retirement. Darren Anderton will retire at the end of the season.

19/2 Game 32 home: Carshalton 4 vs 0 Bishop's Stortford

Attendance: 1403

Wheather: Dry 4'C

Referee: Phil Sharp

Seven days rest for our team works wonders and we are back to full streng, with all players above 95% condition. Nice croud at the War Memorial grounds. Flanagan gets back on the team after resting last game on the bench. Birchall played very well, but Flanagan is better in my opinion. Simek and Wood are in the last days of vacations and will be back next game. I hope they have enjoyed themselves and are ready to put in some hard work.

Bishop's tactic is a defensive 5-3-2 that turns itself into a 3-5-2 in the attack.

Game starts

8" Skelton gets a yellow card for words.

41" Flanagan goes down the left flank and centers to the area, but the defence sends the ball back to Flanagan, he runs a little to the middle, fires a long range shot on goal and scores the first. That is hes 30th goal of the season, and what a season he has been having!

Half time. Murdoch comes in for Bihan (5).

55" sees my team exchanging the ball in midfield like pros. Carroll to Murdoch in the center, ball to Batt on the left, again to the middle to Murdoch, runs to the right, turns around and passes to the left to Batt, Batt looks up, finds Flanagan and passes it upfield to him. Flanagan collects the ball on the edge of the area and fires it to the top right corner of goal, scoring his second of the game. Its now 2-0.

72" Payne comes in for Skelton. Murdoch drops back to DMC and Payne goes to the middle.

81" Payne on defensive work picks a loose ball and dispatches it to midfiled where Batt picks it up. Batt runs with the ball towards the right side and passes into the middle on the back of the defenders where Flanagan picks it up, runs in on goal, enters the area and shots from the penalty mark to make hes hat-trick. Great vision form Batt, another good finish from Flanagan. Those two play havoc with our opponents defenses!!

86" Throw in from Cole-Bolt on the left, to the line where Batt picks it up, crosses to the six yard box where Flanagan heads it across the goal to score once more.

87" Flanagan with a minor injury is replaced by Birchall. Standing ovation for Flanagan and he deserves it fully. Even i come to the line to clap my hands and pat him in the back.

Game over.

Flanagan (10) picks the MoM, but both Batt (10) and Carroll (9) were also great this day.

Skelton reaches yellow card limit and is out of our next game. Flanagan picks a bruised rib and is out for 3 days. Steve Friend declares himself "extremely please with the result". Maybe he forgot about the wage bill...

Notts Co sack Gary Mills, Reading sack Steve Coppell and Welling sack Paul Parker. John Ward takes charge of Reading.

22/2 Game 33 away: Eatbourne 1 vs 1 Carshalton

Attendance: 496

Wheather: Dry 9'C

Referee: Phil Sharp

Eastbourne is last of the Conference South with only 12 points and already relegated. Because of this i decide to bring in some fresh blood and test new solutions. Searle (GK), Brown (MC), Carroll (MC), Flanagan (SC) and Skelton (DMC suspended) go out. Shackleton, Lewis, Cort, Cooper and Murdoch come in to replace them.

Eastbourne presents us with a standard 4-4-2.

Game start

20" Cooper gets a yellow card for diving

23" Tozer holds Eastbourne striker inside the area and takes a red card! Penalty. Eastbourne Scores. I keep 3 at the back in a 3-4-1-1 tactic puting the other defenders with arrows to the center.

Half time. I bring Brown in to replace Lewis (5) and Carroll to replace Murdoch (5). We can still turn this around.

61" Brown with a corner on the right. He plays the ball outside the area to Bihan, long shot coming in, lucky deflection and goal. The game is level now.

70" I get Cooper (6) out and bring Birchall in. Meanwhile Cort on the left flank picks a minor injury but is still able to play.

Game over.

Not a good result. Chris Batt picks the MoM. Burwood played alot being the lone central defender. At least now i have all my best players at 100%, and maybe they can hold their own till the end. Meanwhile Newport (2nd place) lost and even drawing we gain one more point advantage over them. Its now 5 points to 2nd, 10 to 3rd, 15 to 4th, 18 to 6th and 23 to 7th. Promotion is within our grasp...

I appeal against Tozer red card and issue a warning to Tozer. Wayne Cort picks twisted ankle and gets 2 weeks payed vacations.

Charlton Athletic hires Wolves manager Dave Jones. Wolves are now looking for a new manager. The FA tells me i didn't have any grouds for the appeal. Has anyone ever won any appeal??

26/2 Game 34 away: Havant & W 2 vs 6 Carshalton

Attendance: 1009

Wheather: Dry 9'C

Referee: Andy Martin

My team gets back to full force, with the following linup:

4-4-1-1: Searle, Hamsher, Wood, Simek and Burwood, Skelton, Brown, Bihan and Carroll, Batt and Flanagan.

Havant play an attacking 4-4-2.

Game start

16 seconds into the game and Flanagan scores! What a fast goal. Magical stuff from Flanagan. We got the game underway, Batt brought the ball forward, left to Carroll, he played upfield towards Flanagan, he showed the defender a clean set of heels, goes into the area, shots and scores!

12" Shot comes in from 30 yards by an Havant midfielder and goes to the back of the net. Outstanding goal. 1-1

17" goal kick from Searle, Skelton picks the ball and plays it right to Batt, he dribbles past one, and sends the ball upward to Flanagan, he runs, enters the area and unleashes a mighty blow towards goal, secoring his second of the game.

29" Havant on the counter attack, striker running free towards goal, Searle comes out of the 6 yard box to make a great save.

39" Batt plays a one-two with Carroll, goes on the left side, centers the ball to where Flanagan climbs above the defender and scores hes hat-trick.

42" ball in the middle with Skelton, pass to Bihan, first timer upwards to Flanagan, he takes two stepes and fires it up to score another goal.

Half time. This is the Flanagan's Show! I bring Murdoch in for Bihan (a little tired).

50" Batt picks the ball in our midfield, plays it up to Flanagan, he spots Carroll making a run on the left side and sends the ball his way, Carroll picks it up, enters the area shots, keeper saves but Batt is there to score on the rebound. Great counter attack goal.

56" Brown picks the ball and spends 2 minutes running around with it back and forward, right and left, and finnaly makes a nice long pass to Batt, that hits it first time towards goal scoring a nice one from 20 yards out. Its now 6-1 to us, time to bring in some subs.

57" Its Batt and Brown out, Gilder and Payne in.

67" Havant get one back. 2-6

70" and Havant supporters are leaving the stadium.

Game over

Chris Batt (10) picks another MoM (collectors edition). Flanagan (10) and Brown (9) played very well also.

Newport loses again, and promotion is getting closer...

Meanwhile Arsenal wins the League Cup final on penalties (6-5) after a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

St. Albans hire Gary Crosby as manager. Barnet hire Justin Edinburgh as manager.

Another month ends and sees us at the top of the table 8 points clear of second place and with only 8 games left to play. The boys have been underfull and deserve to be congratulated.

Next month we will have only 3 games to play, so we will take our time to get some rest to face the last month of competition with 5 games.

The English Conference South league table now looks like this:

Eastbourne is relegated for sure. Our promotion hangs by 9 points. We are having a great season, but in finacial terms we are back into deep red and next month will be worst with only 3 games. Friend is going to hang me!!

Next month i will bring you all the other league tables. If you want any more stats from my team, just ask for it.

Until next month, be well and enjoy life and FM 2005!

As promised last month, i give you all a look into the other English leagues, with data about how things are going for the teams. I included also the Portuguese league since i am Portuguese!

Arsenal is dominating the Premier. Arsene Wenger's team has been outplaying evry other team and lead with 10 advantage:

Charlton and Bolton already bought their tickets to the English Championship league. Talking about the English Championship, Micky Adams Leicester team is very close to promotion and only a big disaster can keep them from returning to the Premier league. Wolves and Burnley are also on target:

What? Its not that good. Been changing format since start... Very instable and the flow is broken in several places. Been reading better, by far, stories then this one. Maybe in next season i can get better. Anyway, i thank all of you for the opinions, because they give me streng to continue this story in season 2.

Thank you guys!!

A nice way of shortening the league tables

As you know the printing system in FM is out of comission, so i was getting very frustrated doing all the tables and such. I decided to take a shortcut until we have the printing system working. :-)

Cheers and thank you for the courage you gave me.

March, Season 2004/2005

This month we will play only 3 games, so it will be a quit one, where we hope to secure our league position and maybe offset the problem of the wage bill. The fans are starting to show up in our games in greater numbers and that is good for our debil finances.

A look at the financial number:

Income: 15,252

Expenses: 28,506

Profit/Loss: - 13,254

Balance: - 44,053

Wage budget: 13,500 per month

Current Wage: 17,992 per month

Transfer Budget: 1,872 (35%) <- Two players sold for 3k each

Its not under control. Not even close. I just hope Mr. Friend, our chairman, doesn't take steps to shut me down because of this. Here we go onto the first match.

5/3 Game 35 home: Carshalton 0 vs 1 Thurrock

Attendance: 1317

Wheather: Dry 13'C

Referee: Gary Faulkes

Great croud and prety nice weather for this game. All players are fit and no changes are made to the team from last match great victory.

Thurrock shows up with a 4-4-2 system.

Game starts

Thurrock went on the atack and we were hard pressed to maintain the null draw.

14" Flanagan shots wide of target in a nice counter attack. Our first shot on goal.

19" Brown takes a yellow card for words.

28" Simek holds an opponent and gets a yellow card.

Half time We are not playing well, but 0-0 is not so bad.

53" Bihan takes a yellow card for holding. When you're legs are not enough, just use your arms!

56" Thurrock scores in a well design play. 0-1 for Thurrock

73" Brown picks the second yellow card for tripping.

90" Birchall takes a yellow for words. We are not creating any chances.

Game over and a very bad start of our March campaign.

Brown is banned for one match and gets a warning from me. Brown feels the warning was harsh and gets unhappy but still willing to remain at the club. Meanwhile we try to renew Birchall loan contract, but Arsenal refuses.

In another game Newport Co draw with St. Albans at home, so our defeat was not that bad.

Gary Johnson gets the sack at Yeovil Town. York City chairman says bye bye to Chris Brass. Paul Parker takes charge at Grays Athletic.

Cambridge tries to buy 27 years old John Hamsher, my left defender, for 2k but of course i refuse.

12/3 Game 36 away: St. Albans 2 vs 0 Carshalton

Attendance: 961

Wheather: Dry 13'C

Referee: David Unsworth

Very important game for us, as we play 5th place St. Albans. Brown out due to suspension is replaced by Payne. Cooper sits in the bench in place of Birchall, who returned to Arsenal.

St. Albans with an attacking 4-4-2.

Game starts

Again we are hard pressed in defense. Second game that we start at the back.

36" Fast counter by St. Albans striker Robert Duffy, who scores the first to St. Albans.

45" Goal kick by Searle, St Albans midfield wins the ball, both strikers with a one-two to isolate Duffy that scores again for St. Albans. When we were thinking on getting to half time we get another one!

Half time. Players are showing some moral problems and are not able to take the game to the other half of the pitch.

53" Bihan takes a yellow.

61" Carroll takes a yellow. We are winning 2-0 in yellow cards.. to bad we are losing 2-0 in goals!

Game over. Bad game and performance for us, and 3 more points lost.

Newport and Hornchurch win their matches and are near our 1st position.

Joe Royle is sacked from Ipswich. Tony Adams is sacked by Wycombe chairman. Terry Yorath takes the sit at Notts County. Welling United hires Craig Edwards as manager. Kevin Ball is the new Carlisle manager.

I offer a mutual contract termination to Paul Borg (GK) and he agrees for 2k instead of 4k needed to release as free. We will save 220 in wage fees. I Offer Nic McDonnell to several clubs and receive an offer from Aylesbury for 6k that i accept, and i manage to offload Nic and save another 350 in wage fees, getting 2k in my transfer budget.

Burwood suffers a twisted knee and is out for at least 1 week. Now this is bad news!!

19/3 Game 37 home: Carshalton 5 vs 0 Welling

Attendance: 1272

Wheather: Dry 13'C

Referee: Andy Perlejewski

Morale is low around here after a draw and a defeat. I bring in Tozer to replace the injured Burwood, and Brown comes back to Paynes place. I give the players a talk about how close we are to make history for the club. The croud of fans still believes us and shows up in great numbers.

Welling (11th) is playing a 4-4-2 formation. They have a new manager and i only hope they also have a bad day. We need to win this game to recover some moral and maintain some advantage on the league. Welling is the right opponent for our last game of the month.

Game starts

6" Free kick about 25 yards from goal. Flanagan steps up, shot coming in to the left top corner and goal! Great start for us.

33" Searle picks the ball, looks up to see where our players are. He kicks the ball to Welling's midfield, ball hits the ground and goes up again, just above the Welling's goalkeeper on the edge of the area, Flanagan believes in the play, runs hard and its there to apply the finishing touch. Bizarre goal.

45" We are dominating the midfield with a nice short passing. Ball upwards to Batt, first timer to Flanagan, he turns around and passes again to Batt in the 6 yard box, Batt stops the ball and unleashes a shot to make it 3-0. I think Batt was offside, but i guess nobody saw it :-)

Half Time. Just the game we needed. The players attitude also improved and we are dominating this one.

53" Batt receives a long pass from Skelton and shots right away to score a 20 yards good effort. Its hes second of the game and our fourth.

54" Brown is injured and has to get off. Payne comes in to replace him. I also take the chance to bring Murdoch in to replace Bihan.

65" Batt picks the ball in our midfield and runs with it the the righ side. He puts up a cross from the right edge of the are to the other end where Payne heads it to goal to make it 5-0! Great game we are having.

Game over. Until the end we missed a couple more chances.

The game ended with Welling makin 0 (ZERO) shots against 13 of our own. This was the boost we needed and Welling was very cooperative by allowing us to cruise to victory.

Jermaine Brown picks a twisted ankle and gets 3 weeks vacations. He will be missed.

Cardiff sacks Lennie Lawrence.

No more games this month. Not a perfect played month, but we still hold 1st position and have already reached at least the playoffs. We now have 4 points advantage over Newport and 8 over Hornchurch. Only five games left to end the season.

Meanwhile, for the World Cup European Qualifying section, England in group 6 dispatched N. Ireland 3-0, and Wales did the same to Austria (3-1). In other matches, Iceland goes to Croatia and beat them (0-1) and Romania imposes a draw home with Holland (1-1). Ireland visited Israel and got a draw (0-0).

Chris Brass takes charge of Weycombe. Kevin Blackwell is going to manage Cardiff. Mick McCarthy takes the seat at Wolves.

In another round of the World Cup European Qualifying, Estonia beat Russia (1-0), Slovakia got a draw with Portugal (3-3), England trashed Azerbaijan (5-0), Wales got the better of Austria in Austria (0-1), N. Ireland lost in Poland (2-0) and Serbia stopped Spain with a draw (1-1).

The end of the month comes in, and the final and decisive league month starts, and here, all our hopes will get together to push our team to promotion. Can we make it? Will the players be up to the task?

So many questions in my mind as we prepare to meet the last month of competition, tired but with a sense of acomplishment. Our original target, mid table secured place, is more then done, but we now dream of playing next season in the National Conference.

The league table at the English Conference South for this month looks like this:

Margate continues to go up in the table, and is now only 5 points from 5th place and the access to the playoffs. With 15 points in play next month, Margate, tipped for promotion, can still get there. On the bottom, Eastbourne is history!

My team, Carshalton, still has 4 points over Newport and 17 points over 5th place. We are garanteed the playoffs no matter what. So promotion looms on the horizont not like a mirage but like the real thing.

Thank you to all of you who read this simple diary. Being my first attempt, i realise now many errors i did, and make here the promise that the next one (in a new thread soon) about Season 2005/06 at the Carshalton's helm, will be more interesting. I would also like to know what you people prefer... More stats and tables, less of that and more story, and so on.. Please let me know your opinions.

Until next month, be happy and play FM!

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, proud Carshalton Manager

Thank you Lord Crum. I think i got lucky with the players i got, like Bruwood, Batt and Flanagan. All free and all quite good. Although i have a serious cash flow problem, i wonder how negative the finances can go before they give me the sack.. just wondering !

April/June, Season 2004/2005

With only 3 matches last month, i had almost no chance of offsetting our debt. So instead of dropping, we had a small increase into the red!

Our finances now look like this:

Income: 20,051

Expenses: 31,105

Profit/Loss: - 11,054

Balance: - 55,107

Wage budget: 13,500 per month

Current Wage: 17,420 per month

Transfer Budget: 3,972 (35%) <- Two players sold for 3k each and one for 6k

This month i had to renew all my staff contracts. Burwood and Brown still don't want to sign new contracts and i am afraid i am going to loose them, especially Burwood. Tozer finaly signed a new contract. I am now 4k over our wage budget.

Here we go for the finishing line...

2/4 Game 38 away: Dorchester 0 vs 3 Carshalton

Attendance: 321

Wheather: Dry 22'C

Referee: Darren Spicer

Our first game has us go to the Avenue Stadium in Dorchester, to play the local team. Before the game i release a statement to the press telling that "i believe we are going to get promotion". I know its a little early but i am only trying to put my players into high morale for the last five games. The effect on the players is instantaneous and i get 5 players telling me they will do anything to get promotion.

The day was very fine, but the croud stayed at home. The teams show themselves with the following linups:

Dorchester with 3-2-2-1-2: Craig Bradshaw, Andy Walker, Alex Browne ©, Gary Middleton, Michael Walker and Anthony Griffin, Mark Robinson, Mark Hughes and Juan Ugarte, Matt Groves and David Laws.

Carshalton with a 4-4-1-1: John Hamsher, Peter Wood, Franklin Simek and John Burwood, Danny Carrol, Chris Payne, Neil Le Bihan © and Gavin Skelton, Chris Batt and Callum Flanagan.

Game starts with my team into full attack mode.

20" Batt gets a yellow card for words

26" Wood with a long pass to the middle where Batt collects the ball and looks up. He sees Flanagan running to the left side of the pitch and sends the ball in. Flanagan collects it, dribles Browne and runs to the corner marker, goes past Griffin, enters the area from the left side and centers the ball. The ball goes up in the air, and down into the goal, for a "total fluke". He meant to make a cross, but a goal is not bad also....

35" Dorchester players recreate with the ball in midfield until Robinson lets a pass to Law, he takes two steps and unleashes a mighty strike from 35 yards and bangs in the crossbar and goes out.

Half Time

46" Flanagan takes a yellow for yet another dive. Must speak to him about where the pools are.

55" Throw in by Wood to Payne, perfect sliding tackle by Dorchester's Hughes, Batt picks the loose ball in the midfield line, starts to run with it, Robinson is left behind, shot coming in from 35 yards and GOAL! And what a goal that was!!

71" Chris Payne injured is replaced by Murdoch.

78" Carrol with a nice sliding tackle in our midfield, loose ball to Murdoch, he plays a first timer upfield to Flanagan, he gets away from the defenders and runs alone on the keeper from about midfield. Flanagan runs, runs, runs, turns to the right side around the keeper, but when he is going to shot Browne shows up to make an "in extremis" tackle. The ball gets lost into the right side of the area, where Flanagan gets to pick it again, turns around and centers to the left side, just outside the 6 yard box where Carroll stops the ball in the chest, drops it down to hes right foot and unleashes a torpedo at the top right corner of the goal. What a strike from Carroll. And he started the play with an excellent tackle in our defense.

Game Over

Chris Batt (10) took yet another MoM and Danny Carroll (9) played very well also.

I can't keep quiet with so much joy after this excellent performance from my players. On the sad note, Payne gets a groin strain and stops for about 2 weeks.

First 3 points of the month are in our bag!

Martin Foyle gets sacked at Port Vale.

9/4 Game 39 away: Carshalton 3 vs 0 Weston-SM

Attendance: 1406

Wheather: Dry 10'C

Referee: Andy Martin

Payne with injury is replaced by Warner. Brown is out of the injury but still unfit (58%). We are playing one of the weakest teams in our league, but desperation can bring heroes to the surface, so we need to concentrate and beat them. The fans showed up in greater numbers then before, and the cheering is awfull loud. Me and my players can feel that they believe in us, trust in us and are 100% behind us! We can't let them down now!

Weston uses a 4-4-2 tactic.

Game Starts

10" Warner gets a yellow card for words. This guy is very temperamental

25" We are missing to many chances.

36" Indirect free kick in the middle of Weston midfield. Warner steps up and send the ball to the edge of the area where Batt receives it, turns around and shots for the first of the night!

Half Time comes in with 4 more goal chances wasted.

52" Corner by Warner, Batt climbs above a defender, heads the ball towards goal and scores the second of the night and hes second of the game. This kid is wonderfull.

58" There goes Flanagan diving again and finding a yellow card waiting for him. This boy never learns.

65" Murdoch comes in to replace the tired Bihan.

74" Wood intercepts the ball in defense and sends it to midfield where Murdoch collects it and passes back to Wood. He now plays the ball upfield where Flanagan wins the header with a defender and leaves the ball right in front of Batt. He picks it, runs with it, dribbles one defender and shots just as he was entering the area to make it 3-0 and a well deserved hat-trick.

Game Over and we did it again!

Off course, Chris Batt (10), got the MoM. Great game also from Simek (9) and Carroll (8). If we win our next game we can safely say the we won promotion!

Chelsea manager, José Mourinho his given an ultimatum by the board!! Chelsea is 8th in the Premiership. Liam Watson leaves Southport to accept a job at York City.

Gilder is injured in trainning with fractured ribs and a 1 month stop from active duty. Have to tell the boys to not play so rough in trainning, but with promotion one game away they are very excited.

16/4 Game 40 away: Sutton Utd 1 vs 3 Carshalton

Attendance: 428

Wheather: Dry 11'C

Referee: Trevor Massey

Jermaine Brown back into the first eleven, Warner in the bench and Gilder out of comission.

This is our first "Match Point" for this season. One win and we are into the Nationals. To bad the game is not at home.

Sutton with a 4-4-2 formation.

We launch ourselves on the attack, promotion is just behind the corner :-)

Game Starts

7" Skelton gets the first yellow of the game. It looked to harsh.

Half time The game is very quit and we are to nervous. Responsabilitie weights high on our shoulders. I give the players a talking and tell them to relax and just play the game.

64" Batt takes a fast throw in, on the left side to Flanagan inside the area. He turns around one defender and shots, keeper makes a great save but Carroll was the to take the rebound and aply the finishing touch.

68" Flanagan picks a loose ball in our midfield and starts a counter attack by running a full midfield to the line on the right side, crosses the ball back to the panalty marker where Bihan on the run shots with no chances for the keeper, making it 2-0 for us. Oh National Conference, you are so near...

81" Carroll in the midfield with a pass to Batt, he looks up and spots Flanagan on the run, long ball upfield to Flanagan, hi picks it, enters the area and shots for the 3-0! Its party time...

84" Fast counter attack by Sutton and they score on the break. We were to slow to close the gap.

89" Flanagan with another yellow for diving. The boy doesn't learn.

Game ends and...

Newport draws 1-1!!

WE WIN THE LEAGUE with two games left and WE WIN PROMOTION!! :-)

Its party time in the lockrooms as we sing:

"We are the champions -

We are the champions

No time for losers

'Cause we are the champions - of the conference -"

...the champagne flows freely down our throats, cloths and body.

We can now cruise our last two games with no pressure in our backs.

Meanwhile Chelsea sack Mourinho after a draw with Man Utd. Former England international Tony Adams takes the hot sit at Port Vale. George Burley exchanges Derby with Ipswich and is now their new manager.

23/4 Game 41 away: Bognor Regis 1 vs 2 Carshalton

Attendance: 331

Wheather: Dry 13'C

Referee: Andy Martin

Just noticed that Flanagan, Batt and Burwood are now worth 180k. Burwood still doesn't want to sign a new contract and i think he is lost for good. Its a huge blow for our next campaign in the coming new season.

Burwood is a 20 years old central defender with 20 heading, good positioning and jumping, above average tackling, composure and decisions. He is lacking in acceleration and pace, but that may come in later.

For this game i mantain my confidence in the same eleven. Nothing to loose now!

Bognor uses a 3-5-2 tactic.

Game Starts

12" Simek trips Bognor's striker and the referee points to the spot. Very dubious penalty. Skelton, Batt and Carroll all got a yellow card for words. Bognor's striker steps up and scores.

15" Long ball from Brown to Flanagan, he gets way ahead of the defenders, one on one with the keeper and a nice counter attack goal. Fast answer to Bognor's early goal.

Half Time

55" Simek gets a yellow for tripping.

76" Flanagan centers the ball on the left side, the ball hits a defender and goes straight to Batt's feet, he says "thank you" and shots to score our second of the game!

81" I bring Cooper, Murdoch and Warner to replace Flanagan, Bihan and Brown.

Game Ends

Batt (9) goes up to pick another MoM. Great game from Burwood, Carroll and Flanagan (all 8).

Colin Hendry sacked at Blackpool. Harry Redknapp is the new Chelsea manager.

I am approached by Blackpool with and offer to become their manager. Blackpool is going to be relegated from League one. I refuse the job, because my football life objective at the momment is to bring some glory to Carshalton.

30/4 Game 42 home: Carshalton 3 vs 1 Maidenhead

Attendance: 323

Wheather: Dry 14'C

Referee: Ian Harris

Its our consagration game at home, and a huge croud of ... 323 fans showed up. What thet hell! We just won the league and the fans don't show up?? Something is very wrong with this town's mentality.

Authors Note: I consider this not realistic. The croud should have come in numbers since this was THE DAY of consagration with our fans. The whole town should have come to see the game.

Anyway, we are going to party all night, with or without fans.

Payne replaces the injured Carroll.

Maidenhead with a 4-4-2 tactic.

Game starts

25" Clearance from Hamsher in our defense, Flanagan picks the loose ball just after midfield line and finds himself running alone into goal, he continues until he enters the area and shots for the first of the game. Nice and fast counter attack goal.

30" Maidenhead puts the game level again with a nice shot from 20 yards. 1-1

39" Flanagan with the center, Payne with the finish. 2-1

Half Time

91" Bihan plays a lovely ball to Flanagan, he was unmarked and shots to socre the third of the game, second of his account.

Game Ends

We made a wonderfull campaign this year, and we are hoping for another sucessfull one next year, but to know how we are going to fare, you will have to tune in into another thread where the story will follow up.

Clearly Burwood and Simek in defence, Carroll and Bihan in midfield and the pair Batt/Flanagan in the front (especially those two) were the main skeleton of my team. Searle, our goalkeeper was not bad, ending out really above the average.

In the end of the season our finances took a cash injection of 100k prize money for winning the league, and looked like this:

Income: 113,517

Expenses: 48,551

Profit/Loss: - 64,966

Balance: - 9,775

Wage budget: 14,000 per month

Current Wage: 17,236 per month

Transfer Budget: 3,972 (35%) <- Two players sold for 3k each and one for 6k

Not bad in the end. Just little above 3k in excess of our wage budget, no loans, and a negative cash flow of only 9k. Next season looks better....

This finishes the first chapter of the Carshalton story.

Thank you all for reading this and for your comments. It was my first experience writing something so long, and many errors are now detectable. Next story, continuation from this adventure, will follow shortly. This story was written while playing so there was no later editing and any thoughts about the format and flow. I would love to listen to your comments and suggestions, so send them in.

By the way, should i start a new thread for season 2 or continue it here?

PS: Anyone wants the tables for the other leagues?

See you all another day.

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, proud and happy Carshalton Manager.

Season 2005/06 - Carlos Santos - Carshalton Manager

After last year success commanding the troops at Carshalton, i went on vacations to Portugal, my homeland. Portugal is a sunny, easy going, fun country, where one can rest at easy. I also sent all my players for a well deserved vacations of at least one month, after last season excellent performance.

Meanwhile i received news that Chris Batt was voted by fans, the Player of the Year. Before going on vacations, i sent my 3 scouts around the country into a search for youngsters in need of a contract that had some quality, latent or developed.

I returned to England on the first of July to be confronted by my chairman Steve Friend:

SF: Welcome back Santos, i hope you rested well.

CS: Thank you sir, its good to be back to work.

SF: We are trying to get a new sponsor deal, and i want you to sign some big name so we can have some leverage in the negotiations. For that i will allow you a transfer budget of 4k.

CS: That is great news. (So much money :-( what a joke!)

SF: I also want you to be carefull with the wage budget. Last year your performance in this area was very bad.

CS: I will try my best Sir.

SF: This year i want us to fight bravely to retain our team at the Conference Nationals. A slip in this objective and i offer you a job in the docks, fishing ...

CS: I have full confidence in our players. After last year hard work they don't want to get back there so soon.

Our finances were in bad shape, but my main concern for this year was to get together a good bunch of youngsters and add some additional streng to our squad. I will worry with finances later, after i put together at least the main team plus some U-18 team.

After that i meet with my new Assistant Manager Gunnar Gerish. Gunnar is a 61 years old guy, that is very tehcnique oriented. Hes tactic knowledge will be a good asset to us.

CS: Hallo Herr Gunnar. Did we get any youngster from the academy?

GG: Guten morgen Mr. Santos. Die Umdrehung der Akademie didn't aus irgendeinem Knaben.

CS: Pardon??

GG: I am sorrry. It slipped my mind. No Herr Santos, no knabe frrrom the academy.

CS: I presume knabe is the same as youngster.. Nevermind. How are the players reacting to the start of the season and the pre-season trainning schemes?

GG: ...

CS: So?

GG: Suchen nach wörtern. All worrking harrd.

CS: Great, thank you Herr Gunnar.

After that enlightning conversation i head into my office to browse my scout's reports. As i sit i noticed a huge pile of paper on the right side of my desk. I pick some sheets and start browsing it. Loads and loads of scout reports for me to analyse. Oh well, lets get on with it.

After spending 2 full days reading thru that pile of paper, i went on a signing spree, getting as much youngsters as i could to sign for us. I needed to setup a U-18 team or else our future is compromised. I pick up the list and start sending proposals out of the door. The day after, the boys started to arrive at the War Memorial grounds for tests and for signing contracts:

Tom Upson, 19 years, GK - Great scout discovery. This boy is serious competition to Stuart Searle.

Inderjeet Aujla, 17 years, DC - Young central defender for our U-18 team

James Smith, 19 year, SW/DC - Backup player for the center of our defense

Anthony Warriner, 18 years, MC - Another player for our U-18 team that already shows good accelaration and passing.

Paul Parle, 17 years, AML - Young promising winger with good speed, pace and crossing. Also boasts a good flair (15).

David Beharall, 26 years, D LC - David played at the high level for 4 years at Newcastle. He brings experience and security to our defense. He is not a fast one, but with excellent heading and balance, coupled with good marking and tackling, he can play both at the left side, and in the center along with Burkwood.

Michael Bardle, 17 years, SW/D RC - Another promising player for our U-18 team.

Michael Blackwood, 25 years, F LC - Another experienced player with 3 years at Aston Villa, that will be backup to both Batt and Flanagan.

Michael Coghlan, 20 years, MC - Penalty specialist central midfielder to add some streng to our midfield.

Josh Dutton-Black, 17 years, AM RL - Versatil winger that can play on both sides of the field. Fast and with good pace will play for our U-18, but i will have my eyes on him.

Paul Edwards, 25 years, AM L - Good seasoon last year at Blackpool, with 26 games played, 4 assists and one MoM, that we got on the free transfer market. I am expecting some good things from him.

Matt Bloomer, 26 years, D RC - More then 100 games for Grimsby, Hull and Lincoln where he played last season, with 30 games, 1 goal and 2 assists. A good signing to put some pressure in our defenders.

Osei Sankofa, 20 years, D RC - Good prospect from Chalton schools. Will be a backup for our DC and DR positions.

Jon Parker, 23 years, D/S C - Strange player that plays both in defense and as striker. He is very strong and fast. Lets see if he can show some quality.

David Bampton, 22 years, DMC - We payed 2k to Tamworth (League Two) for this solid player. I hope he can secure a place in our midfiled.

Michael Fox, 19 years, F RLC - Promising backup player for our attack.

Andrew Ottley, 17 years, MC - One more youngster for our U-18 team. Shows already good speed and pace.

Danny Howe, 19 years, MC - Strong player and tipped by my scouts as a hot prospect.

Alistair John, 17 years, AM RL - Another U-18 player with huge speed and great flair.

Andrew Wills, 19 years, GK - Backup keeper, probably 3rd keeper at the main team.

Scott Gardner, 17 years, DC - Good prospect for the future to our U-18 team.

Levi Porter, 18 years, AM RC - Another good prospect for our U-18 team with already alot of pace and speed.

Ashley Stott, 18 years, SC - This guy has 18 finishing, speed and pace, and decent heading. Will compete with Flanagan for the first team striker.

You may say i am crazy to try to sign so many players, but with a squad of 20 or so odd players and no U-18 team (also no youngsters from the club), i had to do something like this. I already know that i am in deep sh***** to cover for the wage bill, but i have a plan.. or at least i think i have.

From last year season we got the same players:

Goalkeepers

Stuart Searle, 26 years, GK - In its 4th season at Carshalton he played a major role last season to get us to the Nationals.

Marc Shackleton, 21 years, GK - Good backup with some promising stats.

I will get one more keeper to maintain a nice competition between them. Only hope that Searle is up to the Conference National task.

Defenders

Colin Hartburn, 20 years, DR - Young backup player for the right side.

Aaron Cole-Bolt, 20 years, DL - In my opinion, he is a crap defender that i will try to get rid off and bring in some replacement.

John Burwood, 20 years, DC - One of our star players and very promising. Unbeatable in the air, he lacks a little speed and pace, but was a major piece in last year promotion.

Lewis Tozer, 20 years, DC - Last years backup for Simek and Burwood, still needs a couple more years to show some value. Will be a backup again this year.

Peter Wood, 31 years, D/M L - In its 5th season at Carshalton, this experienced player gives our defense the experience that Burwood and Tozer miss.

John Hamsher, 27 years, D/M R - Another experient player and a penalty specialist. Can run all day around the field with a fitness few can match. Several clubs want to sign him, so i don't expect him to last to much in our team this season.

Our defense is not bad, but it needs more options to cover for any injury, more in the center then anywhere else.

Midfielders

Wayne Cort, 18 years, DMR - Fast winger the requested to be put on the transfer list. Will not count with him.

Tim Murdoch, 20 years, DMC - Good passing and tacling coupled with great determination, make up for hes lack of speed and pace. Some creativity also helps him. He is mainly a backup player.

Gavin skelton, 25 years, MC - Free kick specialist with huge team work and creative ability. He plays mainly as the last guy in front our defense.

Danny Carrol, 29 years, M RC - Experience is hes trade mark. Brave, with great concentration and determination, can run all day and hes teamwork and work rate are unmatched.

Adam Gillespie, 17 years, ML - Will play for our U-18 this year and i expect him to be a good player in a couple of years.

Neil Le Bihan, 29 years, M LC - With more then 150 games in lower leagues, he brings more experience to our excellent midfield.

Phillip Gilder, 17 years, AM RL - Another promising youngster that will play in our U-18 team.

Yohance Lewis, 18 years, AM L - Another left winger in the team. This one will go to our U-18, and will wait there for an opportunity.

Matty Warner, 20 years, AM L - Promising player that has an injury for the next 4 months.

Chris Batt, 24 years, AM LC - Our shinning star player (injured for two weeks). Besides being MoM last year then any other player, and also winning the Fans Player of the Year, this 24 years star is fast, creative and has a huge work rate.

Chris Payne, 17 years, AM LC - Promising youngster in the line of Chris Batt. He will play for our U-18 team this year, and will get some chances at the main team for sure.

Jermaine Brown, 22 years, AM/F RC - Nice all around player that playes well both in midfield and forward.

Our strong point by far. Here we have experience, speed, young promises, old veterans. For this area i will get mainly youngsters.

Strikers

Kevin Cooper, 30 years, SC - Last years backup player, still has some fire in him, and will continue hes role this year.

Callum Flanagan, 19 years, SC - Prolific scorer, fast and with excellent heading capabilities. Our main striker again for this season.

We are not weak in attack, but we lack options and a real backup for our star striker.

Burkwood, Batt and Flanagan are our team's skeleton. They are the stars we can afford to have, and i only hope we can secure them against the other clubs bids for them.

With the new signings we now have 3 good goalkeepers, a good bunch of defenders, solid midfield and fast attack. I hope this is enough to secure us a mid-table position.

Gunnar had already scheduled some frendlies. We were set to tour the Wales country side, playing against Aberystwyth (wonder how to spell that), Barry, Cwmbran and Llanelli. But first we had to face AFC Winbledon in our home. This is the presentation match for the new season.

Thu, 21 July 2005

Its presentation day with a huge croud of... 87 fans :-( I think the faith in our team has dropped a little. In a sunny day with 22'C, we go out to win with easy.

Carshalton 2 vs 0 AFC Wimbledon

Flanagan (27, 39)

After this opening frendly we got on the Wales tour.

The press put us as Relegation Battlers with 25-1 odds. Tipped for promotion are Carlisle, Barnet, Accrington and Exeter.

Meanwhile Arsenal beat Leicester in the English Community Shield 3-0. First title of the season goes to the Gunners...

We then go on into our Wales tour beating Aberystwyth (3-1), Barry (3-1), Cwmbran (2-1) and Llanelli (3-1). Our last frendly is played against our U-18 team and we beet them 3-0. To many wins, and i am wondering if we really did any sigficant test. So much wins give good indication about our team, but the quality of the opponents tells me not everything is roses!

After those frendly, comes the first real important match away against Morecambe.

Morecambe vs Carshalton

Attendance: 1368

Wheather: Dry 23'C

Referee: Joe Taylor

We travel to the Christie Park in Morecambe to face the local team in our first match of the season. For this game i bet on last year players and i field the following team:

Searle, Hamsher, Wood, Burkwood and Sankofa, Carrol, Brown, Murdoch, Bampton and Bihan, Flanagan.

As you may noticed i have gone from a defensive 4-4-1-1 to an even more defensive 4-1-4-1.

The players are very nervous and not really confident in our performance. An early (2") goal by Morecambe is a prelude to disgrace. Morecambe scored again (31") but we managed to come back (34") right after with a goal from Flanagan, ending the first half on a 2-1 flattering result tu us. We aren't creating any chances and have to withstand heavy pressure from Morecambe. Second half see us playing a little better, but we suffer another goal (65") and answer right back by Brown (68"). Until the end we are not abble to turn things around.

Morecambe 3 vs 2 Carshalton

Flanagan (34"), Brown (68")

Carshalton vs Worksop

Attendance: 433

Wheather: Dry 12'C

Referee: Peter Hardy

We return home with our morale a little low. Our next challenge come from Worksop. Again we started too nervous and received an early goal (1"). I don't stop screaming to the players to hold their positions and to pass the ball around. Finally after much fight and a well deserved measure of luck, we manage to get a draw with a dramatic late equalizer by.. who else? Flanagan!!. uff... With so much screaming i have lost my voice. I have seven days to find it again!

Carshalton 1 vs 1 Worksop

Flanagan (90")

Dag & Red vs Carshalton

Attendance: 1174

Wheather: Dry 14'C

Referee: Peter Hardy

This time we go to the Glyn Hopkin Stadium, at Dagenham (if you can call that a stadium), to face Dagenham and Redbridge. For the third time i present exactly the same team. Call me stuborm, a guy with fixed ideas, but my team had played well last season with almost those eleven, so i had to trust in them. Maybe we were facing much better teams.

For the first time this season we are first to score (13") by Flanagan. Lady luck smiled at us and Dag & Red were playing with 10 with only 31" into the game. In the second half the Flanagan show continue with two more goals (69" and 85") and a final strike by Batt (87"). The second red card of the game for Dag & Red (82") also helped to make the score so high for us. This was the morale boost we needed. On the way home players were chanting and patting each other on the back after such a nice game.

Dag & Red 0 vs 4 Carshalton

Callum Flanagan (13", 69", 90"), Chris Batt (87")

After this last result i finally decided to change things a little. Morale was high again and it was time for changes. So i put Searle away to be replaced by the new guy Tom Upson. In the center of defense i decided to try James Smith in the place of Sankofa. Paul Edwards (AML) replaces Bihan on the left wing. Some time had passed and by trainning together most players must know each other by now.

After this great result we got two draws (0-0) with Gravesend (H) and Halifax (A) and then trashed Woking at home to a croud of 1200 fans by 4-0 (Flanagan with another Hat-Trick). From 11 goals scored, Flanagan is responsible for 8. I don't even want to think what will happen if Flanagan picks any injury.

After trashing Woking, we go on, into a victory road, beating Leigh RMI (2-1), York (2-1) and Burton (3-0). Not big teams but important victories to secure us some points. From those 7 goals, 5 more are added to Flanagan's account. But our luck wouldn't last long...

Carshalton vs Rochdale

Attendance: 2222

Wheather: Dry 8'C

Referee: Peter Hardy

Fans are behind us 100%, and showed up today in great numbers (2200) to see us face promotion contenders Rochdale.

In the transfer market we managed to loan Sebastian Larsson (20 years, Sweden, MC) from Arsenal.

This morning before the game i had a visit from my friend Friend, our dear and beloved chairman. I knew already what he was up to, but this time i had a good answer for him:

SF: Good morning Mr Santos.

CS: Good morning Sir.

SF: I just noticed something that got me very worried. Our wage bill is now around 34k, and that is just away out of proportion. I want an explanation. Better, i want a solution!!

CS: Err.. its a little high, yes. But...

SF: A little high? A LITTLE HIGH? It was supposed to be around 14k! Its more then double its original intended size.

CS: But Sir, i have a solution!

SF: I bet you have.

CS: Yes Sir. You see, all our signings were made on the free market, and that means we can capitalize our investments by selling a few players and in that way compensate for this extra large size wage bill. And also, Sir, you wanted to impress the investors and sponsors and in this way we have two teams playing. Seniors and Under 18.

SF: Meanwhile we are running out of cash. What are we suppose to use to pay all your players? stones? beans?

CS: I see the problem Sir, and i promise i will get some cash in the clubs coffers by the end of this month by selling a couple of our most valued players.

SF: See it done then. And don't dare disappoint me! Have a nice day Mr Santos.

CS: Nice day to you to Sir...

Yikes! I need to sell some players to offset the huge dent that our wage bill is doing in the club bank account. I go right way and look at the players list and any inquires we had for them. First target was our righ defender Hamsher. Our penalty specialist is on Swindow and Stockport shortlist. I send a offer to them for him right away. Another player already shortlisted by some major clubs is Chris Batt, but this one is to important to us. As Bihan requested to be transfer listed i decide to offer him also to clubs. Since he wants to get out, i will make it fast! I value Hamsher at 250k and Bihan at 90k. That will be enough to offset our debt of 160k and get a coupled of months rest until perhaps January.

On to the game. We started this one on the right foot with an early goal (18") by Burwood after a corner. Second half and after another corner Burwood makes it 2-0 (62"). Two late goals by Rochdale (82" and 87") leave a bitter taste in my mouth. We were so close to bag this one for us, and allowed two late goals.

Carshalton 2 vs 2 Rochdale

John Burwood (18", 62")

After this game we are now 5th with 19 points. Accrington leads with 22, followed by Morecambe, Rochdale and Hereford. Carlisle follows our team one point behind.

I receive two offers for Hamsher, each at 250k, but none for Bihan. I decided to lower Bihan value to 50k and try again. Stockport ended up with Hamsher, but when we got there to collect, they didn't had the cash to pay for him, so he is back at Carshalton, and the bank account is lower and lower....

The two last games of October saw us beating away Canvey Island 4-3 (Batt 36", Flanagan 45" and 62", Alistair John 81"), and then home with Dag & Red we beat them 3-1 (Burwood 4", Paul Edwards 74" and 85") with a croud of 4450 fans, that also saw Flanagan sent off (33") and both Chris Batt and Jermaine Brown injured. Things are looking dark for the next couple of games.

Anyway, the first games went more then well. I am so happy our players were up to the task. Morale is very high around here, and the points we already secured are precious for the later battles.

This is but a resume of the first months of play in the Conference National after last years success. The diary will continue now in almost the same format of last season with monthly updates. Next month i will cruise our finances and will get a little more detail about the games, tables and other info about sacks for example.

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager

I've just the read whole thing so far icon14.gif.

Congratulations on thr promotion and the Story of the week award. Both very well deserved.

There were a few things I really liked.

Quality comment icon14.gif. You've got to be ruthless icon_wink.gif.

I also liked the depth of the story. Gicing details on who you are scouting is very detailed and helps us know your plans.

The cut down league tables are a good idea, but must be a real pain with the no printing malarkey and I also liked the way you arranged the tactics post. Nice touch icon14.gif.

As for your English, it's better than some of the English on here.

On the down side, I ran up against Neil Le Bihan in my old Barnet story. He dived to get a penalty and also got my keeper sent off icon_mad.gif. It brought to an end my longest ever unbeaten sequence in Championship Manager. He is **** and you should get rid of him icon_eek.gif.

Thank you Jimbo. I have been reading some stories made by you, and i must say they are quite good IMO.

Eheheheh! He was quite good running the midfield, but now in Conference National, i noticed i have better options, and i need the cash!

PS: I the other message you posted is not for me right?

November, Season 2005/2006

In the league we are doing better then even my expectations were at the beginning of the season. But our finances are in a ugly state:

Income: 67,855

Expenses: 56,882

Profit/Loss: + 10,973

Balance: - 143,776

Wage budget: 14,000 per month

Current Wage: 34,332 per month

Transfer Budget: 2,462 (35%)

Sponsor Deal: 2 years 10k per season ends 2005

By the end of the year we should get a new sponsor deal, and that will bring some needed cash into the bank account. All my free signings are now being reflected in the huge wage bill we have to support. The only good news in this is the Bihan just got a proposal of 40k that i accepted, and that will bring some cash into our accounts. Also i think Hamsher will go this month for at least 200k.

My profile now looks like this:

Pressure: 9

Ambition: 10

Loyalty: 12

Media: 20

Professionalism: 13

Temperament: 9

Reputation: Local

Meanwhile we got Hereford in the English FA Cup First Round at home. This means more cash.

One thing i noticed is that several of my free transfer signings are real "prima-donas". Osei Sankofa is unhappy at being substituted, Michael Fox, Paul Parle and Ashley Stott want further clarification of their roles, Wayne Cort requested to be put on transfer list. Also i face another problem with the arrival of the end of 2005, and that is the renewal of more the 15 contracts.

But, beside all those problems, moral is high, our league position is confortable and our players are performing very well.

Carshalton vs Exeter

Attendance: 2303

Wheather: Dry 9'C

Referee: Andy Perlejewski

With my two star players, Chris Batt (injury) and Callum Flanagan (suspension), out of the game, our task to beat Exeter (our next game) just got more difficult. A nice crowd got together to see us. Fans are starting to get behind our team once again, and that for me means also more cash coming in.

Both team linups:

Carshalton with a 4-1-4-1: Upson, Hamsher, Beharall, Smith and Burwood, Murdoch, Skelton, Edwards, Carroll and Larsson, Stott.

Exeter with a 4-4-2: Bittner, O'Sullivan, Moxey, Todd and Santos Gaia, Clay, Afful, Oatway and Sheldon, Holmes and Hunt.

Game Starts with Exeter full on the attack.

16" Holmes fires a shot and hits the bar.

20" Hamsher gets a yellow for holding.

21" Beherall with a long pass down the left to Edwards, he runs with the ball, turns to goal, enters the area, shot coming in, great save by Bittner. Corner.

28" Sheldon gets a loose ball outside our area and shots, Upson saves it to corner.

Half time. I have to take Stott out with a minor injury and i bring Michael Fox in.

74" Bihan comes in to replace the tired Larsson and Skelton performing a little low is replaced by Alistair John.

Game over. Very dull second half.

With both teams only with 6 shots the game was pretty boring.

Matt Beer (our Physio) told me that Tom Upson, my new goalkeeper got a sprained wrist and faces a one week injury.

Carshalton 0 vs 0 Exeter

MoM: Tom Upson (8)

6 November 2005

Northwich sacks Steve Burr. Burscough sack Frank Parr.

Just installed the English Superpack and some manager face pack. Game just turned more realistic with almost all my players now having faces.

7 November 2005

Peter Wood twisted a knee today in trainning. Gunnar (Ast Man) informed me that Ashley Stott was absent from trainning today. I sent him a warning about unprofessional behavior. (was tempted to give him 2 weeks fine ... would save some cash!).

Arséne Wenger was bashed today by Fancesc Fabregas that stated he wants regular first team football, or else...

8 November 2005

Carlisle vs Carshalton

Attendance: 2303

Wheather: Dry 3'C

Referee: Andy Hogg

Cold day at the Brunton Park in Carlisle. Good news for us, as Chris Batt returns from injury. I take out Murdoch, push Skelton from MR to DMC, Carroll slides from MC to MR and Batt takes the more attacking MC role. Now i only need an attacker like Flanagan (or close) to score some goals. Upson still injured from last game is replaced by last years goalkeeper Stuart Searle.

Carlisle presents us with a very attacking 4-4-2 that turns into a 4-2-4 on attack.

Game Starts.

6" Edwards takes a yellow card for tripping.

25" Edwards comes into the left side of the area and dribbles the last defender, putting an excellent cross to Stott into the 6 yard box. Stott shot to score... 3 rugby points! Ball hits one cloud :-(

33" Edwards picks the ball in our left flank and turns on the turbo, running along the line and dribbling a midfielder, continues to run and enters the area from the left side after offering a set of wheels to a defender, looks up and crosses long to the right side of the area where Carroll has time to stop the ball and make a crossed shot at goal scoring our first of the game.

Half Time. I take Stott out (missing to many chances) and i bring Jon Parker in. Jon is a versatile player that can plays both as central defender and striker. Although his stats are mostly crap, lets see how he turns out.

64" Smith misses an interception inside the area and the Carlisle striker takes the offer to score the equalizer.

69" Long cross coming into our area from the left side to the right where Carlisle winger with no one marking him shots to score. 2-1 for Carlisle.

70" Larsson and Edwards out, Murdoch and John in. I have to make changes. maybe some fresh legs will do the trick.

89" Corner by Batt to the six yard box where Carroll stpes up on the first floor to head the ball into the goal! Great header and a dramatic equalizer.

91" Long shot from 35 yards from Carlisle midfielder that hits the bar.

92" Direct free kick in our area line. Shot comes in, deflection... just over the bar...

Game Over. The last minutes of the game were... heart breaking and breath taken. they hit us with everything but the kitchen sink. It was a close call.

This is our 13th game unbeaten and a new record at that. We are now 4th place in the league.

Carlisle 2 vs 2 Carshalton

Goals: Carroll (33", 89")

MoM: Chris Batt (9)

11 November 2005

Hamsher out with a trainning injury. Beer told me he has a calf strain and will be sidelined two weeks. Gunnar calls me and tells me that Bihan was absent from trainning today. I sent Bihan a warning for unprofessional behavior. Warner resumes full trainning after a long term injury.

12 November 2005

Carshalton vs Hereford

FA Cup 1st round

Attendance: 2007

Wheather: Dry 9'C

Referee: Darren Parker

Bihan accepts Boston Utd's contract and he is gone for 40k. Hurray, now i only need to sell another player for about 150k to have my finances out of the red.

Upson, Wood, Hamsher and Brown all with injurys. Good news is the return from suspension from Flanagan. Sankofa replaces Hamsher on our defense's right side. Flanagan sits in the bench because i want to test another striker, and the since the games is in teory easy, i will give a chance to Michael Fox.

Heresford with a normal 4-4-2

Game starts

11" Batt intercepts a ball in the left side of midfield, passes fast to the midlle to Skelton, he turns and sends the ball to the line at the area where Fox controls it, two steps forward and unleashes a shot to the top right corner of goal scoring our first of the afternoon.

27" Second yellow card to Hereford right defender. Things just got easier.

Half time. Even playing against 10 men we are not making enough chances.

65" time for some changes. Flanagan returns to the team to replace Fox. Fox had a good game and even got on the score sheet, but he is tired and i need more fire power. Larsson is also replaced by John. Carroll drifts to the middle and John will play as right winger.

75" Batt takes the corner, big confusion in the area, and Heresford defender heads the ball in for an own goal. Carroll was there to put the pressure.

78" Carroll gets a yellow card for tripping

89" Edwards gets a yellow card for holding

Game over.

Not a good game for us. Even playing against only 10 men in the second half we were not abble to score more goals. Edwards reaches yellow card limit and gets a 1 game suspension. We get a further 12k in our coffers as prize money. Thats 52k plus gate receipts in one day. Not bad, and we now have 16k for transfer budget!! I think i am going to search for a striker that can play as Flanagan backup, with good finishing and speed.

We go to FA Cup 2nd round.

Carshalton 2 vs 0 Heresford

Goals: Michael Fox (11"), Danny Williams (75" o.g.)

MoM: Chris Batt (9)

14 November 2005

FA Cup 2nd round draw has us receiving English League One Doncaster. They are 9th in League One. This should bring a good gate receipt, even if we don't get through to the next round.

19 November 2005

Carshalton vs Forest Green

Attendance: 1869

Wheather: Dry 14'C

Referee: Steve Curtis

Edwards (suspended) is replaced by Warner on the left side. Flanagan is finally in the team and Fox sits on the bench. Brown is out of the injury and also sits in the bench. Wood also out of injury is not fit to play yet. My team is getting to full force once again. Goalkeeper Tom Upson returns from injury to replace Searle.

Game starts.

30" Larsson gets a yellow card for pushing.

Half time. Very unenventfull first half with only a couple of chances. I replace Carroll (5) with Brown.

56" Larsson with the cross from the right, Flanagan with a first timer, but the ball hits the post and goes out. Great chance.

64" Larsson tired comes out to be replaced by John.

67" Great mistake in defense. Beherall with a back pass to Burwood, he tried to pass back to Beherall but the Forest Green striker intercepted the ball and shot to score. We can't make this kind of mistakes. I switch to a more attacking mentality by asking my players to up the tempo, get the defense line up and play more narrow.

76" Goal kick from Upson. Ball comes in behind the defense where Batt shows up at full speed, bores down on the goalkeeper, goes past him and shots inside the 6 yard box to score the equalizer.

90" Sankofa with a long pass down the right where John runs up and picks it, goes to the line and crosses to the 6 yard box where Flanagan on the run shots, but the keeper saves it. Great chance we missed.

Game over.

Another draw, but this one tastes like a defeat. We were the better team on the field and a silly mistake costed us one goal.

Carshalton 1 vs 1 Forest Green

Goals: Chris Batt (76")

MoM: Dean Willians (Forest Green goalkeeper) (8)

20 November 2005

Leeds finally sack Mark McGhee after several ultimatums and a draw with Wigan (2-2). Leeds sits in 12th place in the Championship. Southhampton sack Steve Wigley due to supporter pressure. Kevin Dillon takes the Northwich manager seat.

26 November 2005

Accrington vs Carshalton

Attendance: 4332

Wheather: Dry 14'C

Referee: Gary Stott

This is a serious and difficult match. We are playing 1st place in Conference National. They have the best defense with only 10 goals suffered in 14 games and the second best attack with 27 goals. I bring Brown in to take control of our right side, and also Edwards to do the left one. Warner and Carroll sit in the bench.

Accrington will play a flat 3-5-2 formation.

Game starts

10" Long ball from Beherall, in our defense, down the left side to the edge of the area where Flanagan shows up in at Mach 3 to take control. He turns inside the are and runs on goal striking it from the edge of the six yard box to make it 1 up for us. Great counter attack goal. This is the 50th goal from Flanagan for Carshalton.

15" Another counter attack with Batt in midfield picking up the ball and passing it along the left line where Edwards collects it alone. Edwards continues its run inside the area and unleashes a great shot just from the edge of the 6 yard box to score our second. Shot from the same place as our first by Flanagan. Our counter attack is deadly! Accrington with only 3 defenders is having a nightmare to stop my wingers. They found themselves with plenty of space down the wings.

Half time. Accrington playing with a flat 5 in the mid and a flat 3 central defenders at the back is having a nightmare trying to secure the wings where our wingers run havoc with them. When the defenders try to come to the wings to cover, my striker finds himself in a ono-on-one with the last defender causing alot of embarass to Accrington.

63" Flanagan picks up a minory injury and i decide to spare him and bring in Fox to replace him. We are still causing problems to Accrington with our counters down the wings. I set my formation to play even wider, trying to explore this.

68" Brown with a minor injury is replaced by Hamsher.

77" Long range effort by one of Accrington's midfielders and goal. 1-2 now.

Game over. Last minutes of the game saw Accrington in an all out assault on our goal.

Without Flanagan (very fast striker) our counter attack is very poor. I must find a decent backup for this guy very fast.

Accrington 1 vs 2 Carshalton

Goals: Callum Flanagan (10"), Paul Edwards (15")

MoM: Chris Batt (9)

28 November 2005

I manage to get 3 further months on Larsson's (Arsenal) loan contract. I get two offers for Hamsher. Maybe this time i can cash on him. Stockport and Swindon both make bids over 200k.

29 November 2005

Carshalton vs Newport

Attendance: 1813

Wheather: Dry 8'C

Referee: Tony Green

Brown is extremely unfit and in need of games and very intensive trainning. He is replaced by Alistair John on the right wing.

Today we are facing a fellow team from Conference South, that achieved promotion in the playoffs, Newport Co. They are now sitting in 15th place in a battle for relegation.

Newport uses standard 4-4-2.

Game starts

Half time arrives with the score and opportunities at 0-0.

48" Our defense sends a ball upfield to get the pressure out, Flanagan heads the ball back to Batt and he makes a long pass to the right side where Alistair John is running alone in full speed. He continues to run until he reaches the area and unleashes a powerfull strike at goal making it 1-0 for my team! Another counter attack goal.

65" Skelton wins a tackle in midfield and looks up and sends a lovely pass in the middle of the central defenders where Flanagan collects the ball, puts the ball over the defender, gets it on the other side already deep inside the area and shots for a great goal! 2-0

68" Corner from Batt into the edge of the six yard box where Alistair John goes on the first floor and heads it to goal to make the score 3-0. Second goal from John, justifying his call to the first team.

69" Carroll comes in to replace the tired Larsson.

88" Bizarre goal from Flanagan. Keeper is taken an indirect free kick in the middle of Newport's midfield. He shoots, ball hits Flanagan in the midfield line, goes up and stright on goal. Its a 45 yards goal!!! LOL!(i saved this game PKM, if anybody wants to check this goal out!)

93" Batt picks up Edwards on the left flank, he comes into the line on the left flank, centers to the second post where John heads it across the goal for hes hat-trick. 5-0 now and a powerfull play from my team.

Game over.

What a game, mainly the second half. We really trashed Newport. Batt runs our midfield so well while Edwards on the left and John on the right keep feeding Flanagan in the center and even scoring themselves. I give the players a day off and congratulate them on the superb performance. We are now 16 games without losing.

Carshalton 5 vs 0 Newport

Once again Stockport is choosen by Hamsher and once again Stockport has no funds to cover for the offer they made for him. Darn. I offer Hamsher to Swindow right away to see if i can get him out and the 250k in!

Between 1st and 6th there are only 6 points difference. Alot can happen next month, and if we can't concentrate on our play we can go down prety badly to the middle of the table. One or two slips is enough to go down the ladder. We have already 5 league games schedule for next month and the FA Cup 2nd round.

Team is performing very well, and is defending quite nice (only 15 goals suffered), We collected a nice amount of draws so far (7), almost half of our games. Anyway, i am very happy with the performance and also with some of the new players i got this season. The only thing that worries me is our finance situation... that improved a little.

Until next month, be well and play FM!

Cheers,

Carlos Santos, Carshalton Manager
