The player development panel will tell you if they are unhappy due to high or low training workload, or the standard of the coaching etc. Simply resolve their concerns and you should see their happiness improve. If most of your first team squad players are happy which is the norm I find then the players who are unhappy are the lazy type who are not going to make the grade anyway, so I get rid of them.
