Breaking: Santon and Coleman transfers confirmed

344fjow.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

ESPN can confirm that the transfers of Davide Santon from Newcastle to Liverpool and Seamus Coleman from Everton to Newcastle have both been completed in the last few minutes.

David Santon has joined the Merseyside club for a fee of around £30 million pounds while it is being reported that the fee to bring Seamus Coleman to St James’ Park is around £7 million pounds. Newcastle United manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed at the start of the transfer window that no first team player will be allowed to leave the club until a replacement is brought and this was certainly the case here with both deals happening within minutes of each other.

Irish full back Seamus Coleman is believed to have jumped at the chance of signing for Newcastle United with the prospect of playing Champions League football too good to turn down. The twenty five year old joined Everton in the summer of 2008 from Sligo Rovers for a paltry fee of £150,000 but many Everton supporters are disappointed that a fans favourite has been allowed to move to a Premier League rival for so cheap.

In regards to Davide Santon’s switch to Anfield, it is believed that Newcastle United made clear to the player before the end of last season that he was held in high regard at the club and was seen as someone they would like to keep at the club for many years. The £30 million pound bid though was described as ‘astronomical’ by Thomas Tuchel who explained that it was hard for a club the size of Newcastle to turn that sort of money down, the Magpies making a £25 million pound profit on a player who has only been at the club for three seasons. ESPN also understands that the fee will be used to help strengthen other areas of the Magpies squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Newcastle complete permanent Ferreyra deal

9sgcpj.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

Newcastle United have this lunchtime announced that a permanent deal has been completed to keep Facundo Ferreyra at the club, the Argentine signing a four year deal at St James’ Park.

Ferreyra joined the Magpies on a season long loan deal from Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk last summer and went on to finish Barclays Premier League top scorer for the last campaign, netting twenty three goals in what was an excellent debut season in England. When the loan deal was agreed, there was also a buyout clause of £8 million pounds included and manager Thomas Tuchel had no hesitation in bringing the player back to Tyneside once the season was over. The lanky Argentine striker will join his team mates back in pre-season training on 1st July ahead of what promises to be an exciting campaign for Newcastle and their fans.

The twenty three year old started his career at Argentinian side Banfield before moving to Velez Sarsfield in 2012 where he recorded an excellent sixteen goals in twenty one appearances in his only season with El Fortin. Shakhtar Donetsk were impressed with what they saw so decided to splash out a fee of just under £6 million pounds to bring him to the Ukrainian Premier League and he adapted to the differing weather conditions and style of football straight away as he notched six goals in thirteen appearances. Civil unrest in the county meant that Shakhtar were forced to let some of their players leave and Newcastle jumped at the opportunity to bring the prolific striker to the North East of England. He didn’t disappoint in his first season and the Magpies look to have got a bargain deal for such a terrific finisher.

It looks like it is going to be a busy few weeks on Tyneside with regards to transfers as Thomas Tuchel confirmed in a press conference today that he would still like to bring ‘three or four new faces’ into the club before the start of pre-season in just under two weeks’ time. ESPN also understands that there are likely to be more outgoings from Newcastle in the coming days with Yoan Gouffran, Jack Colback and Emmanuel Riviere all looking for new clubs after being told they were surplus to requirements for the upcoming Premier League season.

Trio depart Magpies

24z92br.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

Jack Colback, Emmanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran have all departed from Newcastle United this afternoon, all signing for fellow Premier League sides.

The three players found themselves transfer listed at the end of the last campaign and were advised by Thomas Tuchel that they weren’t in the manager’s plans for the upcoming campaign. Jack Colback was signed in the previous summer by former manager Alan Pardew on a free transfer from rivals Sunderland, however, the midfielder hardly featured under Tuchel and was limited to just four league appearances in the whole of last season. The twenty four year old has signed a three year contract at Queens Park Rangers and is hoping that a return to regular first team football will help with his push for a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad.

Emmanuel Riviere was also signed under the previous campaign but unlike Colback, played a pivotal part in the Magpies push for the top of the table last season. The French forward made twenty six league appearances scoring six goals and picking up three assists in what was a satisfactory first season in English football. Mainly playing on the right hand side of an attacking trio in the season just gone, Riviere was told by Tuchel that the return of Hatem Ben Arfa from a season long loan at Hull would mean appearances would be limited in the new campaign. Swansea manager Gary Monk confirmed his interest in the former Monaco man and a fee of £3.5 million was agreed to take the frontman to Wales where he has signed a four year contract.

The third player to leave St James’ Park today is winger Yoan Gouffran who has put pen to paper on a three year deal with Hull City after a £3 million pounds fee was agreed between the two clubs. Gouffran joined Newcastle in January 2012 and helped the club avoid relegation in what was a tricky campaign for the Toon Army as they tried to juggle the demands of the Europa League with their domestic campaign. The former Bordeaux man was limited to mostly substitute appearances last season where he made thirteen appearances in the league, registering three goals and two assists. Steve Bruce explained that the twenty eight year olds work rate and athleticism will help his side in their push for a top ten position in the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season.

Magpies chasing Serie A midfielder

2gyd0l5.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

ESPN sources understand that Newcastle United have submitted an £8.5 million pound bid for Sampdoria and Spain under twenty one midfielder, Pedro Obiang.

The twenty two year old is a powerful midfielder who is widely being recognised in Serie A as one of the best players in the league at breaking up opposition play and starting attacks for his team. Likened to fellow Serie A midfielder Paul Pogba, Obiang has always stated that he has dreams of playing in the Premier League as he believes it is a league that will suit his playing style. ESPN understands that the bid is likely to be accepted by Sampdoria meaning the player will be free to travel to the North East of England to discuss personal terms.

Born in the Spanish town of Alcala De Henares, Obiang played for local teams in his area before joining the youth side of Atletico Madrid. He made the decision at the age of sixteen to leave Atletico as he joined Sampdoria in the North of Italy. Eventually making his debut in 2010/11 season, the midfielder saw his playing time increased the following season due to Sampdoria’s relegation to Italy’s second division, Serie B. He helped the Blucerchiati bounce back to Serie A at the first attempt and his consistent high quality performances in the league sparked interest from major European clubs. It looks like Newcastle are going to win the race for the player though who will surely jump at the chance of a move to England if the bid is accepted.

In other Newcastle transfer news, it seems that the future of centre back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa lies away from St James’ Park. After a season long loan at Roma last year, the French defender returned to Newcastle last week after a permanent transfer fee couldn’t be agreed between the two clubs. Thomas Tuchel confirmed in his press conference at the end of last week though that he is happy for the twenty five year old to find a new club as playing time will likely be limited for the upcoming campaign. Roma will be trying to gather the funds to bring him back to the Olimpico but it seems Hull City are surprise front runners to bring the former Montpellier man in.

@DazRTaylor - Thanks pal. I certainly hope so, the Champions League will be a big test on the squad though so another top four finish (and cup run) would probably represent a good season  Cheers for reading!

One in and two out for Magpies

eb7pn6.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

It has been another busy day regarding transfers in the North East of England today as Newcastle United confirmed the arrival of Pedro Obiang while also announcing the departures of Mapou Yanga Mbiwa and Vurnon Anita.

Highly rated Spanish midfielder Pedro Obiang has been brought in from Italian club Sampdoria for a fee of £8 million pounds and the combative midfielder has signed a five year contact at St James’ Park. ESPN were the first to reveal earlier in the week that the Magpies had submitted a bid for the twenty two year old and that he was eager to join the club if a fee could be agreed. Newcastle’s bid was accepted almost instantly and the player travelled to Tyneside on Wednesday afternoon to discuss personal terms. The contact was signed this morning and Obiang has already spoken to the Newcastle United official website explaining that he is ‘delighted’ to have signed for such a big club and that he ‘can’t wait’ to challenge himself in the Champions League in the upcoming campaign.

As news broke of Obiang’s arrival, the clubs website also confirmed the departure of two senior players. Mapou Yanga Mbiwa, who spent last season on loan at Serie A giants Roma has signed for fellow Premier League side Hull City while Vurnon Anita, who was a regular in the Newcastle first team last season, has signed for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. French centre back Yanga-Mbiwa reported back to the clubs training base last week after a relatively successful spell in Italy. Roma were desperate to bring the defender to the Stadio Olimpico but a fee could not be agreed and Hull City have swooped for what looks to be a major coup for Steve Bruce and his side. The transfer is believed to have cost Hull City around £3 million pounds, Newcastle making a loss of around £4 million on the player that was brought in from Montpellier in 2012.

The transfer of Vurnon Anita to Wolfsburg is a deal that was completed in the space of twenty four hours. The German giants, powered by car company Volkswagen, are desperate to challenge at the top of the table after a disappointing campaign just gone where they could only finish in sixth place. ESPN understands that manager Dieter Hecking had pin pointed Vurnon Anita as his main transfer target this summer and advised the board to bring him in as soon as possible. A fee was agreed between Wolfsburg and Newcastle straight away and the player and his agent quickly hopped on a flight across to Germany to discuss the finer details of the deal. An agreement was found and the player was presented to the media this lunchtime, less than twenty four hours after a bid was accepted by Newcastle. Thomas Tuchel explained earlier in the window that any player that leaves the club will need to be replaced so it will be interesting to see who the Toon Army opt for to replace Anita, after what has been already an extremely busy window.

Roberto seals Newcastle switch

2v9euzc.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

Newcastle United have today brought in their sixth signing of the summer, young midfielder Sergi Roberto joining from Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Magpies pin pointed the twenty two year old as a replacement for Vurnon Anita who last week signed for Wolfsburg for a fee believed to be around £10 million pounds. Chief scout Graham Carr and club director Lee Charnley flew across to Spain earlier in the week to agree a fee with Barcelona representatives who indicated that they were happy to let the player leave. An offer of £1.3 million pounds was agreed between the two clubs before personal terms were accepted by Roberto yesterday. ESPN understands that the player arrived in the North East of England this morning for a medical before pen was put to paper on a five year deal.

An academy graduate of the famous La Masia youth system, Roberto joined Barcelona at the age of fourteen. He progressed through the ranks at the club before making his debut for the B team in 2009, going on to make 109 appearances for the Catalonian giants second side. He made his first team debut for the senior squad in 2010, Pep Guardiola handing the young midfielder a start against Malaga in a game which Barcelona went on to win 3-1. He has since went on to make twenty five league appearances for the first team in recent years, mostly playing in the Champions League and Copa Del Rey. Roberto has represented Spain at all levels up to under twenty one and he recently said in a press conference that he hopes to break into the Spanish senior squad within the next twelve months; this move to Newcastle will likely represent first team football for the playmaker enabling him to achieve his ambition.

Roberto will meet up with his new team mates tomorrow, the Newcastle squad filtering back to pre-season training after a busy summer for their international players. Captain Fabricio Coloccini will be given an extended break over the summer after the thirty two year old helped his country to the third place playoff in the World Cup in Brazil, Argentina currently preparing to face Belgium in five days’ time.

@DazRTaylor - Thanks! I certainly hope I can make that sort of profit on him. His stats look decent and my scout recommended him while also stating he had lots of potential to improve. I'm pretty much trying to replicate the Newcastle model of real life a little by bringing in younger players and selling them on for large fees after a few seasons so fingers crossed.

St Mirren 1 v.s 3 Newcastle United

28irli1.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

Newcastle ran out comfortable winners this afternoon at a sun soaked St. Mirren Park, a double from Adam Campbell and one from Haris Vuckic helping the Magpies to a routine win.

Thomas Tuchel selected a youthful side for the visitors first pre-season game of the summer but his second string never looked in any danger from a St. Mirren side who struggled to deal with the pace of the Newcastle front four. The game was twenty four minutes old when Adam Campbell netted his first of the afternoon, the flame-haired poacher impressing on his return to Paisley where he had a short loan spell earlier this year. Haris Vuckic exchanged passes with Hatem Ben Arfa down the right hand side before swinging a perfect cross towards the back post where Campbell was lurking. The pocket size striker managed to escape his marker before planting a volley into the roof of the net from eight yards out.

It was then a case of Campbell returning the favour as he provided a delightful assist for Haris Vuckic to double the Magpies lead just before the half hour mark. Ayoze Perez dinked a ball over the top of the St Mirren defence to set Adam Campbell through on goal, the nineteen year old squaring the ball as he strode into the box leaving Haris Vuckic to tap into the unguarded net. Thomas Tuchel was enjoying what he was seeing from his side as they dominated possession, their high pressing game not allowing St Mirren anytime on the ball. It was from this that the Magpies got their third of the game, Ayoze Perez winning the ball on the edge of the penalty area before slotting in Campbell who lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper and into the net for his second of the afternoon.

Gary Teale must have given his side some stern words at half time as the home side were the better team in the second period and grabbed a deserved goal on fifty two minutes when Robbie Sivewright rose highest to power a header past Karl Darlow. The game drifted towards the end with the players seemingly struggling in the warm weather in what was the opening game of pre-season for both sides. Newcastle boss Thomas Tuchel will no doubt be pleased with his sides excellent first half showing though and he will be hoping for more of the same when the Tynesider’s travel to Carlisle in four days’ time. One disappointment for the Magpies is the injury which forced Hatem Ben Arfa off just before the hour mark, early indications suggesting the maverick winger may be on the sidelines for a month.

Carlisle United 1 v.s 3 Newcastle United

359fi1i.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

Newcastle United cruised to a 3-1 victory this evening at Brunton Park, goals from Gael Bigirimana and new signings Nacer Chadli and Pedro Obiang helping the Magpies come out on top in a lively encounter.

Manager Thomas Tuchel again opted with a youthful starting eleven and bench, giving his senior players more time to rest after many of them were involved in the World Cup over the summer. Recent signing Nacer Chadli started his first game for his new club as did young centre back Jamaal Lascelles who was signed by Newcastle last summer before being loaned back to former club Nottingham Forest for the season just gone. It was to be a player signed in the Alan Pardew era though who put the Magpies in front when Gael Bigirimana ghosted in to the box unmarked to glance a header past Carlo Nash in the Carlisle United goal, Seamus Coleman providing the assist, the Irish full back also making his first appearance for his new club.

The home side seemed to spring in to life after going behind and after testing Karl Darlow with a few long range efforts, they finally managed a way past the England under twenty one stopper on thirty six minutes. Joe Maguire played a pass down the left wing for Matty Robson who drove past Seamus Coleman before firing a low cross in towards the near post where Sweeney was arriving. The veteran frontman managed to hold off the attentions of Lascelles to sweep an effort in at the near post. Carlisle then had a decent opportunity to go in ahead at the break but Nicky Featherstone fired an effort over from just outside the penalty area meaning the teams would end the half level.

Premier League class showed in the second half as the Tynesider’s grabbed two quick fire goals to put the game to bed early into the second period. Nacer Chadli rifled a half volley into the top corner of the goal from the edge of the area after he controlled Pedro Obiang’s cross field ball. The Spaniard then got on the score sheet himself as he capitalised on some sloppy play in the centre of midfield before firing a low shot into the bottom corner from twenty five yards out. The visitors could have extended their lead even more as Adam Campbell was denied by the woodwork twice in the space of two minutes but manager Thomas Tuchel will be happy with another pre-season victory. His side now travel to Italy where they will face a much sterner test against Serie A opposition in Chievo and Lazio.

Chievo 1 v.s 2 Newcastle United

54d2z6.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

Newcastle maintained their one hundred percent pre-season record this evening, recording a 2-1 victory at a sun soaked Bentegodi Stadium.

For the first time this summer, Thomas Tuchel decided to field some of his more experienced players in what looked to be Newcastle’s toughest encounter of pre-season so far. Remy Cabella was given his first appearance of the new campaign and it was the Frenchman who put the visitors in front after just thirteen minutes. Cheik Tiote and Facundo Ferreyra played a nice one two just inside the opponents half before the Ivorian threaded a delightful through ball to Cabella who was running into space down the flank. The twenty four year old took the ball in his stride before powering an effort in at the goalkeepers near post, Puggioni getting a hand to the ball but he was unable to divert it away from the net.

It was constant pressure throughout the first half from a lively looking Newcastle side and they doubled their lead just after the half hour mark. Alexandre Lacazette showed a great turn of pace to beat Edimar down the right wing before firing a low cross in towards the penalty spot. Last year’s Premier League top scorer Facundo Ferreyra had managed to lose the attentions of his marker before guiding a first time effort into the far corner, the ball taking a slight nick off the post before nestling in the back of the net. The Serie A side had no answer to the visitor’s fast flowing football and an improvement was needed if they were to retain any pride from this game.

Thankfully for the home supporters, their team did perform a lot better after the break when it seemed Newcastle players legs seemed to wilt in the scorching heat. Maxi Lopez pulled a goal back for the hosts ten minutes into the second period when he brought down a long ball on the edge of the area before turning and firing a low shot past the outstretched gloves of Karl Darlow and into the bottom corner. The Clivensi then had an excellent chance to even the game up just before second half injury time but Daniele Baselli could only fire wide after being player through on goal by Izco. The full time whistle blew shortly after meaning it was now three wins out of three for Newcastle in their pre-season so far. A much sterner test is expected from Lazio who they play in three days’ time.

Chievo: Puggioni (Miranda 76’), Dainelli (Neuton 76’), Papp (Frey 45’), Cesar (Murru 45’), Sardo (Radovanovic 2’), Edimar (Lazarevic 45’), Baselli, Hetemaj (Mangani 60), Izco ©, Paloschi (Gamberini 45’), Lopez (Meggiorini 71’)

@CamillePunk - Thanks! The only worry is that it may take time for them to gel but I'm working on team cohesion in pre-season and we seem to be getting decent results so hopefully the new faces will only benefit the team.

Lazio 0 v.s 4 Newcastle United

14cdtue.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

It looked on paper to be Newcastle’s toughest game of pre-season but the Magpies strolled to victory this evening in the Italian capital, easing past Serie A side Lazio 4-0.

For the second time in four days a strong Newcastle side was selected and they were dominant throughout the game, Lazio struggling to break down a solid defence while also looking shaky at the back against the visitors forward line. There was only ten minutes gone when Facundo Ferreyra grabbed his first goal of the evening, the lanky Argentine striker controlling a Sergi Roberto pass on the edge of the area before bending an effort into the bottom corner of the goal. Lazio goalkeeper Elia Bastianoni managed to get finger tips to the effort but could only help the ball on its journey into the back of the net.

One of the positives for Thomas Tuchel in pre-season so far is the form of young striker Adam Campbell and the Geordie front man grabbed another goal for his hometown club just after half time. Faouzi Ghoulam, back in Italy for the first time since his move away from Serie A last month, managed to wriggle through the Lazio defence to find himself through on goal. He was denied his first Newcastle strike by a last ditch tackle from Gianluca Pollace but the ball rebounded into the path of Campbell who swept the ball home from twelve yards. The best opening of the game for the home side arrived on sixty seven minutes when Ledesma clipped an excellent pass over the top for Senad Lulic to rifle a first time volley past Tim Krul, only to be denied by a correct call from the linesman who had spotted the Bosnian had just stepped offside before the ball was played into him.

Two late strikes from the Magpies added gloss to the victory, Facundo Ferreyra sending a looping header into the far corner of the goal from a Remy Cabella cross on eighty one minutes before Cabella grabbed a goal for himself as he was on hand to curl an effort into the top corner from the edge of the box after Moussa Sissoko saw his shot blocked. It was another thoroughly pleasing ninety minutes for Thomas Tuchel whose side look ready for the start of the Premier League season already. Next up for the Toon Army is a trip to Spain where they will face Tenerife, Real Betis and Albacete in the space of a week before returning to England to prepare for the Community Shield final against Manchester United.

Tenerife 1 v.s 2 Newcastle United

wu03o5.jpg

6xuuz9.jpg

Goals from Sergi Roberto and Adam Campbell helped Newcastle squeeze past Tenerife 2-1 this evening, the Canary Islander’s giving the Magpies their toughest test of the summer so far.

There was only fourteen minutes played when Sergi Roberto, playing in Spain for the first time since leaving Barcelona earlier this month, scored an excellent long range effort. The playmaker picked the ball up in the centre of the park before driving forward towards goal while managing to hold off the attentions of Inigo Ros and Aitor Sanz. The twenty two year old fired an unstoppable thirty yard effort which crashed off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net leaving Nauzet in the Tenerife goal with no chance.

Los Chichaerros grew into the game after going behind and picked up a deserved leveller just before the break. Dani Aquino ran down the left wing with the ball before sharply cutting inside and pulling the ball back to Ortuno on the edge of the area. The twenty three year old striker side stepped the challenge of Jamaal Lascelles before stroking an effort into the bottom corner of the goal, the ball travelling through a number of bodies meaning Karl Darlow could only watch as it nestled into the back of his net.

Newcastle made sure they maintained their one hundred percent pre-season record though when Adam Campbell continued his great form by collecting his fourth goal in as many games. The young forward managed to lose his marker in the penalty area and when Ayoze Perez, back at his old ground, squared the ball across goal, Campbell was on hand to flick into the empty net from six yards out. The hosts did threaten near the end of the game with the best chance falling to substitute Aridane, the burly striker seeing his close ranger header palmed over the bar by Darlow.

ESPN can also reveal some breaking transfer news regarding Newcastle United as we understand the club have agreed a fee of around £8.5 million pounds to acquire the services of Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Barbosa from Santos. The seventeen year old, who is dubbed the new Neymar in his homeland, is thought to be travelling to the North East of England in the coming days and if a deal can be agreed, he will fly across to Spain to join up with his new team mates and may even make an appearance against Albacete in a weeks’ time.
