Authors Notes: Using FM07, plainly because I don’t like FM13. I am only playing the English Leagues Conference North/South. Using a large database, my reputation starts at automatic and I will start unemployed. I holiday the game till I get offered my first job

July 2nd 2006: So the job search begins but with only League side jobs going I knew I wouldn’t get offered any of them. I suppose the wait begins for a Conference side job to come up. Until then it looks like I'll be stuck at home playing on Football Manager trying to hone my skills

September 1st 2006: Finally after what seems an age I have been offered my first job as Wayne Bradley the Chairman of Conference North side Alfreton Town gave me the chance to take over the reigns. I have been offered a contract worth £180 pw till June 2010. I accepted the job straight away and was told that my main priority for the season is to avoid relegation. To help me with this the board have given me around £10,000 to spend on new players which for a part time club is not a bad amount to spend.

The squad is as follows:

The squad doesn’t look to bad in truth but I could do with strengthening the squad, however with a match tomorrow I will start my search in a couple of days.

We are currently sat in 19th place in the Conference North

September 2nd: Nuneaton (H) Conference North (7/42)

Nuneaton were the better side and it didn’t take long for them to have the first chance with a rasping effort which had G.Teague at full stretch to save. On the 29th minute they came close with a low shot past my keeper but the upright saved the day. During the interval I made my first change with C.Mitchell replacing T.Whitman who was struggling with a tight hammy. Twelve minutes into the second I made my next change as A.Brown replaced captain E.Nwadike. Nuneaton continued to pile forward and on the 78th minute they had another chance after breaking through my defence with ease but yet again G.Teague saved the day. Deep into injury time Nuneaton finally got the three points they deserved with B.Moore firing the ball in off the upright after my defence yet again fell asleep

Alfreton Town 0

Nuneaton 1 B.Moore 90+4

G.Teague, R.Clarke, D.Magee, M.Harcourt, M.Barnard, J.Cullingworth, A.Burbeary, E.Nwadike (capt) (57-A.Brown), M.Ebdon, T.Whitman (45-C.Mitchell), J.Palmer

After the game the physio informed me that T.Whitman has pulled his hamstring and will be missing for around 2-4 weeks.

September 7th: I made a triple signing today with Ian Fitzpatrick joining from Droylsden for a fee of £3,000, he is a 25yr old English Attacking Right Midfielder, Jason Moore joins on a free from Moor Green, he is a 23yr old Scottish Striker and finally Lee Jarman joins from Weston-Super-Mare for £3,000, he is a 28yr old Sweeper/Central Defender from Wales

September 9th: Blyth (A) (8/42)

Blyth got off to the better start and on the 11th minute they took the lead as A.Wright jinked into the area and fired past my keeper. Soon after they had another chance with a low effort which was diverted wide by D.Magee. On the 25th minute Blyth doubled their lead as G.Fonton headed in past my keeper after some pretty sh*t defending in truth. However four minutes later we pulled a goal back as M.Ebdon beat the offside trap and fired under the keeper. The goal lifted my players and on the stroke of half time we equalised with C.Mitchell hitting a thunderous effort off the upright to send the few away fans wild. The second half was eleven minutes old when we took the lead as C.Mitchell jinked into the area with ease and slotted the ball under the keeper. On the 67th minute Blyth were reduced to ten men after A.Gildea was sent off for a second yellow card. Straight after the sending off I made a double change with M.Barnard and A.Brown coming on for R.Clarke and J.Moore. However Blyth started to play better with the ten men and with six minutes remaining in the game they grabbed the equaliser with N.Gildea doing the honours for Blyth from the edge of the area

Blyth 3 A.Wright 11, G.Fonton 25, N.Gildea 84

Alfreton Town 3 M.Ebdon 29, C.Mitchell 45+2, 56

September 13th: Gainsborough (H) (9/42)

Eight minutes into the game I was forced into a change as C.Mitchell received a chest injury, his replacement was A.Tiday. The injury news didn’t get any better as on the 26th minute I was forced into another change with J.Palmer coming on for J.Moore. Luckily we managed to get to the half time interval without losing another player. The second half wasn’t great for us as within five minute D.Hollingsworth had put Gainsborough a goal up with a fine strike from outside the area. On the 54th minute we were two goals own as S.Bird headed past my keeper with ease after some woeful defending saw him with a free header. Eleven minutes later Gainsborough were three goals to the good as E.Graves jinked into the area and rounded my keeper to fire the ball into the empty net. My defence were terrible but with six minutes remaining in the game we pulled a goal back as A.Tiday fired in to give the home fans something to shout about

After the game the physio let me know that C.Mitchell will be out for around 1-2 weeks after receiving bruised ribs and J.Moore will be out for around the same time with a damaged neck

September 16th: Kettering (A) (10/42)

For once we began well and on the 11th minute we had the ball in the back of the net as J.Palmer ran into the area and fired into the net but the goal was ruled out for offside. Nine minutes later though we took the lead as M.Ebdon slotted home from the penalty spot after A.Tiday was brought down in the area. We continued to pile forward and on the 35th minute Kettering were reduced to ten men after D.Beharall was sent off for a rash challenge on J.Palmer. With five minutes remaining in the half we grabbed our second goal as E.Nwadike headed in brilliantly from inside the area after a great cross from I.Fitzpatrick. The second half saw us continuing to dominate and on the 66th minute we added goal number three as A.Burbeary ran in from the wing and unleashed a great effort from the corner of the area. Straight after the goal I made a couple of changes with A.Brown and J.Cullingworth coming on for M.Ebdon and A.Tiday

Kettering 0

  • 3 weeks later...

September 23rd: Stalybridge (A) (11/42)

We came down from our last match with a bang as Stalybridge controlled the game with ease and on the 12th minute they took the lead as a mistake by M.Harcourt saw C.Watkins intercept the loose ball and fired under my keeper. Six minutes later it was two nil with N.Curbin doing the honours from outside the area. We weren’t getting near the ball and on the 33rd minute Stalybridge should have added another goal with a low effort past G.Teague but luckily for us D.Magee reacted well and cleared the ball off the line. With three minutes remaining in the half I was forced into a change as A.Burbeary was replaced by J.Cullingworth. During the interval I made another change with M.Barnard replacing L.Jarman. The second half started pretty well for us and eleven minutes in we pulled a goal back as A.Tiday beat the offside trap and rounded the Stalybridge keeper to slot home into the empty net. However after the goal we reverted back to form and on the 64th minute C.Watkins doubled his tally for the game with a thunderous effort which gave G.Teague no chance of saving. Ten minutes later Stalybridge added the final goal of the game with M.Atkins running through my defence with far too much ease and fired past G.Teague

Stalybridge 4 C.Watkins 12, 64, N.Curbin 18, M.Atkins 74

Alfreton Town 1 A.Tiday 56

G.Teague, R.Clarke, D.Magee, M.Harcourt, L.Jarman (45-M.Barnard), I.Fitzpatrick, A.Burbeary (inj 42-J.Cullingworth), E.Nwadike (capt), M.Ebdon, A.Tiday, J.Palmer

Yet another injury with A.Burbeary out for around 3-4 weeks after suffering broken ribs just before the half time.

September 30th: Hucknall (H) FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

Hucknall began the better and on the 7th minute they came close with a low effort towards goal but G.Teague was on hand to save the day. Ten minutes later they had another chance after my defence failed to deal with a simple ball but G.Teague again saved well. On the 25th minute we had our first chance to score as J.Palmer hit a wonderful effort towards but his effort clipped the upright and went out. With seven minutes remaining in the half Hucknall took the lead as G.Ricketts barged into the area and headed in a great cross. However on the 43rd minute our players reacted well as A.Tiday sprinted towards goal and fired the ball off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. I made one change at half time with J.Moore coming on for A.Tiday. The second half was eleven minutes old when we came close to taking the lead as substitute J.Moore fired the ball straight at the keeper. Hucknall then had their next chance as on the 77th minute they broke into the area but R.Clarke managed to clear the ball. With eight minutes remaining in the game I made a double change with A.Brown and M.Barnard coming on for C.Flanagan and L.Jarman

Alfreton Town 1 A.Tiday 43

Hucknall 1 G.Ricketts 38

G.Teague, R.Clarke, D.Magee, M.Harcourt, L.Jarman (82-M.Barnard), I.Fitzpatrick, C.Flanagan (82-A.Brown), E.Nwadike (capt), M.Ebdon, A.Tiday (45-J.Moore), J.Palmer

September Review: Not a great start for me in truth with just the one victory. My cause hasn’t been helped with the constant stream of injuries however I cant use this as an excuse.

October 2nd: The draw for the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round has seen us pitted away against either Whitby or Team Bath, however we need to beat Hucknall in the our own replay

October 4th: Hucknall (A) FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round Replay

A real dire game as both sets of players failed to string more than a couple of passes together. The first half was a real drag with nothing at all happening. The second half wasn’t much better with again no real action and once the whistle blew for the end of ninety minutes the fans let us know what they thought. Extra time was again dire and it went to penalties with the fans hoping this would at least add a bit of excitement

M.Fox stepped up for the first penalty and fired past my keeper with ease (1-0)

M.Ebdon was up first for my side and he wasted no time in firing into the back of the net (1-1)

C.Moore stepped up next for Hucknall and hit the ball low past my keeper (2-1)

M.Rawle was next for my side but his penalty was dire and the Hucknall keeper easily saved it (2-1)

O.Olanipekun was next for Hucknall and fired the ball towards goal but G.Teague saved well (2-1)

R.Clarke was next and hit the ball with power past the keeper (2-2)

L.Colkin hit his penalty with great accuracy in off the upright to give Hucknall the advantage (3-2)

L.Jarman stepped up for my side and slotted the ball with ease past the keeper (3-3)

M.Briscoe was next for Hucknall and slammed the penalty past G.Teague with ease (4-3)

I.Fitzpatrick had to score and fired the ball with power towards goal but his shot went well wide of the post to give Hucknall the victory (4-3)

October 7th: Farsley (H) (12/42)

Six minutes into the game we had our first chance as C.Mitchell ran through the defence with the ball and fired towards the net but the keeper was on hand to smother the ball. On the 18th minute we had another chance with C.Flanagan crossing the ball into the area but A.Tiday failed to connect his head on the ball. Eight minutes later we came close again as A.Tiday again failed to hit the target. On the 34th minute Farsley countered one of our attacks and N.Trotman fired in under M.Curtis. With three minutes remaining in the half we grabbed the equaliser as A.Tiday finally hit the net with a fine strike from 20 yards. The second half was ten minutes old when we took the lead as J.Cullingworth barged into the area and headed in a M.Ebdon cross. We continued to dominate but with two minutes remaining in the game Farsley grabbed the equaliser with M.Bett firing in past M.Curtis.

October 21st: Workington (A) (13/42)

Workington got off to a great start with J.Earl grabbing the lead with a fine low strike past R.Liddicott on the 13th minute. Ten minutes later they had another chance with a thunderous effort which had R.Liddicott at full stretch to save the ball. Just after the half hour Workington had another chance with a powerful effort which had M.Barnard diverting the ball wide of the post. The second half was eight minutes old when I made a couple of changes with C.Howard and T.Whitman coming on for C.Flanagan and J.Moore. On the hour we finally scored but it was in the wrong net as D.Magee headed in a corner past his own keeper. However on the 70th minute we pulled a goal back as M.Ebdon struck from 25 yards after A.Tiday was brought down on the way to goal. The goal lifted my players but we just couldn’t get the equaliser

October 28th: Leigh (H) (14/42)

Fifteen minutes into the game I was forced into a change after M.Ebdon picked up an injury, he was replaced by C.Howard. On the 20th minute the first goal of the game was scored as N.Grayson fired in from the edge of the area to give Leigh the lead. Three minutes later I was forced into another change with A.Brown replacing the injured C.Flanagan. On the 39th minute we levelled the scores as J.Moore ran onto a E.Nwadike throughball and fired the ball under the onrushing keeper. With two minutes remaining in the game Leigh were reduced to ten men after C.Simm was sent off for a second yellow card. During the break I made my final change with M.Bradford coming on for L.Jarman. The second half in truth was a dire affair with little in the way of action and it pretty much dragged away.

October Review: Another month without a victory. Was disappointed with the loss in the FA Cup and to finish the month at the foot of the table is not good. However the board are still happy with me but I need to start turning things around before I receive my P45

A tough start with Alfreton for sure, but the league is very tight just above yourself so fingers crossed that you can pick up a few points next time around and start looking towards the mid-table pack a little more!

Fun fact: I'm actually at University in Scarborough! Will be keeping an eye on them, and of course yourself, during this save!

Its not the start I was hoping for and the following result shows how poor the team are performing at the moment. I'm hoping that the players can turn it around before we get too far behind

November 4th: Yate (H) Fa Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round

We controlled much of the first half and on the 13th minute we came close to the first goal as T.Whitman rattled the upright from outside the area. Eight minutes later we had another chance with E.Nwadike beating the offside trap but his effort was pretty dire and the ball went wide of the post. With nine minutes remaining in the half we finally took the lead as T.Whitman ran onto a E.Nwadike through ball and fired under the onrushing keeper. During the interval I made a couple of changes with J.Palmer and J.Moore coming on for A.Brown and A.Tiday. The second half got off to a terrible start as within a minute A.Spencer had levelled the tie for Yate. On the 49th minute Yate grabbed the lead as some dire defending in general saw B.Court firing past R.Liddicott with ease. Yate continued to control the half and on the 66th minute we had the referee to thank as he ruled out a goal offside when in truth it looked well onside. With twelve minute remaining in the game we had our first chance in the half as A.Burbeary curled the ball towards goal but the Yate keeper saved well.

Alfreton Town 1 T.Whitman 36

November 11th: Scarborough (A) (15/42)

Straight from kick off Scarborough took the lead as O.Allen headed in from a deep cross. However on the second minute we levelled the score with T.Whitman doing the honours from close range after the keeper flapped at an I.Fitzpatrick cross. On the 4th minute Scarborough grabbed another goal but luckily for us it was an own goal by S.Davies who diverted a A.Burbeary cross past his own keeper. After the frantic start to the game it quieten down but with four minutes remaining in the half Scarborough levelled the tie with C.Bart-Williams tapping in after a great Scarborough team move. The second half saw C.Howard and J.Moore coming on for E.Nwadike and T.Whitman. Scarborough started the second half the better and just before the hour they grabbed the lead as A.Brown headed the ball past R.Liddicott for an own goal. On the 71st minute there was another own goal as Scarborough's D.Ingram beat his own keeper with a wicked diversion from A.Brown's powerful low shot. With ten minutes remaining in the game Scarborough won the game with a thunderous effort from A.Timmins.

November 15th; Lancaster (A) (16/42)

Lancaster started the better and on the 9th minute they grabbed the first goal but luckily for us the goal was ruled out for offside. Ten minutes later the home side came close again but this time C.Jackson was on hand to block the effort. We finally had our first chance just before the half hour as T.Whitman ran onto an A.Burbeary through ball but his final effort was well wide of the post. With eight minutes remaining in the half we grabbed the lead as L.Jarman headed the ball in off the upright from an I.Fitzpatrick cross. On the 41st minute we doubled our lead as Lancaster failed to deal with a T.Whitman effort and A.Tiday tapped in the loose ball. The second half saw us controlling the play and on the 63rd minute we should have scored but M.Ebdon somehow missed an open net. Three minutes later I made a change as J.Palmer replaced T.Whitman. With twelve minutes remaining in the game Lancaster had the final chance of the game with a rasping which saw C.Jackson at full stretch to save

November 18th: Redditch (H) (17/42)

Redditch started the better and on the 12th minute they took the lead as C.Palmer beat the offside trap and fired the ball under C.Jackson. Four minutes later though we levelled the score line as A.Tiday barged into the area and fired with power past the keeper. On the 34th minute we had the next chance to score with T.Whitman heading an E.Nwadike corner towards goal but the Redditch keeper saved well. During the break I made one change with M.Bradford coming on for M.Harcourt. Just before the hour mark Redditch grabbed the lead as F.Francis ran through my defence with ease and rounded C.Jackson to tap into the empty net. On the 61st minute I made a change as J.Moore came on for A.Tiday. Ten minutes after the change J.Moore came close to levelling the match for us but his effort from the edge of the area wouldn’t dip enough and went just over the crossbar. With four minutes remaining in the game we had the final chance as T.Whitman tried his luck from the corner of the area but the Redditch keeper saved well to deny us the share of the points

Alfreton Town 1 A.Tiday 16

Redditch 2 C.Palmer 12, F.Francis 59

C.Jackson, M.Barnard, D.Magee, L.Jarman, M.Harcourt (45-M.Bradford), I.Fitzpatrick, A.Burbeary, E.Nwadike (capt), A.Brown, T.Whitman, A.Tiday (61-J.Moore)

November 24th: My physio has let me know that J.Palmer will be out for around a week after suffering a dead leg

November 28th: More injury news sees R.Clarke out for around two months after dislocating his shoulder in training

November Review: One win out of four is not a good return and to go out to a lower league team in the Cup is not going to help my job prospects. However the one win in the League we did have has moved us off the bottom of the league but are still in the relegation zone and five points from safety. I am going to start to get all players and staff signed up to full time contract before the end of the season so hopefully this will improve the training that can be given.

December 2nd: Worksop (H) (18/42)

Worksop battered us in the first half as they controlled the play and we just never got near the ball. On the 16th minute they had the first chance with a low effort which had C.Jackson at full stretch to save. Eight minutes later they came close with a powerful shot which again C.Jackson saved well. Just before the break Worksop split us apart with a great team move but yet again C.Jackson was their to tip the ball over the crossbar. The second half started pretty much the same with Worksop battering us and on the 57th minute S.Miller finally gave Worksop the lead with a well struck shot which flew into the top corner. Four minutes later I made a double change as I.Fitzpatrick and J.Palmer came on for J.Cullingworth and C.Mitchell. The change didn’t really make much difference and on the 79th minute they grabbed another goal S.Duncan heading in past C.Jackson after my defence misjudged the flight of the ball. Two minutes later we countered a Worksop attack and A.Tiday fired in past the keeper. With a minute remaining in the game Worksop grabbed another goal but luckily for us J.Green diverted a A.Burbeary cross past his own keeper to give us an unlikely point.

December 9th: Droylsden (A) (19/42)

Droylsden like most team so far this season battered us and on the 13th minute they had the chance to open the scoring with a low effort which M.Barnard diverted wide of the post. Ten minutes later Droylsden had another chance with a powerful effort which stung the fingers of C.Jackson. It was one way traffic as the home side piled forward time and time again till the half time whistle. During the interval I went mad at the player but it had little effect as Droylsden carried on with the barrage of attacks and on the 66th minute they had their next chance with a curling effort which had C.Jackson at full stretch to save. Seven minutes later I made a double change as I.Fitzpatrick and J.Palmer came on for J.Cullingworth and T.Whitman. On the 79th minute we had the referee to thank after he ruled a goal out for offside. Four minutes later the winner was scored as we countered yet another Droylsden attack and A.Tiday fired in a E.Nwadike through ball. How we won this game I'll never know

December 16th: Worcester (H) (20/42)

Worcester had the first chance of the game as they broke through my teams defence but before they had the chance to shoot M.Barnard slid in and cleared the ball. On the 18th minute we had our first chance as J.Cullingworth hit a powerful effort towards goal but the Worcester keeper tipped the ball over the crossbar. Nine minutes later we finally grabbed the opener as C.Flanagan beat the offside trap and dinked the ball over the onrushing keeper. Just before the break Worcester had their next chance to score as a great team move split my defence apart but C.Jackson reacted well to block the effort. I made one change at half time with C.Howard coming on for C.Flanagan. The second half started well for us and on the hour we added another goal with a tap in from A.Tiday but the goal was ruled out for offside. On the 74th minute J.Cullingworth whipped in a great cross but T.Whitman could only head the ball wide of the post. Six minutes later though Worcester levelled the scores as L.Bright headed in after my defence failed to deal with a simple cross. My players though upped their game after the goal and deep into injury we grabbed the winner as M.Barnard fired in from the penalty spot after T.Whitman's powerful effort was handled

December 26th: Barrow (A) (21/42)

Six minutes into the game we opened the scoring as T.Whitman beat the offside trap and fired past the keeper who was slow to react. Soon after we had another chance with a low effort which beat the keeper but not the upright. On the 21st minute I was forced into a change as J.Palmer came on for the injured A.Tiday. Four minutes later we grabbed the next goal as T.Whitman barged through the defence and headed in a J.Cullingworth. On the half hour though Barrow pulled a goal back as L.Porter showed great skill to beat my defence and fire under the keeper. With six minutes remaining in the half Barrow levelled the score line as S.Brough dinked the ball over C.Jackson. During the interval I made another change as M.Ebdon came on for A.Burbeary. The second half saw my players upping their game and on the 72nd minute we retook the lead as L.Jarman curled in from the edge of the area after running in from the wing. With ten minutes remaining in the game we completed the scoring as T.Whitman completed his hat trick with a well struck effort from just inside the area

December 30th: Hinckley (A) (22/42)

A pretty dire start to the game saw both sides struggle to break each other down with most of the play in the centre of the field. On the 23rd minute though Hinckley had the first real effort of the game as their keeper hoofed the ball up-field but my keeper C.Jackson reacted well and cleared the ball before the attacker had the chance to shoot. The second half started much as the first with little action but with fourteen minutes remaining in the game we took the lead as J.Moore beat the offside trap and dinked the ball over the onrushing Hinckley keeper. Straight after the goal I made a change as C.Howard came on for T.Whitman. However on the 88th minute Hinckley grabbed a share of the points as R.Lavery showed great skill to beat my defence and wasted no time in firing past the onrushing C.Jackson.

December Review: An unbeaten month which sees us moving out of the relegation zone. We seem to have hit a nice run of form and lets hope we can keep this up and stay away from the relegation fight in the new year.

January 1st 2007: Hyde (H) (23/42)

Nine minutes into the game we had our first chance as J.Moore beat the offside trap and fired under the keeper but the ball bobbled wide of the post. Soon after we had another chance as a long ball over the top was volleyed towards goal by C.Flanagan but the ball was tipped round the post by the keeper. On the 28th minute we grabbed the goal we deserved as T.Whitman ran into the area and tapped in a low E.Nwadike cross. Just before the break we had yet another chance with a low effort from T.Whitman but the keeper again saved the day. I made one change at half time with M.Ebdon coming on for C.Flanagan. The second half was much the same as the first as we continued to pile forward but we couldn’t finish but luckily for us Hyde never even threatened our goal

January 6th: Hucknall (A) (24/42)

Hucknall grabbed the first goal of the game as on the 14th minute D.Williams beat the offside trap and fired in off the upright. However four minutes later T.Whitman equalised with a great snap shot from a powerful A.Burbeary cross. On the 34th minute we had another chance with a thunderous effort from J.Moore but the keeper was on hand to tip the effort round the post. With five minutes remaining in the half we took the lead as M.Barnard headed in an I.Fitzpatrick free-kick. During the interval I made a double change as E.Nwadike and J.Palmer came on for the injured M.Ebdon and J.Moore. Nine minutes into the half we added another goal as J.Palmer did the honours from close range after some woeful Hucknall defending. However on the 57th minute Hucknall pulled a goal back with A.Coote hitting a daisy cutter past C.Jackson. My players upped their game and on the 69th minute we had the chance to add a further goal with a curling effort which went round the wrong side of the post. Three minutes later I made my final change as C.Flanagan came on for C.Howard

January 13th: Moor Green (H) (25/42)

We never gave Moor Green a sniff of the ball as we dominated and on the 20th minute we took the lead as T.Whitman ran into the area unmarked and fired in a C.Howard cross. Five minutes later Moor Green were down to ten men after R.Savnder was sent off for a rash challenge on M.Harcourt. We continued to dominate and on the stroke of half time we grabbed our second goal as T.Whitman hit a wonderful curling effort off the upright and into the back of the net. I made one change at half time with E.Nwadike coming on for C.Howard. Two minutes into the half we added goal number three as D.Magee headed in from just inside the area after a great cross from I.Fitzpatrick. Moor Green weren’t getting close to the ball and on the hour we had another chance to score with T.Whitman failing to complete his hat trick from close range. On the 73rd minute I was forced into a change as C.Flanagan came on for the injured M.Ebdon.

January 20th: Vauxhall (H) (26/42)

We started the better and on the 13th minute we had the first chance with A.Brown rattling the upright from outside the area. Nine minutes later we had another shot with T.Whitman trying his luck but the Vauxhall keeper saved well to deny him. It was one way traffic and on the 29th minute T.Whitman had another chance as he rose above the Vauxhall defence to head in an A.Burbeary cross. With five minutes remaining in the half Vauxhall took the lead as they countered us and L.McGivern fired the ball past C.Jackson. The second half was much the same as we dominated with ease and on the 58th minute we had yet another chance with A.Tiday fluffing his effort when it was easier to score. Seven minutes later I made a double change with C.Flanagan and J.Moore coming for A.Brown and A.Tiday. We continued to control the game and on the 79th minute we came close with a low rasping effort from J.Moore but his effort failed to hit the target

January 27th: Harrogate (A) (27/42)

The first half wasn’t the best you'll ever see in football with my Alfreton side struggling with the basics of the game. During the interval I went mad at my players. Five minutes into the half I made a double change as C.Howard and J.Moore came on for A.Brown and A.Tiday. My players were upping the gears and on the 68th minute we took the lead as L.Prosser of Harrogate diverted the ball past his own keeper for an own goal. Six minutes later we doubled our lead as T.Whitman unleashed a powerful effort from 25 yards which gave the keeper no chance of saving. Straight after the goal I made a change with M.Bradford coming on for L.Jarman. With ten minutes remaining in the game we grabbed goal number three as A.Burbeary ran in from the wing and curled the ball into the top corner of the goal

January 30th: Another player has come down with a cold as P.Burns will be out for around a week with it

January Review: Sorry there’s no table, I forgot to save it like a muppet. However four wins out of five is a good return for the month. Lets hope we can keep up the form

February 3rd: Nuneaton (A) (28/42)

We started well and on the 9th minute we came close to opening the scoring as A.Tiday headed an A.Brown cross just wide of the post. Ten minutes later we had another chance with a thunderous effort from I.Fitzpatrick but the Nuneaton keeper saved well. On the 22nd minute though we conceded a sloppy goal as D.Burgess tapped in from under the crossbar after C.Jackson dropped a simple cross. Eight minutes before the half time interval we grabbed a goal as A.Tiday tapped in from inside the area but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build up. During the interval I made a couple of changes with C.Flanagan and J.Moore coming on for A.Brown and T.Whitman. The second half though saw my side struggling to string more than a couple of passes together and at the final whistle I let my players know how unhappy I was the second half performance

February 10th: Blyth (H) (29/42)

We dominated the game and on the 13th minute we had the first chance with a long range effort from A.Brown but the ball went just over the crossbar. Ten minutes later we had another chance as A.Burbeary crossed into the area but J.Moore headed wide of the post when it was easier to score. With nine minutes remaining in the half Blyth took a surprising lead as they countered one of our many attacks and A.Wright fired in under my keeper. The second half interval saw me bringing in C.Flanagan and A.Tiday for A.Burbeary and T.Whitman. Nine minutes into the half we levelled the score as A.Tiday headed in an I.Fitzpatrick free-kick after J.Moore was hauled down on the way to goal. We continued to pile forward and on the 68th minute we had another chance with C.Flanagan rattling the crossbar from 25 yards. Five minutes later I was forced into a change as J.Moore pulled up on a run and was replaced by C.Howard.

February 17th: Kettering (H) (30/42)

Not the greatest of games for the football purist as we struggled with the basics of football. It took till late in the first half for the first real effort of the game as Kettering piled forward but the final effort was as poor as the start of the half. The second half wasn’t much better with some real poor play. On the 62nd minute I made a double change as C.Flanagan and C.Mitchell came on for A.Brown and T.Whitman. The game dragged on and both sets of fans let the players know what they thought of the performance

February 24th: Gainsborough (A) (31/42)

Straight from kick off we took the lead as C.Mitchell ran onto an E.Nwadike through ball and fired the ball under the onrushing Gainsborough keeper. On the 20th minute we grabbed another goal with R.Clarke volleying a great ball into the net, however it was past C.Jackson for an own goal. The goal lifted Gainsborough and on the stroke of half time they took the lead as S.Bird jinked through my defence with far too much ease and fired past C.Jackson. The second half was eleven minutes old when I made a double change as M.Ebdon and A.Tiday came on for A.Burbeary and C.Mitchell. My players upped the gears and started to control the play and on the 71st minute we levelled the score with T.Whitman heading in from an A.Brown cross. With seven minutes remaining in the game we had a clear cut chance to score as T.Whitman was brought down in the area for a penalty, A.Tiday stepped up for the penalty and fired the ball towards goal but the penalty was well saved by the Gainsborough keeper

February Review: The opposite of January with some dire performances and no win in the month is not what I had in mind. However we are pretty clear of relegation but we cant afford another month like this otherwise we could be back in the mire. Lets hope our physio room doesn’t get any fuller otherwise we could be in trouble

March 3rd: Stalybridge (H) (32/42)

We didn’t give Stalybridge much of a chance as we controlled the whole match with ease and on the 21st minute we took the lead as C.Mitchell beat the offside trap after running onto a M.Ebdon through ball and fired under the keeper. Twelve minutes later we had another chance was I.Fitzpatrick curled the ball just wide of the post. It was far too easy for us but we couldn’t add another goal in the first half. The second half was much the same as we continued to pile forward. On the 65th minute I made a change as C.Howard replaced M.Ebdon. Stalybridge weren’t getting anything of the ball and with ten minutes remaining in the game we doubled our lead as T.Whitman ran through the defence and dinked the ball over the keeper. On the 86th minute we made it three nil as C.Mitchell grabbed his second of the game with a great header from an A.Burbeary cross

March 6th: Workington (H) (33/42)

A real struggle of a game as we failed to get close to the Workington defence. Workington though weren’t much better and the fans let us know what they thought of the performance as the referee blew for the end of the half. I made two changes at half time with C.Flanagan and A.Tiday coming on for A.Burbeary and T.Whitman. Unfortunately the second half wasn’t much better as we again failed to make any move towards goal and the game ended without any real effort on goal

March 10th: Farsley (A) (34/42)

Farsley were by far the better side and on 3rd minute they had the ball in the back of the net but luckily for us the referee ruled it out for a foul in the build up. Twelve minutes later they had another chance with a rasping effort which had R.Liddicott at full stretch to save. Just before the half time interval Farsley came close with a thunderous effort which went just wide of the post. The second half was much the same with the home side dominating but on the 69th minute we grabbed the opener with T.Whitman scoring with our first effort of the game. Farsley upped their game even more and we never got near the ball. On the stroke of full time they got the goal they deserved with a well struck effort from R.Dawes which gave R.Liddicott no chance of saving.

March 17th: Leigh (A) (35/42)

Six minutes into the game we had our first effort with M.Rawle rattling the upright from 25 yards. Soon after we had another chance with thunderous effort which had the Leigh keeper at full stretch to block. On the 23rd minute we finally took the lead as T.Whitman ran onto a L.Jarman through ball to fire the ball under the keeper. Eight minutes later we came close to doubling our lead but I.Fitzpatrick's effort went over the crossbar. With a minute remaining in the half Leigh countered us and N.Platt headed in from close range. The second half saw us continuing to control the play and on the hour we had yet another chance with A.Burbeary curling the ball just wide of the post when he really should have scored. On the 74th minute I made a change with J.Moore coming on for M.Rawle. Deep into injury time we grabbed the winning goal we deserved as A.Brown fired in a great free-kick from 30 yards after J.Moore was brought down on the way to goal

March 24th: Lancaster (H) (36/42)

We dominated the Lancaster team and on the 7th minute we should have taken the lead but M.Rawle failed to score from the penalty spot after A.Brown was brought down in the area. Twelve minutes later we had another chance as E.Nwadike tried his luck from outside the area but the Lancaster keeper managed to save well. It was one way traffic and just before the break we had yet another chance as T.Whitman rattled the upright from 25 yards after running through the midfield with ease. The second half was eight minutes old when I made a couple of changes with C.Flanagan and C.Mitchell coming on for A.Burbeary and the less than impressive M.Rawle who wasn’t happy with coming off the pitch. On the 73rd minute we had another chance to score as I.Fitzpatrick curled the ball into the area but C.Mitchell headed just wide of the post. Just before the final whistle we were awarded another penalty after C.Mitchell's effort was handled in the area, E.Nwadike stepped up for the kick and fired it high and wide of the goal. How we didn’t rout Lancaster is beyond me and I let the players how disappointed I was with the end product

Its starting to turn out ok at the moment

March 31st: Redditch (A) (37/42)

Ten minutes into the game we had the first chance as A.Brown ran through the defence and fired towards goal but the keeper saved well. On the 18th minute we had another effort with a curling effort which beat the keeper but not the upright. We were controlling the game but with six minutes remaining in the half Redditch grabbed the lead as F.Francis beat the offside trap after countering one of our attacks and fired under the keeper. The second half was much the same as we pressed forward and on the 54th minute we had another chance to score with T.Whitman shooting straight at the keeper when an inch either side would have seen him score. Seven minutes later I made a double change as C.Flanagan and J.Moore coming on for E.Nwadike and A.Tiday. On the 66th minute we were hit on the break again as C.Palmer finished the counter with a brilliant lob over R.Liddicott who was well off his line. A minute later we were reduced to ten men after A.Brown received a second yellow card for a silly challenge. Despite being down to ten men we continued to press forward but we failed to get close to scoring

March Review: Despite only winning one game we moved up to 13th in the League. With five games remaining we look safe from the threat of relegation. I want to end the season on a high

April 3rd: Goalie R.Liddicott will be missing for around a week after getting food poisoning

April 7th: Scarborough (H) (38/42)

Nine minutes into the game we went a goal down as C.Thompson beat the offside trap and ran into the area to fire under the body of C.Jackson. On the 21st minute they had another chance to score with a long range effort which had C.Jackson at full stretch to save. Just after the half hour we had our first chance with T.Whitman coming close from inside the area. On the stroke of half time Scarborough came close with a great team move but M.Barnard reacted well to slid in and clear the ball. I made one change at half time with C.Mitchell coming on for the ineffective J.Moore. The second half was a little better for as we started to press home more. Ten minutes into the half we came close with C.Flanagan crossing into the area but T.Whitman failed to connect with the ball. On the 62nd minute we finally levelled the scores as M.Barnard headed in an A.Burbeary corner after C.Mitchell's initial effort was well saved. Scarborough weren’t getting near the ball and on the 83rd minute we had the final chance of the game as C.Mitchell rattled the upright from the corner of the area after running in from the wing

April 9th: Worksop (A) (39/42)

Twelve minutes into the game we took the lead as E.Nwadike ran into the area and fired the ball past the Worksop keeper. On the 28th minute we had another chance with J.Moore rattling the upright from just inside the area. Worksop weren’t getting anything from the ball and on the stroke of half time we had another chance with a curling effort from C.Flanagan but the ball didn’t curl enough and went wide of the post. Three minutes into the second half we finally got the second goal we deserved as A.Burbeary hit a brilliant effort from 35 yards to give the Worksop keeper no chance of saving. On the hour we were awarded a penalty after J.Moore was brought down in the area, M.Barnard stepped up and fired the penalty towards goal but the keeper blocked the effort however M.Barnard reacted well and tapped in the rebound. We were in complete control but with a minute remaining in the game Worksop pulled a goal back as R.Hughes tapped in from close range after C.Jackson spilt a simple effort

April 14th: Droylsden (H) (40/42)

Eight minutes into the game we had the first chance of the game with A.Burbeary crossing into the area but J.Moore fluffed his header wide of the post. On the 22nd minute we had another chance with T.Whitman barging into the area and fired towards goal but the keeper saved well to deny him the opener. Four minutes later though we were reduced to ten men after M.Bradford was sent off for a second yellow card. Straight after the sending I made a change with C.Howard coming on for J.Moore. Just before the break we yet another chance as C.Flanagan curled the ball just wide of the post from a free-kick after T.Whitman was brought down. A minute into the second half we finally grabbed the lead as T.Whitman ran through onto an I.Fitzpatrick ball and fired under the Droylsden keeper. On the 58th minute we doubled the lead as C.Flanagan hit the target with a well struck free-kick from 25 yards after a foul on T.Whitman. We were controlling the game and on the 72nd minute Droylsden were reduced to ten men after C.Messam was sent off for a punch on A.Burbeary. I made another change straight after the sending off. We continued the forward pressure but we couldn't add to our tally

April 21st: Worcester (A) (41/42)

A poor start saw us a goal down a minute into the game as C.Smith jinked through my defence and fired under R.Liddicott. On the 17th minute Worcester had another chance to score as my defence failed to pick up a run but luckily for us R.Liddicott managed to block the effort. On the half hour we levelled the scores as T.Whitman rose above the defence and headed in a C.Flanagan cross. However our joy didn’t last long as with six minutes in the half remaining A.Holgate gave the lead back to Worcester with a fine strike from outside the area. I made a couple of changes at half time with C.Howard and C.Mitchell coming on for A.Burbeary and J.Moore. Ten minutes into the half we levelled the scores again as T.Whitman grabbed his second of the game with a rasping effort from ten yards. Worcester started to up the gears and on the 73rd minute they yet again regained the lead as A.Warlow tapped in from close range after R.Liddicott flapped at what should have been a simple cross. Four minutes later though we levelled again with C.Mitchell heading in from a C.Flanagan corner after T.Whitmans initial effort was tipped round the post. With six minutes remaining in the game I was forced into a change as C.Howard picked up an injury and was replaced by A.Brown

Worcester 3 C.Smith 1, A.Holgate 39, A.Warlow 73

Alfreton Town 3 T.Whitman 30, 55, C.Mitchell 77

After the game the physio informed me that C.Howard will be out for around 1-3 weeks after gashing his leg

April 28th: Barrow (H) (42/42)

The final game of the season was in truth a real dire affair with both my side and the Barrow side not having anything to play for an it showed in the play. In the first half there wasn’t any sort of what you could call football being played. The second half was seven minutes old when I was forced into a change as A.Brown came on for the injured A.Burbeary. The half was much the same as the first and on the 74th minute I made another change with A.Tiday coming on for J.Moore. What a dire way to end the season

Another injury with A.Burbeary out for around a month after twisting his knee early in the second half

Scarborough – Deducted 10 points at start of season

Season Review: A decent season in truth and the board are happy with the fact we weren’t in the relegation battle towards the end of the season. Our injury problems towards the end of the season could have cost us but a half decent start of the year helped us a lot. My aim to get a lot of the players and staff onto professional contract is almost complete. The board has stated that I will have some money to spend when the window opens.

June 6th: I have decided to release J.Palmer and J.Moore from their contracts at the club. I didn’t see them progressing enough at the club and weren’t going to feature in my plans next season

June 15th: My first signing of the pre-season sees Abdelhalim El Kholti joining us on a free, he is a 28yr old D/WBL Moroccan

June 17th:b Transfer news sees 19yr old English DRL Danny Hodnett joining us from Worcester for £1,000

June 18th: Ben Moss has joined us from Hucknall for a fee of £1,000, He is a 17yr old English AML

June 20th: The fans have spoken and T.Whitman has been named as the Fans Player of the Year. The board have announced that the club has turned professional and that this has given me a little more money to play with in the transfer market

June 25th: Injury news sees C.Mitchell out for around 3-4 weeks with a back strain which means he will miss the majority of the pre-season

July 1st: The first friendly of the pre-season sees us losing heavily 4-0 to Welsh side Carmarthen, no positives at all from the games

July 3rd: Another heavy loss with Airbus doing us over 3-0 with none of my players seemingly bothered

July 6th: Disgusting is all I can say as Newtown thrash us 6-0. After the game I kept my players in the changing room for a hour or more telling them that this was not the way I wanted us to perform.

July 9th: Finally a performance by the players, even though we lost 1-0 to TNS I was happy with the way we performed

July 15th: Our next friendly sees us losing 4-0 to Scottish side Gretna, we were doing well but T.Whitman got himself sent off and it went tits up after that

However on a lighter note I made another signing as I splashed out £35,000 on Crystal Palace's reserve player Charlie Sheringham, he is a 19yr old English striker

July 17th; Another friendly and another sending off as R.Clarke was dismissed in the 58th minute as we went down 4-0 to Dunfermline. At this rate I'll have no players available at the start of the season

July 19th: Finally we managed to secure a victory as C.Sheringham scored the winner against Forfar

July 21st: More disciplinary problems for the team as T.Whitman earn't another red card early in the second half as we went down 3-0 to Kilmarnock. As this is his second red so far in the pre-season I have fined him a weeks wages, he has apologised and accepted the fine

July 23rd: The FA have informed me that T.Whitman will be banned for a further two matches for his sending off against Gretna and R.Clarke will miss an extra match for his sending off against Dunfermline.

July 26th: We now faced local rivals Matlock Town and didn’t really turn up and lost 1-0

July 29th: Our next match against a local rival sees us facing Chesterfield and we put in an excellent performance as we drew 1-1 with M.Gulliver scoring our goal

July 31st: We now faced Derby County and lost 3-1 despite a decent performance, R.Clarke scored our goal very late in the games

August 2nd: We now faced Belper Town in a FMS Cup Semi final game. We played out a 3-3 draw with C.Sheringham grabbing a brace and D.Hodnett scoring. We went through to the final 4-3 on penalties. In the other Semi Final Stocksbridge beat Buxton Town 2-0

August 3rd: We won the FMS Cup as we beat Stocksbridge 3-0 with two more goals from C.Sheringham and a goal from C.Mitchell. The third place play-off saw Buxton beating Belper on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

We now have eight days till we face our first competitive match of the season. Lets hope our season is better than the pre-season which was all in all disappointing

August 6th: I made another signing with 24yr old Ghanian DC Will Antwi joining us on a free
