Q2thaz Posted July 22, 2008 Share Posted July 22, 2008 The History Goal-Kick was originally founded in the Summer of 2005 by Vilius and Cammack amongst others. With those two behind the scenes GK became one of the biggest sites around for more than two years. Unfortunately, thanks to This fool GK was obliterated and had to be rebuilt from the ground up. With no back ups, no hosting and initial uncertainty as to where to go and what to do, Q. set about the rebuilding process. Anyone that has visited lately will still notice that it's in transition still but is slowly coming out of the "stability stage". The Present What we do: Well that's a very good question, what do we do? Well most of the time we spend gloating about our games in the current game section which we feel is much more useful/fulfilling than the usual 2 post threads consisting of a screenshot and the title "OMG". Once we've got bored of these games we upload them to our "Saved game database" and play swapshop to either improve on how other members have got on or just generally to ruin their reputation for fun! The final 2 pieces in our forum Battle armour are "Feed Central" where we hand pick RSS feeds from around the community directly on to the forums. Hopefully this feature will grow in time to become a discussion area for articles and help aid the usual community discussion threads that always seem to end in "our forum is better than yours". Lastly but by no means least is "The Scouting Network". A revolutionary idea from the mind of Q. to stop the usual rot in the "players forum" by banning "I'm rubbish at this game, tell me who to buy" to a sub forum. The scouting network is intended for people to get a second opinion on a player that they have found rather than getting someone to find the players for them. But wait, you haven't mentioned the mainsite. That's because the mainsite has an identity all of it's own and we aim to keep it that way. Taking the well known relaxedness of GK, the seriousness of a FGN style article site mixed with a bit of Q./Wazzar humour and we believe we have a winning formula. We've recently begun to add a few extra features including an integrated wiki (only added yesterday so don't expect too much yet!!), an on site imagehost and a fledgling downloads section. We also now host Levo's Life in FM blog style site bringing you a regular updated insight to some of craziest ideas made into FM games!! What we don't do: Now this is a much easier question to answer, we don't do Spam or Llama's, mainly because we heard that a tin of spam is 85% Llama meat!! Scouting is an important part of FM and G-K would like to help everybody in their quest for finding the ideal 11 for their respective teams. Player Forum Started by Skacel, the shortlists threads are close to an end. Please select your favorite Strikers! Well I am not the best when it comes to making databases, but I have decided to try my hands on them.. We have 4 threads where you can select your favorite players from continents. Pick your European team, American, Asian and African! Trademark is a nice guy, but sometimes even the bests need help.. Help him pick his St Helens team! Scouting Network A section with potential, as some say.. Well it has some new features now and you are expected to contribute to them. Help out Q on this, as this seems to be his only project that actually works! The first thing you could do, is obviously getting served! Make Osgood take a screenie and upload it, here! You can also create threads for basically each of your findings, but if you consider them to be less important, you can just put all of them in the same thread. These threads have just been revamped, make sure you check them out! Skacel Posted September 1, 2008 Share Posted September 1, 2008 First off we kick off with the news that Laserspewpew beat off stiff competition from JC and Raul in Augusts Member of the Month, it was a very close competition right until the death, then lasers pulled 4 votes cleared and it was all wrapped up at that point Little bit of bad news to follow though, we've managed to let Eastwood resign from our staff team aswell as Osgood, both have been great for GK over the past few months and both will be missed by staff and members alike. At this present time the current staff team isnt looking to make any new additions, but take a chance, jump in, get posting and throw your name into the hat and onto the wheel of fortune. Who knows? By this time next week you could have the job of writing up something no one reads past the third paragraph then they all say "yeh good month, nice update but what about the thread I made this month" If you should be so lucky that is Forums as a whole its been going very good for us, we've had nice posting figures and a lot of new members coming through and on the forums you can really sense the anticipation for FM09, our FM Sections are thriving and not many sites can rival our FM posting, FM staff and FM knowledge, so if youre after someone else to tell you how to play your game then dont hesitate to drop into GK and get posting! On the Mainsite front we've been trying to update it but not a lots going due to it being August and everyones winding FM08 down, however we've found the odd bit of garbage to claim as content and we've chucked it up on the site, in the near future expect to see a few new features on the Mainsite from Interviews to Naked Pictures of the staff we are open to anything. Current Game wise we are now offering to host your Current Games on our Mainsite if you are interested then check out this thread and follow everything in there, hopefully we'll be seeing your managerial exploits up on the Mainsite. Also drop in and check a few of our Vs Threads where our members go all out in Offline FM wars playing as clubs and trying to out so each other, get stuck in if you feel up to it! Players wise check out our Player Awards where our members voted for their favourite players in various threads so drop into this thread and see the scores on the doors, then take a side tour to the Tactics Forum and have a look at our TnT Directory and see the various going ons from our Tactical advice threads to the odd decent post. As for FM GFX enter our GFX Directory which lists all our FM GFX, kits, logos, facepacks, skins the whole shabang! In the saved games department check out our Arsenal 03/04 Unbeatables db that lets you play as that team, click here for that and why not drop in on the GK FC Database anf finally hit the African Dream Team and take on the world and his missus! From a writing perspective this month we've had three real stand out pieces of content, the first is a Guide to Attributes from Leigh, give it a read and say whether you agree or disagree with him! Second up we have a guide to Getting The Most From Pre-Season from GK's own Skacel, its a nice little read that shines some light on something that most FM Players pay to attention to. Finally, we leave the best until last, we have a superb insight into FM's Match Engine from Computer Man, this is an absolute MUST read for anyone out there. Away from FM we have some very exciting things going on, Premier League Manager, Fantasy League and our Predictions Game, hey maybe you could even try to decide on your Player and Manager of the Month? So make sure you pop in and visit us, feel free to leave any comments, ideas or thoughts over on the forums and we'd love to see you all over at GK posting and adding to the great banter and discussion that GK already thrives on. Maybe even a few of you will stick around longer than a week, then again, maybe not And thats it from Goal-Kick and its amazingly lazy Staff Team, prepare to be let down!
