My big fat 10 Tier Scottish Pyramid Restructure

Nichevo

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've just finished a first pass at a Scottish league restructure to a regional pyramid model (based on the latest official database). This is actually something currently under discussion by the SFA and non-league setups in Scotland at this time (but not to the extent here!).

The beta version is available now below. I've also made a few other (hopefully interesting) changes listed below too, any comments/corrections/suggestions and improvements are most welcome.

*********************************************************************

You can Download the Beta 1.05 from MediaFire:

New Version:

Removed Rangers transfer embargo.

Nichevo's Scottish League v1.05b

Last Version:

**Important** Fixed playoff bug to third division, the game seemed to pick the highland league team to playoff against the bottom placed third division team irrespective of who won the regional premier playoffs, I have switched the playoff system to a mini league involving the winners of each regional premier and the last placed third division team. Note prior to this version 1.04b, the playoff system between non-league and third division will not function accurately.

Fixed Transfer window spam, Added more teams to the South regions and set number of rounds for all new leagues so there are around 30-36 games in each league.

Added actual kit colours (thanks google) for all new teams. Also fixed attendances for SPL u18's teams playing in the lower leagues.

Notes:

I havent added any extra players/staff yet for the new lower divisions, so its worth ticking the generate staff and generate players box when starting the game.

Change Log

==========

Changes:

1. Rangers - transfer embargo added from April 2012 - April 2013

2. Rangers - added small state debt to represent simply HMRC case.

3. Added new language, Scottish Gaelic.

4. Scottish National language rule updated to include 1% Scots Gaelic in addition to 100% English.

5. Added approximate population statistics for Scottish regions.

6. Added the following Scots Gaelic speaking cities: Steòrnabhagh (Stornoway), An Tairbeart (Tarbert), Port Rìgh (Portree) to Highlands and Islands region.

7. Restructured lower leagues into pyramid tiers and added all cups (plus new amateur cup) (details below)

8. Added new team, Team: Na h-Eileanan Siar (Western Isles) to the amateur leagues, mostly for my own personal enjoyment. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Isles_representative_football_team)

9. Added ground for Na h-Eileanan Siar, Chnoc Nan Gobhar Pàirc (Goathill Park) in Steòrnabhagh (Stornoway)

10. Added approx populations for ALL Scottish Cities and Regions.

11. Added Hutchison Vale F.C. and Duns A.F.C plus facilities.

12. Added Regional boundaries for all Regional leagues to ensure teams relegated from 3rd division to non-league go to the correct division.

13. Added following weekly/monthly/yearly awards for every new division:

. Manager of the Year

. Player of the Year

. Team of the Year

. Team of the Week

. Manager of the Month

. Player of the Month

14. Set season ticket price and ticket price for each club below the Third Division, as most clubs originally didnt have these values set season tickets were a tenner and tickets cost 50p which was causing some clubs financial troubles with match day expenses, hopefully these changes will even things out, however we should expect a number of clubs to be in financial difficulty, as they are in real life.

15. Fixed and staggered all Prize Moneys, for all new competitions using real world data where possible.

16. Reworked Rangers Debts (including debts to the listed clubs), incorporating the following info:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-17628749

The largest estimated combined amount, more than £93m, is to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Currently, the largest established unsecured creditor is private finance firm Ticketus, which is owed £26.7m.

Debenture owners - fans who loaned money to the club - are owed £7.7m

And taxpayer-funded bodies also owed money include: Strathclyde Police (£51,882), Scottish Ambulance Service (£8,438), Culture and Sport Glasgow (£10,338), Glasgow City Council (£7,000), Argyll and Bute Council (£406), and Edinburgh City Council (£90).

The report also reveals that Rangers owe more than £2.3m to 12 football clubs in Scotland, England and throughout Europe.

Playing staff

Domestically, Rangers owe: Hearts (£800,000), Dunfermline Athletic (£83,370), Dundee United (£65,981), Celtic (£40,337) and Inverness Caledonian Thistle (£39,805).

English clubs are also owed more than £700,000. This breaks down as: Manchester City (£328,248), Chelsea (£238,345) and Arsenal (£136,560).

European clubs are also owed more than £1.6m, including Rapid Vienna (£1,011,763), St Etienne (£252,212), Palermo (£205,513) and Orebro (£150,000).

17. Changed transfer windows in the amateur tier didnt work so reverted them back to normal, if you are an amateur team you can lose good players 6 months after you aqcuire them to professional teams.

18. Shored up finances and attendances of some clubs which had 0 attendances and insecure finances

19. Added real life max squad size regulations to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Non League, Junior and Amateur leagues.

20. Switched all large club reserve teams and large club u19's playing in Non-league/Junior leagues to u18's for balance reasons.

21. These large club's u18's playing in Non-league/Junior leagues will now be able to reach their respective regional non league premier's but be unable to progress further up the league structure into division 3, this essentially removes the junior leagues promotion restriction for Rangers and Celtic u18's.

22. Flesh out the South Regional leagues by adding: Pencaitland, Chirnside, Gala Rovers, Hawick Legion, Leithen Rovers, Langholm Leg, West Barns St, Hawick Wav, Selkirk Victoria, Ancrum http://bafl.leaguerepublic.com/

This has increased South non league division one to 10 teams (4 rounds), South Junior premier to 8 clubs (4 rounds), South Junior Division one to 8 clubs (4 rounds) South Junior Division Two 8 clubs (4 rounds)

23. Fixed the non league third division playoff

24. Fixed the transfer windows, no more spam.

25. Reworked number of rounds for the leagues so there are now around 30-36 games a season in each new division.

26. Added actual kit colours (thanks google!) for all new teams.

27. Removed Rangers transfer embargo.

Note: Seems if you select Nationality: Scottish on game creation you will speak both Scots Gaelic and English in game!

New Version available changes detailed above but sorted out Rangers debt as per BBC article above, reworked ticket prices for the new lower league clubs and streamlined/staggered prize money for all new competitions.

I'll give this a go a bit later tonight.

Scratch that, download link isn't working.

Hmmm, just checked, seems I need to right click the "click here" and select "save as..." to save the xml link otherwise it will load the xml up in the browser, I'll try zipping the xml file before uploading and put it up again.

Edit: Added the new zipped download link above and downloaded successfully, sorry for the problems, hopefully it'll be working for you now.

This is really interesting, I play for an Scottish Amatuer club and looking at the teams you have down in that area, got to say don't recognise any of them. Saying that though their is litteraly 100's of them so difficult to choose. Have been wanting to re-start with a new set up of 3 divisions, i.e Premier League of say 3 leagues of 18, which would mean bringing in some of the Highland and Non Pro teams, i.e Spartans and other teams you have in the Superior Non-League. My only concern doing this though is that I think I would have to add teams and then re-set leagues..

Did it take long to set all this up??

Wasnt a vast amount of time involved but there was a bit of effort. The good news is most of the clubs are there already for you and many leagues as well, the most time consuming part was moving the teams around and adding awards for each new division, oh adding the nation rules took a bit of time too.

If you are looking to restructure the main leagues into say all 4 divisions into 18 teams, or just the SPL, then you wont need to add any clubs. You essentially need to create new nation rules from scratch (you cant modify existing leagues otherwise), add the SPL, First Division, Second Division and Third division, then move 8 up from the first etc.. then the clubs from the teams in the Highland league, South of Scotland and East of Scotland leagues into the third. If you need more teams then the next leagues down are the West Junior Superleagues. It helps to plan everything out before hand too. Also I found this page very helpful:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_in_Scotland

You will also have to add rules ect for each division, dates and transfer window, prize money etc, but you can boot up standard game of fm 2012 in window mode and look at the relavant league rules to find these out.

Another possibility is modifying my version above to your needs, you would need to go into the nation rules and delete the tiered regional leagues and non-league amateur, junior cups, then move the higherst rep teams into the corresponding divisions you want, change the number of times each team play each other and any other rules you fancy, edit any effected senior cups etc.. please feel free to modify my efforts if it would suit your needs.

How can i edit and move the teams up and move Rangers down it wont let me?

You need to open up the editor load my xml and then search for club rangers, if you select the club you should see a field callled division select the serach tab next to it and type the name of the division you need, in this instance say "Highland League", then select the division, Rangers will be moved, however it would be advised to rejig the SPL so it has 12 teams again.

haha Rangers embargo aint lifted yet and it works.

Oh did the embargo work for you? Were Rangers AI controlled at the time also? I've played two games past the embargo point and AI controlled Rangers have always bought players in my games, bit confused now :D

Gotcha I'll take it out when I get some time later in the week, thanks for the feedback :)

EDIT*

Embargo removed, sorry for the delay playing DayZ at the moment :D

Hi Nichevo, well done on a great db I'll definitely give it a go. Do you know how what level the Greater Glasgow Premier First Division is? Third Lanark play in that league and it would be great to see them in the game. Thanks

Hi Adam,

Unfortunately the Greater Glasgow Premier First Division is an amateur league thats just below the last tier level available to me that I morphed into the regional amateur leagues so unfortunately Third Lanark Athletic are not in the game at all at this current time. Do not be downhearted however! As it should be a simple enough task to add them to the game yourself, there are a few tutorials on you tube

https://www.google.com/search?q=adding+a+new+club+fm+2012+tutorial

Describing how to do this if you currently lack the expertise with the editor to do so. Additionally I am more than happy to help or answer questions you may have on such editing. I would suggest picking a club in the Strathclyde amateur league to morph into Third Lanark, "Bank Street Athletic" for example. Wikpedia should have all the info you need to fill in team info and colors:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Lanark_A.C.

And then you should be good to go :)

Big applause mate, looks cracking. Ive just spent the last few days editing the Scottish set up but i like the set up of yours alot maybe a little tweek or two with team numbers in each senior league but apart from that well done mate !!

Can you tell me how you managed to alter the tv dates for the games?? When i changed mine to say a saturday evening and 1 on a sunday my game just played them at 3pm on Saturday.

I also edited the League Cup into a national competition but made an error with the foreign players rule, wrecked the game set up and ended up starting again

Thanks mate, on the tv dates, I didnt restructure the spl so the tv dates are unmodified and the spl fixture list remains the same, same with the cups althugh they are restructured, by the time the spl clubs join the cup, fixtures dates for each leg should remain the same as they are in real life, maybe there is bug whereby tv date changes dont happen :(

Oh, if you make any tweaks to this db mod, please feel free to upload them for others.

Will you be updating this to take into account Rangers' current situation and the new transfer embargo?

I'm currently thinking of leaving Rangers as they are for now, the start date and their financial position in the game reflects their position at that time. I'ts certainly open to discussion however.

Yeh again well done, my current league set up is 4 divisions of 16 2 up and 2 down but i'm gona download yours and tweek it around with league sizes. How do you upload your edt for a download??

You need to select somewhere to host your files, I currently use mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/ its free and simple to use, you just need to sign up activate your account and then you can select any files you want from your computer to upload and host on your account. You'll get a link for the file which you can then share with others. Hope this helps :)

cheers mate, ill have a play around. Do you know how to add U19s or reserves into a lower league??

Sure thing, search for a club and go to its club screen, if the club already explicitly has a second/third team then you will see it listed on the left underneath the "Team Cup History" option, if no secondary teams currently exist you can create them by clicking the details tab for the club, at the bottom of the details page for the club you should see a section entitled "Reserve Teams", click "Add" and then select the type of team desired i.e. U18s, U19s, B Team etc.. once added you will hopefully see the new secondary team suddenly show up on the left under the "Team Cup History" option, you can now select the secondary teams own details tab on the left and set their current league etc, dont forget to set attendance to a reasonable sum either, I had the old firm U18s getting 60k attendances at one point!

Note you can add more than one secondary team to a club in this manner just by clicking add again and repeating, good luck!

Was going to do something like this myself for FM13, was collecting league suggested proposals.

Not sure if its possible but I know on of the current East of Scotland sides has been told to build a 1k stand for these proposals. Also believe the premier will be in 2, South and North, then the lower leagues.

Looks a good system.

Yeah the actual proposals from the sfa were to have Highland and Lowland regions, much like the current shinty regional division, I think the Highland league want to keep a top division of 18 though so they are all still in discussions about the best way forward. Some people thought Rangers problems might be the catalyst for change but it looks like some folks are still dragging their heels over having a pyramid system.
