FestyF
..if you are playing with deep defensive line and defensive mentality, the AI players start shooting from all sorts of ridiculous angles and eventually one of them goes in. How to stop that? In real life, you can often see teams parking the bus and the opposition can't take a single long shot all game. How do you achieve that in FM? Basically, how do you play solidly without the ball? (e.g. Inter against Barca)
Ackter
Anchorman for the win.
FestyF
No, I don't want to play an anchor man. Just think about a flat 4-4-2 against a flat 4-4-2 scenario.
Super Bladesman
I think you'd have to have a lot of closing down, and you'd probably have to play on the narrow side too. Ultimately, if I was wanting to stop long shots, I'd probably not sit deep.
Ackter
Yup - the higher you defend, the harder it is for the opponents to get shots off.
FestyF
If you defend higher, that's not 'park the bus'. One solution I can think of is to give DMs and CMs higher mentality so they don't sit too deep and close down aggressively.
Ackter
I always defend from the front - my wingers are even defensive.
robertcornell68
Push up and close down - but don't over-do it or you'll leave holes in your defence and wide open spaces behind them.
