[FM10] Persma Manado: Indonesian Minnows to World Champions and Beyond!

rancer890

Recommended Posts

This career is based on my own Asian challenge. The club is Persma Manado, a small Indonesian club before my arrival was average at best, and haven't won anything. The adventure begins in the Indonesian First Division and I'm already finished the 2016-2017 season so all the updates until then will only be end-of-season updates.

Now, off to post all those updates... :D

Version: FM2010 with the first patch

League setup: Indonesia (to First Division)

Squad

Squad 2

The squad didn't have a lot of players, so I had to sign most of them. One thing they did have though was an abundance of goalkeepers...

Transfers

I didn't sign Imron and Stradilin, but Imron did turn out to be pretty useful to the club. I utilized a lot of loans from my parent club, and will probably do the same next year to minimize costs...

A big profit thanks to a long cup run, end of season award money, and a nice investment by the new chairman. He says he will consider replacing me, but I believe I can stay from the performance I've shown.

Super League

2013-2014

Media Prediction: 18th

Finishing Position: 1st :D

Indonesian Cup: 3rd Place

It was a fantastic season, both in league play and in the cup. We basically led the league after a third of the season, and never looked back. We started off the season well, with a win over a top Super League team Persipura (a very good team IRL), and we started with 6 consecutive wins. The media were doubting our abilities to say on top, but we proved them wrong. We held on all season, and despite a poor stretch of form near the end of the season, we got enough points to clinch the title with 3 games remaining.

Transfers

My first transfer in the Super League, which was to get GK Imran Iskandar, paid immediate dividends at the club, replacing my old GK. Hendra Ridwan is now my 3rd striker (5 goals, 3 assists, 6.77 rating). Rahmad Suwondo was my main midfield backup (0g, 3a, 6.76). Djoko Saputro (1g, 1a, 6.91) is a young left back with a good future at the club.

Super League

2014-2015

Media Prediction: 4th

Finishing Position: 1st

Indonesian Cup: Lost in 4th Round

Asian Champions League:

When the groups were announced, I was already pleased with just participating in the competition and hopefully not losing every game by 5 goals. Urawa Reds are always a tough team, as well as Pohang. I played in China long enough to know that Guangzhou should be a team where I can get a point or two, since they're not at the level of Shandong, Shenhua or Beijing.

Here is the game by game scores of the 6 group matches:

Game 1 - Persma 2-1 Urawa Reds - we were deemed to have absolutely no chance of winning, but I was surprised to win in the end.

Game 2 - Pohang 3-0 Persma - back to reality in our trip to South Korea...

Game 3 - Guangzhou 0-3 Persma - a shocker. We embarrass Guangzhou in China...

Game 4 - Urawa Reds 0-0 Persma - we surely have to lose...but we draw the Japanese side in front of nearly 50,000 spectators!

Game 5 - Persma 4-0 Pohang - we lost in Korea 3-0. We surely can't win against the Korean side at home right? No, we actually win 4-0...

Game 6 - Persma 2-0 Guangzhou - we haven't clinched the group yet, so a good result against Guangzhou will give us first place. And we win again.

Final Group Stage Standings

We are tied with Urawa Reds for points, but the first tie-breaker is goal difference, and so we finish 1st in the group and have a home game in the Second Round, against Japanese side S-Pulse.

2nd Round: Persma 2-0 S-Pulse - we took an early lead and we never gave it up!

Our next opponent in the Quarter-Final is unknown, we will probably know when the league resets in a few days.

South East Asian Club Championship:

Just realized that I'm also in this competition. We're in group B with the Filipino Army team and QAF FC of Brunei. We should win this competition...

Super League

2015-2016

Media Prediction: 3rd

Finishing Position: 1st

Indonesian Cup: Winners Final

Asian Champions League:

Our group this year was a bit harder than last year, as we were in a group with Japanese side Frontale, S. Korean outfit Uslan, and a very tough Chinese opponent in Shandong. Here are all the games:

Game 1: Persma 3-0 Ulsan

Game 2: Frontale 2-0 Persma

Game 3: Shandong 0-0 Persma

Game 4: Ulsan 1-0 Persma

Game 5: Persma 2-2 Frontale

Game 6: Persma 2-0 Shandong

After 6 games, this left in 2nd in Group F, which meant we advanced but would have a tough road leg in the Second Round. Our opponents were South Korean side Seongnam,, where we won on penalties. Our Quarter-final opponent is unknown.

The journey to the Champions League title is here.

Nice one, but not being familiar with your challenge, why only the one league?

(Though that's probably just me wanting to run many leagues)

It's challenge rules. You can only load one league. :D

It's like all the other small club to big club challenges in the CSE forum, where you're only allowed to load one league. :)

Now that I have achieved in becoming the best club in the world at one time, I have some new goals...that sound impossible but I already did the near impossible so I don't mind if it takes me a while to achieve it. :D

Some of them include:

  • Persma making the top 100 richest clubs (still US$25 million or so behind 100th, we're best in Indonesia with estimated value of US$19 million)
  • become Continental club (this is definitely achievable)
  • perfect season (we were close last year)

I have a few other goals as well...one of them is trying to find an Indonesian Smylie. :D

Persma 2017 Summer Update

Over the summer, Persma participated in 2 friendly tournaments with the top European clubs.

European Tour League

In a mini league with three of the Big Four English clubs, we managed to secure 2 draws (Chelsea and Liverpool) and 1 loss (Manchester United). The Liverpool result was fantastic considering we were down 3-1 around 80th minute, but goals from Yance Setiawan and a 93rd minute penalty gave us a draw.

Standings

Persma 3-3 Liverpool

Europe-Asia Cup

The cup competition with Real Madrid, Inter, and Juventus. We were drawn with Real Madrid, and prompty lost 3-0. Juve lost to Inter so we would face Juve in the Third Place Playoff, where we narrowly lost on penalties.

Tree

Persma 1-1 Juventus

That's it for now. Need to sleep lol. Later, there will be more updates on the ASEAN (South East Asian Cup) Tournament, and some transfer news too. :)

The tournaments are fun, but the best part is raking in $5 million from those two friendly tournaments. :D

Did you organize these tournaments yourself?

If so, nice job convincing some of the big powers to attend.

Yes I do organize them myself. I did this because I was going into debt, my wage budget was getting slashed, and I wouldn't be able to sign my key players if I went into the red again.

It's actually not that hard. This is my second year organizing these tournaments with European clubs. I arranged them last year.

This was the 'big' tournament from last year. As you can see, I defeated Gremio and Chelsea. I like challenging my club against European powers because of the money and I can actually beat them. :)

The fee is usually $110k (it's greyed out) but if you arrange a league with 3 quality opponents you can get $5 to $6 million while only paying out $330k. Nice profit. You should try it out sometime. :D

2017 ASEAN Championship

Group Stage

This tournament for South East Asian clubs is usually quite easy for the Indonesian sides, and it was definitely a cakewalk for me. These are the elimination rounds of the tournament, and we defeated Selangor of Malaysia in the final

The awards haul:

Goalkeeper of the Tournament

Player of the Tournament

Top Goalscorer

Summer Transfers

Transfers

It was a summer where I left some loyal players go and my starting goalkeeper leave for Mexican club Cruz Azul for $1.7 million and 50% of future transfer fee clause and a friendly. It was a tough decision, but expecting to bleed a bloody load of money this year from being eliminated from the Champions League, I really needed it. Luiz Mendez is a young Argentine GK who is not as good as Ledesma but is good enough for the Indonesian Super League. I have a few free foreigner spots so I signed Mendez, Mamadi Cisse, and Hector Rebola.

League

Standings

Doing well, but pity we gave up 2 goals and lost a game already this season. So much for the perfect season. :D

Very impressive rancer! Only 7 years to complete your challenge, well, part of it. Now onto the international part of it. I'm also impressed with the scalps you captured on your way to claiming the ACL. Not an easy route for you.

The sad thing is I didn't noice Benny Dollo, the Indonesian manager retired, and they replaced him with someone else (and I can say I'm way better than him) without me knowing.

They're already qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Spain, so hoping that they lose and maybe I can apply for the job...

With an Indonesian club, you're always the underdog since you're in a group with a Japanese, Korean, Chinese, or Australian club. I don't find the Japanese or Chinese clubs that intimidating tbh, but I haven't done well against the Koreans. :D

Congrats again on taking Persma to the top (despite those international call-ups). Shame about the national job - where you subscribed to the Idonesian teams news feed? I guess you'll have to hope they flop in the next set of qualifiers. ;)

Why dont you just add a new manager and then retire him ?

Yes I was to Indonesia 'Events' and 'Jobs'. I should have checked after the AFC Qualifiers were done, which was basically the only time in my challenge which I failed to do so after an International competition. :(

And MeLikeFM, I can do that, but I'll have to resign from Persma and simulate 5 years, from my own challenge rules :D, which I don't want to do...

The Indonesian squad is all home grown too, and not a single player is based outside of the country. In my previous attempt with China, half the squad played in Europe.

2018 World Cup in Spain

The groups:

Group A: Sweden (28th), Tunisia (40th), Australia (32nd), Germany (2nd)

Group B: Turkey (17th), Japan (31st), Ivory Coast (15th), Argentina (5th)

Group C: South Korea (39th), Peru (24th), Netherlands (3rd), Croatia (14th)

Group D: Spain (4th), Israel (18th), Costa Rica (53rd), Chile (27th)

Group E: Serbia (19th), Mexico (11th), Cameroon (13th), Brazil (8th)

Group F: Saudi Arabia (34th), Uruguay (12th), England (7th), Portugal (9th)

Group G: Mali (35th), Ukraine (20th), Indonesia (26th), Italy (1st)

Group H: Romania (22nd), United States (29th), France (6th), Ghana (36th)

I'll give an update on the World Cup when the time comes, with specific emphasis on Indonesia. I'm only on January 1st, 2018 now so you can start predicting now. :D

The groups seem predictable, although it'll be tough to predict who's advancing after Brazil in Group E. I do think Indonesia will be tough though, and they have a good chance of advancing. I think in terms of the other Asian clubs, Australia have a good chance of advancing, but Japan, South Korea, and the Saudis will have a bit more trouble.

My predictions:

Group A: Germany, Australia

Group B: Argentina, Ivory Coast

Group C: Netherlands, Croatia

Group D: Spain, Chile

Group E: Brazil, Mexico

Group F: Portugal, England

Group G: Italy, Indonesia

Group H: France, United States
