I usually retrain players, and I do it alot. As I've written before, I have a spreadsheet that shows how well their abilities fit into different roles based.

    Spoiler

This overview I can put into roles and give it based on roles.

This allows me to see how far off a "perfect" player they are. And if they are very high in a certain role, then I will look at it and perhaps retrain. Of course, I can't trust this outright, as players with high physicals will rate high in all roles that require many of the physical attributes, but it can give me some hints where to look.

Very impressive spreadsheet! Might look into something similar to really get invested in to all of my youngsters and not only the best of the bunch every year.

  2. How are you guys that are a couple season in doing with your tactics? Are you trying to shape your youth players in to a existing and successfull(?) tactic or do you switch tactic every other season to better fit your new better players coming up? I've always struggle to decide if I want to stay with a successful tactic when a really good youth player breaks in to the first team and does not properly fit in immediately. Or i'm trying to shape a youth player to early and do not let them develop their strenghts properly because it does not fit my senior team tactic.

  3. Trying this out for a bit and two things have I noticed for my team.

    1. Must have strong defenders with good heading/jumping reach ability and a goalkeeper that is good in the air. First matches I had a really small keeper and got punished severly by teams using the outside of the pitch to put pressure. My defencers were not good enough to keep the forwards away and the keeper was gluyed to the line instead of goiung out to get the ball. A extra plus if your wide defenders are decent at heading/jumping reach as well. I have switched out the keeper and my two centre backs for next season which I hope will fix my defensive problems a lot. But I will continue to investigate how this problem occurs depening on if the opponents have 1 or 2 forwards or IF on both sides.

    2. Using "Work the ball into the box" against smaller teams that don't push their defensive line forward. It keeps the pressure arounbd the opponents box and let my players move forward and a more steady flow of the game for my team at least.

It's a really interesting tactic that I like a lot! Will continue to use this as a inspiration and see if my teaams can wion something with this.

There’s actually a scouting guide on the first page of this thread that myself and do the strand have written over the last few years. It needs updating actually to accommodate the new league system in Spain but it gives you a rough idea. I think on this version I’m scouting la liga, liga 2 and scouts assigned to both the 3rd and 4th tiers also. I then assign a scout to the under 19s league, one in France under 19s and also have one floating around Europe to pick up any stragglers. I don’t intensely scout other parts of Europe because so few basque youngsters appear it’s not really worth it, if they’re good you can usually find them in player search anyway. I have an appropriate scouting package to allow for that.

Staffing wise I always try to keep a local feel to the staff but I don’t prioritise that above having the best available staff, especially in terms of coaching at all levels because it’s so important to give your players the best chance of development.

I must have missed that guide but it was very helpful. In coaching tearms I believe I would do something similiar. I find it hard to keep the players happy with training with bad coaches this year.

  5. I have made a few changes but still missing something it feels like in the tactic.

BWM to CM(D). My BWM conastantly got bad ratings and it felt like the player did not contribute in the short passing game. Wanted a more involved player in the middle to shift sides.
Left back to defense. Felt like the opposition used my left flank to easily when going round the flanks. This may be changed back when i get a new leftback that does not "hug line" and "goes forward when possible". When he plays and hugs line the oppostion run inside of him to score easily.
DLF to CF(S) and removed stay wider. MY player got to isolated and the flank and did not score. He made crosses as assist and that wa about all he contributed with.

Thinking about set my AM to PI "Shoot less" to force him to make som deadly passes instead.

@crusadertsarwould love a thread about your tactic above. Looks really interesting.

  6. Season 2

Managed to buy a few very good players in Ricky-Jade Jones, Clarke-Salter, Zach Muscat and John Swift. Had a good start to the season with Swift and Jones as very good partners up front. Was in the top 6 places the majority of season and in the lead at one point. Unfortunately the team crashed at the end of the season and left us at a third place but still playoff opportunities. After a chrushind 3-0 defeat to Ipswich in the first leg after Dylan Williams got 2 yellows cards and draw a penalty in 30 seconds apart I thought it was over but we managed to win the second playoff match with 4-1 but went out after penalties. A very tough season that looked so bright.

    Season 3

A big turnover of players during the season but it didnt matter. We dominated the league from first round until the end. It was never close that any other team catched up to us.  Had a very good goal difference despite lacking a rock solid defence. Tweaked the tactic this year to be more offensive. Will probably have to fix the denfece in PL next year.

Best players were Ricky-Jade Jones, Sibley, Clarke-Salter and a brazilian cb Thuler. Peart-Harris on loan from Brentford with 16+10 is a personal favorite. Hoping to keep him next year aswell. Rodak was a big step up from Roos and Allsop who had declined a lot between the seasons. Burnely let him go for only £1,7M which im grateful for.

Ricky-Jade Jones finished with 35 goals in 36 apps in the league. Adding to his 28 goals in 35 matches from last season. Still he misses a lot but outscores his xG for sure.

Thanks for sharing, @3rik and congratulations on avoiding relegation.

Yes, scoring goals with the small number of strikers - two aging ones, plus inexperienced youngsters - is a challenge in FM22 as it has been in real-life. Keeping them fit too. I think, in real-life, Sam Baldock has missed more games through injury than he’s actually played.

Sounds like your change of formation and the addition of Bolingi we’re great decisions.

Although most people report takeovers, I have seen a minority of people reporting no takeover and the finances got resolved internally to come out of Administration and end the transfer embargo. This may be what’s happened on your save. Are you out of Administration? I assume the transfer embargo has been lifted if you were able to sign Bolingi in January.

    Good luck 🍀 next season!

Yes i'm out of administration, I got a message in around november that the embargo had been lifted. Now my chairman loves the club so he probably staying.

Managed to get to safety in the last round after a terrible start to the season. Changed to a 5-2-3 about 2/3 in to the season and it saved the contract in the end. Had ver ybig problems with scoring all season and my strikers got injured all the time. Managed to loan in Bolingi from Antwerp in january and he scored 9 in 14 matches. Otherwise it was quite a rough season all along with no takeover(?). My chairman fixed new finances somehow and now i'm in decent economic situation before the second season. About £9M and 10k per week avaible  with about 8-10 decent players needed to strenghten the squad.

  9. I agree with diLLa88.

Ajax does not buy talents that are in bigger leagues like Damsgaard for big money. However they have bought players for big money ex. Haller but he is proven quality in the Eredivisie.

Ajax have turned a lot towards South America and Mexico for signings the past years. I would start there along with Scandinavia and maybe send atleast one scout to East Europe.

  10. Quit the save in Cukaricki Stankom after 3-4 months. Can't really pinpoit why but felt wrong. Maybe to easy of a challenge. I always get stuck in the same plays with a team with good youth and the team is quite good right away making it all about scouting for regens from the second season and the results comes anyway because of a good team.

Have had a Youth Academy only save in Sweden as well, and it was fun but got repetitive after 6/7 seasons when your teams reputation gets higher and you are to depened on getting stars every season.

Have made a pause with my NEC save after getting 3rd in Eredivise in the second season and now the save feels quite done despite not winning the league. The challenge was to easy maybe?

What can i do to take on a different challenge? Bilbao or something like that? A big team that needs to win right away?

At Fenerbache I had Ozil as AP(A) & Samatta AF(A) with an IW(S) & W(S). If you have an  IF(A) you're kind of asking him to be a main scorer so with an AP(A) & IF(A) you're be getting into the no 9 position

So changing my CF to a F9 then? Should i also remove the "pass into space" then? To make the players play more via the AP?
