Glad to be of help! :D FM is so dynamic that anything can change even after a month!

Is Ranieri the player with all 11s at the start of the game? He seems familiar and I can't recall where I've seen him from before.

Must be related to WC year since the season is starting earlier?

You actually went ahead of me now as I haven't play for a few days and still stuck in May/early June

Yes, I think that's Ranieri. I signed him from Fiorentina, and he may be on loan at Ascoli in the first season. He does a very good job for me as a BPD, and he was my signing and player of the year last year.

I think you are right about the World Cup, hadn't given that a thought. But that must be the reason.

  2. My transfers spree is all but done. I managed to secure Fausto Vera ahead of Juventus and Manchester City, which was quite the coup for me! He does however take up no less than 25.1 percent of our total wage budget, but his value is also four times that of my second most valuable player. He's still rated at five stars in CA and PA, and I'm not sure I've ever seen that before. Says something about the general level of my players as well, I guess...

I am staving off some clubs who are interested in Luca Ranieri and Gabriele Rolanda. Udinese came in with an loan offer for Ranieri with an obligation to buy for €8.25M, but I rejected it, as I had paid more myself just a year ago.

I have spent my transfer funds, but I have asked my board to sign André Anderson, and they have had a bid of €3M accepted, which looks promising. I just hope they offer him a decent contract, and still manage to beat out Sassuolo for his signature. If not, 17 year old Bruno Varano will be my starting AMC next season. If my board pulls this transfer off, I will have saved €14M compared to the clause in his loan last year, just as @quee suggested!

I have signed a young Argentinian named Mateo Palavicini, whom Manchester United were also interested in. So I ended up giving ham quite a salary for an 18-year-old, and to (try to...) circumvent the rules for foreign players, he won't arrive until next summer, as I couldn't clear out a  non-EU spot.

My assistant has only scheduled a single friendly this summer, so my team is in horrible shape, so I curious as to what their level of play will be once the season starts in a week. I have also changed my captain. Simone Corazza hardly ever plays for me, so I have promoted Eric Garcia from vice-captain to captain, and I have promoted Luca Ranieri to vice-captain.

We have to keep in mind that I am playing on Touch so my intakes are considerable smaller. However, from the first one with have a ST which our staff rate at 4.5 potential, and a couple of 3s (DC and ST). Will keep them in the reserves together with the ones I bought and see how they develop till they turn 17-18 and then decide if I loan them out or give them game time myself. Oh, and  interesting thing two Chinese guys in the intake (guess Zhang got his boys in there) but they are pretty much useless.

I hadn't thought of that! They have just given Conte the sack on my game, and I really wanted that job, but I wasn't mentioned in the media, and decided not to pursue it. The same goes for Milan as they fired Rafa. Inter hired Diego Simeone, and Milan hired Allegri. Napoli have hired Mourinho. Not a lot of chances for me with names of that caliber.

The club has just had a small reputation boost, and now only seven Serie B clubs enjoy a higher reputation than my Reggina side :D

  4. I've finished my first season in Serie A, and it all ended with my Reggina side in third place, which I am very pleased with!

Juventus won the title again, as Lazio drew against Cagliari on the third to last matchday of the season.

Sadly, Dany Mota didn't become capocannoniere, as he scored 21 goals, just as Immobile did. But Immobile did it in one less appearance, and thus won. That feels kind of empty, but still a great year for my Portuguese hitman.

I've now made it to transfer season, and I have a lot of holes to fill. André Andersons loan is expiring, and with an optional future fee at €17M and a transfers budget of only €14.5M, it looks like a longshot to make that signing permanent. The only other loan player, I would consider making a bid for is Harrison Marcelin, but he looks far too expensive for me.

I have decided that both wingbacks and one of my central midfielders (either my BtB or DLP) needs improving. I doubt I will sign two wingbacks, but especially Pietro Beruatto just doesn't cut it for a club in the Champions League. I have had a look at Fausto Vera for my central midfield. My scouts rate him at a perfect 100, and he is being chased by Chelsea, Manchester City, and Juventus, so I will have to move pretty decisively if I want him, I think. He is an Argentine international, and I suspect I will be able to flip him for a nice profit if he has a good year.

I am considering going to a 4-2-3-1 next year, both to accommodate Bruno Varano on the left wing, but also to give my self some extra depth in central defence, I just really like my 3-5-2.

I have brought in Chumi from Barcelona B on a free transfer, so that leaves my with two or three holes to fill, and I have €7M to do so, if I sign Vera. Wish me luck...

WOW! The best original regen (that came through your own academy) in this thread I've seen so far. Getting 1.5* is good, but 2* regen straight-away is rare! Will he go straight into your first team?

Yeah, not sure I've had someone quite like him, either.

He will, but I am not sure how. I don't use wingers, but I don't know if I should train him as an advanced playmaker. I don't won't to ruin him, but it would be nice if he fit a bit better into my team.

  6. We are 29 games into Serie A, and while we are no longer top of the league, this year has still been better than I could have hoped for. We had a rough five game stretch around Christmas with no wins, but other than that the usual January slump hasn't really hit us (yet...).

I've just had my youth intake, and I've had my first golden generation. No less than nine players with at least a three star (two gold + one black) potential, six of them with at least a star and a half current potential, and with Bruno Varano as the star of the show. Really promising.

I'm torn between that and keeping him and giving him playing time as much as I can. Does not help a lot with the decision that Lautaro is being unsettled in the summer by Barca and Liverpool (who just won CL again).

If Martínez if off anyways, I would keep him. I've never had him myself, but he looks like he could be a world class player on my save. Besides, he's homegrown and Italian.

Any target which club in particular?

I was hoping for one of the Milano clubs, as I've managed Juventus before. But we'll see where it takes me. Milan have just hired Rafa Benítez, while Conte is still in charge at Inter, who according to my scouts have an endless line of talents in their U18 squad.

Nice work picking up Ranocchia on a free, he was fab for me in my Brescia save.

How did you use him? I can't quite figure out if I like him as my BtB or my DLP. I am actually training him to be a libero, as I had too few central defenders before Massimo signed Harisson Marcelin on loan from Monaco.

  10. I've accidentally played a season and a half ahead of my last update, and I have made it to the Serie A with my Reggina side.

I've spent a fortune this summer. I had a transfer budget of €4,320,000, but have spent a whopping €16,250,000 with a lot of the cash flowing from the following years in installments. Never really done that before, but I saw no other way of strengthening the squad. I've sold players for a measly €3,500,000, but haven't really lost any true quality players - expect my one newgen player in defense (Alessandro Bombardieri), as I somehow renewed his contract without adding years... He went to Bologna for free, which stung quite a bit.

So far things are going really well in Serie A (after five games, we where undefeated with a 8-0 goal differential). We just lost against Lazio, but that was only my second defeat of the year, and we are ahead of Juventus and Lazio and leading the league after 16 games (though Lazio have a game in hand, and have just beaten me)!

I have bought Eric Garcia from Manchester City (I had him on loan last year in Serie B, and he was on the transfer list), and I have loaned André Anderson from Lazio with a optional fee of €17M next year, which I intend to redeem, if I can afford it.

I've also bought Luca Ranieri and signed Dany Mota and Filippo Ranocchia from Juventus, and both are doing really well. Mota has scored 9 goals from 16 matches, and I'm so happy I decided to bring him in.

My goal for this save is to take over one of the big Italian clubs, and I hope one of them will come calling this summer, but my reputation just isn't very high as is.

What was his starting value before that? Thought it had jumped all the way from low amount to 100m

Does look like a tasty player, shame about the jumping reach!

I paid €28M for him. Not quite the fairy tale I made it out to be. I thought I paid far less than that!

EDIT: To be clear: The screenshot is almost ten years after I bought him.

  12. 1 minute ago, Weston said:

Wow, he looks insane. How much did you pay for him? Is he a real player? I don't see him in my game but that isn't a newgen face.

He isn't, I've just disabled faces for regens, as I can't stand them. Ruins the immersion for me.

I see I actually paid a fortune for him. €28M.

  13. Just now, quee said:

Wow, how many seasons did that took you?

Unfortunately, I haven't play too far into any seasons lately. I tend to lose interest when it becomes all regens

My best 2 in FM19 is waiting for me to come home :D

It took me less than a season, but he had really good attributes for the role, and must been quite versatile. Playing him regularly in the role, may also have had something to say.

He was from Venezuela, it seems...

I only did it once as well, I think. I had such a great RB regen, who have #7 as his preferred jersey number. So, retrained him as AMR and he excelled. He was already natural at RB, WBR, and MR positions, though, but not AMR.

I did just the opposite, found a fine Colombian winger prospect and retrained him as a DR. He ended up being the world's best right back and worth more than €100M. Quite a succes!

  15. 3 minutes ago, quee said:

IW as a creator could work, not as a dribbler or goalscoring player. But since you're not using the wings, maybe as a DLF or Treq? Or retrain him for the AMC/MC position. His committed description does sound promising and know he will work hard for the team.

Only an opinion, I'm not great at retraining players, so might be able to safely ignore said opinion :D

I've only once retrained a player succesfully, so I am in the same boat as you...

I am considering making him an WBR. He doesn't have the pace, but he has good teamwork, work rate, stamina, and balance.

His marking is not too far off, either (10). If he can learn to cross, he might be half decent for a struggling Serie A side, don't you think?

  16. I have an interesting prospect in my youth ranks. He is currently a right footed AML / ST, and he is described as a "Committed attacking midfielder", despite not being able to play said position. I play without wings, but as he is a five star prospect and has a professional personality, I want to bring him into my team. How would you guys train him? I have something in mind myself, but I am keen to hear what you guys think of his future role and position.

Is Andre Anderson developing well in your save?

Unfortunately 2 unsuccessful loan spells in Serie B in mine seemed to regress his ability and potential a lot. Was looking at bringing him.

I've just attempted to sign him. At first, I declared interest. He then said he was hoping I would make an official bid, as he dreamed of playing for Reggina (who wouldn't, right?), but when I had a bid accepted, he wouldn't even discuss contract details. But he looks like a great, young player :|

  18. REGGINA 1914

We are now at 12 games into my first season in Serie B, and it's been quite a wild one so far.

I had put my mind to building the squad around Franck Koulibaly, but Napoli started sniffing around in the early summer, and even though I rejected all offers from them, Milan eventually swept in and bought him for a fee of up to €6M (with a friendly and 40 percent of the profits from next sale), which my chairman accepted. Didn't sit too well with me to begin with, but I can understand why a newly promoted Serie B club just can't decline such an offer.

I've brought in a some free players: Lucera from Palermo on his potential, Beruatto from Juventus for my WBL, Andy King for my central midfield, and Fernando Forestieri for attack. Lucera has hardly played for me, but Beruatto and King are doing well, while Forestieri is behind Colidio upfront. A bit disappointing for a player making €25k a month.

I've also loaned a bunch of players, even though that feels a bit like gaming the game, as I have far more players on loan than I can offer first team football to. Still, that seems to be the Italian way of doing stuff...

A lot of aging veterans have left, but I still have Germán Denis, though he is clearly on his last legs.

I am expected to bravely fight off relegation, but I am doing a bit more, and I am actually in play for a promotion if we can keep up the form. Must be the playout was still playing? I have never heard of the word before playing FM20, tbh. :D

I remember once - some years ago - thinking I had been promoted from Serie B on away goals, only to learn that the team with the better initial league position was favoured in the event of a draw. The Italians sure know how to complicate things.

Yes, so it says. And there are now four teams marked as relegated from Serie B. It was only three before which had me a bit confused. I've been tricked by the promotion setup in Italy many times before :D
