Challenge completed!!!!
So at long last I have finished the challenge. After leaving Iran I couldn’t get another Asian job for another 7 years at which point I took the Iran job again in 2070. Like last time, I was good enough to make the QF but I lost to South Korea 2-1 which was right in line with expectations. Luckily the China job became available and they looked quite the powerhouse. Between then and the next Asian Cup in 2075 I won 2 East Asian Cups and made the QF of the World Cup so I was feeling confident.
As expected, the group stage was pretty easy and won 3/3. Unfortunately first place was a stitch up and got me on the hard side of the draw. The round of 16 was against Qatar I used the occasion to rest my team as well as the last game of the group and won convincing with a 5-0 win. In the QF I drew South Korea and smashed them 3-0. It was a routine win and showed dominance from start to finish. In the SF it was Australia’s time and the first half was very edgy finishing 0-0. Early in the second half in the 50th minute Australia struck. I made a few alterations and I struck back with two goals in the 54th minute and 70th minute to gain the lead. A few scary moments ensued but I held on and got the win in an even game.
One good thing about a hard draw was the final was against an easy team. The Saudi’s proved just this. It took awhile to get the break through but I did in the 43rd minute and from there the goals flowed and I finished up winning 7-0.
So all in all, I finish the challenge in 2075. A bit longer than expected but the club side was finished in 2049 so it’s just these last two tournaments. Next time I’d like to tick off the continental international trophies earlier; especially the ones that only come every 4 years. It’s been great to try a whole bunch of different leagues and nations out. Haven’t played in a lot of these so it’s been cool to experience.

So I entered the 2060 European championship feeling somewhat hopeful of success with Spain.
I had made the nations league final and won all my qualifying games so I knew my squad was good enough against the big sides. Had put some great performances against some rivals.
I started pretty poorly with a bore 1-1 draw against turkey. I then scraped past Israel 1-0 to basically secure qualification. A fully rotated side beat Sweden 3-0 to secure top spot. I kept a similar backup side to breeze past Denmark 2-0. In the QF I drew Holland and won a pretty comfortable 2-0 where the Dutch barely threatened. In the SF it was probably my best performance as I smashed France 3-0. I dominated from start to finish and didn’t really give them a sniff. The final saw me play against world number 2 Italy. I didn’t start well and Italy were pretty dominant against me. Luckily against the run of play my star CAM assisted my star striker to score with my first chance. After this I played pretty well before adding a second in the second half. I was completely gassed but managed to hold on and lift the trophy.
Overall I was very happy with the tournament, not conceding from open play is a fantastic effort.
With this ticked off, I need just the one trophy: the Asian cup. After this I holidayed through to the 2062 WC. None of the big Asian sides had a change of manager but the Iran job was available so I thought I’d run the gauntlet on this and hope for a miracle.
Iran's squad was pretty average but after some friendlies it was clear I was better than the lower ranked sides. I breezed through the group stage winning all 3 games to book a second round spot against Vietnam. I proceeded to beat them 1-0 with a late worldie. Up next was Saudi Arabia; I started well taking the lead 30 minutes in before they scored a long range strike in the 45th minute to equalise. I was the better team in the game until my player got sent off in ET and from there I held on until pens which I lost 4-3. This felt like a missed opportunity as Saudi Arabia really weren't great. Amazingly enough they went on to win the tournament which is even more disappointing to see.
So I resigned after the tournament and am holidaying to the East Asian Cup, WC and Asian Cup trying to get a job at any of the big Asian sides. I am now in 2067 and it is not looking good but fingers crossed I can get one soon.

So I haven’t posted on here for awhile but I’ve come back to hopefully finish this save. I left after finishing the club side of the save and needing the European Championship and Asian Cup.
I took over the French national team with World Cup in 2054. In the leadup I won the nations league for the first time. Unfortunately the World Cup was a bust, I lost in the QF and got sacked.
Luckily the Australian job came available after they had a horrible WC. I was feeling confident heading into the Asian Cup in 2055. Unfortunately I lost to South Korea in the SF 2-1. That was a heart breaker as I dominated the game and then got sacked post tournament.
I holidayed through to the next works cup to see what teams would be available. I took over Portugal to have a crack at the 2056 European Championship. In the leadup, the Nations League ended in a group stage knockout. The qualifiers were easy enough with 10/10 wins.
I had a fairly challenging group with France, former World Champions Bulgaria and XX. I started with a strong 3-0 win over Bulgaria and 1-0 over France meaning I qualified with a game to spare. A fully rested side won 4-0 against Romania to top the group. I got a stitch up of a draw, drawing England the second rank side. I put in a cracker of a performance and won comfortably 2-0. This is as good as I got as I didn’t turn up in the QF against Northern Ireland where I won 3-2 needing a 118th minute ET win. I had the home nation Scotland in the SF and I just didn’t get going and lost 3-0. This one hurts as I really should’ve beat Scotland and the draw bad opened up so I would’ve had Belgium in the final. Portugal wanted me to stay in but I didn’t want to do a full 4 year cycle so I resigned and will see if any jobs come up after the next WC and try again.

If you holiday between selection dates, the next Euros will come round quite soon. There's no rule against holidaying.
Thanks mate. Will definitely be holidaying so you are right it’ll come around quite quick. Probably more a mental thing, international football is a lot less enjoyable than club football so it’ll be a bit of a slog. Will definitely come back to it though and try finish it off.

So I took the job with Maccabi Tel-Aviv with one remit, win a domestic cup. Luckily Israel has one right at the beginning of the season so I bounced between this, Europa League qualifiers and league games. I had some absolute top notch players in my squad, unfortunately one of my gun youngsters got poached. Israel has a severe lack of good players, even for their league so i focused on some free foreign transfers to bolster my squad and fill the gaps.
Cup- as I was in Europe I jumped straight to a qualifier against local rivals; Maccabi Haifa which I won 1-0. To be honest it was a dominant performance away from home against one of the favourites and I knew then my team had enough quality to win. The SF and Final were both straight forward affairs and I got the wins necessary to tick off the domestic cup. I contemplated hanging around to see if I could get out of my Europa League group but in truth I really couldn’t be bothered so I resigned and with that the club side of the save is done. I didn't lose a game in my time there which was quite nice to do.
On the international side of things I took the France job but now I’ve got 4 long years until the Euros. Hopefully I can win so I can finally have a crack at the Asian Cup.
I’m going to take a little bit of a break from this save, I’m itching to do a long term save so I’ve started a new save with Manchester United but with the limitation of only signing British players. Gets way too easy otherwise and I’d love to be able to hang around for a bit. So after my short and unsuccessful Newcastle Jets gig, I got a job at Benfica.
The squad was pretty good overall and had loads of talent coming through. A lot of the players were quite versatile too so it took me half a season to really get to grips to what position for what player and for which players to use.
League- I completely dominated this season and led from start to finish. I had a few early draws away to Porto and Sporting but then went on a big winning streak to extend the lead heading to the halfway point. It was never in doubt from there.
League Cup- Won the group with 3 wins, was able to rotate a bit throughout it. In the SF I drew Porto away from home, the toughest possible ask. It was a pretty even game however I took the lead in the 36th minute. Porto pushed hard but one of my new signings: a 20 year old Greek wonder kid scored a screamer to seal the 2-0 win. In the final I had Boavista and this was a routine 2-0 win. Was very happy to get this one done nice and early.
PT Cup- since the League Cup was already won this didn’t really matter. I was in the SF once the League Cup was won and I had a pretty easy draw with Gil Vicente. I rotated heavily both legs and came out 4-1 winners and never looked in doubt. In the final I drew Sporting which was the last game of the season. It was a dominant display from myself but I couldn’t get the break through. I had a stroke of luck as their player got sent off in the 79th minute. It didn’t take long for me to take advantage of this and I scored 3 minutes later with another new signing, this time a Brazilian wonderkid. I held out to win 1-0.
Europe- I got knocked out of my CL group by a point but qualified for the Europa League. I beat Southampton and then Bilbao but lost to Chelsea in the QF. Drew the first leg 2-2 but played really well, imploded in the second leg and I was out.
It was probably my most dominant domestic season for the challenge. I didn’t lose a game domestically and did the Domestic Treble. I now need one domestic cup for the club part of the challenge to be done.
I went into the European Championships feeling good about my chances. I beat Andorra and Ukraine to qualify for the next stage. In the last game I had France, a win would put me on the better side of the draw so I played a strong side and win 1-0. Annoyingly Germany lost their last group game which meant I had to play them in the round of 16 (instead of France). To make matters worse, the other side of the draw opened right up as Portugal also lost. I beat Germany in ET 2-1 but played England next, a team I regularly lose to. This wouldn’t change and despite the score being 3-2 I was honestly second best and deserved to go out.
Whilst the tournament was going I applied for the Maccabi Haifi job. Israel is way down in terms of League quality but they have two domestic cups which is the most important thing at this stage for me. One cup win and I’m done.
Annoyingly the international side of things is going to drag out as I need Asia and Europe so at best it will be 8 more seasons. Least it’ll only be internationals so I’ll be able to get through it quickly. I don’t know if I’ll get fired yet so I’ll stay with Spain and see what jobs come up.

Do you have any idea if the Israeli Toto Cup is eligible for the challenge? I’ve had a look on Wikipedia and it seems to include all the teams from the top division. I’m only going to take the job if this counts as it is the second domestic trophy there.

So my season with Newcastle was quick.
Results were very average and I slipped from 3rd to 5th in the 5 games I was there. I won my knockout game but lost the prelim to Minor Premiers Western Sydney Wanderers. Annoyingly the FFA Cup is every 2 years and this was the off year which I did not realise until I took the job. So I resigned after the loss and took over Benfica.
All is well with Spain. Won my two first Euro qualifiers. I beat England in the SF of the nations league but lost the final to France. Side is looking good for the upcoming Euros and seem to be on par with the best sides in Europe.

I was after one thing and one thing only this season and that was a domestic cup.
I noticed on my scout report that PSG’s players were coming up cheap and I thought that’s strange. Turns out they were broke and in the middle of a takeover. I duly obliged to bring 3 former players with me for bargain prices. I also brought in Lapasset from Barcelona and I got a new GK.
I won the super cup and the community shield to start the season.
League Cup- first crack at a domestic trophy for the season. I had villa first and then a championship side which led to two easy wins. Up next was Everton and again it was an easy win. In the SF I had Leicester and this turned out to be an all time classic. First leg it was 2-2 at their place which I was ok with due to away goals. I battered Leicester but they scored two crackers to win the first leg 4-2 in what felt like they scored with every shot. In the second leg I was up 2-1 but again completely dominating. Leicester scored to make it 2-2 with 7 minutes left and it looked to be done and dusted. This is where the fun began as I scored in the 90th and 91st minute minute to take to ET. But I didn’t even need ET as I scored again in the 94th minute to book a place in the final.
In the final I had a woefully out of fork Chelsea who were down in 6th and Had lost 4 on the spin. I started beautifully as Lapasset scored in the first half. From there we controlled it really well but couldn’t get the second goal and we were made to pay as Chelsea scored in the 89th minute to send it to ET. In ET, it was the same story as we dominated and the subs made a difference as one of them scored the winner with 10 to go and we held on.
So with England was done and it was time to move on. I didn’t resign immediately as I thought I’d finish the season out (league was a formality) and I’d wait to see if anything came up. It did in April as the Newcastle Jets job came up. They were the defending champions but down in 5th with 7 games to go, had a good run home and could easily make top 2. Regardless they looked a shoe in for finals (top 6) so from there it’s only a few games fo try and win the league. The FFA cup is only 5 games and in pre season so it’s another crack at a trophy. I have no intention of doing the season after so I’ll be in and out in no time. By the time I got the job I was actually in 3rd.

I took over Man City a day after winning the CWC with PSG.
City had somehow finished 7th the season before but had won 2/4 CLs. The squad had some genuine quality however was filled with a lot of rubbish and was very bloated. The squad was about 35 players so it was quite a task keeping up with who to sell, who to loan and so on. By the end of the window I spent 600 million on players and brought in 450 million from sales. I brought in 3 PSG players (2 of whom are also from Brazil), in a rush and were proven quantities. I should’ve brought a 4th in but changed my mind last minute which I’m annoyed I did.
Super Cup- not important to the challenge but i beat Liverpool to give me my second consecutive super cup.
League- this was the main one I wanted this season. Started of really well beating Liverpool away and Spurs at home but then threw away some silly points. I went on a big winning streak of about 12 games or so which opened up a nice lead. By the halfway point, I was 6 ahead of Spurs, 9 ahead of Liverpool and 12+ for the rest effectively getting it to a two horse race with Liverpool an outside shot. I dropped pts over Xmas but everyone other than Chelsea did and from there my lead expanded and I wrapped up the title with 3 games to spare. I lead from start to finish and was never really in doubt. I also broke City’s records for most goals scored in the league, I did this with a few games to go. My record against the big teams was phenomenal as I only lost to Chelsea away, the rest were all wins.
League Cup- I was given a gift of a draw with 3 championship sides and then a very poor Aston Villa side in the SF. In truth I dealt with all these easily and I made the final to vs arch rivals Manchester United. This is where my luck ran out as I got FMed bad. Conceded a free kick in the first few minutes, battered them for 70, got done on the break and lost 2-0 with the shots being about 25-3.
FA Cup- again had a couple of easy early rounds. 5th round was vs Arsenal 3 days after the league cup final. Again I went down early but I managed to create lots of good chances and got the equaliser. I sent it into ET but couldn’t get the break through so pens it was. Unfortunately I lost so we went crashing out of 2 cups in 3 days.
Champions League- wasn’t really a priority but nevertheless we managed fo win it. I was pretty dominant winning every game bar the second leg of my SF which was a 0-0 draw. The final was an epic, I drew Dortmund again who beat me when I was PSG. That looked set to continue as I was down 2-0 within 20 minutes. My young German superstar who I bought this year (and finished top scorer with 35ish goals) scored an absolute peach from 30 yards. Midway through the second half my RW Batista (who I had at PSG and plays for Brazil for me now) equalised and then in the 94th minute he scored the winner with basically the last kick of the game to give me my second CL of the challenge.
Annoyingly, I would’ve traded the CL for the league cup so I could move on 😂. By plan from now is to stay and to win one to the domestic cups. I still need to win 3 different cups and with City I’ve got the best team in the comp and 2 goes at it. I’ve also hit second on the all time list for hall of fame behind Pep. He stayed at city for ages so won’t be catching him. He also has the stadium named after him.
Brazil- won all 18 games of my WC qualifiers. Had one friendly against England which ended 1-1 at their ground so things are looking good. There’s a few older players in the squad but I’ve taken the punt with them rather then binning them off.
I had a fairly straight forward group with Austria and Ghana and despite going down early to Austria, it proved to be so as I finished top with 2 wins. Annoyingly USA came second in their group so I had a difficult first knockout game. We were red hot and scored a few early to ensure the game wasn’t a contest. Up next was Switzerland and again we made light work of them. I was able to make a few changes too to keep the squad nice and fresh. Next game we had England, a team I had historically struggled and was one of the favourites. We started well scoring from a long range shot that hit the crossbar and bounced in off the keeper. That was as good as it got as England battered us and deservedly equalised with 5 to go. ET was much more even and we both had our chances before star winger (Batista, who also scored the winning CL goal) scored in the 110th minute to give us the lead which we held onto. Former team Italy was in the SF, I had beaten them 4-0 in a warmup friendly and I was confident I could do them again. I was the much better side and took the lead twice whilst giving up the lead twice. The game look destined to head to ET before star striker Israel struck in the 88th to give us the lead. I got an injury time Pen to make the final.
I had another former team, France in the final. I started brilliantly and for the first 60 minutes I was completely dominant and had a 2-0 lead. Nerves kicked in as I conceded with 20 to go and then again in the 89th minute. In injury time one of my ageing cm’s (Fabio Rafael) who I decided to take stepped and scored the winner with an outside of the box shot to cap a wonderful tournament for him that justified me taking him and we held on to win the cup. I was happy with the run as I beat 3 times inside the top 5 and 4 in total from the top 10 showing I did it the hard way.
So that capped a fantastic 6 seasons with Brazil as I ticked off two huge tournaments and my challenge is really heading towards the end. I have really enjoyed this part, mainly cause I was in Brazil before so had lots of formers players. Again, 3 players from Corinthians started the final with one on the bench. Two of my Brazilian players have been with me for both my City and PSG successes too. After the final I resigned and was on the lookout for my next job. The South Korea job was insecure but it never came up. Nevertheless I applied for the Spain job and got it. Ranked 8th I’d consider them outsiders for the Euros but it’s the best available.

2044/45
So after the huge successes last season, I stayed on for one last season with PSG to win the CWC. I strengthened heavily bringing Lapasset on loan again, a new cb and new cm to give me more depth. Quick summary below, to be honest I wasn’t fussed with anything other than the CWC.
League- won this again, with 99 pts.
Cup- knocked out in the 9th round.
CL- knocked out in the semis by Inter.
CWC- I started this with a convincing 3-1 win over GRE. Next up was Kaiser Chiefs and a fully rotated side got the job done 2-0. A few big European sides got knocked out, unfortunately I still had Madrid in the QF. I was dominant throughout and scored late in the first half. They didn’t really threaten and I won 1-0. Up next was Dortmund, they drew their first game so had played a full strength side in their second game. I was hoping this would give me an advantage with condition and it proved to be the case as I flew out to a 3-0 lead. I scored early in the second half and closed out a 4-0 win. In the final, I had FLA, I completely dominated the first half and scored in the 33rd minute. In the second half I continued to dominate but they scored with 20 to go against the run of play. I couldn’t believe that I may throw this away. Luckily with 5 to go, I won the ball in their half and did a quick counter attack to make it 2-1 and from there I held on.
So with the CWC done I feel a huge banana skin is out of the way and the club side of things should be just a formality. All in all I’m glad I stayed the distance with PSG. Whilst the CWC was going on I was interviewing with both Barca and Man City. A day after the final Man City offered me the job to replace the sacked Julian Naglesmann (who came 7th but somehow won the CL).
WC qualifiers. Another 6 games, another 6 wins. Looking good for the World Cup. Got a couple of ageing players so going to have to make the call if I can squeeze one more tournament out of them or not. Otherwise all is good for the WC.

Yeah 100%. Hopefully the rebuild doesn’t take much and you can start ticking off some trophies, CL in particular. Good when progress starts being made.

Oh it’s completely realistic. I remember getting offered Kaiser Chiefs after two years.
Just super handy to get a job where the team has already qualified for the CL and is good enough to win the league. You’d normally think have to spend a season building to that (the manager would’ve had to been sacked normally which means underperformance). That’s all I meant.

@vikeologist I am looking for leagues that have more than 1 domestic cup for when I need to finish this off. I know Portugal does so thats one. I came across Scotland, Northern Ireland and Israel as nations with more than one cup. Do you know off hand if all their cups are eligible? If not, all good I can look into it myself.

2043/44
So a new season began. After cycling through some more deadwood and older players I was able to significantly strengthen my team and look set to try to one better in the CL. My main man Lapasset came in on loan again and Campbell came in on a 100 million deal. He scored the final goal in the CL final last year and is a big step up from what I had. I bought in two RBs as well as another defensive cm to give me better depth, someone I knew from my France days.
CL- the main tournament I was after. I actually got off to a shocker losing 3-1 to Atletico. From there I was comfortably in PSV at their ground before back to back wins agains Torino almost had me qualified. Annoyingly in the 4th game PSV upset Atletico keeping PSV alive to qualify second. I proceeded to lose to Atletico again but luckily PSV lost to Torino so I qualified with a game to spare.
In the knockouts I drew Leipzig, a game I didn’t think I’d have too much of a challenge with. Turned out I was right as I won 3-1 at home then 2-1 away from home to cruise into the QFs. Up next English champions Arsenal. I played a blinder in the first leg winning 4-0 away from home. A 2-1 home win then took me to the SF to play last years winners Dortmund. First leg I played amazing earning a comfortable 2-0 win and the all important home clean sheet. Second leg I scored early to give me a vital away goal. To be honest I got battered from there and despite conceding two late goals I held on to qualify for the final.
In the final I drew Madrid. Two injuries happened in the weeks preceeding, my star striker and my backup LW. In the final I dominated the first half, missed some quality chances to be 0-0 at HT. I was a bit sloppy in the second half and Madrid could’ve easily scored. Luckily Lapasset popped up to score with 25 to go. They scored with 5 to go but it was ruled out for offside and I won 1-0 which was well deserved.
So I have ticked off the continental trophies part of the challenge which completes the Pentagon Challenge which was what I first was going to do before finding out about this challenge. Will stay for one more year to the CWC. My team is very setup now, players have good partnerships all over and the tactics are down pact. I feel there’s only a few clubs who can match me now so I’m feeling good about ticking off the CWC next year. Will look for a new club after that.
League- see below. My team is way too good for France now. I rested players before CL games and still blew the competition away. Broke records for most wins, points and goals scored.
Cup- lost in the SF but I really didn’t care to be honest.
I had 6 WC qualifying games, I won all 6 with a GD of 20 so I was feeling good for the Copa America. I got rid of a few of the older players and moved my tactics from a 4312 (with the one as a winger) to a more conventional 4321 which seems to be working well so far.
Copa America- I was handed a straight forward group. Going into the tournament I thought the only teams who could give me a scare would be Argentina, USA and Uruguay, funnily enough they were all drawn in the opposite group. Thankfully Mexico wasn’t in it.
I started well enough to beating Ecuador and Peru 2-1. Both times needing fairly late goals to get me over the line. I took the opportunity to heavily rotate in the third game to freshen things up and got another win beating Peru 3-0. 4th game against China and I played a full strength side, firstly to try and get top of the group finalised and also so I could play my second string side last game. A 0-0 draw came about but I absolutely battered them which all but secured top spot. Last game against Paraguay ended 6-0 with my second side running rampant.
In the knockouts I was given a gift of a draw. Uruguay were eliminated meaning Venezuela finished in 4th. I decided to play my second string side which was rewarded with a 1-0 win that was quite comfortable albeit needing a goal in the second half. I got China in the SF but there were no concerns this time as I scored 3 early goals. This allowed me to play very conservative fatigue saving tactics and also take off some of my main players as the game ended 4-0. In the other SF: USA vs Argentina was a day later and went to ET so I knew they would be much more fatigued then me. In the final I had arch rivals; Argentina. They looked a bit more sluggish then me and I raced to a 3-0 lead in the first half despite missing a pen. I scored early in the second half to make it 4-0. Argentina got one back with their only shot on target but that’s how it all ended and the trophy was mine. To be fair I couldn’t have been given a nicer run if I tried but still I did it convincely without going behind once. 3 of my players from my Corinthians days started and one came off the bench which was a nice touch.
So a massive year ticking off two major trophies. Copa America especially because now it frees me up to have a crack at the Euros or Asian Cup next cycle. I’ll stay to the WC as most my team is at a good age still then I’ll move on.
If I can win the CWC then the club side will be very well under control and shouldn’t take too long to finish up.

Well this season went a bit more the way I wanted. Churned put a bit of the squad and reduced the age. Annoyingly one of my players rejected contracts from other clubs who offered 75 mil and 60 mil meaning I was stuck with him with his value continuing to decrease. I got Lapausset in on loan again, honestly I don’t know why Barca keep letting me have him(see below). I also bought in 3 players on loan whose contract were expiring in a year (all 3 I’ve now signed permanently).
League- a reversion to the mean happened this year after OL’s effort last year. I did this easily and to be honest it was never in doubt. With about 12 games to go I had a 15 point gap so I was able to rotate heavily in the league and focus on the CL. Another trophy ticked off and I broke the record for most goals scored in the league, I did this with 3 games to go.
Cup- played a second string side the whole time, lost in the QF. I was happy at this stage, didn’t need more games distracting me tbh.
Champions League- Had a much kinder draw this year with Spurs, Ajax and Shakhtar. I beat Shaktar away from home then drew with Spurs to put me in a good position. I did the double over Ajax and I was qualified. Another win and a draw vs Spurs meant I finished top.
In the knockouts, I drew Juventus. A 0-0 draw away from home set me up for a good chance to qualify which I duly delivered as I won 3-1. It was 1-1 at HT meaning I would’ve gone out on away goals but I deserved the win. In the QF, I had Valencia. First leg I was marginally the better team but I lost 1-0. The second leg was a second story as I battered them (26 shots to 9) and won 2-0 as I scored in the 73rd minute to put me through. Next up Spanish giants Madrid and I put on a clinic in the first leg winning 4-0 at home. Second leg ended with a 4-2 loss but at 2-2 I was through with the away goals. In the final I drew Dortmund who are a powerhouse. I started well but conceded either side of HT to be 2-0 down. A set piece goal got me back to 2-1 before I scored in the 79th minute. I proceeded to concede 2 goals in 3 minutes to be down 4-2. I scored in injury time but it wasn’t enough. I’m pretty frustrated, I dominated the game (3.1XG-1.29XG). One of the players I brought through at Dortmund got a hat trick so that stings. In true FM style I’ve now bought the CM who scored the 4th goal, tbh he looks one of the best CMs in the game.
So since I made the final of the CL, I have qualified for the CWC. I think I am going to stay here now unless one of City or Dortmund become available (They’ve both qualified). It gives me 2 years to try win the CL and set myself up for another crack at the CWC. I haven’t been given a big transfer budged but ive got plenty of space in my wage budget. I’ll be looking to get some loan signings in like last season And have a few players to sell still which will help out. Annoyingly the final of the CWC is 2nd July 2045 and ive got a bunch of players whose contract expire on 30th June 2045 so I’ll have to make sure I sort all that out in time.

So after a successful season with Barcelona the PSG job came up for just the third time in the game, an opportunity I had to take.
The squad was actually quite old when I got there but with not too long in the window I figured I could make do. I bought Lapausset with me from Barcelona on loan. He was a young LW I bought from Lyon. Also bought in two established players from my Brazil and France days, another versatile attacker and a cm.
League- I started on fire the first few days and thought that this would be an absolute cruise. Through complacency I dropped 4 pts back to back which would prove costly. The title went neck and neck with Lyon but they were relentless and kept at me. They beat me 2-0 with about 5 games to go to take the lead in the league. 2 games to go they had a 3 pt lead after I lost to Auxerre. Amazingly they lost which meant it went to the last game. I was down on GD so I knew I needed a big win. I scored early and by early second half I was 5-0 up. I threw everything forward, had 2 disallowed goals and ultimately fell 1 goal short coming 2nd. Annoyingly I conceded last against Lyon chasing an equaliser which ended up costing me the title. 98 pts and losing is rough and I would’ve won the league every other season on the game which only made matters worse.
Cup- had a hard start drawing some big teams early. First game was Lille where it was a 1-1 draw and I needed penalties to get through. Next up was Troyes and then another big hitter OM who I beat 2-0 and 1-0. I then had Auxerre who I. beat 2-1 and then had second division Lorient in the SF who were duly dispatched 4-0. In the final I had Lyon and it was an absolute shocker of a game. I won 1-0 through a set piece and the XG finished like 0.7-0.2. But at least the season wasn’t a total waste and I tick off another trophy.
Champions League- I got drawn in a hard group, Juventus, Hertha Berlin and Burley. I won my first game away to Hertha and then in the next k was leading to Burnley before collapsing and losing. Away from home I drew with Juventus but then lost my next 2 games against Juventus and Hertha Berlin putting me out. I tried to throw the last game to make sure I missed Europa, I won it but still missed Europa thankfully.
So a pretty disappointing season since I missed the league but i am excited for the next season. I’ve got some wheeling and dealing to do, need to move on some older high earners. I also changed from a 343 to a 4231 which I’ll stick with.
World Cup- I had a fairly easy group with xx and Scotland. I won my first game 2-0 but decided to play a strong side to try and avoid Portugal in the next knockout. The gamble paid off; I won and got Jamaica. I rested everyone which almost backfired as I needed an ET goal to win 2-1. I had South Korean next and smashed them to win CX. In the QF I had Senegal and again I rotated heavily which paid off as ai I won 2-1 and was looking in good shape to make the semis.
Up next was former team Italy and I made a horrible start going down 2-0. I scored just before HT to give me some life. I then equalised 65 in before conceding immediately again and to end up losing 3-2. To lose by conceding a corner and a nothing pen stings. I beat Belgium in the 3rd place playoff to barely hold onto my job. Italy won it all keeping traditions of my former nations winning the WC. Hopefully I can knock the Copa America off next go so I can start working on the Euros and Asian Cup.
I’m not getting FM22 so have plenty of time to finish this but I’m definitely getting horrible flashforwards where I’ll be stuck trying to win the CWC and international trophies 😂. All other club stuff I’m confident will be done fairly quickly.

So, no, I never really understood how it was worked out, plus i think I might not have taken part in FM21 anyway.
In FM20, I was basically guessing, but honestly my advice is to take no chances, and make sure that you're in charge of a team that has won the Champions League in the preceding 2 years before the cup and is one of the top in coefficients. That's what I did in FM20.
However, I think that it's the winners of the last 4 Champion Leagues, and then the next highest ranked clubs after that. I think if you have won the Champions League in the preceding 4 seasons, your place should be a certainty, but like I say, nobody really understands it, so don't take any chances.
Glad to know it’s not just me who has no idea what’s going on haha. Really hoping I win next time and be done with it.
