  1. So I'm playing with Norwich in the Premier League and we've been on a pretty good run. We have an eleven game unbeaten run and are currently 4th in the table. We're playing against Brighton and are clear favorites. In the pre-match press conference I talk down the possibility of an easy win and warn against complacency. I'm confident that I'm doing the right thing, but once we get into the dressing room I notice that two of my players have nervous body language. I point my finger at the team and demand a win, which was possibly a mistake.

    When the match starts I immediately know something is wrong. My team is error prone and impulsive, Brighton are dominant, though thankfully unthreatening in the final third. The nervous body language starts to spread to the other players.

    Thankfully we scored a bit of a lucky goal, but I notice that even with a lead the nervousness is still present, though in a reduced form.

    At half time I tell them to play without pressure and it seems to help, they play a lot better, but we concede a bit of a freak goal.

    The game ended 1-1, which was honestly a good result considering how badly my team played. 

    I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong. Did I talk down my team's chances of victory too much in the pregame press conference? Was this game considered an important match because of my league position or is it just that players get nervous easily when they go on really long unbeaten streaks?

  2. So I'm still on my first save and I had noticed that it was becoming difficult to discover players. After doing a bit of investigating I reached the conclusion that there simply aren't that many players in the world because there are hardly any active leagues or international tournaments. This has actually become a serious problem for me because I am trying to compete with Europe's elite, but struggle to identify suitable targets despite having an army of scouts. As an example, I have only identified two good targets for left back, but one plays for Barcelona  and they other for Real Madrid, so it will be real struggle to land either of them. I have found a couple of good players in Eastern Europe and in Brazil and Argentine, but other than that the world is barren outside of England, Spain and Italy.

    I have since activated the Bundesliga and Ligue un and am now looking at doing similar things for international tournaments. I suppose what I am asking for is a basic breakdown of how the game generates new players. For instance, if I activate world cup qualifying for Asia, is the game going to call some Japanese newgens into existence? Do I have to wait for March? How much do the different detail levels matter? What is the most efficient way to increase the global player pool?

    I've been through this. Once, when I was new to this game I noticed that my young, inexperienced winger had just set up a goal. Thinking that it would be a good idea to provide some positive reinforcement and build his confidence I decided to praise him. Of course, he immediately became complacent and played like **** afterwards.

    The funny thing is how inconsistent it is. If they are playing well praising them at half time or post game works wonders, but if you try it during the game the players react like you just insulted their mothers..

    Oddly enough, I have had the most success using the praise shout on players who are playing badly and starting to lose confidence.

  4. The shouts system is one of the many in this game that is both counter intuitive and punishing if you make the wrong choice. Common sense is of no use, the only way to figure out the system is through trial and error. I try to experiment a little with shouts in friendlies, but I usually forget.

    "encourage" is basically safe unless you team is leading, but when it doubt just don't say anything. The half time team talk is a lot more reliable.

That's where you have to watch out.

    That is an excellent point, though I'm still not sure how I feel about my inside forward diving into tackles, he isn't big or strong so that high aggression feels wasted. Still, he is an excellent player.

    True, but from what I understand players get a bonus to development if they play over 45 minutes. Giving a young player 10-15 minutes can be valuable, but it is even better if you can find a way to give them 90. This is why I love the early stages of the Europa league, I can give excellent match experience to some of my youngsters who have high potential ability, but mediocre (by premier league standards) current ability.

    Ok, but you can also arrange transfers when they are 16 and have them join later. Admittedly this is inconvenient as you can forget about it and accidentally go over the foreign u21 players signed limit, but it does work. I signed a polish centerback when he was 16 and he joined up two years later without any issue. 

    Though I will admit to signing a few 16 years olds as a scrappy relegation battler and then being disappointed when they finally arrived and I realized that I'd outgrown them.

  8. I've noticed that a few of players have randomly developed new traits, as in, they weren't a result of training or developed in a mentoring group. My senior goalkeeper got "avoids using weaker foot" out of nowhere. One of my youth left backs got "knocks ball past opponent" and weirdest of all, one of my garbage youth intake midfielders developed "plays one-twos" even though I have personally experienced players with much higher attributes failing to learn that trait on the first try.

    So what the hell is going on here? It doesn't seem to be connected to attributes, at least not in an obvious way. My coaches always tell me that players can't learn to play one-twos without high teamwork, so how does this garbage ass midfielder with 8 teamwork learn this trait in just a couple months with no training? 

    I thought that maybe it could be based on social groups. There are two other players on the u18 team who have that trait, but neither of them is in the same social group as the player.

    This is very perplexing and I just hope my players don't learn any bad traits because they are a pain in the ass to unlearn. I have a very talented youth striker with the trait "looks for the pass instead of attempting to score" and I gave up trying to get him to unlearn it.

  9. I feel for you, I am in a similar but less severe situation with Norwich in 2025. I'm trying to unload one of my veteran strikers to make way for the players of the future, but I am having trouble getting rid of him, even with deals that include generous wage contributions. 

    I am still not very inexperienced with this game, but is it possible to make a player so unhappy and desperate to leave that they are willing to accept a significant reduction in wages just to go somewhere else?

  10. So, during a prematch press conference one of the journalists noted that one of my players had been performing very, very well in training lately and asked whether it would be enough to get him into the starting lineup.

    This got me wondering, is there actually a real incentive to pick players based on training performances? Obviously playing time could be considered a reward and it helps players develop, but do players who perform well in training perform better in matches?

    For the past couple matches I've tried to pay attention to it, but I haven't reach any clear conclusions. In one match the two players who were by far the best trainers merely playing ok, but in another match a young player who had a perfect 10 in training scored a hattrick.

  11. I just discovered that when you're trying to buy players it does actually make a difference if you have a good relationship with the manager who is selling. I bought a CB from Liverpool and was surprised when they accepted an actually reasonable fee instead of trying to screw me with ridiculous clauses. Afterwards Jurgen Klopp told the media that the reason he was willing to let the player go for such a "low" price is the apparently great friendship we share; kissing his ass in all of those press conferences paid off I guess.

  12. So, I'm in the market for a new, right sided center back. I've done my homework and have identified five excellent candidates. They are comparable in terms of ability, but one player in particular is attractive to me for the simple reason that he is available for free. I am not poor by any means, but this guy is probably worth about $40m and the savings are just too good to pass up. The problem is that he is unlikely to get a work permit. He also wants big minutes in the Premier League, so I don't think I can ship him off to my Scottish affiliate.

    I plan to keep an eye on him to see if he makes any more international appearances this year, but even if he plays every game I don't think it will be enough.

    Is there some trick I can use to get him a work permit?

  13. So I'm playing Norwich in the Premier League, with a heavy emphasis on youth development. It's going pretty well so far, but one problem I have is that my youth intake is usually disappointing. It seems like even when I get decent players they are of the type who need years of development in lower leagues. 

    Anyway, my question is: can I set up an affiliate relation with a club in say Serbia and add their youth players to my intake without  having to worry about work permits or any other annoying restrictions?
