  1. Sorry if this has already been covered, but just wondered what is your favourite save on FM....EVER?

I have two that spring to mind, the first was Birmingham City on FM06, can't remember how many years into the save I was but I remember having Beckham playing centre midfield for me alongside Veron, with Lucarelli and Chevanton up top....great days.

The second was my Ajax save on FM19. Went over 100 league games unbeaten and won the champions league a couple of times, a nice change of pace to my usual saves where I am struggling to survive relegation!

  2. I always start my save when the beta is released with my team (Birmingham City). Due to work and family commitments I only tend to get about 5-7 seasons in over the course of the year until the next FM is released, but that is fine for me as I tend to start losing interest when newgens start to come through. Rinse and repeat the next year when the new version comes out.

  3. I usually just use the filter options on the squad selection screen to compare all the different players that can play in each position, will do this for the reserves too. Then I will set up my tactic (I have my own tactical preferences and I shape my team around my tactic rather than form a tactic around the players) and get rid of anyone that wont fit my tactic and look to sign players for positions of weakness. I usually only spend a couple of hours doing this. I will browse the U18s see who has potential for the future, but I won't do much else outside of that initially.

I have never reacted to unhappiness of ANY KIND in the game. It doesn't have that big of an impact on anything else.

Player is unhappy with training - development is still the same
Player is unhappy with his contract - he still turns in good performances
Player is unhappy with me - I loan him out, he comes back and then starts playing better

    I just ignore it.

Same with me, I never react to it in any way. But does make you think if it has no impact and the vast majority of people take no action off the back of it, why even bother having it in there in the first place as it just seems like a unnecessary irritant?

Mhm, but then you'd also need attributes to change based on the months between data lock for the original game and the data update. What you want is more or less for SI to release what amounts to a new game every 6 months. Updating all relevant data from the start of the season to Feb/March would be a huge undertaking, and wouldn't be done before it's outdated in any case. These type of games can never be 100% up to date, as much as we would all like that. November is kind of a weird release time, and I would prefer it to be closer to the end of the summer window, but my assumption is that they get it done as fast as they can. Equally, starting in Feb/Mar with updated tables would feel weird to most people, like starting half way through someone else's game.

I agree about the November release and I have always wondered why it is November as it feels like SI will always be playing catch up as 6 weeks post release the winter window opens. Does anyone know if there is a reason it is November? Is it because that's how long it takes to build in and include all the new features, do testing etc or is it just to update the transfers but besides that the game is good to go earlier? If the transfers part is a relatively quick fix and it releases in November as that's how long it takes to actually make the game and add all the new features etc, for me personally I would rather a year where they added very few features so they could get the release cycle as close to the start of the season as possible. I know FM is a different beast, but most sports games are out as soon as possible after the season starts, for example, the MLB has just started back up and I noticed that MLB The Show was released on console about a day after the season begun, and Out of The Park Baseball (the FM equivalent for baseball) is out next week so again only about 3 weeks after the season starts.

Being playing since the very first champ manager in the early 90es. The highlight was either the last CM2 (97/98, I think) or the last CM3 (01/02)

I think the engine was completely rewritten for CM4 - Something was off for me. To this Day, I still likes the player ratings from the first CM til CM3 - there is so little spread now - I guess that is why they made 6.5. Instead of 6 or 7. But in the old days, they used the whole spectrum more and I prefered that. Now all players get between 6.5 and 7.0 unless, they score then they get a bonus.  Too simple, I think.

I know you should look at all the stats instead, but I loved the old player ratings.

I had paused my playing of the game every few years, but I do think 2022 is the best (since CM 3 2001/02)

Perhaps a little too easy. I am not using much time with tactics but a gegenpress system made me overtake both Rangers and ‘Celtic quite fast. I actually make my self some obstacles like a maximum wage, to keep it competetive.

but still in general - it is by fair the best almost for 2 decades. And I am back as a yearly buyer.

I agree with this. Once in a blue moon I will see a rating below 6, but usually it is just between 6 and 7.5. Is it actually possible to get a 1, 2 or 3 in the game?

I'm fairly confident that that's not what it is in my save anyway. The second I drop below second in the league, the board approval of my league performance drops below 40%. If they were just looking for me to finish 7th or above, I'd assume a 3rd place finish would see them quite happy with everything.

That's interesting, I have never known what it meant I just assumed it meant the best of the teams outside of the european places. Would be good to get the input of someone from SI.

I aways seem to get about 10-15 seasons into a new FM and start to feel like I'm going through the motions of repetition and I begin to fade off - I feel like I'm hitting that wall again now.

I wasn't too sure I'd be bothered about the Transfer Deadline Day feature but even though I plan and sign players up front, it's a great edition that I find myself really immersed in twice per season - so that really is a top edition for me. But, in all honestly, the Staff Meeting is pointless, as pointless as the recruitment meeting. They offer useless information (like such and such should be added as a penalty taker). It doesn't add anything that can't be sent and read as an Inbox item. It needs to be more immersive, not another chore.

Similar with the Data Hub, had a play around at the beginning but I rarely go in there now. When I'm winning, I never use it. Problem is (unless I'm missing something) I regularly swap between 3 tactics depending on the team or situation I'm facing, but the data in the Data Hub doesn't split out the information by which tactic I'm using, so It's kind of pointless for me to work with? (please correct me if I can actually do this).

Some players promises are odd too, why are players locking in wanting to be playing as a "Carrilero" for example, imagine not signing a contact for a club in real because they won't play you in your favoured "Carrilero" position, whaaaat? You're a midfielder mate. I think interaction as a whole I bit mad, some really odd responses knocking about. You win the league and a key player wants to leave to join Man City who finished 8th, what? Make it dynamic.

I really hope for future FM's that they can address these points:

    • Set Pieces

They are still so limited, and buggy. Easy to set up and profit from, if you want to abuse the system. Been like this for years now. IMO set pieces need a complete revamp, with much more options and the introduction of a "Set Piece Coach" as a new staff role.

    • Press Conferences

Wow, still so dull. Same questions, all the time. Repetition. Chore. Can't even read some of the questions either as the UI sucks. I don't even know what you could do to improve them tbh to make them enjoyable.

    • AI Squad Building

This is still an issue, AI clubs just can't build squads that retain success. You can go to a club, build a super team, leave, then take a look 12-18 months later and that squad you built will have been ripped apart, reduced in numbers and inferior players signed. It needs to be better. Clubs need more obvious and different philosophies, I want it to be more obvious. I want to see clubs hire managers that actually fit their ethos. It's too easy to win after 3-4 seasons.

    • Match Day

This is something which I think makes me hit a wall with FM. I've done a Glory Hunter save, moving from country to county winning as much as possible, now on a match day, everything feels the same, there is no difference if you are managing a match day in England, Italy, Brazil or Africa - it's all the same stadium, pitches, nets, colours, crowds, atmosphere, everything - it's so samey. Is it the Merseyside Derby, or Norwich v Leicester? Doesn't matter, feels the same. Not sure how they can achieve it but each league, country, competition needs to FEEL different - a Champions League match needs to feel different to a Carabao Cup game, the detail needs to show through. An African Cup or Nations match needs to be different to the World Cup. Surely it's not just me thinking this? Only argument is that Germany is different due to the presentation package, but still not enough IMO.

    • 2D Match Engine Camera

I use 2D to perfect my tactics, but it's got worse over the years, it needs tarting back up, bring the stadium/crowd in around the side, make it feel relevant, feels like it's left there as a token gesture - I don't know, just make it a good option to use.

    • International Management

If this part of the FM isn't due an update, then I don't know what is. This is more stale than, well, I don't know what. It genuinely needs an overhaul, it's needs looking at from the beginning, there is on immersion there.

    • FM Longevity/Immersion

There defo needs to be more to prolong play time, along with all of the above I think there needs to be more controversy and issues to deal with at clubs and with newgens, it feels like you can power on through the seasons with not much to deal with, roll up at any club and be successful (when it's just not that easy IRL), maybe more issues with agents/players - give me more issues to have to solve! Let me see the players faces on the tactics pitch and bus bench, let the squad number have more prominence on the profile screen, different scoreboards/presentations for leagues/countries, different nets, atmospheres, DoF having more influence at certain clubs (locked in), different clubs having big challenges to solve, maybe the ability to set targets or select a challenge at the beginning of saves that tracks your progress (ie Non-League to Legend, Glory Hunter etc). Maybe rather than just requesting the board to upgrade Youth or Training Facilities, maybe you can get involved in more, deeper details of the types of facilities you'd like to add to the Youth or Training Facilities. There's plenty more than my suggestions to go at.

My two pence on feedback, anyway.

Really well said, I can't argue against any of this!

  9. Ye the wages are wild in this version. I got promoted with Birmingham City, got a modest transfer and wage budget and I put a personal cap on wages but I am struggling so badly to sign players as they all want crazy money. One player i tried to sign who had 2 years left on £3.3k per week contract at an average Dutch club wanted £55k per week despite being very interested in joining me. I offered £35k (my personal cap) and he rejected the contract...no other clubs were interested in him. That is just one example of about 15 I have experienced since getting promoted. I understand that joining a premier league team players would expect a wage hike, but some of the requests are totally crazy.

  10. Yes this is becoming really annoying on my game as well now. I get the exact same players over and over in my inbox, only way to stop them showing up is to select the discard option but then this hides them from any future searches (so I believe). I also get a ridiculous amount of scout reports for players that wont get work permits...is there any way to stop wasting my scouts time on these players?

  11. Just had a bizarre sequence of events unfold. My CM who hasn't been playing came to me with concerns so I said I would sell him, he said he doesn't want to leave and left the meeting content. I press continue and he comes to me again saying he doesn't see himself as a regular so wants to leave. I agree (again) and we agree a fee of £3.9m is sufficient. The next day I offer him out to clubs for that amount and he comes to me again saying I am asking way too much for him. The next day I get a message to say he has dropped his concerns over his asking price.....what on earth!

  12. I always find it pretty wild when I come on these forums as I don't tend to have half the issues that I see a lot of people having.

Everyone is entitled to criticise if they aren't satisfied with a product they have paid for, but I find it interesting that some describe the game as unplayable and I am having a blast. Maybe it is the way I play it, my formation, the fact I don't watch the whole match, the fact I am an old man so only play for about 10-15 hours per week, who knows. All I know is that I don't seem to come across half the problems I see on here...not to say those problems don't exist.

  13. Not sure if this is a bug or not, but on my Birmingham City save at the end of my first season I got given a transfer budget of £300k and I was £8k over my wage budget going into the summer transfer window. The clubs balance was £3mil and one of my objectives was to turn around the finances. As a result of the financial position I could only retain 10% of transfer revenue.

Fast forward a month or two I managed to clear out a load of players and raise a lot of funds, bank balance is now £21 million and I am £35k under the wage budget. I have requested the board increase the % of transfer revenue to which they said no, and then I asked them to increase the transfer budget as our finances are now in a great place and their response was no as they had only just changed the transfer budget....however they haven't. Is this a bug or is that them referring to them setting the original summer budget of £300k?

Whether it is a bug or not I am pretty hacked off as I thought they might give me a few million after I raised almost £20mil for them and sold a few first team regulars. Guess it's going to be a long, gruelling season!

And this is why i still play on commentary only and always have. I have no idea if my inside forwards are cutting inside like they should or not. So i have no issues with ME at all.

Whilst I understand it is not ideal for a lot of people, this is exactly how I play. Due to time constraints I only ever play with commentary only (watch goals after the game ends) and rely on match stats/analysis/results to determine if the team are playing well and doing what I am expecting them to do in my head. I have also found that it has no real hinderance on overall performance as I seem to do relatively well playing that way.

It's funny because I seem to have way more fun than most on here by not using one of the main functions of the game (3d match engine). It definitely shouldn't be that way, and hopefully something will be done about the way the ME plays out so that everyone can enjoy it as much as I do.

Really dissapointed that it seems impossible to play anything like a defensive game.

Nothing beats a satisfying 0-0 or a 1-0 sneaked win. All I see currently and through the beta is myself and other games being 3-3, 5-2, 6-0 etc.

Really sad to see that if you placed a conference game in front of me and a PL one I wouldn't be able to see the difference in quality .

Or if you put a midfielder with 20 passing and vision and 2 passing and vision ...

I have been getting quite a few 0-0's and sneaking some wins 1-0. It is probably because I set up my tactics completely differently to other FM players. None of this high pressing, high tempo, maxed out LOE and defensive line for me. I sit deep, regroup after losing possession then try and counter attack.
