That definitely makes it more challenging. I'm playing with Blyth and can only imagine the struggle of using local north east players

As I said, I kind of want to develop that local culture, but because our youth isn't at that standard to challenge just yet I'm having to rely on the rejects of other teams. So yeah it's a bit of a struggle! How are you going in your save?

Great read so far and good luck with the run-in. I love reading career updates that have a bit of a struggle thrown in. Reminds me of my own and feels more realistic.

Thanks mate! I mean I'd love it to be a walk in the park so I don't have to be worried about relegation or anything, but as you said, struggles are more realistic. Probably why I also set those transfer restrictions, as realistically a player would only consider moving to a club as small as ours if he lived or was based in the general vicinity.

We started winning again! Funnily enough, by scoring goals. That run of form in between our 2 losses has taken us off the bottom of the ladder, and perhaps a slight chance of avoiding relegation.

I'm fairly sure our 2 games in hand are our next 2, against Boreham Wood and Sutton United. How lucky is that? The team directly above and below us. The good news is if we win both puts us mathematically out of the drop zone. The bad news is if we drop points to them  we can pretty much wave goodbye to the National League.

  4. 2022 Intake

    b1db30e3de2b05ff04f5263298e9bf62.png

This is the first intake I've been happy with. Four 5* prospects, and 2 with very favourable personalities.  This is also the first time where virtually every player fits into my system. The ones that will be accommodated of course, but I obviously won't have to try as hard. I'm a bit unsure what to do with the Irishman. It's clear he must've lived most of his life in Guiseley, but he wasn't born there or within the 30 mile radius. I think I will probably keep him, but if someone wants him they can have him. Just in case he turns out good, perhaps a sell on fee.

Mitch Battersby 3A*: This guy looks a real gem. Already at 2*, he becomes the number 6 choice at striker. He should carve up at youth level. I'm really excited to see how he develops.

Nicky Chambers 3B*: Another 5* PA striker with a good personality,he seems to have the makeup for a setup man rather than a finisher.

Luke Rothwell 3C: There's a lot to like about him, and certainly massive room for improvement.

I abandoned the change of tactics and went back to the original one with CMs instead of DMs, and we won! We were robbed of a result against Concord in stoppage time. But we are definitely trending upwards, our possession is consistently in the opposing half and we have had more CCCs than our opponents. I know that doesn't mean much, but I'm clinging to anything and everything.

Ugh, it's not getting better. I've almost accepted that we are going down.

    Transfers In

Frazier Campbell (Huddersfield): He was brought in to fix our scoring woes. He has done well so far, scoring zero in 10 apps. What a waste.

Will Lancaster (Barnsley): At this point I was just bringing in players that were rated high enough to be a first team player.

    Jay Walsh (Accrington): See above.

Look, a lot better start than I was expecting. The only result I wasn't happy with was the loss to Bromley, in which we took the lead only to blow it with two conceded penalties and other soft goals. The change in tactics may have helped too, I've set a lower defensive line and moved the DMs up into normal CM positions to try and give us some go forward.

Will Longbottom (Leeds): Doncaster junior who is perfect for us in the number 10 spot.

Kareem Hassan-Smith (Huddersfield): I brought him in just to add some depth to our wing back role and be on rotation with McNally.

  8. 2021/22 Preseason

    e37b1283ecdbb62e863c85a2dc1487af.png

Not a great preseason, but given our opposition we were probably expected to lose to 3 of those teams. The Cinderford game really should have been dealt with though.

    Transfers

Not a busy transfer window, not too many players want to sign for us it seems. However, we are in negotiations for a CAM, a position in which we have a serious lack of depth.

Robert Guilfoyle (York): He's fast and can finish. A temporary solution up front until we can find someone permanently.

Isaac Marriott (Huddersfield): We are short in depth at DM so he's a lifesaver.

Unsurprisingly, we are predicted to go straight back down. All I want is to avoid relegation.

Promoted! Maybe the key to the playoffs is to play away the whole time? That being said, we did get our share of luck, playing against two teams we've never lost to, but then we'd never beaten Boston United, except on the most important game of the season. I guess that's fate!

It should be noted that Harker left the team on a free to Tranmere in early February, and he still scored plenty. Tranmere just got promoted to League One, so it was clear that we had an amazing player that was way too good for us.

He's put 65k into the finances. Every little bit helps I suppose.

An unbeaten end to the season was much needed. We went into the last game one spot outside the playoffs, needing a win and other results to go our way to get into the playoffs. We did our part. But did everything else fall into place?

    0fe970f32b72a75ba0703d250cb72300.png

    Yes!

Alfreton bottled it against Gainsborough and Coalville lost to Gloucester to see us finish 6th by the skin of our teeth. In the first round of the playoffs we face Darlington, a team we haven't lost to in our four matches, scoring 9 goals to their 2. I'm confident we can keep that run going, but because this game means something we will most likely botch this one too.

Utterly speechless. We had the better chances in the first half but nothing of note really happened. At half time I told them that they have just been unlucky so far, and every single player was demotivated and disinterested. I braced myself for the worst. But we scored just after half time and I battened down the hatches in order to see out the game with the win. But Jake Young had other ideas. An absolute belter of a goal put us up 2-0, and then he out the icing on the cake 2 minutes from time. What an amazing effort, we didn't really let them into the game! Plus our stadium was sold out :D

West Brom are 6th in the Championship and Blackburn are 7th. A bit of a step up in opponents, but we are on a good run of form and are due another big payday with the tie played at home.
