A fine end to the season, considering where we were last season.

Happened to me, Man Utd took one of my 15 year olds. He also wasn't very good at all.

I recall Miles said it would be possible to poach other clubs players, just rare if you have a poor youth system.

The disappointing thing is that he doesn't appear to have come through the Port Vale system this season. I'll have to check next season to see if this new feature actually means anything beyond cosmetic.

  3. 2023 Youth Intake

A fairly weak intake, but there's one guy that could turn into something good. Luckily, he is able to play CM.

Jay Jones 4A: He does look laden with potential, but he'll have to train at CM.

Chris Kemp 4B: New keepers are always welcome, even if he may not play for us for a while.

Nial Beacher 4D*: Perfectionist personality, and he'll have to use that to conform to my tactics.

Really enjoyed catching up on this, not got FM20 yet but I think when I do I will start in the depths of the non-league as I haven't done it in a while. Congrats on the promotion and the survival, looking much better so far this season than last. I really like this new feature, hopefully it works the other way and you can poach from the Yorkshire clubs around you!

Thanks mate, it does look like we have a good chance of staying up and staying up comfortably this season barring a massive meltdown. I agreethat hopefully we can poach too, but I don't recall the new features saying that can happen. It would be good though as it can technically supplement any youth coming in from a feeder club which would add to the realism a bit.

Great read and great save so far. Given a follow and look forward to seeing how you progress, Seeing as I live in Yorkshire will be interesting to see the save develop. Will take you decades to have a better rep than Leeds ;)

Thanks mate, if it takes decades then it takes decades, as long as Leeds give me all their discarded players I won't mind 😀

Surprisingly well. I had tough first season where I was expected to finish bottom of VNN and managed 19th. Second season I sneaked into the playoffs but lost the final (which was frustratingly away from home rather than neutral). I then won the league at the third attempt and surprised myself but winning the playoffs in the VNL. I now find myself in League 2 with a nosebleed. I've started well in this league also. I dunno how I've done it mind haha, chopped and changed tactics more than I care to.

Sounds good so far, I'm sure you'll survive in League 2!

An extremely busy start to the season saw us begin with a bang against Morecambe, burying them in the first half. We followed that with a good win against Macclesfield, before a few average results brought the team back down to earth. However, that big win over Bromley is definitely a good way to end the month.

Mason Whelan (Accrington): Just the one player in this month, and he adds to our pace at the back. With he and Downing at the back we should have a much better time neutralising counter attacks.

  7. 2022 Preseason

A much better preseason, one not seen since my first season. We received an expected flogging by Leeds, but a very respectable draw against Bradford that saw us blow a 2 goal lead in stoppage time. But I don't mind that at all.

I thought I went a bit wilder than this. I extended the loans of Walsh and Guilfoyle, who both made my team of the season last year.

Danny Philliskirk (Oldham): Signed him as a dual role player at AM and ST. Hopefully this decline doesn't continue.

Brodie Holmes (Barnsley): A depth option at CM.

Tom Scott (Leeds): This is my prize piece of this window. Recently released from Manchester City, he is a whole star better than our next best keeper.

Jeremy Ashforth (Bradford): Looking to him to anchor our midfield. He definitely has the ability for it.

Matty Downing (Leeds): I finally have a pacy CB! I really need to sign more of those as slow CBs with our high line get punished big time.

We are still predicted to get relegated, but our odds have improved massively. Last season we were predicted 23rd at 176.00. So hopefully our improved odds have been reflected in our transfers, and therefore our results on the pitch.

We got the hard part done against Boreham Wood and Sutton United to move us out of the relegation zone. We then followed the script as we lost our next 4 matches, putting us back in the relegation zone. With one game to play, we had to beat Aldershot, knowing that if Woking did the same to 9th placed Kidderminster we'd be back to the regional National Leagues. We got our end of the deal done, through Frazier Campbell who despite being largely disappointing seemed to turn up at the right moment. But was it enough?

Just. Kidderminster beat Woking 1-0 to confirm our existence in the National League for at least another season. Despite being flogged consistently and looking down and out, the boys managed to turn things around. Hopefully we can begin to attract some better quality players to avoid scratching and clawing our way to survival.
