But, at the same time, how often do you see more than a handful of players going from an academy to the first team in one go?
I mean, you are trying to replicate the Canadian setup. Valour have an u18 side that will eventually operate as their academy. They have only ever had a handful of players total since the inception of the u18 side that have even trained with the first team. FC Edmonton didn't do too badly with regards to calling up players but closed their academy because they couldn't afford it. Cavalry tend to send players to their academy.
Off the top of my head, the only instance of more than a handful of players going at once would be the "Class of '92" at Manchester United and that was a rare occasion.
Not so much but probably more than 1 every 3 years like I see in game
The other issue is that if you delete the CPL academies in FM in order to come close to real life, then the CPL really lacks a pool of players to build their squads from since:
- L1 Ontario regens are poor and even if they have a decent CA, they will never reach it because the league rep, the facilities and the coaching are poor.
- There are not enough Canadian regens generated abroad (the CPL relies a lot on the diaspora)
- Too little transfer activity from AI managers
To overcome this, I decided to make U-Sports players slightly better than they are but this is not enough to supply an entire league. Hence my idea of forcing CPL teams to sign a lot of talents from L1 Ontario or other academies, even if CPL sides don't do it that often IRL.

Ok, the way I have seen this setup is that the "parent" club has no youth recruitment or youth facilities or junior coaching etc.
Should you have a feeder team set as an "academy" team (or "regional academy", I don't have the editor open at the moment), they would generate the players but, and this is purely me thinking out loud here, I would assume that, even with "players move freely" ticked, the parent team would only take players that the AI manager deems good enough.
That is correct. The problem is the AI manager will only take a handful number of players (like 1 every 3 years) and ones with a CA already good enough so they can make an immediate impact on the parent team. So it doesn't really work.

Hi,
Basically I am trying to replicate the Canadian Premier League IRL system where clubs have no academies and rely on local academies to sign youth talents. So I would like to have a parent club not generating any regens and be linked to regional academies which they can poach regens from.
I tried the following set ups:
- Parent team has youth intake disabled+ feeder team with box "players move freely" ticked: The AI doesn't move any players from feeder team to parent team
- Parent team has youth intake disabled + feeder team is a "B Team" in the editor: B Team generates no regens
- Parent team has youth intake activated + feeder team is a "B Team" in the editor: Parent team generates regens
So nothing I really want.
Any ideas? Thanks.

You might want to quickly create Yougoslavia from scratch in the editor, replacing a defunct nation such as Eire82 (I believe they do not have a regen name file). Create a bunch of regions and a bunch of cities with the relevant languages just for testing purposes.
I believe it should work. If it does, it means you have to recreate the database to get correct regen names:/

It works the same way as for real life nations.
>get the ID from the editor or from the game
>write the required xml file and create a folder with the graphics

Okay I found a pdf explaining how they schedule the games.
The only way to implement this in game I think would be to set up 3 competitions, all running every 3 years, with a custom fixture plans.
I'm still having a hard time understanding how custom fixture plans work in the editor and how I could replicate the attached plan. If anyone has some screenshots or files of examples of custom fixture plans in the editor, it would be highly useful. Thanks!

Ok thank you very much for all these interesting ideas, i'm gonna be experimenting a bit with the editor and I'll get back to you!
And here's the league in question:
https://usports.ca/en/sports/soccer/m/standings
It's a bit of ****show with some teams not playing as many games and others (???) and playing some teams once and some other twice for no apparent reasons.

Hi all,
I am trying to replicate a real life competition with 9 teams, each playing a total of 12 games. Obviously if I use the number of rounds option I would be left with 8 or 16 or 32 etc games which is not satisfying.
I tried to set the number of rounds to 0 and set 12 additional games in "Extra League Games" (Matches from other Stages) but the game would generate no fixtures at all.
Also saw an option called "Custom Match Plans" and I tried a bunch of things with it bu i would make the editor crash every time.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello all,
I wanted to make a Greenland database for FM23 for personal use but to save myself some time, I wanted to use an existing gGeenland database from an old FM. In the past, I was able to import past FM's databases in the editor but I am unable to do so with the FM23 editor. I have a fmf file which the editor don't even recognize. I tried converting it to a xml file with the ressource archiver but that didn't work as well (the archive was empty).
I attached the file (from @Sangue Blu) I am trying to open.
Thank you for your help.

Hello all,
So I set up a playoff between the second last of Div 1 and the second of Div 2 to decide who's getting relegated. But I haven't really managed to make it work.
So first issue, the playoff stage exist ingame but isn't being played.
I decided to do some tweaks and now i can't get past the rules verification stage in the editor because "my season cannot be completed within the seasons dates".
Canada Expension.fmfI attached the file, I would be very grateful if someone could take a look.
In 2020, the first division has a different format with no pro/rel. Ignore the 2020 edition.

Is that second division hard to create?
No it's pretty easy. Where I struggle is how to set up relegation/promotion playoffs between the 2nd of Div2 and the 11th of Div1.

Also, to get around the salary cap, CPL teams tend to provide additional benefits to their players such as free accommodation, transportation, etc. And FM cannot replicate that. So I think it's harder to make good signings in FM since we are just left with wages to attract new players. Increasing the salary cap a little before more than the figures announced (25k$ each year) could make up for that.
Fantastic database otherwise. For more fun, I was thinking adding some expansions teams and maybe the rumoured second division with pro/rel.
- Joining the CPL in 2022: FC Vieux Québec (Québec City), Tri-City United (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge)
- Joining the CPL in 2024: Saskatoon Sowers (Saskatoon), Fraser Valley United (Abbotsford)
- Canadian Second League: Acadian FC (Moncton), BC Spirit (Kelowna), Swan City (Burnaby), Calgary Owls (Calgary), Royal Laval (Laval), Sauga City (Misissauga), St John's Town (St John's), Toronto FC II, Surrey, Regina, London and maybe Red Deer or Lethbridge
Not sure about all the cities/names, if you have ideas let me know.
I'm not as good as you with the advanced editor and I faced a couple problems setting up a promotion playoff between a team from Div1 and a team from Div2. I don't want to hijack your thread though so I can make a new one or go in DMs.

Does the salary cap change throughout seasons?

Hey its funny, im the creator of Nuu skin. I never considered myself as a good skin maker (i can't code for ****) but its funny this skin has a sort of legacy.
A part from that, i agree the default skin will be again pretty bad, i will be waiting for your skin.

You do realise that you need to remove the hash symbol (#) from in front of the string for it to work? The # 'comments out' the line that follows it from having any effect in the game.
Hopefully that is all that is holding you back.Oh really, i will try then. Thanks

Let's say you want Tibetan regens.
- Create the Tibetan nation first.
- Create a region (name doesn't matter) and put in Tibet. You cannot create a region in the editor but you can edit one from another country, clear cities and change name.
- Creates cities and put them in the region created above and for the country, put them in China.

Good luck in Suomi.
I'm playing with Tampere United, a fallen club who's now in the 3rd tier. Im in 2032 and i've won the league only 2 times. Helsinki gives me hard time every year, they produce great regens each years (I would say a good 50% of the national team comes from their academy). But the league is very homogenous (a bit like Iceland, if im correct you had a save with HK) so every year there are different contenders.
This season there should be no competition though

Academy club generating regens for Parent club

Thanks Im actually using this file and built my own database from it. I created U Sports and made the draft picking U Sports players only, like in real life. Despite being playable, L1 is still not competitive enough to generate enough decent players for the CPL. If you generate 10 seasons in the game; the average CA goes from like +100 to about 90.
