Probably Dier will go. You need a couple like that in a tournament squad. Nothing spectacular but he can come in mid-game and do a job in a couple of positions depending on how things are going.

It ultimately ends up the same either way, but why not just wait until next week to announce the squad then?
Because the ones that aren’t in the European game need to meet up and start training. We have a friendly three days after the Champions League final.

Is it? Just name the squad, seems odd to name an extended one with only a week until the deadline.
Two massive cup finals still to play, potential an injury or two. May as well keep a few extra people in the frame instead of putting them on a “standby list” where they get called up after everyone else knowing they were second choice.
Plus this way there is a chance of somebody going the full Paul Gascogne and smashing up a hotel room when they are dropped at the last minute.

I'm sure Gary Bloom was on comms for the last Women's World Cup, he can't have hung up his mic completely.

Ought to dust off Gary Bloom and John Helm if they want to do it on the cheap. Old school.

No Jon Champion

Yeah, the squad announcement is tomorrow so I assume the big omissions and inclusions will be leaked throughout the course of today. Probably today that the players get told if they are going, Southgate is absolutely the sort to ring round with a personal phone call which will take a while. So by the time he does his official presser tomorrow everybody already knows.

Ukraine 1-1 Bahrain earlier in the first of these games. Not a great performance from Ukraine, at least not according to a couple of randoms on Twitter.

He was in the squad for the WC qualifiers in March
Just looking at who's been around the team recently with a decent number of caps.
You don't tend to go far at a big tournament with an inexperienced defence.

Look a bit light at the back. None of the defenders older than mid-twenties or with that many caps. Where's Caner Erkin? Injured?

Anybody managed to hang on to any?
I had 5 pairs originally:
- England v Croatia at Wembley
- Sweden v Poland in Dublin
- R16 at Wembley
- R16 at Hampden Park
- Quarter Final in Rome
Ended up with nothing
Cancelled the Rome and Dublin ones a while back because travel was so uncertain. Then the Dublin game has been moved anyway.
Kept hold of 2 x Wembley and 1 x Hampden Park but I've had the dreaded refund email from UEFA this week and they are taking them back off me.
Apparently Just Eat have got loads to give away

Martin O'Neill was a legend. Watch his effortless banter here with Robbie Williams:
"I thought you would struggle after you left Take That"

Will there be crowds for England's warm up games?
Found out today that they have allocated some tickets to people in the away travel club. Not sure if you were after a ticket based on your previous post but doesn’t look like any are going on general sale.

What lack of respect for the Europa League...
Haha, only just realised that was aimed at me. I had forgotten Man Utd were even in it

Another round of PL games plus the Champions League final, plus two England warmup friendlies. Bound to be a twist or two yet in terms of injuries.

Worrying lack of Mick McCarthy in there.

Last Aston Villa player at a Euros for England was Darius Vassell. I mean that went well.

Ter Stegen announced he was having knee surgery a couple of days ago. But sounded like it was elective rather than an injury as such. Maybe opting to get it done and recuperate over the summer if he wasn’t expecting to start.
Can’t really understand that attitude tbh, all it needs is Neuer going off injured in the opener and suddenly he’s got a shot at taking the team all the way.

Never write them off etc.

Scotland \o/ Can I just say, genuinely and sincerely, how brilliant it is to see you back at a major tournament. It has been far far too long.
Just want that on record before the other threads fill up with tiresome jokes about Gazza leaving Colin Hendry on his arse, or Jim Leighton tipping the ball into his own net against Morocco.
Is Liam Cooper likely to start?

If Ronaldo plays on to WC2022 he will have played in 5 Euros and 5 WCs Crazy.

On a related note, this means Cristiano Ronaldo can now take the outright record for playing in most Euros tournaments. There are a few players who have played in four, include Ronaldo and Zlatan. They were both on track to play in a 5th which nobody has ever done before. Casillas was named in five squads but was an unused substitute for the first one.

What are they doing at 1pm then? Just dribbling it out on Twitter? Seem to remember a load of pomp and ceremony at a Vauxhall factory one year, Vauxhall were sponsors at the time and they had Capello doing his piece to camera with a couple of Astras in the background.
