  1. Hi Guys,

Having issues with FM22 where there playing time is being properly reflected - is it a known issue or just takes time to take effect?

My player feels he's playing time is 'surplus to requirements', when Ive been to using him as a 'squad player'.

Causing me issues as he know wants to leave, but he's from my academy and is my long term plans....

  2. There will be a massive gap between their front four attackers and the rest of their team. So from an offensive point of view, you'll likely be able to control the middle third of the pitch. However, as they have two DMCs, they'll restrict space just infront of their defence. So if your system is set-up to exploit this space, then you'll likely struggle.

I'd try to secure the middle numerically and then attack down the flanks. Likely that their wide forwards will not track back with any regularity.

    What's the system your using?

Most of the time I prefer to set up my back 4 something like this. Of course it is not a perfect replication but I think it is the closest you can get:

Play Sule as a FB on defend or support duty and instruct him to sit narrower. Then instruct your left sided CB to stay wider as a BPD, and instruct your left back to stay wider as a FB or WB on attack duty. It often creates a back 3 in possession, especially if you play fairly narrow/narrow. In my experience this 'false back three' in FM23 can be achieved better than in previous versions.

This is what I've tried using either a FB (D) or IWB (D). It kind of creates it, but unfortunately the back three don't spread evenly and you have this lopsided shape. Ultimately you're too exposed on the left flank...

Hope this is something we can create in future FMs, as it's a really fun way to create an interesting attacking shape.

  4. Has anyone seen this promise before and how to actually keep it?

He wanted to join Chelsea and didnt let him. He then kicked off and was unhappy/complaining. I then tried to offer him out at £200m+ to see if I could maybe cash in. He obviously annoyed by my treatment.

Had a team meeting and agreed to promise the squad to improve my man management skills

Not sure what I need to do though?

Yes, it seems a bit odd; but I do have two questions for your case: (1) How is your club's (Barcelona) ranking in world football? Are you behind in ranking from these interested clubs? (2) What about wages? Maybe he thinks that he would not get a lucrative wage from your club compared to other giants.

No they're not, which is also strange

  6. Sorry to bump an old thread*

Im having a similar issue with Angel Alarcon in my Barcelona save. He currently has four clubs interested in him including PSG and Arsenal. His contract is up at the end of the summer and Im currently at the end of September.

What's weird is he's really happy, so not sure what more I can do. Im even his favourite personal and he "enjoys playing for me"!

I guess I'll have an option to offer in January, along with all the others clubs?

  7. Hi All,

I'm currently using a 4-3-3 high block system in my Barcelona save. I've pretty successful so far and now into my 5th season.

When I say high block, I mean:

    - Higher Defensive Line

    - Much higher line of engagement

One of main issues has been dealing with teams who play with a quick forward line and look to get the ball in behind with regularity. Now while I appreciate this part of the risk you have when pushing up and trying squeeze the opposition, however I've been trying to work out the best way to nullify this threat as best as possible. A good example would be my recent Champion league exit against Man Utd. They have Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood and now Mbappe as their forwards, with the latter scoring the crucial goal to knock me out.

The only things I've considered is selecting my fastest defenders for these games, however they're not really a match against these types of players.

Another is to maybe tight mark and press their deep distributors, but this isn't always applicable/doable/obvious.

So, has anyone got any good tweaks/strategies they employ in these situations?

Very interesting thread with the 3-2-5 shape and so far I'm liking how my team played this season. The inverted wingback (d) depending on the situation would make the tactic into a 3-2-5 or 2-3-5.

Is there any specific scenarios where you'd go for a 3-2-5 over a 2-3-5?

I guess it give greater protection to counter attacks but you lose the numerical advantage in the midfield...

Just keen to understand the logic. Ive thought about looking into a 'back three' as an attacking shape, to free up Frenkie De Jong into a more creative role at DMC - either a DLP (S) or Regista (S)

  9. Any update on the 4-3-3 @Ö-zil to the Arsenal!:D

I've been trying to settle on an attacking shape that works best for my Barcelona's squad, following 'most' of your principles in this thread. I'm mainly focused on creating a 5x5 shape in attack, with essentially 5 'behind' the ball and 5 'ahead' of it.

This is what I have so far:

It created the following shape in a recent game against Malaga (Munsah playing as a CM (S) with hold position instead of DLP (S)):

So far I've been romping the league. Just lost my unbeaten record last game, thanks to a 0-1 loss to Sevilla via a penalty. In the UCL I somehow just got knocked out by Bayern. Just outplayed them but they ruthlessly put away all three of their chances in the first leg (sensitive subject currently)

Glad you are back @Ö-zil to the Arsenal!... Congrats on this achievement.

I'll try something on my next save. Against better teams, do you change anything on the tactic?? Like mentality,  PI, or any other thing??

Yes I’d also be keen to see if you use this approach in the big games or whether you make any changes to be more conservative (albeit minor)?

Great thread as usual - your take on the game has always been the most enjoyable and relatable!

  11. I keep my possession system largely similar, but I’ve had success by using a higher tempo, in order to avoid getting caught on the ball by a high press. Also increasing the passing directness can be helpful, to try and by pass the high press.

I also try to have a direct runner or two, to challenge in behind their high line, as that’s where the space is.

First season with Newcastle. Looking to get a really top playmaker in support duty (roaming, deep lying etc) in what mainly will be a 442,

My choice is either Dani Olmo for £50 mil OR Zielinski for £37 mil.

Olmos got the potential, but Zielinski is world class right now.

Olmo is slightly better defensive player (10 tackling, 8 marking, 15 anticipation and 15 work rate to Zielinskis 7 marking and tackling, 14 anticipation and 12 work rate). '

Zielinski is equally good with his left and right feet, giving me additional options (using him as a IW from either side)

Zielinski will allow me further space in budget, perhaps to sign Nuno Santos which gives the squad some extra depth.

    What to do?

    Plenty of other variables:

    Personality

    Suitability to your tactic

    Determination

    Wage

    Versatility

    Dynamics

Have a look at this thread and scroll down to @Rashidi's comments starting on 4 December 2021

Yeah I saw that - it still isn't clear to me.

Take Frenkie De Jong in my save. He regularly plays as a Mezzala in my 4-3-3. He is also being trained in the Mezzela (S) role in CM.

Here is his training overview - as you can see on the right, he is very familiar with the Mezzala role in my tactic:

    1556573539_Screenshot2022-01-07at19_32_35.thumb.png.4690810ef6b826d8550d858136f988f6.png

However, if I wanted to tweak my tactic for a game and use a DLP (S). Look what happens to his familiarity, despite being one of the best DLP in the world:

    1939967978_Screenshot2022-01-07at19_32_54.thumb.png.91347476598f14a9ad2847fdc85858e7.png

  14. Can anyone guide me on training roles and tactical familiarity. I find the whole system confusing and broken.

I play a pretty standard 4-3-3 with inverted wingbacks in the fullback positions. So naturally I decide to train my fullbacks in this specific position and role. For example: DL as an Inverted Wingback Support.

This nicely builds up their role familiarity and which means that they are very comfortable performing that role within my current tactics.

However, should I wish to adjust my tactics and use a fullback role that can give me more width (ie. Wingback Support), the players are then suddenly unfamiliar with how the role works (ie. thier role familiarity will decrease). Meaning tactically we suffer, despite them being perfectly suited to perform the role.

    Am I missing something here?

My Tactics in my last game

    UNITED!.jpg

When playing against good teams like City and Liverpool, it can be beneficial to be a little more conservative. I don't mean sticking 10 men behind the ball on a defensive mentality, but rather making small adjustment to help navigate these games.

Try lowering the defensive line as this will reduce the space that these teams can play into. Players with exceptional passing and vision like De Bruyne will be able to exploit the space in behind consistently. It also doesn't suit a player like Maguire, who is slow and unagile. Need to think about where your team's weaknesses are. Man Utd's squad is much better suited to a counter-attacking style.

You've also opted for a slow build-up, which will naturally allow the opposition to get into their defensive shape. So you therefore need to make more of an effort to create space in the final third. Not a single player in your team is doing this IMO. They're charging forward, into what I imagine will be very compact block.

Also bear in mind that playing slow and short when getting pressed high (as teams like City and Liverpool will do) is asking for trouble. They'll just pick you off. You need to move the ball quicker and attack the space that the press leaves. Have a think about how your team will handle a high press.
