For those considering a cheap laptop, Linus Tech Tips, a well known tech Youtube channel, recently made a video which may be relevant to you. It is an extreme example but I think illustrates quite well why you should be avoiding laptops on the budget end of the scale. They also make a helpful recommendation. Skip to the end if their cheesy shenanigans are too much.

It could well be overheating. Maybe try cleaning out the air vents.

After spending a large chunk of the afternoon looking for laptops i found these 2
13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1360P (18 MB cache, 12 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.00 GHz Turbo)
16 GB RAM, 2 × 8 GB, LPDDR5 4 800 MHz
1TB SSD
16,0-inch screen with FHD+ (1 920 × 1 200)
13:e gen Intel® Core™ i7-13700H (24 MB cache, 14 cores, up to 5,00 GHz)
16 GB RAM, 2 × 8 GB, LPDDR5 4 800 MHz
1TB SSD
14-inch screen with QHD+ (2 560 × 1 600)
The inspiron-14 is more expensive (by about 150 euros) but has a stronger CPU but a smaller screen
Which one would you guys recommend?
If you're worried about battery the first one should last longer.

Any advice on if there's one standout winner or which is best? Thrown a cheaper one in just incase it's not always worth the extra price. Mostly used for FM or streaming/Youtube & general internet use. Thanks in advance.

The first three will probably perform similarly (as far as the CPU anyway) as they're all around 2 years old. The bottom one is from last year and should be a bit faster. Any of them will run FM well.

How well do you think this laptop would perform?
ThinkPad T14s Gen 2
Intel® Core™ i5-1145G7 vPro®-processor - 2.60 GHz up to 4.40 GHz
16 GB LPDDR4X - 4 266 MHz
1TB SSD
Iris Xe graphics
It costs about 1200€ which is the major fallback, im located in Sweden but if someone could find me an alternative for cheaper I would really appreciate it. The main use is for university which is why im trying to avoid "gaming" laptops since often times they can bu clunky and annoying to carry around. The second use is gaming mainly FM which is why im posting here
That is a couple of years old now. Hoe about this?

I'd avoid that. It appears to be an Inter Celeron CPU, which tend to be weak CPU's.
For that sort of budget, I'd go for this: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-3-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10239515.html
I'm not sure if you can turn of the integrated display if using the HDMI output.
@pugdogmot for a mini PC you might consider https://store.minisforum.uk/collections/amd-®-ryzen-®/products/minisforum-um590?variant=44003693265174 (the Ryzen 5 model with RAM and storage is £299

So squad building, tactics, AI, transfers, training, even the ME (the ME exists even without it's graphical representation) can all be improved and carried on to FM25.
One thing I don't understand is the womans football, or the hype for it...
I mean who even watches woman football IRL?
Maybe someone does in the USA or UK but rest of the world does not care one iota.
So for me that would be a non feature.
I for one don't care about the Italian leagues. Who even watches Italian football? Certainly not me or anyone I know. Remove it and save on licencing and research costs!

this seems a perfect fit for me as long as it could run a minimum of 8-10 leagues and a max of 4/5 countries with 15-20 leagues and 3d pitch play?!
This is a much older laptop. It's good value, but not as powerful as the 11th gen i5. It has an inferior iGPU which probably wouldn't be powerful enough for the 3d match engine

Could this laptop run aprox 8-10 leagues and do 3d gameplay? I am currently on a small budget. I could get a second hand laptop also
This is a second hand laptop, as far as I can see. In any case it's a couple of years old. The price is fair to a bit on the high side for what it is, but it should meet your requirements.

What? My team has been scoring plenty of direct free kicks this year

Hi, I’ve also been recommended this one… but obviously a bit more and wandering if I’m your opinion it’s worth the bit extra on the investment? Thanks

I don't think the performance will be a great deal different tbh. This is one of Lenovo's business class laptops though so I would expect the build quality to be a notch or two better.

Hello everyone, I'm looking for tips or recommended configuration specifications to improve the performance of FM18 on my laptop. Currently, there is a delay of approximately 1 second when transitioning to the next screen after clicking to confirm/run, whether during matches or in the general inbox. For reference, my laptop has an Intel i7 2.4GHz processor, 16GB of RAM, and is a 64-bit system, so I do not believe the issue is related to slow hardware. Thank you.
An i7 that only clocks at 2.4ghz has got to be a decade old. That's going to be slower than most modern entry level laptops.
As to what you can do - reformatting your drive and reinstalling Windows might help. After years of use there's going to be a bunch of junk there slowing things down. FM runs well on Linux - if you feel adventurous, and don't have any other Windows programs you need to use, you might consider trying that. Linux is more lightweight than Windows so might eke out a bit more performance.
In terms of FM settings - reduce the number of leagues that you're running. That's the primary user of processor time in FM.

Any chance of someone having a quick look at this and seeing if it seems a decent deal. Would be used for FM, streaming and office work. Potentially my kid using it for a few more graphic heavier games than FM hence wanting a dedicated GC.
Thanks.
This will be perfectly capable for FM, streaming and office work. Don't expect too much for modern AAA games as the GPU is quite weak, but on low settings they should be able to run. Something to bear in mind is this is the entry level tier for Lenovo gaming laptops so there will be compromises to build quality, cooling, battery etc.

So disappointed. I was expecting a riveting and compelling FM-related story.

Some opinions on the below would be great.
I don't play anything in 3d. Still a dots man, so presumably don't need anything in regards to dedicated graphics. It does however have a lovely looking screen.
One thing to bear in mind with OLED is that it has the tendency to burn in, particularly with UI elements which remain static on the screen for long periods. FM has a lot of UI elements.

Hi, which laptop will run FM23 more smoothly, https://itzoo.co.uk/products/refurbished-lenovo-thinkpad-t490-laptop-i5-8365u-16gb-256gb-ssd or the https://www.amazon.co.uk/MEDION-AKOYA-E15303-Windows-Laptop/dp/B099LK8CV1 Thanks in advance, on a tight budget so don't expect to be able to run loads of leagues or anything.
Both would be decent options. To be honest I'd expect similar performance from both. The Ryzen processor is newer but is a lower tier. The extra RAM is nice but not strictly necessary for FM. I'd look at other aspects like the battery (second hand will be reduced life), screen etc. depending on what's important to you.

Actually you can talk to older players to recommend a future staff role. There's a possibility of them saying something like "I'd like to get started right now" after which you can see their staff attributes and can offer them staff contracts. Of course, it's likely they won't want to become a staff member while they are still playing...

Apple are notorious for using anemic cooling solutions. They are fine for everyday tasks, but give it a sustained load (like when FM is processing) and it overheats. Giving the vents a good vacuum might help. There are also laptop stands with additional fans which might be worth a look.

Most players can be sold, the price just has to be right. Try offering to pay part of their wages when you offer them out

Another thing you can do is try to find other things that could make him happy. Praise his training or match performance if he's played or trained well. Criticise him if not. Ask for and follow his advice (if it's not too unreasonable) with respect to player or staff signings.
1 -
Tell him there's plenty of time left on his contract. Get insistent. If he gets angry then reduce his playing time expectation - that should eventually reduce his wage demands, even if he complains about it in the short term.

Stumbled across this - it's a couple of years old which is why it's cheap, but it will be pretty decent performance for the price. The only question for me would be FM25: you may need to turn down some graphics settings.
