I’ve been playing Football Manager type games ever since Premier Manager 98. Back then, football management games were simpler and more streamlined. Seasons could be completed within an hour yet the joy and satisfaction was just as it is for me today.

Extra Time FM is a blog where I plan to write about the highs and lows of my Football Manager saves. Football Manager is all about the journey and documenting that helps add to the enjoyment.

You can read the blog here: www.extratimefm.com

The second episode of Wandering to Titles is live.

Wandering to Titles – Productive Start (Pre-Season) Episode 2

Feedback is always welcome. If there is anything in particular you would like shown in the next episode, let me know.

I have plans to discuss the transfers that were made before I become the Wolves manager, since there were quite a lot. I missed that this episode. There were some great transfers such as Jimenez who made his loan permanent, and Cutrone, a young Italian striker. Unfortunately there were also some less exciting ones which I will later discuss in Episode 3.

I've started a Wolves save myself! Will keep an eye on this as it progresses. Any tips you could recommend so far in regards to tactical set up?

Thanks mate. I play as a 5-2-1-2. I used to have 3 across the midfield (CM), but it was too flat and was hard to connect the midfield to the forwards. I changed a CM to a AMC and it proved to work well. I generally play cautiously since a lot of teams are better than us in the league. The start of the Wolves campaign is pretty hard due to how many games you have. I'd highly suggest getting some reinforcements in as soon as you can for depth (especially in the wing-back areas) as they will be running a lot in my tactic. In Episode 7 I create a second tactic (same formation), but with more emphasis on attacking. This is for games I expect to dominate. Episode 7 should be live by the weekend.

An original target for January was Kris Ajer. But he had plenty of admirers and ended up at City with a big money move.

Got massive issues in regards to home-grown talent. The manager before me stacking too many Portuguese players, and with Brexit looming we need home-grown talent.

Problem is home-grown talent comes at a premium price - and there isn't much choice out there (especially in January).

This has been a good read! Helping me out with my Wolves save. Have been looking for players to strengthen the side in January, but can't find any gaping holes that need filling. I find the squad mainly needs more rotation options in midfield and left back.

Very much so. As seen with Episode 8, a few injuries becomes a bit of a disaster. Depth and home-grown talent are the key issues for Wolves in the first season I'm finding.

Have you made any transfers?

We're coming to the end of the of the season. I'm loving this save so far.

While Jota and Jimenez have been standout performers this season, our chance conversion rate really needs to improve next season if we are to progress.

As usual, the fixtures keep chopping and changing, but we've made an amazing start to April. I will hopefully have Episode 11 published in the next day or two.

Episode 12 is now published.

With a late surge of wins we finish the season with the possibility to finish 4th. Also a Europa League final is in sights, but first we have to get past RB Leipzig.

These stories are the reasons why we play Football Manager. I'm having a blast blogging this series so far. I hope you're all enjoying the ride.

Episode 13 is live as we take time to reflect on the season just gone.

Wandering to Titles - Season Review, Episode 13

What a season we just had. Such an amazing ride from start to finish. Big things are needed this summer as we try and compete in the best club competition in world football.

We now move into the 2nd season with Wolves. After an incredible first season, we embark on possibly the most important transfer window in Wolves history.

Wandering to Titles - Transfers Galore (Pre-Season) Episode 14

We have to make solid additions to the squad if we are to be able to compete in the champions league.

We're finally underway with season 2 competitive fixtures. An interesting start as we face PSG in the Super Cup. They are absolutely stacked in all areas of the pitch.

Wandering to Titles - Season 2 Underway (August) Episode 15

A new tactic is now training. Unsure when to use it just yet, but it's there as a backup.

Thanks for reading!

After a successful month of fixtures in September, I wanted to take that momentum and fire it down the throats of our next opponents.

Consistency is key in football and we have to grind out matches if we are to move up the footballing ladder.

Wandering to Titles - Consistency is Key (October) Episode 17

What do you think our league position goal should be this year, given we are trying to give the Champions League a go?

A short but sweet month again for November. All winnable games in my eyes and we could create some real momentum before the festive period if we do so.

Wandering to Titles - Growing in Confidence (November) Episode 18

As a side note, I hope everyone has had a great festive period with friends and family. Wandering to Titles should be back on track now.

Such a busy month in December. I hope the players are ready. We need to be mindful of not over exerting ourselves when it isn't needed.

Game management is key this month to avoid injuries. We have plenty of league games to move us up the table.

With the January window shut, we can finally play without fear of any bids coming in for our star players.

We face teams in the league we should be taking points from. Every single one. That's the aim.

The Champions League also returns after a month and a half wait since we topped the group stage. Valencia is the team before us.

Thanks to all those who have read and interacted with my story so far. This has easily been the most I've been invested in a FM save for quite some time.

We're coming up to the business end of the season now. I need to start creating a shortlist for summer transfer plans.

Any recommendations for areas I could strengthen are welcome.

We head into the title month of the season.

Liverpool on course for a 2nd consecutive title, while we chase last years point total.

An historic year for us as we played in the Champions League for the first time. I cannot wait to get our 3rd season underway.

This third summer transfer window will be a long and gruelling ordeal. We must keep our star players to continue our trajectory upwards.

I'm generally happy with the balance of my squad, so any outs will be met with direct replacements.

A lot is expected from our star summer signing. Can he deliver to help us improve on the last two 5th place finishes in the league?

We will also battle away in the Europa League this year - the trophy we lifted in my first year.

Can we continue our blistering form to the season? We already have important games to contend with this early on.

The new signings are fitting in well, but I expect them to step up even more as we progress through the season.

The blog is growing from strength to strength. I'm curious how people are finding the month-to-month, game-by-game format?

This Wolves project is one that I hope will last for the entirety of FM20, so progressing too fast may burn it out too quickly.

Since we started in the top flight, this format works well I think. But I will experiment with quicker progression formats should I start a save further down the footballing pyramid then possibly transition back to a month-by-month if I promoted a lower league team to the big time.

I'm back with another Episode. This time we head into January in our 3rd season.

The top 4 is becoming a real possibility, and we've taken great strides to get there is month.

Additions have been made to the squad also.

Was searching for some Wolverhampton Wanderers stories or team guides and found this.

Such a pleasure to read, what a nice 1st season, can't wait reading the other parts and start also a Wolverhampton save!

KUTGW ;-)

Cheers, bud! I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about Wolves in FM20.

It's been such a fun save so far. The 1st season was an incredible ride.

Our away form has been the blight of our season. At home, we've built a fortress. Away from home, we tend to capitulate.

Over the next month I intend to try to figure out a solution to our troubles.

But before that, continue reading with Episode 33: Wandering to Titles - Away Form Woes (February) Episode 33

I was also looking to read up on Wolves tactics for FM (being a Wolves fan) and came across this thread. It has been an excellent read so far, I'm excited to see how far you can take them. I've followed this thread and twitter so I don't miss an update, thank you for the great content.
