Non League To Legend

So what is "Non-League To Legend?" Well the title can give you a vague idea, it involves starting in Non-League football. However, there is a twist in this. The idea came from a YouTuber called Lollujo on last year's version of the game, which he also did for this year's game as a series. These are the rules to his series -

  1.  You MUST manage the CLOSEST team from the Conference North/South to your actual location
  2. NO playing searching, so no use of the name search bar.
  3. You CANNOT bring in your own staff, you must place a job advert or allow your chairman to do this.
  4. If a team comes in with a HIGHER salary and you are only earning a LOW salary, the logical sense is to move - so this is the case here.
  5. NO coaching badges or past experience at all.

The team closest to me are Chorley, just over an hour away and I have been to there ground a few times so this will be a good little club to start with. Here is the club profile and the starting squad - Note I will give a full run through in the next post.

We have wrapped up our signings for the start of the season - obviously as it is the Conference North we may bring in frees/loans at random points of the season but it is highly unlikely any deals will be made until around January. We have now got depth in all areas, fitting around a 4-4-2 formation, something simple which is what has to be done at this level. Here is a run through of each position -

Goalkeepers - Harry Andrews (20,) Sam Ashton (29) - Here we have two top keepers with Andrews, brought in on a free after leaving Notts County, being the first choice and having Ashton, the first choice for the last three years since signing from Skelmersdale, being a second choice/rotation option. As Andrews is young you can imagine he has a lot of potential to grow so he should be sticking around for a while.

Right Backs - Billy Simpson (20,) Matthew Challoner (22) - Something we have to mention is that we have a lot of players that can play in a multitude of positions - so I just included them in there main position for this run through. Challoner will be first choice ahead of another young signing we made in the window, he joined from Southport in the Summer (pre my arrival) and Simpson joined on a free also after leaving Mansfield 3 years ago.

Centre Backs - Andrew Teague (30,) Kieran Charnock (32,) Scott Leather (23) - The pairing two here will be Teague and Leather. Teague has been at the club since 2010 and has started most games for us, whereas Leather joined on a free from Altrincham in the Summer (again, pre me.) Charnock will be a good rotation option after he made 28 appearances last season after joining from Chester.

Left Backs - Stephen Jordan (34,) Glenn Matthews (21,) Will Beesley (21) - All three of these players are arguably capable of being the first choice so there will be a lot of change in this area over the course of the season I would say. Jordan will most likely get the nod to start after he joined from Fleetwood in the Summer despite making 21 appearances in League One last season and being a key player in the campaigns before. Matthews also joined on a free from lower league opposition, Colwyn Bay and finally Beesley will be making his full season debut after joining on a free after an initial spell on loan from Southport, he went on to make 8 appearances after the 7 in his loan spell.

Right Midfielders - Adam Roscoe (30,) Joe Delacoe (18,) Liam Wood (18) - Probably the weakest area of the squad on paper however you can never underestimate. Delacoe, who was signed on loan from Wolves will be the first choice ahead of a club legend in Adam Roscoe who perhaps may not be cut out for first team football at Victory Park anymore. Completed with the young Liam Wood would will most likely be used in cup competitions or to help raise fitness of Delacoe/Roscoe as he will third choice in this department.

Centre Midfielders - Josh O'Keefe (27,) Dale Whitham (24,) Adam Blakeman (24,) Luke Dobie (23,) Jake Cottrell (28) - The most packed area of the squad is in this position and it is full of promise. Again, it's difficult to pick two names here but Dobie, who joined on a free after leaving Wigan will start alongside Whitham, a man who has started over 100 games for the club, similarly to Roscoe is considered a club legend also. Blakeman will be the first choice after joining from Southport on a free in the Summer with O'Keefe as another option, also joining from Altrincham and completed with Cottrell who has spent three seasons here as a final option.

Left Midfielders - Dwayne Coultress (22,) Kieran Evans (18) - Both of these players were brought in by yours truly after having no recognised player on this flank. Evans is likely to be first choice over a equally capable Coultress after joining on a season-long loan from Chester. Coultress joined on a free from Newtongrange in Scottish after failed spells at Berwick and Maidenhead previously.

Strikers - Jason Walker (32,) Marcus Carver (22,) Sefton Gonzales (24,) Louis Myres (18) - No team is completed without the goalscorers and we certainly have goalscorers. Jason Walker looks to be one of the best players in the whole division after joining from Barrow, he scored 11 goals in 34 appearances and has been a regular goalscorer in the National League over many seasons. Carver will be his partner after the youngster joined from Accrington on a free. Gonzales and Myres haven't got too much to shout about but provide depth in the position, Gonzales joins from Clithroe after a career made around the lower tiers and Myres is a young forward with potential who came through the ranks at Fleetwood.
