BadManager
January, 2018 The new year began with a tough game at home to the table-topping Victory. (I actually had to play this game twice, as FM died after we had a 2-0 win.) We managed to take a lead against the run of play, only to see it pegged back ten minutes later. That wa sit for the opening half. On an unthreatening forward run Behich as brought down just inside the box. Matoukou put away the spot kick, and with the gap to the Victory narrowed it looked like January would go well as took the 2-1 win. How wrong that proved to be, only the final minutes of the final game saved us from utter disaster for the month. I felt fairly confident on the trip to the Gold Coast, only worried about Tim Payne. That cofidence looked well-founded when Matoukou slotted another one from the spot. The worries about Tim Payne had more solid foundations. We kept him ewll marked throughout, but the guy just seems to get his head on the most speculative of crosses and we can't match him. He had two from fairly innocuous balls into the area, and Gold Coast put on a third to rub it in. The only positive was that Marveggio played 70 minutes in his first game of the season. The next game was away to Central Coast, one the fans really want to win. Nothing happened, the Mariners sit at the bottom of the table but we could not put one past them. Indeed we were outplayed in a scoreless draw. Some weak defence saw Brisbane's Kola put us a goal behind at home. Some stern words were (again) had at half time. They seemed to be of no effect. We did draw level courtesy of Marveggio's corner finding Thomas Buland. It was 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Marveggio slammed home a free kick deep into stoppage to claim a much needed set of three points. Nine games remain, which means playing everyone once more. It is still tight from second to fourth. The first of Asian Champions League for 2018 will be on 28 February, making it that bit harder to keep a fit squad - but some of the guys crying out for game time might get some. The draw hasn't been made yet as the preliminary rounds are being played.
BadManager
February, 2018 There was virtually nothing in the first game of February, with the match away to Sydney even throughout. A draw would have probably been a fair result, but in the 92nd minute we were awarded a penalty, which Matoukou put away to snatch the points. Next up, we hosted Melbourne Heart. I had high hopes going into this match as it had been a while sonce we dropped any points at home. We opened with a Marveggio corner finding the rotation player, Matsikis. The Heart equalised when a good ball from Fortune opened things up for Nathan Vurns woith around 15 to play. We had possession, the Heart had the shots, and the points were shared. The Asian Champions League draw was made on the same day as the Heart game, pitting us against Japan's Okayama, Korea's Pohang and China's Guangzhou. Every east Asian group has a Japanese and a Korean team. The opening game is home to Guangzhou, a must win as it is probably the easiest match we will have. The opportunity was there to out Perth out of a realistic chance at second place when we hosted the Glory. And that was done emphatically. Five up at half time, but we didn't add any further to that after the break. Marveggio again the star with a goal and two assists, we really look much more dangerous going forward with him in the midfield. Our poor form against Wellington, especially away, continued. We have no answers to the Phoenix and they played us off the park no matter what I tried. A very disappointing 3-0 loss coming off the demolition of Perth. The month ended with our first foray into Asia, hosting China's Guangzhou. The first half saw some good chances created by both teams, in front of a packed house in Newcastle. Neither side managed to take advantage however, and it was scoreless at the break. We had possibly been marginally he better team, but there wa slittle in it. The second half began much like the first, with Marveggio finding Cecchetto from a corner and the defender missing the target by mere inches. The scoring was opened on 55 minutes, with Marveggio again finding Cecchetto from a corner, this time to feet. Ceccehett took a moment and fired the shot, which took a defelction off Lee Jong-Hyuk and went in, the Guangzhou defender was on the scoresheet for an own goal. Ten minutes later, Guangzhou's Norayr Avagyan just managed to beat Alex Read to the ball on the goal line. he could not clear, however, and succeeded only in doubling our lead through a second own goal of the game. We did actually score one for ourselves in the 79th minute, when a Marveggio through ball found Dmitry Nikitin. Nikitin put it wide of the goalkeeper into the far side and we finished with a 3-0 win. As good as it could get after one game really. The game between Pohang and Okyama ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving us temporarily on top of Group G. The games will only get harder from now on though, as the Japanese and Korean sides must be very hot favourites to go through. In the A-League, the Wellington result did not cost too much - yet. BadManager
March, 2018 First of all, apologies to anyone who had been reading this thread. FM keeps crashing on me, I gave it away for a while but have come back. So long as I save after every match I should be able to live with it and not be forced to go back too far. I think the first two games were played three times before I managed to get a clean save. I hope to be able to put in updates on a more regular basis again, but don't expect more than one or two a week. Now, onto March of 2018 and the continuing saga. The month began with a home game against the bottom of the ladder. An easy three points for the taking. Of course, being the gentlemanly folk we are we politely declined them. The match was a microcosm of what was to come. We outplayed them, that didn;t happen every match, but failed to capitalise and a disappointing scoreless draw was played out in front of a far from captivated audience. After that came the toughest match in Australia, away to Melbourne Victory. We played pretty well, however we were outclassed just a little in every area across the park. The Victory are a tough side to break down. and we didn't manage it. Overall, we played OK but failed to gain a point, Adam Taggart's early goal enough to give the Victory the victory. (Remind me not to use that line again - terrible.) A mid-week trip and first foray onto Asian soil. Japan's Okayama FC started out hot favourites, but we got the early break with Francesco Stella giving us an unlikely lead. By the half hour mark that had fallen off to a 3-1 deficit with Atsushe Kawanabe having two goals and a blinder of a game. We were outplayed again, but not to a huge degree and fully deserved James Brown's 3-2 goal. We had a couple of late attempts to restore things to a level footing but it wasn't to be. Overall, a 3-2 loss to the side I expect to win the group was not bad. The pattern was set though, of playing alright but not gaining for our efforts. The trend continued away to Brisbane Roar, back in the league. Again we played alright and I couldn't fault the endeavour. Again, we came up short. Despite having all the best chances, another nil-all draw was the result. It was more action packed when we hosted Korean side Pohang in the ACL. The vistors got one in the 4th minute, only for Chris Payne - who had been moved back into a striker role for this match following Nitikin's run of poor returns - to level with a cheeky shot in the 6th. Pohang's Jo Jae-Cheoi put the visitors ahead again in the 23rd and at this point Pohang started to out play us for a while. We levelled through a penalty on the 35th minute though, and saw out the remainder of the half on level terms. After the break we lifted and came out the better team, but couldn't put another one away. A routine Jo Jae-Cheoi effort, however, went straight thtough goalkeeper Cisak's legs near the end and a 3-2 loss was our reward for again playing some good football. We could have had points against both the two main sides in the group; a draw against Pohang was probably even deserved, maybe even a win; but got nothing. We finally managed to get full results out of a game with a 5-1 demolition of Gold Coast. That secured second spot in the league for us, and therefore by-passing the early knockout rounds of the finals. We will play a non-knockout two-legger against the Victory for the right to go straight into the Grand Final. The final game of the A-League regular season saw us all over rivals Central Coast. Again, we afiled to gain the points for our efforts, letting in a goal late for a 1-1 result. March as very much a month of missed opportunity. We played far better than a 1 win, 3 draw, 3 loss result suggests. That happens sometimes, maybe we'll get our luck back in the finals. As was already stated, that saw us finish second in the regular season of the A-League. Some teams have a game to go, to be played on 1 April, but the top six and two are decided. We could be sitting much better than we are half-way through the group stage of the Asian Champions League. We really need to knock over one of the big boys, and win in China. BadManager
April, 2018 The month began with a must win trip to China. "Must win" soon turned into "must draw", quickly followed by "must win the next match" and "must remember to quit management". It was just ugly. While statistically it didn't look like we were outplayed by a real lot, the game itself was far worse than a 3-1 scoreline would suggest. That consolation goal came in the 88th minute, but the damage had been done in the opening stanza as we could not find a way forward or a defensive method. After that the finals series began in the A-League. The Major Semi of course had us playing against Melbourne Victory. With the first leg at home, we had to squeeze out a lead to take to Melbourne. It was not to be, as we were completely obliterated and the bad morale started to show with no effort given to get to the open ball given numerous occasions. Despite everything it took until the second half of Taggart to open the scoring for the Victory. They went on to a 2-0 win. Other results - Minor Semi-Finals (Knockout) Gold Coast 0 - 1 Melbourne Heart Perth 2 - 0 Brisbane The return leg was set up to be horrendous. I went with a defensive mindset, hoping we could find a way to score one and then open the game up when we brought ourselves into the tie. But really, I was just hoping to avoid uttr embarrasment. We never got much chance ourselves, but we did hold out the Victory for most of the game. I went more attacking later hoping for a miracle. It never arrived, but a nil-all result wasn't bad of itself. It did mean we had to play against Perth to make it to the Grand Final again though. Minor Final Perth 1 - 0 Melbourne Heart (extra time) We had to win our last two games in Asia and hope other results fell our way to make it out of the group stage. Okayama FC at home was the second last. Our first good chance came in the 17th minute when a Marveggio free kick found Brown's head. Brown seemed to have overhit it, but it found the underside of the crossbar and put us 1-0 up. Okayama soon answered that when Yamada's long ball found Kawanabe, his shot was parried by Cisak but Zheng Long got the simple rebound and it made it 1-1, the reply happneing inside two minutes. In the opening minute of the second half, Okayama's Siloe found Zheng Long with a cross to the head. Zheng had slipped his man and netted, we were down 2-1. The game was put out of reach when the visitors Terada floated a free kick into the top right corner of the goal. We fought it out and Chris Payne pulled one back late after running onto a suberb ball from Dean Furman. The 3-2 loss was creditable, but ensured the final game was dead rubber. The preliminary final, to see who goes through to face Melbourne Victory in the Grand Final. A lot was on the line here. I'm not entirely sure, but I think we would be guaranteed a spot in Asia again next season if we won this. A loss would mean (again, I think) that we would be relying on the Melbourne Victory to beat Perth for us to make Asis the next season. [Qualification is I believe: the winner of the regular season and the winner of the grand final, if the two are the same then I believe it is second in the regular season. Wellington can not qualify as New Zealand is in Oceania.] Some sloppy defending at Behich, playing at left back for this game, allowed a simple cross in and finish for the Glory to go one up inside the opening minute. It never got any better. Perth's Sasa Macura proved too pacy for us in the 21st to slot an easy one from almost on the goal line. Leigh Irvine, making an all too rare appearance, managed to pull one back on 36 minutes; but Macura again proved too quick and too good with an immediate reply. From there it just got humiliating as we were bundled out 5-1. During the month we picked up a young Norwegian who will hopefully add something next season, Dan Horn on a free transfer. I should also mention that goaleeper Alex Cisak and defenders Erik Matoukou (retiring it would seem) and Aziz Behich (who actually played a lot of the season as left winger) were selected in the A-League All Star XI. Cisak and Matoukou also made the Professional Footballers Association eleven and Cisak won goalkeeper of the year. edit: It looks like we will probably lose James Brown because of the marquee player issue, where trying to give a marquee player a new contract as a marquee player is not allowed because FM decides you can only have one marquee player. Its the same guy.
BadManager
Quick update to April: Melbourne Victory did beat Perth Glory in the Grand Final. However, I actually saw the rules for ACL qualifying and the losing Grand Finalist goes through if the winning Grand Finalist has already qualified. So, assuming gthose rules are correct Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory are the qualified Australian teams. Melbourne Victory 1 (won 7-6 on penalties) - 1 Perth Glory
BadManager
May-June, 2018 With just the last ACL game in May to report on, this update will include the first half of the pre-season and the usual end of season wrap including various champions leagues. Newcastle's final game of the season was a dead rubber against Korean side Pohang. Pohang were on top early and firmly deserved the openng goal which came just seven minutes in. Pohang really controlled the the first half, and Somerville's through-ball to Irvine to score was somewhat of a surprise. A nice reward for Irvine though, as he began the move. It stayed 1-1 until half time. We lost Alex Read late in the opening half, but his replacement Nikitin got onto the end of a ball by beating both central defenders, a first touch taking it left of the goalkeeper then set up an open shot. The two teams were probably level in general play for the second half. A consolation win, avoiding total embarrassment in the ACL but still last in the group. On the transfer market, not much action at all. The only new player mentioned, 23 year old attacking midfielder Julius Davies comes in on for free on a long term deal after six seasons with Melbourne Victory. Very high wages for him though, so we need him to perform. Davies is one of only three members of the Australian World Cup squad to be playing in the A-League. At the time the squad was selected all three were Melbourne Victory players. As expected, we lost former marquee James Brown throgh the marquee bug. Back-upgolkeeper Andrew Redmayne refused a new contract, and the third goalkeeper's transfer clause to Motherwell in Scotland was activated at the end of his season long loan. A few others contracts came up and we were not that keen on retaining some at all, others were not going to be kept on the wage demands they had. Jose Guerrero was probably the best of that bunch, so no major losses. Only one previous club to update for the 2017/18 season, and they reversed their decline to stay in the South African top flight. ========================================================================== |Atile FC, South Africa | |Year |League |Cups |Notes | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| |2013/14|SA Premier 11th of 16 |FA - BadManager
July - September, 2018 Its still the off-season befpre the 2018/19 season. Again there was basically no news on the transfer front, with only a backup midfielder picked up. I'm reasonably happy with the squad, though I would like to sell off a couple of the internationals in order to fit in some others that look good - but the allowed five non-Australian spots are full and I can't sell anyone for a decent price. Gianmarco Tedosio has been promted from the youth squad and perfoemed pretty well in friendlies. He could well get some game time and being Australian and under 19 does not have to be in the 23 registered players. We played a lot of friendlies this pre-season, starting with a league involving our youth team and Sydney FC in addition to ourselves. There appear to be some good results, including a number of other A-League teams; but most of thsse were not fielding anything like a first team so it is hard to judge. I was, somewhat suprisingly, offered the Yemeni Under 23 job in mid-September. With the Asia Games and Olympic qualifiers coming up, I took the job - but will quit after the Olympic quaifiers (actually qualifying is no chance). The global highlight of this period was the conclusion of the World Cup. BadManager
October, 2018 Season Expctations: Board - Respectable league positions Me - Title Challenge, qualify for Asia There is an oft mentioned saying in FM; or occasionally mentioned, or perhaps never mentioned and not a saying at all; that a bad pre-season will inevitably be followed by a bad season, and a good pre-season by a terrible season. We had a good pre-season. The season began with the good news that our opening game had been postponed, due to the number of players on international duty. Once things got underway, we hosted Central Coast Mariners. It was one for the theater-goers, as I used a more attacking style than normal and it paid dividends at the goal mouth. It also saw payback at the other end. It was 3-3 at half time. Early in the second hal I went back to a more defensive mode, as the Mariners were clearly looking more like scoring. Nobody scored again. Two points dropped on a game we were favourites for. Next up, a trip north to Brisbane. The Roar gifted us through an own goal early, and all looked good. That was cancelled out when brisbane scored from a nothing move and another two points were dropped for no good reason. In both opening games we were down a couple of players through injury and Dean Furman suspension carrying over from last season. Since I have been at this club, the trip to New Zealand has always been a tricky one. We had a tired squad, and a few second-teamers were rotated in as a result. We were never in the hunt, and the Pheonix goal was really inevitable. Desparate for a win and something to placate the fans, we got the early break against Melbourne Heart. Things we re looking good as we seemed to have the better of pay and chances were rare for both sides. It was all to no avail though, as the Heart broke through to claim a 1-1 draw. The defence has completely fallen apart this season. No coherence, no structure, much like my writing "style". As we failed to qualify again for the ACL, I had been toying with the idea of looking for another job at some point this season; and am now considering quitting fairly soon. The side has descended into complete rabble.
BadManager
November, 2018 I don't know how much longer this can keep going, my old laptop is really struggling. The month started with a bit of luck. Sydney FC were outplaying us until they had a player sent off. Chris Payne got a the only goal of the game ten minutes later to give us three points. A mid-week game to home to Adelaide brought back proper form. We were favourites, we weren't bad, we slipped behind. We drew level right on half time, and that's how it stayed. Two more points for the taking that we failed to take. The second in a string of three home games in a row saw us host Gold Coast. We need to win games at home to set up any sort of position for the finals. The opening goal came with the GC keeper missing the ball, one of their defendersattempting to clear with the head and Behich heading back over him and into the net. Gold Coast levelled ten minutes later and it was 1-1 at the half. Right on the death we had another strong chance when Davies went on a run, the resulting shot was only just on target and just wide of the goalkeeper to steal a 2-1 victory. Against Perth, Leight Tracey scored a rare goal to give us the early lad. By half time it was 4-0. It stayed at that score. Finally, a solid win. The final game was away to the ever-dominant Malbourne Victory. Following the success of the Perth game I stayed with the 3-4-3 I had trialled in that match, with internationals and injury I wa slimited in selection for that game. It looked bad early, Victory's Taggart got the ball right on the goal line. His shot was parried by Cisak, only for Lorenzini. As the match went on we settled into it a bit, but never really got on top and a 1-0 loss was the result. We have now played everybody once, and need to lift our game to make top two. BadManager
November, 2018 (Still) Yemen Under 23s - Asian Games After a lucky start in the Asian Games against what looked to be the hardest team in the group, North Korea, I thought I was a good chance to advance to the next stage. It wasn't to be though, as fatigue left me without enough fit players to pick from for the next two games. Both were lost. With the Asian Games over, there were no more matches for the under 23s coming up and the post was made redundant. I would have resigned anyway. BadManager
December, 2018 Another dismal month, really. Nikitin got us the lead at home to Wellington just before the break. The Phoenix took the lead early in the second half and remained there. More ponts dropped that we should have been able to claim. Up the highway, away to Central Coast we got the lead early. And for once, never looked back. The Mariners did have a couple of good chance, but we managed to deny them each time. Against Brisbane we had the better of a scoreless first half. Marveggio gave us a deserved lead early in the second. The Roar then eqialised in one of their few moves forward, and I was ready to resign. Nikitin restored order late, and we had two wins in a row - a rare feat this season. Down in Melbourne against the Heart, we were outplayed. Not by alot, but the 2-1 loss was probably a fair reflection of the game. A drawwould pribably have been reasonable as well, but my complaints were more about how we played than the result itself. Hosting Sydney on New Years Eve things looked to start well, a corner in the second minute resulted in a header on goal which caught the Sydney goalkeeper out of position. It was cleared off the line by a Sky Blue defender though. We kept upte pressure throughout the half, but the complete failure of strkers to strike proved costly. After the break Sydney tried an incredibly speculative effort. Cisak watched the ball go straight through his hands to gift Sydney the lead. We pushed and pushed, and couldn't get a result. Three points lost on the back of being completely unable to finish somple moves, and dropping the simplest of saves. Before the Heart game we were in a position to steal second place (and it would have been a steal). Not any more. The CWC stayed in Manchester, but swapped clubs. AK22
Who'd have thought Yemen would need a Under-23s manager?! Still plenty of time to turn things around in the league, although I don't know if you'll match last season's second place finish.

BadManager
January, 2019 The transfer window opened mid-month, but we haven't made any moves yet. This is largely because I haven't been able to offload anyone in order to free up spots. The new year started with a trip to Adelaide, whi are having a resurgence of sorts this summer. Julius Davis was lucky with a long shot early to put us in front. He scored his second in stoppage time, sliding one under the left hand of a diving Adelaide goalkeeper to seal three points in the final minute. Nothing happened when we hosted Melbourne Victory. After an hour of an even, but almost chanceless game, Chris Payne put one home. The Victory responded almost immediately. I'm happy to take a draw against that team. A solid game up on the Gold Coast, only a poor own goal put a blemish on an otherwise fine performance. Another game, another own goal. We were under seige for a few minutes in Perth before a Cisak parry saw the ball struck Lolios in the back of the head to give the Glory the lead. That goal was just unlucky, but we derserved to concedeat that stage. Underperforming defender Tormod Buland got the equaliser, hopefully that wil help him lift his game for the remainder of the season THings as they stand, with one game against each opponent to go: African Cup of Nations and Asian Cup are underway and will complete in February. BadManager
Early February and I'm tempted to try to jump to Italy. Struggling Serie B side Novaro have sacked their manager. I'll leave it open for a day or two, and the let the public decide whether I should apply. I'm in two minds, if I got the job it would be a handy entry to Europe. On the other hand, I want to go to both South and North America (only USA is active in North America) at some stage and maybe that shold be before Europe. If I apply I may need to resign from the Jets, and the job is by no means a certainty - I wouldn't be favourite and may well get laughed at (the Al-League is not a high reputation league). Novaro currenty sit in the relegation zone at 21st of 22, the media had them predicted 16th. I suspect the finances aren't good. The squad is hard to judge really, but most contracts expire in June 2019.
BadManager
February, 2019 I've decided not to try and go to Europe yet, after such a resounding public response. I am pretty sure this will be my last season with Newcastle though, unless a miraclke happens and another ACL appearance is in the offing. February began with a trip to New Zealand, always a tough one to get anything out of. Wellington were down to ten men early, after the red card was shown. But in the end, a fairly eventless game ensued and we escaped the shaky isles with one point. With Central Coast struggling I had confidence of getting the points hosting the derby. Instead we fell behind with a man left unmarked on the near post from a corner. Only the failure for an obvious offside to be called allowed us to takethe draw. A draw was probably the right result, we really did not play that well. Again, a struggling opponent as we took the trip up to Brisbane. Again, we should have had a win and failed to do so. Only Chris Payne's brace, including a stunning solo effort, eable us to take that point. At home Julius Davies broke the deadlock against Melbourne Heart, coming in off the right and slotting the resulting shot. An unbeaten month, but a disappointing one with four very gettable points missed. Not surprisingly, we failed to make any surge towards the top two. That looks out of the equation now, and simply hanging onto a finals place is all that can be done. The difference between 3rd and 6th is very little in reality. edit: I missed that these finished in February. BadManager
March, 2019 The last month of the regular season began away to Sydney. Again we controlled the game, 61% possession, the majority of shots and mostly decent chances at that; and again we failed to capitalise. Sydney took the lead after break, and instantly replied to complete the scoring for the match. Hosting Adelaide, we got out to a four goal lead before conceding with 15 to play. Nikitin the best with two goals. Julius Davies pulled out a hattrick in a 5-0 win over Gold Coast. His first two were courtesy of crosses from the left by Davy Thomas, who had possibly his best game for us. Down to Melbourne to play the Victory. And down it was, 2-0 down after half an hour. I took off a striker and added Furman to a defensive midfield position to try and cover Adam Taggart. That seemed to work, but too late. Thomas pulled one back for us. Marveggio had a crack from distance which came off the inside of the upright, but back into play rather than into the net. 2-1 loss. Melbourne Victory claimed the title in this match. The last game of the regular season saw us host Perth Glory, with three of our first choice team away on international duty. Within three minutes we had sent four just over the crossbar but sunk nothing. Perth were first to score when Cecchetto showing his age and run down to gift them the goal. It was Thomas again who pulled one back to give us a point. The Victory game pretty much killed off any hope of finishing top two. In the minor semi-finals, we have Adelaide at home. The player awards for the season were announced. BadManager
In the aftermath of missing the finals, the bosses of Melbourne Heart and Gold Coast have both been sacked. Media are speculating I am favourite for the Gold Coast job and among the favourites for the Heart job. I'm not really interested in a move within Australia though. BadManager
April, 2019 April is finals month in the A-League. Our campaign began with a minor semi-final at home to Adelaide. We were 2-2, but on top, when FM crashed. So I had to play the game again. We had all of the ball early, but not a lot of high quality chances and consequently were not rewarded on the scoreboard for the efforts. Veteran Paco Cecchetto, playing potentially his last match, broke the shackles with a goalmouth scramble. It remained that way until half time. After the break, we again controlled the game without reward. Julius Davies had a couple of opportunities, but failed to capitalise. The game appeared to have settled into a pattern of Adelaide knocking the ball around at the back, and us looking threatening without actually being threatening. One of the few times Adelaide attacked saw a good shot parried by Cisak, but our defence had been slack geting back for once and the ball fell to Fondyke who levelled in the 87th minute. Three minutes into stoppage time, Adelaide's Fondyke knocked the ball to Barsan, who appeared to be slightly offside. Barsan popped the ball over goalkeeper Cisak's head, and then beat both Cisak and Horn (who had been the closest to making the Fondyke pass onside) onto it to head home the 2-1 season ender. If anybody reads this, there would be no surprise with what followed. BadManager
May-June, 2019 Firstly the job news. Jobs came up in Spain for the most part, and while I would prefer to go to the Americas before goping to Europe I applied for a couple. Alcoyano are in the Spanish second tier. They narrowly avoided relegation, and laughed at my application. Palencia were relegated from the same division, and were flattered by my interest. More to come on that. As a complete outside chance I appled for the Scunthorpe job as well, in the English Championship. They at least did not laugh at me. So, am I at one of those clubs, or maybe another one I haven't mentioned yet? I now have a job at ... ... nowhere. Still unemployed, I had hoped that a reasonable (not outstanding by any means) record in Australia might stand me in good stead for a second tier job somewhere. No dice. A couple of Argentinian second tier clubs laughed at me, as did the Thai FA. As always, various champions leagues and national competitions occurred over May and June. The European Champions League finished up in early June. BadManager
News on the job front. Not great news, as this is a huge step backwards. Club Deportivo Calahorra are newly promoted into the Spansih Second Division B2 - as low as is loaded. The town of Calahorra is about 400km north-east of Madrid. The finances are difficult to guage, there is a small amount in the bank but this club has been below the game until now. Upon arrival there was no staff, I have started advertising for all types of staff. The squad looks ... what's the best word ... pathetic maybe. Yes, pathetic. A long list all with a year to run on their deals. The wages are slightly below budget. The media says 20th, of 20, and with four relegation spots in the division that suggests a nasty season ahead. In essence, the club needs a complete build from the ground up - and I'm not really one for huge amounts of action on the transfer market. The "stadium" La Planilla has a capacity of 3000. And, look, there might even be a stand at one end. At the other end, not so much. I'm starting to think taking this job might have been a bad idea. BadManager
Once again, apologies to anyone who reads this. I had to go away for a few days for a wedding. My laptop is struggling to get through one game without crashing, so updates are goingto be slow anyway. July - August 2019 A lot of the transfers were organised before my arrival. The last two will probably be the starting two central midfielders, and key players for the season. With the midfield boost I might move away from my usual 4-4-2 with advanced wings as the default lineup to something with 3 central mids. I didn't learn as much as I should have from the pre-season friendlies. All games except one were against teams a tier below us, so the results look better than they really were. The Copa America provided Mexico with another continental trophy. BadManager
September, 2019 The board's expectations at the start of the season were to avoid relegation. Mine were to hopefully get some early points and take it form there, avoiding relegation if I stayed the full season, maybe looking towards mid-table. The media had us finishing dead-set last. To give some guide as to where we sit, the bookies have not had odds of under 7/1 for any of the six games in the first month. In the first game we had a 2-0 lead before my laptop decided it didn't like FM. Replaying the game we dropped an early goal but were probably the better side until going down a man. Even after that play was fairly level, but we conceded again to start with a 2-0 home loss. For the second tim in two games we would finish a match with ten men. This time it was due to four injuries. Gonzalez, one of supposed my midfield trumps, went early and would miss 4-6 weeks. A moment of stupidity saw us fall behind, and we started with two losses. At home to Barakaldo was probably the only time we were comprehensively outplayed for the month. We just never really got amongst it and 0-2 was perhaps a little light on considering the gap in ability. I trialled a new tactic against Real Union, it seemed to be working before my laptop pcked it in again with a 1-0 lead. Upon restart I forgot to replace one player again, and that proved costly as Real Union ran through him numerous times before I picked up the problem and made the substitution. Other than that spot, we seemed the better team. We finally scord asd well, but 3-1 was the final result. Quite unlucky to concede both of the late ones. One was absolutely boomed from about 40 yards, and the other just a crazy bit of inexplicable goalkeeping deciding to chest an easily catchable cross straight to a nearby striker. I kept with the new tactic for the final game. It looked set for a scoreless draw, where we had been the better side, until we gave up a penalty in the 84th minute. Most people can probably guess our ladder position. Six straight losses, on the path of snootyjim's 10 - even his winless games record is in my sights. And while on the topic of jobs without hope, I am now the manager of Cook Islands - ranked 196th. The first game is a friendly against Fiji in October. The Oceanian Nations Cup is in 2020, Cook Islands are not going to be among the favourites.

BadManager
October, 2019 Turn it around says iHeadHunta x, and did we? Until somebody reads this, only I know. We had two homes games to start the month. First up, Hueska. We went two goals down early. From there on the fight back was, well, missing. It stayed at that score, more through luck than anything. We barely went forward and barely touced it in defence. Gonzalez started his first game since the first, and scored early to to put us in front of Badalona. Deservedly in front, too. It stayed that way until the half. Badalona then pulled out a double whammy against us to take the lead. We did pull the lead back in the end and got our first point. Definitely deserved three though. Next up was Barcelona B. Thumping. 7-0 loss and we were lucky at that. This was when thoughts of resigning became much more like a plan. A team meeting after that game lifted moreale considerably, even some "fairly good" re-appeared. Valencia vame in against Sestao to replace the worst performing defender from the previous game, and opened the scoring on 37 minutes. We were the better side for the opeing half, but Sestao's Cornejo levelled straight after the break. The game was played on much more even ters through the second half, but once again we found a way to ensire we were defeated. Sestao again to have the lead. Periera drew us level with 20 to play, but once again Sestao came from nowhere with Cornejo's second taking the points for them. I have applied for the vacant job Argentinian Second Division outfit Club Atletico Boca Unidos. The day before the Badalona game, Cook Islands beat Samoa in a friendly. My debut with the Oceanian minnows was a relative success. Samoa 0 - 1 Cook Islands

BadManager
Oh dear, it's not looking good. How bad must Badalona feel being the only team to drop points against you! The first syllable says it all. Probably the most frustrating thing is that we've looked the goods in a few games. With an average run of luck we might be on the edge of the relegation zone, rather than already consigned to last spot. At least that draw saves me from the "most consecutive losses" record. Need a win soon to avod "most games without a win", which I think sits at 18. If I am still at the club.

BadManager
Unsurprisingly, I accepted the Boca Unidos job, and find myself in Correientes, approximately 950km (a bit over 600 miles) north of Buenos Aires on the Rio de la Plata. Stadio Jose Antonio Romero Feris holds 15000 people, and is certainly a step up in that regard. Sitting in 15th after 13 games of the 38 in the league season, the board has expectations of a mid-table finish and to reach the 6th round of the cup. We are already in the 5th round. Finnaces are OK, with a million pounds in the bank, and a loss of around 70k last month without much transfer action. Next post, when I find time, a little on the squad strength. BadManager
This is the squad I begin with. Lacking in central midfielders, something my favoured formations rely on. I might need to pull together some new tactics, at least until buying some new players. The 4 star defender Gutierrez looks pretty good, and is young. I suspect that he will be sold off for a decent amount at some stage. For goals, I may be relying a lot on Rolon.
