The Forest Frenzy - Forest on the up at last!!!!

Having been billed as title favourites, Forest have so far not lived up to the tag. Hepburn however is slowly but surely turning things around after a pretty dismal August. In September Forest won every game apart from one and are climbing the table and getting closer to the play off spots. The players are finally getting match fit and the new signings are settling down to life at the City Ground. Here is the latest goings on at the City Ground.........

Championship

Watford v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 8th September 2007

Hepburn's men were in much need of a win to try and get their season up and running. They travelled to Watford who had started the season badly themselves. Forest started the game very well and quickly had Watford on the back foot and it kind of set the trend for the rest of the match. Loan signing Sergio Peter put Forest ahead in nineteen minutes and then Marlon Harewood made it two in thirty four minutes. Watford were getting played off the pitch at some points are Forest were a joy to behold at times. In the second half it was more of the same but Forest did make their posession count as they failed to add to their lead. But at full time it was three points in the bag for Forest and a great performance that hopefully they could build on.

Final Score - Watford 0 v 2 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Forest - Peter (19), Harewood (34)

Sent Off - Jay DeMerit (Watford)

Att - 13989

MOTM - Sergio Peter (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Sheffield Wednesday v Nottingham Forest - (A) Tues 11th September 2007

The confidence was slowly building amongst the Forest players and they travelled to Sheffield to take on the Owls intent on getting another three points. Forest produced a quite brilliant performance and the Owls could not handle a rampant Forest. It was 2-0 after only ten minutes courtesy of a double from James Harper and the Owls never recovered from those early goals. Harewood then got in on the act by grabbing a third on the half hour mark and then grabbing his second three minutes into the second half. After the fourth went in Forest just coasted to victory. Hepburn was delighted especially with his defence who had now not conceded for two matches.

Final Score - Sheffield Wednesday 0 v 4 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Forest - Harper (8,10), Harewood (30,48)

Att - 22281

MOTM - Marlon Harewood

Championship

Nottingham Forest v Wolves - (H) Sat 15th September 2007

Two matches won in a row and things were looking up for Nottingham Forest. Next up was a tough test as Wolves travelled to the City Ground. Unfortunately for them, Forest produced another fantastic performance and in the end beat them easily. There was not a bad performance in the Forest team but the star of the show was loan signing Danny Szetela who was superb throughout. He got his name on the scoresheet to cap a magnificent performance. Harper put Forest ahead on the half hour then Szetela made it two and Marlon Harewood added number three in the second half. Wolves offered nothing in attack as Forest were just too good on the day.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 3 v 0 Wolves

Goals - Forest - Harper (31), Szetela (39), Harewood (62)

Att - 30585

MOTM - Danny Szetela (Nottingham Forest)

Carling Cup 2nd Round

Nottingham Forest v Exeter - (H) Wed 19th September 2007

The stars of the win against Wolves were rested and in came the fringe players, looking to stake a claim in the first eleven and give Hepburn food for thought. It was a rather boring affair and at times Forest just seemed to be going through the motions. A goal either side of half time were enough to see Forest safely into the next round. The first game came from Kazubowski and the second came from substitute James Harper who came on for another run out.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 2 v 0 Exeter

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (44), Harper (65)

Att - 15051

MOTM - Sergio Peter (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Nottingham Forest v QPR - (H) Sat 22nd September 2007

Forest were flying and all the stars of the Forest team were restored to the first elven as they went in search of their fourth win in a row in all competitions. They started off well and earned themselves an early penalty but Darren Purse missed from the spot. Soon after QPR went up the pitch in their first real attack and were awarded a penalty which Bircham converted. After that QPR then went down to ten men as Dominic Shimmin got his marching orders for a cynical foul on Harewood as he was running in on goal. It was all Forest but they could not find a way past Simon Royce who seemed to by a brick wall as nothing was getting past him. They suffered another body blow as QPR broke on the counter attack and Platt finished a good move as Forest found themselves two down having dominated the match!!!! In the second half, Forest just bombarded the QPR goal but Royce was in inspired form. They finally got a goal through Kazubowski midway through the second half. It was all hands on deck for QPR as Forest went in search of an equaliser. Royce kept them out and QPR went away with an undeserving three points!!!

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 1 v 2 QPR

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (66)

Goals - QPR - Bircham (pen,25), Platt (36)

Sent Off - Dominic Shimmin (QPR)

Att - 29963

MOTM - Simon Royce (QPR)

Championship

Preston v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 29th September 2007

Forest ended the month with a trip to promotion hopefuls Preston in what was meant to be a tough game. Forest made light work of Preston, still feeling aggreived they did not take points from their last game at home to QPR. The man who got the goals was Roland Kazubowski who had had a quiet start to the season but is finally scoring goals again. Forest were immense at the back, especially Mark Hudson was an abolsute rock when preston were pressing to get back into the game. In the end a goal either half was enough to give Forest a super win.

Final Score - Preston 0 v 2 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (14,63)

Att - 20474

MOTM - Mark Hudson (Nottingham Forest)

It has been a really good month for Forest who are scoring plenty of goals and now they seem to have their defence sorted after leaking goals left, right and centre at the beginning of the season. Hepburn can only hope his team takes this form into October as they try to push for promotion.

Reading Report

Session Dates: 6th & 8th June 2006

Results

Reading_home.png Reading 5 vs 1 Leeds Leeds_away.png

Reading Scorers: Shane Long (9 & 66), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (26), Brynjar Gunnarsson (31) & Steve Sidwell (75)

Leeds Scorer: David Healy (1)

Attendance: 24,095

MOM: Steve Sidwell (Reading)

I went into this game with one goal in mind, that goal was to teach Leeds not to sack a fellow EFB member and that goal was achieve a sensational masterclass performance from Reading. I didn’t think Leeds gave Dave much of a chance, kinda like what happened to me with Ipswich. Anyway Shane Long proved his scoring credentials by scoring a double salvo on his senior debut with goals from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & Brynjar Gunnarsson in between and a goal from Steve Sidwell to complete the thrashing.

Reading_home.png Reading 5 vs 0 Luton Luton_away.png

Reading Scorers: Pedro Vega (38 & 58), Chris Riggott (60), Shane Long (85) & Stephen Hunt (90)

Attendance: 17,194

MOM: Steve Sidwell (Reading)

Red Cards: Julian Bennett (Luton) (50)

A second thrashing in a row for Reading with Luton in the firing line this time. Having a player sent off was not going to help Luton’s cause as Reading was on goal scoring mood. Reading’s domination of the match started in the 38th minute with Pedro Vega’s first goal for Reading and he followed it up with a 2nd goal in the 58th Minute. Chris Riggott scoring 2 minutes later, Shane Long scored 5 five minutes from the final whistle but Reading was not finished at a minute into injury time Stephen Hunt popped up to score a rare goal.

coventry_home.png Coventry 0 vs 0 Reading Reading_away.png

Attendance: 24,613

MOM: Clive Clarke (Coventry)

Dull game this one, Dave’s new team has a good solid defence that prevented my side capitalising on the chances we had.

2nd Round

swindon_home.png Swindon 0 vs 2 Reading Reading_away.png

Reading Scorers: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (73 & Pen 76)

Attendance: 6,675

MOM: Brynjar Gunnarsson (Reading)

Easy match for Reading with Ole Gunner Solskjaer scoing the only two goals of the game including one from the penalty spot, Swindon didn’t really put up much of a fight.

championship.gif

WBA_home.png West Brom 3 vs 0 Reading Reading_away.png

West Brom Scorers: Nathan Ellington (14), Zoltan Gera (26) & Richard Chaplow (82)

Attendance: 30,400

MOM: Nigel Quashie (West Brom)

Red Cards: Stephen Wright (Reading) (90)

Oh well the unbeaten run had to end sometime and it ended in a heavy defeat to promotion hunting West Brom who look for a quick return to the premiership. Stephen Wright’s sending off didn’t really effect the result as he was sent off in injury time after the damage was already down.

Reading_home.png Reading 0 vs 0 Sheff Utd SheffUtd_away.png

Attendance: 22,808

MOM: Chris Riggott

Red Cards: Alan Quinn (Sheff Utd) (80)

Another boring 0-0 draw and this time against Steff. I felt we should have won this match but Steff’s defence seemed to be strong and we couldn’t capitalise on the extra man on the pitch in the last 10 minutes of the game.

brentford_home.png Brentford 0 vs 2 Reading Reading_away.png

Reading Scorers: Paul Robertson (54) & Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (66)

Attendance: 8,175

MOM: Stephen Wright (Reading)

Back to winning ways again and with Reading dominating this match it took second half goals from Paul Robertson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to secure the three points. I am very pleased with Solskjaer’s form at the moment and I’m glad I bought him off Sandy.

Reading_home.png Reading 1 vs 2 Hartlepool hartlepool_away.png

Reading Scorer: Stephen Hunt (66)

Hartlepool Scorers: Ben Wright (37 & 42)

Attendance: 22,865

MOM: Jim Provett (Hartlepool)

Bit disappointed with this loss, Hartlepool had a good first half but Reading were by far the better side in the second half and should have got a point from this game but Stephen’s side kept hold of the 1 goal advantage to take the 3 points.

yeovill_home.png Yeovil 0 vs 2 Reading Reading_away.png

Reading Scorers: Leroy Lita (8 & 48)

Attendance: 3,404

MOM: Leroy Lita (Reading)

Leroy Lita returned to the side after recovering from injury to score the only two goals of the match to see off Championship newcomers Yeovil. Both sides had their chances but Reading were the only side to capitalise.

derby_home.png Derby 1 vs 0 Reading Reading_away.png

Derby Scorer: Dexter Blackstock (23)

Attendance: 27,067

MOM: Dexter Blackstock (Derby)

Not a very good performance from Reading in this match as were barely escaped with a 1-0 defeat and we couldn’t get any shots on target. Reading have to improve their consistency if we are to get the Automatic promotion place.

Championship Position at end of sessions: 5th

9th September 2007

With a midweek match in the UEFA cup exciting the team, everyone was keen to play for their place! Despite an early setback when Figueroa put Villa ahead, Palace looked in control, but had to wait until the stroke of half time for Nikola Zigic to grab the deserved equaliser! Disaster struck in the second half when Milan Baros restored Villa’s lead, and Shay Given performed heroically in goal to stop Palace grabbing the equaliser they so strived for, while earning himself the man of the match award icon13.gif

After the undeserved defeat against Villa, Rouch had to pick his men up for the UEFA cup tie, and the lads responded well with a fine win in their first European game icon_biggrin.gif Olivera settled the team into the game with a delightful goal early in the first half. The Eagles increased their dominance in the second half with goals from Diego and Collins John giving them a very nice cushion to take to Bulgaria for the second leg. A fantastic game to follow the first European game, Liverpool, European Legends, at Selhurst Park. Andy Johnson whipped in the opener for the home side only to see Luis Garcia equalise just before the half hour. But this game was one full of twists and turns, and the next twist was Guarin restoring the lead 3 minutes later! The second half saw Andy Johnson complete his hatrick with two further goals that also earned him the Man of the Match award. Cisse pulled a late consolation goal out of the bag but the day belonged to Palace icon_biggrin.gif

Johnson added another two from open play before the half hour . Olivera made it 4-0 shortly after the restart, and Barry Opdam missed the opportunity to make it 5 when he missed a penalty. This seemed to awaken the Man City players and they started to attack with more confidence and were rewarded when Smith pulled what turned out to be a consolation goal back with 15 minutes to go, but Palace retained the momentum and won comfortably. Wolves fans, If you thought Hoddle was bad you ain't seen nothing yet!

After the expected sacking of Glenn Hoddle Wolves fan had been expecting the club to appoint a somewhat decent manager, oh how their dreams were shattered in the most cruel of ways..........they got me as their manager!

My ambitions for club? well the board expected my achieve a safe mid table position, I'll give them that (no doubt in league one).

The board have also been kind enough to give me some cash which i'll no doubt waste on some random diddies.

I don't know what people should expect from me, but one thing is for sure if its anything like my reign of terror at Bramall lane it should be pretty painful viewing.

So Palace have qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Cup but have drawn a mightily tough group with giants Ajax, Rangers Espanyol and Wisla. Sitting 4th in the premiership things just seem to be getting better and better for the Palace fans who can hardly believe the last two and a half years!

Ivana pulled one back for the visitors and the game became a lot more even from that point with both sides probing. Tom Soares extended the lead in the second half and Palace looked like they were going to run away with it but an own goal from Borja brought Cardiff right back in it,! Olivera sprang into life 2 minutes later to restore the 2 minute buffer and sent Palace 3-12 up at the break. Andy Johnson extended the buffer with a typical strike shortly after the restart. May be so but at least I stick around when I don't get the results and money I want and I don't issue ultimatums to get myself the sack. icon_smile.gif

Besides I got Reading to the playoffs twice in a row with the boards expectations stating the expect me to get reading to a respectable league position.

One thing you should know about me, I never resign from a club and I never intentionally get the sack by giving ultimatums. I'll only leave the club if 1) I get offered a job at a high club or 2) Get Sacked without issuing a Ultimatum.

Give me some credit I've stuck with Reading even though they have had bad results and missed out in two playoffs against the same side, Preston.

Well Andy you were only at Southampton for 1 season and a quarter and a a expert like yourself should know that 9 out of 10 times you issue a ultimatum with a season and a quarter under your belt you will get sacked. it takes a minimum of 3 seasons before they respond positively to a ultimatum.

So Palace are still defying the odds sitting 4th in the premiership, still in the Carling and Uefa cup. This month sees the culmination of the group stage of the UEFA cup and Rouch now believes his squad have the quality to qualify for the knockout stages icon_eek.gif

ajax_home.pngAjax Vs Crystal Palacepalace_away.png

1st November 2007 – UEFA Cup Group B

A real corker of a game for the neutral! Palace trailed throughout but kept fighting back! Sneijder opened the scoring for the home side but Recoba equalised shortly after only to see Gopel regain the lead just before the break!! Helder extended the lead after the restart and Palace wqere struggling! Collins John injected a bit more urgency about the Eagles play when he pulled one back shortly after but Cneijder regained the two goal advantage less than 10 minutes later. Nikolas Zigic made it 4-3 and Palace bombarded the Ajax goal for the remainder of the game but were unable to level the match icon_frown.gif

A very tight affair with both sides enjoying their fair share of possession! It was no surprise when the first half ended even, but it was a surprise that it was goal less. Andy Johnson drew first blood with a well executed shot just after the hour mark to put Palace ahead , and 15 minutes later Collins John made it 2-0, a scoreline that did not do Portsmouth efforts justice icon15.gif an indication of the imbalance, and part of the reason, was Peter Ramages performance in defence, which earned him the man of the match award! icon_cool.gif

The Forest Frenzy - The play off battle has begun!!!!!

It has been an action packed October for Forest as the games came at them thick and fast. The players had a nice break at the start of the month as internationals were upon us and Hepburn also went on a nice break to recharge the batteries. In the Championship race it seems no one wants to take this league and run away with it as teams seem to be very inconsistent. Hepburn is hoping his team can put a run together that may see them take the top spot and control the league. Here is the latest goings on at the City Ground......................

Championship

Nottingham Forest v Brighton - (H) Sat 13th October 2007

An effiecent performance from Forest here as they ran out easy 2-0 winners of lowly Brighton. It was a very one sided contest from start to finish with both goals coming in the first half from the front two of Harewood and Kazubowski. They coasted to victory from then on and they really did take the foot off the gas in the second half but Brighton provided no threat at all. Hepburn was pleased with the team's performance and it was an easy three points.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 2 v 0 Brighton

Goals - Forest - Harewood (9), Kazubowski (33)

Att - 28817

MOTM - Marlon Harewood (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Fulham v Nottingham Forest - (A) Tues 16th October 2007

Forest started this match brilliantly and Fulham had no answer to the constant attacking threat from the likes of Harewwod and Kazubowski. Sergio Peter got them off to a great start as he headed in at the back post to give Forest the lead. They were creating chances at will but Niemi was showing all his Premiership experience to keep them out. Kazubowski put them further ahead in thirty nine minutes with a great low drive from inside the penalty area. After the second goal went in, Forest inexplicibly took their foot right off the gas and by half time it was two apiece as Fulham scored twice in a minute from two headers from the exact same position!!!! Hepburn was irrate with his team as they came off the pitch and understandingly so. It got worse in the seocnd half as Fulham swarmed all over the Forest defence and a Brown wondergoal won it for Fulham. Forest tried to get back into the game but there was just no way past the inspirational Antti Niemi in the Fulham goal. Hepburn stormed out the dug out at full time completely irrate at what he had just witnessed.

Final Score - Fulham 3 v 2 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Fulham - Gallagher (44,45), Brown (68)

Goals - Forest - Peter (7), Kazubowski (39)

Sent Off - Darren Purse (Nottingham Forest)

Att - 27211

MOTM - Antti Niemi (Fulham)

Championship

Leeds v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 20th October 2007

Hepburn, completely going mental at the end of the last game, demanded a huge performance from his team after their capitulation at Fulham. They travelled to Ellend Road to take on struggling Leeds and boy did they give Hepburn the performance he was looking for. They hit Leeds for five and it was just all round brilliant performance. Marlon Harewood was rested and in came Helguson who helped himself to a double along with Kazubowski. Sergio Peter then added a fifth four minutes from time to complete the rout. It was good to see Hepburn looking happy again and he praised his players as they came off the pitch at full time.

Final Score - Leeds 0 v 5 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Forest - Helguson (13,69), Kazubowski (38,pen,56), Peter (86)

Att - 28925

MOTM - Wes Morgan (Nottingham Forest)

Carling Cup 3rd Round

Ipswich v Nottingham Forest - (A) Wed 24th October 2007

Forest travelled to Ipswich in the Carling Cup and they were looking for revenge after a defeat earlier in the season. It was a tight game with hardly any clear cut chances for either team. Ipswich seemed content with soaking up the pressure and hitting Forest on the counter whenever possible. Forest were patient and did not commit too many men forward as Hepburn soon figured out the Ipswich gameplan. In the end it was a game that was won from the penalty spot as Forest pressed and were awarded a penalty in seventy eight mintues that was converted by Wes Morgan. Even when 1-0 down Ipswich did not seem to respond in any way. In the ninetyth minute Forest were awarded their second penalty that Kazubowski scored and Forest were safely through to the fourth round.

Final Score - Ipswich 0 v 2 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Forest - Morgan (pen,78), Kazubowski (pen,90)

Att - 10602

MOTM - Heider Helguson (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Nottingham Forest v Coventry - (H) Sat 27th October 2007

There was full house inside the City Ground as Forest took on a struggling Coventry team and looking for three more points. This game was made harder for Forest as they struggled to get any shots or headers on target. They dominated most of the game but could not score. It took an unbelievable strike from Coventry defender Michael Mancienne to put Forest ahead. This was a brilliant strike apart from the fact he put it in his own goal!!!! It was fit to win any game!!!!! Marvogenidis made it 2-0 in the second half as Forest were stumbling along the way to victory. Old fogie Patrick Berger pulled one back for Coventry but it was not enough.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 2 v 0 Coventry

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (21), Harewood (25)

Att - 30578

MOTM - Rune Pedersen (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Nottingham Forest v Sunderland - (H) Tues 30th October 2007

Hepburn was ill for this game so his assistant took over but Hepburn was in constant touch to keep his assistant in line after the last time he took charge and wrecked Forest's play off dreams. They welcomed Sunderland who were hoping for promotion. Forest ran out easy 2-0 winners with goals from Kazubowski and Harewood.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 2 v 0 Sunderland

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (21), Harewood (25)

Att - 30590

MOTM - Marlon Harewood (Nottingham Forest)

It has been a good month for Forest with only the one loss at Fulham. They are playing well and Hepburn is also doing a good job keeping his strikers fresh with his rotation system. They now find themselves in the play off spots and if they could just put a good run of results together they might even sneak this league!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A 5 goal thriller with Norwich playing some fantastic samba football with Norwich winning the game 3-2 . JOrge got them off to a good start scoring after just 3 minutes to go 1-0 up then Kenesei scored for Watford to level the teams . Cacau stole a goal just before the half time whilte to make Norwich go in 2-1 winner s at half time . Right after half time Ian Henderson scored in the 86th minute to level the match with Watford thinking they woul dhave a point but that was not so as Marcelinho rattled home a goal to take all three points in the 93rd minute .

Norwich looked up for this game with Marcelinho scoring in the 11th minute to make it 1-0 but Ian Harte replied 10 minutes later with a thundering free-kick to level the game . Another good performance from Norwich with Drijo Srna getting them off to a good start by scoring in the 9th minute from a beltering freekick. Peeters then scored for Birmingham in the 53rd minute to make things equal but then the brazilian flair showed when Cacua turned the style on and scored in the 75th and the 88th minute to make it 3-1 to Norwich .

Not a game for the neutrals as David Clarkson scored for Everton in the 28th minute which was the only action of the first half. Disappointing match with Chris Riggott’s own goal not helping us and a biased referee on Stoke’s side pointing to the penalty spot in the 36th minute after Solskjaer put us ahead after just 8 minutes.

Good result against relegated West Ham who are trying their best to get back to the premiership at the first time of asking. Pedro Vega’s penalty was enough to give Reading a 1-0 victory over 10 man West Ham.

The main downfall this season has to be Reading’s inconsistency and their defence, I’m looking forward to the transfer window and buy some defenders after this 2-0 defeat against a very strong Millwall side.

Reading_home.png Reading 2 vs 0 Leicester leicester_away.png

Reading Scorers: Dave Kitson (54 & 63)

Attendance: 24,090

MOM: Chris Riggott (Reading)

Better performance from the side and from the defence, Dave Kitson returned to the starting line up to score two good goals against a weak Leicester side.

Watford Scorer: Krisztian Kenesei (1)

Reading Scorers: Dave Kitson (14) & Javi Garcia (43 & 68)

Attendance: 12,059

MOM: Steve Sidwell (Reading)

The form is returning and the side is starting to jell together and produce results and Javi Garcia is beginning to show his potential. Dave Kitson opened up the scoring with his 3rd goal in 2 matches followed by a Javi Garcia double salvo either side of half time.

Reading_home.png Reading 1 vs 2 Wolves Wolves_away.png

Reading Scorer: Dave Kitson (31)

Wolves Scorers: Ikechukwu Uche (49) & Damien Delaney (78)

Attendance: 24,084

MOM: Damien Delaney (Wolves)

Reading Injuries: Stephen Wright (29)

Now what’s the saying again? One step forward and two steps back? It seems that way with this side as they have reverted back to the bad form before the previous two matches. Dave Kitson was the only player in the squad seemingly wanting to win the match.

qpr_home.png Q.P.R 3 vs 2 Reading Reading_away.png

Q.P.R Scorers: Conal Platt (21), Richard Langley (44) & Kevin Gallen (83)

Reading Scorers: Cesar Arzo (31) & Brynjar Gunnarsson (49)

Attendance: 19,131

MOM: Cesar Arzo (Reading)

Reading should have got a point but due to a goal keeping error which is a rare occurance with Enkleman Q.P.R were able to score a late match winner after Cesar Arzo and Brynjar Gunnarsson were able to get Reading to 2-2.

Reading_home.png Reading 4 vs 3 Nottm Forest NottForest_away.png

Reading Scorers: Dave Kitson (46 & 82), Shane Long (68) & Stephen Hunt (Pen 85)

Nottm Forest Scorers: Roland Kazubowski (4), Paul McVeigh (37) & Heldar Helguson (86)

Attendance: 23,714

MOM: Steve Sidwell (Reading)

This will definitely go down as Reading’s match of the season after being 2-0 down at half time to scoring 4 goals after half time to end the game with a 4-3 win. Forest definitely better in the 1st half but after I had threatened to sack the whole squad at Half Time they went out fighting and the man they should all thank for saving their jobs was Dave Kitson who was instrumental in Reading’s Recovery.

The Forest Frenzy - Get some consistency lads ffs!!!!!

That is the cry from the manager as he is puzzled as to how his Forest team can win tough games then go on to lose the next game. We are now into November it proved to be a rather tough month for all those concerned at the City Ground. Some tough fixtures and some not so good performance has left Hepburn puzzled as to what to do next to get his team winning football matches again. Here is the latest goings on from the City Ground.........

Championship

Luton v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 3rd November 2007

Yet another inept performance against Luton, who are fast becoming a bogey team for Nottingham Forest. It did not help that James Harper managed to get himself sent off in the first half, although it was a very dubious sending off as the ref claimed he was last man apart from the whole defence being there as well!!! Luton scored from the free kick and from then on it was an uphill task for Forest. The chances Forest did create were not taken and then in the second half Luton were two up and coasting to victory. Hepburn left fuming at the sending off and let the ref know exactly how he felt as he left the pitch. No doubt a nice FA fine will be coming Hepburn's way for his latest outburst.

Final Score - Luton 2 v 0 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Luton - Patterson (12), Vine (57)

Sent Off - James Harper (Nottingham Forest)

Att - 8754

MOTM - Chris Coyne (Luton)

Championship

Nottingham Forest v West Brom - (H) Sat 17th November 2007

Next up for Forest was a clash against top of the table West Brom who came to the City Ground in good form. The game was a rather dull affair as Forest could not break down the ten man West Brom defence. Hardly any chances and they were half chances at that. Forest could not get going without the inspirational James Harper in midfield. A bore draw in the end.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 0 v 0 West Brom

Att - 30593

MOTM - Steve Watson (West Brom)

Championship

Sheffield Utd v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 24th November 2007

Hepburn's Forest travelled to Sheffield Utd in search of a win and some goals. They came into this game off the back of a defeat and a draw and were looking to get back back on track in their bid to claim an automatic promotion spot. They started poorly and found thmselves two down in ten minutes and Hepburn did not know what was going on!! Forest found a way back into the game as two goals in a four minute spell got them level. The goals came from Peter and Harper and all was well again. It got even better for Forest as Helguson put them ahead minutes later. This was some opening half hour of football and the fans were loving every minute of it. Forest tried to get to half time level but Utd equalised right on half time and really it was what they deserved. After a spectacular first half the second was a bit of a let down. Utd had Stpehen McManus sent off early and Forest pressed and pressed but Utd defended well and Forest could not find a breakthrough.

Final Score - Sheffield Utd 3 v 3 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Sheffield Utd - Rodriguez (6), Morrison (pen,10), Bent (45)

Goals - Forest - Peter (13), Harper (17), Helguson (26)

Sent Off - Stephen McManus (Sheffield Utd)

Att - 32980

MOTM - Sergio Peter (Nottingham Forest)

Carling Cup 4th Round

Cardiff v Nottingham Forest - (A) Wed 28th November 2007

It was onto the Carling Cup next and a welcome distraction from the league. They faced Rob Perry's high flying Cardiff who had thrashed Forest twice last season to get to the Premiership. Hepburn, like Perry decided to rest his better players (supposedly) and Hepburn was really just looking for a good performance against Cardiff. They started off brilliantly and were dominating the game for most of the half and right on half time took the lead through Kazubowski. It was more of the same in the second half as Perry could not get his Cardiff team going. Forest scored a second goal courtesy of Cardiff player Djourou and the match was all but sealed for Forest. They coasted into the next round and this went a bit of the way to make up for last season's embarrassing play off defeat.

Final Score - Cardiff 0 v 2 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (44), Djourou (og,70)

Att - 15128

MOTM - Mark Hudson (Nottingham Forest)

A fantastic win to end the month and Hepburn was hoping the win over Cardiff will give this team the self belief they need to go on a good run of form in the Championship and get their season firing again.

So Palace are still defying the odds sitting 4th in the premiership, still in the Carling and Uefa cup. This month sees the culmination of the group stage of the UEFA cup and Rouch now believes his squad have the quality to qualify for the knockout stages icon_eek.gif

1st December 2007

A tough home match against the bluenose of Merseyside. Everton took the lead with a first half strike from Tokohora on the half hour and that was how it remained until the second half. I am not sure what Rouch said to his team at half time but it certainly worked! Palace started the second half with a renewed vigour and kept Everton under pressure from the off. The only surprise was that the had to wait nearly 20 minutes to get their reward, when Alvaro Recoba slotted home a penalty to pu the Eagles on level terms. The then had to wait another 14 minutes to snatch the lead and the three points when Man of the Match Tom Soares scored what was ultimately the winning goal icon_biggrin.gif

5th December 2007

Another home game and this time the toon are in town! A closely fought encounter with yet another penalty in Palace’s favour! This time Freddy Guarin stepped up and converted the opportunity to score the only goal of the game. It wasn’t all plain sailing for the London club though as Recber Rustu was worked hard in between the sticks for Palace, eventually earning a Man of the Match award for his performance icon14.gif

8th December 2007

A trip to the other side of London to face the Arsenal, and yet another penalty for the Palace (AJ a diver? Surely not!) Jorge Wagner was the man given the responsibility of this penalty kick and he did not disappoint, scoring the equaliser to Sivok’s 7th minute strike. Lauren was sent off late in the second half but Arsenal threatened throughout. The Palace defence worked hard to keep Arsenal out and were rewarded with a share of the points and Borja’s Man of the Match Champagne icon_smile.gif

12th December 2007 - 2007 – UEFA CUP Group B

Palace could not afford to lose this game if they wanted to qualify for the knock out phase of the competition! Collins John was sset up by Tom Soares to open the scoring in the first half but Espanyol equalised before the break with Tamudo netting. Garcia put the home side ahead after the restart but Palace came back, again through the Soares/John combination, the latter scoring again. Tom Soares may not have got on the scoresheet but he was recognised with the Man of the Match accolade icon_cool.gif

This was Palace’s 5th game in 16 days, and against top quality opposition! United dominated from the off but could not penetrate the Eagles defence until shortly after the restart when Ruud Van Nistelrooy put the Reds ahead icon_eek.gif Jorge Wagner preserved the fine run that Palace are on with a wonder strike mid way through the half to ensure a share of the spoils! icon_biggrin.gif

19th December – Carling Cup Quarter Final

The hectic schedule shows no sign of letting up as Palace are competing on all fronts! This one was the quarter finals of the League Cup, with the Eagles looking to reach the semis for a third season in succession! That was rarely in doubt in this surprisingly one sided game, with Jorge Wagner continuing his rich vein of form tio strike midway through the first half, giving the Londoners the lead. Recoba rounded off a dominant performance in the second half to send Palace through to the semis yet again!! Tom Soares was nominated as man of the match for his terrific work rate in midfield.

22nd December 2007

And still the games keep coming! Thick and fast in a congested December fixture list! This time it’s a visit to the Valley where Charlton await. Zigic gave the visitors the lead just before the interval and then doubled the lead shortly after the restart leaving Charlton looking shell shocked! Charlton rallied though and pressured the Palace defence. Charlton’s hopes were raised when Bent pulled one back but unfortunately for the Addicks, Leighton Baines was in imperious form snuffing out every Charlton attack after that and they never got another goal scoring opportunity. Baines fully deserved the Man of the Match award but I am sure some Charlton fabns would feel that the scoreline was a tad harsh. icon14.gif

The month of December comes to an end with another tough game, 8 games played this month against the likes of Arsenal, Man U and now Chelsea. Unfortunately, Palace were unable to maintain their magnificent form, and Chelsea swept the London rivals aside as they romped home 4-1 with Palaces sole goal coming from Collins John icon_mad.gif

Wolves make decent start under new manager

Since kicking that faith healing loving fool Glenn Hoddle out of Molineux and appointing fellow failure Steff Browning as new manager Wolves have actually hit a decent run of form in recent weeks icon_eek.gif

Here is a look at our last 10 results :

Saturday 17th November 2007 : Wolves v Hartlepool : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-2 draw

A hard game to start my wolves career off with, as we came up against high flying Hartlepool who have been performing above all expectations in the championship this season.

A Damien Delaney penalty gave us the lead in the 18th minute but our lead was short lived, all of three minutes in fact as Neil Mellor pulled Hartlepool level on the 21st minute. The visitors found themselves reduced to ten men four minutes later as Shefki Kuqi was ordered off for a shocking tackle on some random Wolves player - I had opened this was the opening my players needed and that we could go on to dominate this match, but in the 66th minute we found ourselves behind in the game! Richard Hughes fired Hartlepool ahead against the odds, three minutes later that man Delaney pulled us level again, and if truth be told either team could have won this match and I was happy to settle for a point in this one.

Saturday 24th November 2007: Yeovil v Wolves : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-0 win

My first victory as Wolves manager \o/

Ok ok so we found ourselves up against a team at the lower end of the table, but hey! so are we! and three points is three points.

Labros Vangelis gave us the lead in the 25th minute, ten minutes later David Karnka doubled the advantage and Yeovil found themselves unable to offer very little in the way of resistance. The result was put beyond doubt in the 77th minute as Ronnie Wallwork made it three.

Saturday 1st December 2007 : Wolves v Ipswich: Coca-Cola Championship: 2-0 loss

After already earning a draw and a victory in my first two games as Wolves manager it was time to complete the hattrick here by losing th Ipswich icon_frown.gif

In all honesty we done nothing to merit taking anything from this game and the only real shock here was that we didn't lose by more than the eventual two goal winning margin.

By some miracle of football we managed to make it half time without conceeding a goal, and I could only pray that the football gods were in a good mood for the second half to allow us to escape with a point, sadly my prayers went unanswered as Emmanuel Olisadebe gave Ipswich the lead on the hour mark, it looked this solitary strike was going to be all the seperated the sides until the same man struck again in the 87th minute to give Ipswich three well deserved points.

Saturday 8th December 2007: Reading v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship: 2-1 win

This was always going to be a hard game but I feel we caught Reading at just the right time from out point a view, Tony Hall's team have been going through a slump of form of late and we knew we would never have a better chance of taking something from this game.

Things didn't exactly start according to plan though as Dave Kitson gave Reading the lead on the 31st minute. The first half was a fairly balanced affair and we felt slightly hard done by going in one down at the break. We picked our performance up in the second half and we got our reward four minutes after the restart as Ikechukwu Uche fired us level from distance \o/

Both teams plugged away and made chances and a draw would have been a fair result given the way the game had gone, but Damien Delaney had other ideas as he grabbed the lead for us in the 78th minute.

Reading battled away for the final 12 minutes but were unable to find a equaliser and have every right to feel a little robbed over this result as their play merited a share of the points.

Tuesday 11th December 2007: Wolves v West Ham : Coca-Cola Championship: 1-0 <STRIKE>robbery</STRIKE> loss

Quite possibly the dullest match of the season for 89mins!

Nothing of any great note happened (or at least not that I can remember)

Then just as we look good for the draw (I would have taken it tbh) some idiot named Aiden Matranga gets himself sent off the 90th minute! - I think to myself "ok lads just hand on for two minutes, even with ten men it shouldn't be that hard ffs!", Sadly for this lot it was as Greg Halford scored in the 93rd minute to steal 3 points for the London side icon_frown.gif

Saturday 15th December 2007: Millwall v Wovles : Coca-Cola Championship: 3-0

win

Back to winning ways again icon_cool.gif

There was only one man responsible for this comprehensive defeat of Millwall, and that man was Ikechukwu Uche as he hit a stunning hattrick to put Millwall to the sword.

Uche struck his first in the 20th minute and didn't have to wait much longer to add to his tally, striking seven minutes later, he was on target in the second half as well as he completed his hattrick in the 54th minute.

Saturday 22nd December 2007: Wolves v Stoke: Coca-Cola Championship: 1-0 win

Another three points picked up here although we went about it the hard way.

We could have had an early lead as we were awarded a penalty in the 9th minute but Nolberto Solano obviously saw a friend of his sitting at the back of the stand and decided he would give him a little gift... the match ball, well what else can explain this shocking miss from 12 yards?

We pushed forward through the match but found ourselves unable to make the breakthrough, just when the match looked like it was heading for a goaless draw (not for lacking of trying on our part) Ikechukwu Uche appeared from nowhere in the 85th minute to strike the ball low and hard past the helpless Stoke keeper from 15 yards....Job done icon_cool.gif

Wednesday 26th December 2007: Wolves v Leicester: Coca-Cola Championship : 2-0 win

An efficent performance from us here saw us defeat a Leicester team that many thought would run right over the top us.

That man Ikechukwu Uche got in the scoring act again on the 14th minute, David Karanka doubled the advantage in the 38th minute.

In the second half we were perhaps a little guilty of taking our foot off the pedal but the result was never in doubt as Leicester never really looked lik threatening our goal.

Saturday 29th December 2007: Watford v Wolves : Coca-Cola Championship: 2-1 loss

Well then, everyone expected us to beat Watford didn't they?

WRONG!

Marlon king gave Watford the lead in the 11th minute, try as we might we couldn't get back into the match before the break.

King was on hand again in the 65th minute to put Watford even further into the lead (the bitch icon_frown.gif). It was up to the forgot diddy of Wolves, Carl Cort, to pull a goal back for us in the 76th minute, but it was no more than a consolation goal.

Tuesday 1st January 2008: Derby v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship: 4-1 win

Happy new year!

And what a great way to welcome in 2008 with a convincing win over Derby \o/

Things didn't get off the best start though as Gregg Berhalter gave Derby the lead in the 20th minute, but their would prove to be short lived as Nolberto Solano pulled my lot level a mere six minutes later. The Derby hero Berhalter turned villan on the 40th minute when he was red carded for a stupid foul in his own penalty area (conceeding a penalty at the same time) Paul Wotton slotted home the resulting spot kick to signal the start of free scoring 4 minute spell for Wolves. Ikechukwu Uche grabbed two goals in two minutes before the break (43 mins and 45mins) to give us a 4-1 cushion at the break.

We took our foot off the gas in the second half (I wanted them to push on and score nine but you can't have everything I guess) but the result was never in doubt anyway \o/

Reading were in control for the for hour and ten minutes of the match before Sheffield Wednesday started causing trouble in Reading’s defence but Reading hung on at 1-1 to score two more goals which killed off Sheffield Wednesdays challenge. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was absolutely brilliant in this match scoring his first hat trick for Reading and probably a rare hat trick in his whole career.

Tough match and Cesar Arzo getting sent off after just five minutes did not help our cause, we did well keeping the score at 0-0 for 66 minutes but it was inevitable that Preston would score and it came from Chris Sedgwick. Cesar Arzo better be careful in future otherwise I’ll put him on the transfer list.

Wolves add another three games to their unbeaten run

Things have been looking very bright around Molineux way over recent weeks and we managed to keep up good run of form over the last 3 games, here take a look for yourself :

Sunday 6th January 2008: Wolves v Coventry: FA Cup 3rd Round : 4-1 win

A morale boosting cup win is always good and we done it in some style here brushing aside Coventry with ease after some early scares.

Shaun Cummings opened the scoring for Coventry in 24mins, this lead would only last until the 31st minute when Ikechuwkwu Uche sparked off what would be an amazing performance by himself as he pulled us level. Into the second half and it didn't take long for Uche to find the target again to give us the lead (51mins). Uche was at it again as he grabbed his hattrick in the 62nd minute but he wasn't done there and scored his and Wolves's forth goal of the game in the 69th minute.

Saturday 12th January 2008: Wolves v Sheff Wed: Coca-Cola Championship: 1-1 draw

A case of woeful finishing on our part here as we should have really taken all three points from this match icon_frown.gif

Marcus Tudgay gave Wednesday the lead in the 15th minute, and try as we might we could not find the net in the remainder of the first half (and believe me we have a bloody good go at it!). It was more of the same in the second half as we battered away at the Wednesday goal but still were unable to make the breakthrough until the 75th minute when Ikechukwu Uche (who else?) finally managed to pull us level with his well placed header from close range. The final 15 minutes were full of more pressure from us but alas we couldn't capitalize on the chances that came our way - still one point is better than no points icon14.gif

Saturday 19th January 2008: Q.P.R v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship: 5-0 win

A disgraceful day for Q.P.R saw them have to players red carded (Danny Shittu 26th minute and Marc Bircham 90th minute) and play some rubbish football into the bargin!

Ronnie Wallwork started the ball rolling in this one with his 18th minute strike. David Karanka grabbed a quick double (33mins and 36mins) to give us a 3-0 lead at half time. The second half looked like it wasn't going to give us anymore goals until another quickfire double (86mins and 90mins) this time from Ikechukwu Uche saw the score go to 5-0 in our favour.

The Forest Frenzy - Santa has came early to the City Ground!!!!

The month of December for Forest has been nothing other than absolutely fantastic. Hepburn has got them playing some fantastic football as things are hotting up in the Championship. The race for the title is so close to call just now as no one wants to grab it and run with it. Forest find themselves in second spot level with Preston and Sunderland. Hepburn is hoping his team can maintain there good run of form and go on a long unbeaten run. Here is the latest from the City Ground......................

Championship

Fulham v Brentford - (H) Sat 1st December 2007

The start of December saw Brentford travel to the City Ground and they left with a thrashing. Forest played some great football and were clinical in front of goal. The star of the show was Marlon Harewood who grabbed a glorious hat trick and his strike partner Kazubowski got on the scoresheet aswell. A very one sided game that Forest won very easily.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 4 v 0 Brentford

Goals - Forest - Harewood (30,35,90), Kazubowski (pen,71)

Att - 28049

MOTM - Marlon Harewood (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Hartlepool v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 8th December 2007

A tough game for Forest here as Hartlepool have been in great form under new manager Stephen Gold this season, although the great man was away either sick or in jail for underage sex so it was left to his assistant to take over. A back and forth game that either side could have won as twice Le Pool were ahead twice only for Forest to come storming back and level. It was settled in the last minute and it was that man magic Marlon who sealed a valuable three points for Forest.

Final Score - Hartlepool 2 v 3 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Hartlepool - Mellor (17), Galasso (41)

Goals - Forest - Harewwod (12,90), Kazubowski (79)

Att - 10888

MOTM - Marlon Harewood (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Nottingham Forest v Ipswich - (H) Tues 11th December 2007

The games were coming thick and fast for Forest as they entertained Ipswich at the City Ground. The players were playing with so much confidence it seemed as if they wanted more games to keep up this nice run of form they were in. They disposed of Ipswich quite easily and were dominant throughout. We had Harper pulling the strings in the midfield and with Harewwod and Kazubowski up front they were always going to create chances. Kazubowski grabbed a superb double, getting one in either half and Helguson a first half sub for the injured Harewood came on and grabbed a goal. It was another one sided game as Ipswich were poor. Another three points for Forest though so who was complaining!!!

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 3 v 1 Ipswich

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (26,pen,89), Helguson (49)

Goals - Ipswich - Bowditch (77)

Att - 30277

MOTM - Danny Szetela (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Reading v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 15th December 2007

People have often said that football is a game of two halves and this was a perfect example of that saying. The first half Forest were dominant and were coasting at 2-0 up with goals from Kazubowski and McVeigh. Things changed for the worse in the second half as a Dave Kitson inpsired Reading came out in the second half and blew Forest off the pitch. Hepburn just stood in shock while Tony Hall was jumping around the Madejski stadium like a complete lunatic!!! Four second half goals from Reading and Hepburn was looking for someone to kill!!! It was a fantastic comeback from Reading but the Forest defence just seemed to crumble under the pressure which must be somewhat alarming to Hepburn.

Final Score - Reading 4 v 3 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Reading - Kitson (46,82), Long (68), Hunt (pen,85)

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (4), McVeigh (37), Helguson (86)

Att - 23714

MOTM - Steve Sidwell (Reading)

Carling Cup Quarter Final

Wigan v Nottingham Forest - (A) Tues 18th December 2007

A tough draw for Forest in the cup saw them just come up short against a good Wigan side. It started so well for Forest as Kazubowski put them ahead in twenty minutes. Unfortunately for Forest they only held onto their lead for six minutes as Wigan scored from the penalty spot. From then on it was back and forth but in the end superior finishing from Wigan saw them safely into the semi finals of the Carling Cup. Fantastic effort from the Forest team but just not enough quality up front.

Final Score - Wigan 2 v 1 Nottingham Forest

Goals - Wigan - Perry - Acton (pen,26), WIlson (64)

Goals - Forest - Kazubowski (20)

Att - 21481

MOTM - Mark Hudson (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Nottingham Forest v Yeovil - (H) Sat 22nd December 2007

A comprehensive victory for Forest against a struggling Yeovil side, desperate for points. Three goals in the first half hour were enough to give them victory. The star of the show was James Harper who scored a double. Danny Szetlea grabbed a goal as well. In the second half, Forest just coasted through it and at times it was more like a practice match. Good three points for Forest though.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 3 v 0 Yeovil

Goals - Forest - Harper (10,26), Szetela (17)

Att - 28139

MOTM - James Harper (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

Nottingham Forest v Stoke - (H) Wed 26th December 2007

Forest were playing with a lot of confidence going into this game against Stoke and it showed. Another fantastic performance and another three points for Forest. Hepburn wanted revenge as they lost to Stoke earlier in the season. They left it late as Stoke defended extremely well but eventually Forest found the breakthrough through Harper and then in injury time Szetela sealed the three points for Forest.

Final Score - Nottingham Forest 2 v 0 Stoke

Goals - Forest - Harper (78), Szetela (90)

Att - 29044

MOTM - Darren Purse (Nottingham Forest)

Championship

West Ham v Nottingham Forest - (A) Sat 29th December 2007

Forest ended the year on a sour note as yet again they were beaten at the hands of West Ham for the second time this season. Forest went in at half time 2-1 ahead with two goals from James Harper yet again against his former club. This was after Greg Halford had put the Hammmers ahead. In the second half another two goals from Halford put West Ham ahead and then midfielder Felipe got himself red carded to send Forest spinning to defeat.

Final Score - West Ham 3 v 2 Nottingham Forest

Goals - West Ham - Halford (15,50,57)

Goals - Forest - Harper (27,45)

Sent Off - Felipe (Nottingham Forest)

MOTM - Greg Halford (West Ham)

So a poor note to end the year on but I am sure it will only be a minor blip in Forest's charge to the Premiership. Bring on the new year and more Forest victories!!!
