On certain player eligibility errors on competition rules in FM

Recommended Posts

Hopefully SI have fixed some of the competition rule errors regarding player eligibility found in previous installments of FM. Here are a couple I've found/noticed:

Finnish Leagues and Cups

There are no age restrictions on eligible players. That means players aged 16 or under can play in official matches in all Finnish competitions. In FM only players aged 17 or more can play in official matches, so this is erroneous in the game. Some real life examples of players who have played at the age of 16 or under include Teemu Tainio (16 years at FC Haka), Jari Litmanen (16 years at Reipas Lahti), Mikael Forssell (16 years at HJK), Lauri Dalla Valle (15 years at JIPPO) among others. Please fix this.

International Youth Competitions

U21 and U19 international competitions have an age restriction, but it is misrepresented in the game. For instance the ongoing U21 European Championships Qualifying, which ended yesterday, has the same age limit as the actual Final Tournament held next summer. That means that the age limit (in fact D.O.B. limit) was set at the start of the qualifying competition and will not change for the final tournament. That means that "overage" players will be eligible for the final tournament as well as for the qualifying round. If a player turns 22 during this time, it does not exclude him from being eligible to play in the qualifying or final tournament. This same applies to any U19 competitions. In FM the day a player turns 22 (or 20 for the U19 team) he becomes ineligible to play for the U21 side. In real life there can be players taking part in the final tournament who are 23 years old as the 21 age limit was at the beginning of the qualifying round and the final tournament takes place two years after that. So hopefully SI have fixed the youth international age restrictions to follow real life. If not, then fix them quickly.
