SkinsiePompey
I'm the Torquay United manager approaching my 2nd season. I somehow managed to get 3 African players to accept my contract offers. These players were Appiah (51 caps for Ghana) Atouba (42 caps for Cameroon) & Salifou (46 caps for Togo). All of these players have resided in the UK before yet I can't get work permits. I'm gutted as I know if I could get them I'd probably get up to League 1 in the near future. Is this a glitch that their permits get turned down or is there a reason I can't sign them? Anyone else experience similar issues?
mije1983
They need to have appeared in 75% of their countries games in the last 2 or 3 years. Also the country has to be ranked in the top 75 in the FIFA rankings.
Metagod
This is a problem for lower league/division teams. When I got promoted I found getting players abroad much easier. It is one of the challenges you need to overcome, that's how I look at it.
mije1983
Mije1983, they can get around that rule if they are a great talent, so young players who have the potential to be very good. Yeah they can, but I don't think the 3 players the OP posted about would come under that category! I think you have to argue they are better than a similar player who already 'works' in the country. Unfortunately it's hard to do that in lower leagues which is why people have problems.
SkinsiePompey
It's a shame. The one surprise was Salifou. He's spent 4 years with Villa so I thought he'd be able to stay surely. Clearly not Oh well another mid table season on the cards for the Gulls it seems.

Fookison
Same with my Blyth Spartans save. Been trying to get this young and talented Canadian goalie over several times, but cannot obtain the necessary approval for work permit. Bummer!
Charlie_B
This sounds perfectly realistic to me given our xenophobic Government and incompetent Border Agency!
