bigturnip
In the game it says that you must have at least 8 homegrown players in your maximum 25 man squad, but this isn't the real rule, the rule is that you can't have any more than 17 non homegrown players in your maximum 25 man squad, there is no requirement to have any homegrown players. Is this a bug or is it done like this for a reason?
pigfacemonkeyman
The rule is that you must have 8 homegrown players in your squad of 25, for every one short of 8 you must reduce your named squad by one. Six of one etc.

FM simply says a minimum of 8 homegrown players and that's not a Premier League rule.

I know, hence the 'Six of one etc. (..& half a dozen of the other) But it is the rule. http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~2094341,00.html second last paragraph. EDIT: This makes it clear; http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~1797582,00.html

EDIT: This makes it clear; http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~1797582,00.html I agree, both our explanations are the same, but isn't it reflected in FM where it simply says a minimum of 8 homegrown players when in fact there is no minimum. The Premier League Handbook says "maximum of 25 Players eligible to participate in League Matches during a Season of whom a maximum of 17 may not be Home Grown Players" http://www.premierleague.com/page/Handbook/0,,12306,00.html I'm just curious why FM has a stipulation listed that doesn't exist, the game is working fine and uses the correct rule, but the stipulation that is listed isn't used. Almondo
The way it's been worded was probably just the easiest way to word it as saying 17 non home grown players would get confusing for a lot of people so a minimum of 8 home grown is used. But they mean completely different things, you don't even have to have a single homegrown player, so why does FM say you have to have a minimum of 8? Almondo
I agree it should have been worded something like A maximum of 17 players not trained in England may be registered for the squad.

You're arguing the toss over an irrelevant matter. Whichever way it is worded, be the FM way or the official Premier League way, the effect is exactly the same.
