robertodibaggio
I'm a bit of a techno phobe and I have seen a lot of advice to update drivers if the 3D match engine is a bit jerky. I've had a good look around and seen this mentioned a lot, I assume it's so obvious that 99% of people know how to do it so no advice is given on how to do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Much abliged!
SWaRFeGa
It's for your graphics card. You'll need to find out which one is present inside your machine, then visit the manufacturer website to download the latest driver.
robertodibaggio
Yeah, I assumed that it was for the graphics card. My next question would be, how do I find out which card is in my machine?! Told you I knew nothing :-(
Coen
If you have have an AMD graphics card then you can get Steam to check for updates for you. One of the benefits of Steam! Further info here ---> http://www.ghacks.net/2010/09/16/radeon-drivers-now-distributed-on-steam-platform/ If you don't know what sort of card you have might be worth checking whether Steam will do this for you first, I assume that the option will only be there if you have an AMD card. SWaRFeGa
Depends on your system, but might be along the lines of: Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager > Display Adapters
robertodibaggio
Thanks for your help, I'll give it a whirl when I get home.
wild2475
You can use windows to look for a newer driver automatically via the option SWaRFeGa has given you but although easy it isn't always advisable. If you don't use the windows automatic check then just note down the make and model of your graphics card (and the driver version) and go to the manufacturers website to see if there is any update available. Or post the details you have here and sure someone will sort out a link to a site to check for an update.
daylight
Type dxdiag into your search box and it will give you all the information you will need.
Impale
For Windows. Vista/7 (hopefully) - open start menu. In the search entry just above where you opened it from, type 'Device Manager' (without the quotes). find 'Display Adapters'. Double-click it and it should tell you the name of your graphics card. Long method. Go to Control Panel. Hardware and Sound. Device Manager. 'Display Adapters'. Double-click it and it should tell you the name of your graphics card. daylight
Once you find out what card you have.... ..If it is an AMD card go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx And watch the video's on "how to" If it is a Nvidia card go to http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk And follow the tips. Or if you just want the easy way without the need of deleting old drivers you can as Coen said use Steam for the AMD card.
