France didn't win the World Cup because of Zidane. They won it because they were the best team in the World, and at the time, Zidane was the best player in the world. You can tell me 'till you're blue in the face the "he" won them that World Cup, but he could never have expressed himself in the way he did, without the players he had on the field with him. And then in '06, France didn't lose because of Zidane. They lost because Italy were a superior team.

If you actually believe that 1 man can be the difference in a team getting relegated or not over the course of a SEASON, then you really aren't a "Football manager legend".

Agree with this post. France had players like Karembeu, Deschamps, Petit, Dugarry, Lizarazu, Vieira, Henry, Thuram, Blanc, Makelele, Trezeguet. These were the best players in their position in the World at the time. Its the reason why France won the World Cup when they did and why Spain won it in 2010. Its not down to one player but a collection of world class players to make up a very strong team.
