[FM16] A New Lincoln? (Red Imps in VNL)

Recommended Posts

TLDR version below

~~~~
In this alternate reality, dark times are afoot for Lincoln City Football Club.  Unforeseen circumstances meat that the once proud club had become strapped for cash, and as such could no longer afford to run and, as such, was forced to close in mid-June 2015.  The club withdrew from the Vanarama National League and folded, leaving their players and staff without jobs and forced to seek employment elsewhere.  Another classic football club fades into the pages of history.
Meanwhile, a long way south of Lincoln on the mouth of the Mediterranean, changes are also incoming.  Having recently been elected as a fully-fledged member of FIFA, Gibraltar is undergoing somewhat of a footballing revolution.  With big plans to step up the infrastructure, a new national stadium is due to be completed in Autumn 2016, the Europa Point Stadium.  Ultra-modern, and fit for international matches, the national team is looking forward to playing in a purpose-built facility to spearhead their growth.  With special dispensation, the national team will be allowed to use the Victoria Stadium for national matches until the new stadium's completion instead of being forced to play in a larger stadium in Portugal.
At the same time, the richest person living in Gibraltar, self-made multi-millionaire U.S. national Ruth Parasol, is looking for new business ventures.  Being close to the new footballing developments in the nation, she took the opportunity to complete the purchase of the country's most successful team, Lincoln Red Imps.  However, she was disdainful of the quality of the Gibraltarian league and, hearing of the demise of Lincoln City and knowing that Welsh teams compete in the English leagues, she saw no reason as to why a Gibraltarian club, itself a principality of the United Kingdom, couldn't also.
Many negotiations and much money spent later, Lincoln Red Imps' application to the Vanarama National League was accepted (upon agreeing to renounce their spot in the Champions' League after winning the Gibraltarian league the previous season), and took the place of the recently departed Lincoln City for the 2015/2016 season.  The current players and backroom staff signed lucrative full-time contracts using the new owner's funds.  Parasol also used her influence in Gibraltar to arrange for the team to use the 8,000-seater Europa Point Stadium from the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, and hopes for the team's presence in the English leagues to spearhead the growth of Gibraltarian football across the continent, and indeed the world.  The story is also spreading, and the Red Imps are growing in popularity as a result.
What happens next, is up to you...
TLDR version:
  • Lincoln City have been set as extinct and removed from the Vanarama National League.  Lincoln Red Imps have been added to the league in their place.  All Lincoln City players and staff are now free agents.
  • Previously extinct club Gibraltar FC have been revived, and have taken the Red Imps' place in the Gibraltarian Premier League.
  • Lincoln Red Imps have had their nation and continental qualification nation set to England, with the based nation still set to Gibraltar.  The club now functions exactly the same as Swansea and Cardiff in that their regens are mostly Gibraltarian.
  • Europa FC take the Red Imps' place in the Champions League qualifiers.
  • Added Ruth Parasol to the game, set her as the club's owner and as a Background Sugar Daddy.  Added an unemployed Gibraltarian chairman as the club's chairman.
  • All current players and playing staff have been retained, with players in the database that are currently at the club in real life added.  Their CA/PA is unaltered (except those whom had their CA and/or PA set to 0, in which case they have been edited to be similar to the current players at the club and/or in the division.
  • Increased club reputation from 1750 to 2200, which matches the club with the lowest reputation in the division.  No other changes have been made to the club, so their facilities/youth recruitment are the same as they are in the regular game.
  • All players are on full time contracts.  Those aged 31 or over are on three-year contracts, all others are on five-year contracts, all players are on £500 p/w, with those 21 or under on £350 p/w.
  • Added the Europa Point Stadium to the game, which is due to be built in November 2016.  Set the stadium as Gibraltar's national stadium with the Victoria Stadium as an alternate stadium.  This means that the VS will be used for national games until EPS is built, and EPS will hold national matches afterward.  Lincoln Red Imps will play at VS until 1st July 2017, when they will move to the EPS.  The stadium has an 8k capacity with room to expand to 30k, and is owned by the council, not the club.
  • Changed Gibraltar's region as Central Europe, as it made little sense for it to be South Europe.
The rest is up to you!  I've done various holiday runs on this save while tweaking the editor data and it is perfectly stable.  I'm looking for someone to give this a good run, whether it be as a youth-only challenge or playing a regular game. With the squad you have you should easily reach the playoffs, if not automatic promotion, in the first season.  If someone wants to create a thread in the Careers forum, that would be great...
Where will you take the Red Imps?  Will you use Gibraltarian talent alone to take them as far as you can?  Or will you be developing them into one of the world's foremost footballing superpowers?  You decide!
What about travel costs for the team, it's opponents and the scouts? Wouldn't that drain the finances of such a small team?
That's what I'm hoping will be explored when someone picks up a save and see what happens, I might make a massive difference, it might not, but I'm looking forward to finding out :)
