  1. Yes, he is actually only playing as AM. He has occasionally been up front but never done well there. As he is not natural AM he is rated 1.5 stars better as a forward than midfielder.
  2. This player has been re training position to attacking midfielder for two years and there has been no change whatsoever. Is this a glitch? Should I train him as an attacker for some weeks and then change back to attacking midfielder again? It seems like its not registering that he is being retrained.
  3. He did have a better 2nd season, where he did reach the label world class. ( I have read that ability compensates weak attributes, so thats why I would take a chance on him. Also when I took over Arsenal not many players were that interested and I just needed an instant improvement ... NOT) Most of his goals were headers and I do believe he he must be the player that has squandered the most shooting chances ever since I began playing the flawed FM20 version. I retrained him to not run down left and and now hoping that placing shots will decrease the number of clear cut chances he misses. Having said that Real Madrid is interested and if they offer like 80MM he is gone in an instant. :-) Unfortunately I need to loo into a center back starter and a left back reserve before I can look into replacing him as starter. Lets see, the transfer window just opened.
  4. No he always played AML, scouted him for quite a while. Dont expect him to be any creative force, but be the quick threat cutting in from left wing. Guess I just have to be patient and see if he doesnt settle in eventually. His previous performances for Spain and Hertha justify more than what he is doing now.
  5. I dont really understand the comments about him not being good enough. 30 matches, 14 goals, 9 assists and 8 POM. Highest average rating two last years, most POM two years running and top league goal scorer last season. And he has been improving every single year. On top of that 10 goals in 19 games for Spain. Always playing AML for both Hertha and Spain. I am not saying I expect him to be the best player in the World, but going from there to rock bottom is not natural. You just have to disregard all that cause it takes more to play in the premier league and its natural for him to be the worst player in your team now?
  6. No his attributes are not the best, but ability does affect attributes and he clearly has a high potential ability. It just doesnt make sense that he can play brilliantly for Spain and Hertha but literally be the worst player in my team. As you can see has had a very good progression for Hertha and was clearly the best player for them his last season. Some points: He also has cut inside from left as PPM. He was placed on AML for both Hertha and Spain. The only thing I can think of is that I possibly announced that the price tag doesnt necessarily but extra pressure on the player during the introduction press conference.... I know I sometimes do that. But I have also warned him quite a few times that he has to step up his game if he wants to keep his place. I have experienced before that players can have a season dip and then come back. But this is my record signing I though would take us to the next level but he is not even an average player for the team.
  7. I dont understand how my record signing who was the best player for the Bundesliga champions can become the worst player of my Arsenal team. Tried playing him both as an inverted winger and an inside forward, but he is consistently the worst player on the field. I was thinking he might just have bad adaptability but after almost an entire season I am beginning to believe it will never get better. Can it be he just has a complete offseason? He is after all still rated as a leading premier league player. Does such a thing happen?
  8. 1) Lightening fast wingers (or fast wingbacks) 5 meters in front of the nearest defender waiting waiting and waiting to cross, until he gets blocked by a defender with half his pace. 2) Possession! How can mediocre teams have 60% against you and you simply cant get the ball off of them no matter how you play. Happens too often. Possession I find quite strange in this game. Yes I understand against top clubs sometimes ... but not teams far inferior to you. 3) Playing cautious, slow down pace and time wasting and the team hoofs the ball clear with no danger in sight.... all the time. 4) Winning the League, Champions League, FA Cup and League cup two years in a row and haven't once had an A from the board in that time. 5) Random goals coming out of nowhere. This was something that happened by far the most in the lower leagues when you started out and continued until you built a very good team. I wish I had known that the AI is incapable to naturally show you why you are conceding goals. Because of a mathematical formula, it is decided that you have to loose points in a certain game and the game will do this at random. I would have enjoyed the game so much more if I had know that this is the way the game shows you that your team is not quite good enough yet. Don't try to make any sense out of it! It will almost not happen anymore once you build a world class team. 6) By far my biggest hate is stadiums. This element is so awful I don't know where to start. Having a new stadium built or a stadium expanded is for me an absolute highlight of a manager career. You are looking forward to this a (game) year in advance and when it finally happens it is the biggest let down. If the stadium is finalized in the summer break it can even take months before you even see your new stadium. Not that there is much to see, as your 55.000 capacity stadium is 4 stands with a dull dystopian looking suburb showing between the open corners. (a stadium with open corners????) After an expansion the stadium showed no change whatsoever .... still open corners. For me personally it would take so little effort to massively boost the user experience of the stadium changes. I mean .... not even a small introduction to what will now be your new fortress? If SI insist on having no interesting graphics whatsoever included in-game .... then maybe just some information how your stadium ranks compared to others in terms of capacity and facilities? Imagine what a small video could do? Imagine having an introduction like in the below link below on the date the stadium is announced or finalized. It could revitalize your excitement for your save completely. Question: I requested a stadium expansion 2 seasons ago as the stadium had been sold out for many seasons and it was denied because of finances. Since then the option to request has not been available even though the club has plenty of money. Will it appear again sometime?
  9. I am new to the later editions of FM but remember that once you had created a team that made you champions, it was pretty much given that you would win the league every year after that. Cup games where a different thing, but over a complete season your team would always be so strong that you would come up as winners. Is this still the same in FM nowadays? I won the league two years running and then suddenly lost to a Man U who had the most incredible run. The first 3 years the points were very close at the top end of season though. Last 4 years however, I have won pretty convincingly as the team just gets better each year and its hard to see anyone narrow that gap. I must admit that I actually liked (although frustrating) that a team could manage to beat me after having become champions the first time. That never use to happen and just added to your motivation to build an even better team. It also looks better in the history of the league to have that occasional team have a great season and win... as long of course as you dominate most of the time. :-) Last two years I have won pretty much everything. League, cups and champions league. Now after buying the best striker in the World from Chelsea, the team has again taken a step up and now I have two absolute world class players in every position. Once you have reached that level... is it possible for an AI controlled team to build a team that can challenge you?
  10. Yes. I play an attacking midfielder on attack just behind the forward in my 4-2-3-1 formation.
  11. I always play with with "dribble less" in team setting. Only way to have a decent possession % in my tactics. Also makes the team play faster. Advanced playmaker is the one I dont understand as "shoot less" is hard-coded. If your midfielder has over 15 in long shots why not take the chance once in a while? Longs hots can also be a blessing with very defensive formations.
  12. Mentoring with highly influential players who have lower determination attributes will always pull determination attributes down. Watch out for this. Having highly influential players with low determination can have a bad effect though-out your squad, I have seen highly determined youngsters gradually loose determination over years. The one thing you can do is always choose a captain with high determination and never ask players with low determination to welcome new players. It can be painful to watch when your squad is affecting new signings negatively, but it is something that you over years can gradually change through squad building.
  13. Ok so this is a first. In the latest player advice summary I receive this message on my 22 year old who just started in a champions league final we won. In the "player progression observation" it stated "The Coach fears that The Player may have become somewhat complacent after all the recent successes". His personality is still resilient so I dont know how much his professionalism or ambition has dropped which I guess would be affected. I have tried to do a search on this but very little came up. Would anybody know where I can find more on this topic? He will be turning 23 in a month. Is he sort of a lost cause or what effect will this have? Maybe this will only affect the ability to increase attributes? Being resilient he still has high numbers for determination and pressure.
  14. I have always assigned my chief scout to scout next opposition as I then presumed he would have a lot of free time at the club to also dissect scout reports coming in from around the World. None of my scouts are un-assigned and this I know saw was recommended as the assignment list would then be handled quicker. I assign all scouts to specific regions or countries and if they then find anything interesting I then assign them to scout that player for a month or a number of games. I recently read about having "cross checkers" without specific assignments and that sounded quite interesting. I have tried to search for how Chief Scouts should be assigned but have found surprisingly little info about this. Maybe the title Chief Scout is not that important when you yourself take over scouting? Anyway ... what assignment do you assign your chief scout .. if any?
  15. My youth intake has been pretty miserable the last seasons even though I have state of the art facilities and exceptional junior coaching and youth recruitment at Nottingham Forrest. I would imagine that Mauro is up for the job as he has good stats and is professional. Can he really be part of the problem and should I sign Garrone instead and let him have a chance? Or is it just bad luck getting bad youth intakes for a couple of years even if you have everything in place?
  16. The decline you see from the screenshots was when he was already at the club, so the scouts before he was bought and also the coaches (screenshots) agreed he was world class. This all happened within 3 months. His attributes havent changed. I was wondering if it could be something to do with adaptability and it might bounce back? He speaks fluent English though. His performances equal that of an average player at the moment so the current evaluation seems correct. Before he was bought he was on the fringes of the Brazilian national team with 2 goals in 3 matches so he was pretty good.
  17. Has anybody experienced this kind of decline for a new signing? Both my scouts before and also the coaches after he arrived, labelled him a world class player. I really though he was going to be the player bringing us to the next level, but six months in he is now competing to be on the bench.
  18. Better take up those yoga classes if you want to succeed in the next version of FM. :-)
  19. There really is some sort of "determination bug" in this game. Starting a game with team leaders who have low determination can really turn into a vicious circle. No matter how high determination your new signings have they will be influenced by the team leaders and gradually decline before they finally climb up the hierarchy themselves. By the time they themselves have taken over and become team leaders they will have declined in determination to the level where they now are influencing your new signings or youth players negatively who then start to drop in determination. For 4 seasons at Forrest its just been a constant drop in determination of all the high determination youngsters that have come into the team. Even star signings drop in determination when they arrive. I learned the hard way not to let the captain welcome any players .... determination dropped immediately after the welcome period was over. I have now spent the complete transfer budget in buying Tonali who was appointed captain immediately due to high determination, but unfortunately he has not climbed to team leader. Instead my world class striker with 12 in determination jumped to team leader and now yet another round of determination decreases has hit the team.
  20. Do tactics still get "hacked" if you only use the same formation all the time? Meaning the AI will judge that your tactic has been "read" by the opposition and render it pretty much useless. Doesnt happen to AI teams of course who can play the same formation for decades.
  21. During Covid I bought FM for the first time in 15 years and as a previous addict I was really looking forward to spend time on my guilty pleasure. I am playing Nottingham Forrest and won in the playoffs to get promoted first year. Second year I finished 7th in the Premiership and miraculously won the Carabao Cup . Now in my third season I am maybe going to get a spot in the Europa League. How did I do it? I have no clue as the results seem to come at random. What is even more serious.... I actually didnt have fun. I am so frustrated playing this game that I actually have to remind myself that its all going quite well. I play standard tactics and dont check to much online what works and what doesnt. With the results I have had, you would imagine you would have a sense of achievement.... but instead it just seems like hard work all the time and you never have a sense of what works and what doesnt. It actually does seem like the ME is a step ahead of you at all times and you have never been handed the tools to figure out what is actually happening in a game. It also seems like all games you play are balancing on a knifes edge and the slightest little mistake in the eye of the ME will cost you dearly. I mean its plain and simple mind boggling what you encounter over a season. For the last couple of months I have spent a ridiculous amount of time on this game cause I was too stubborn to give up. I just couldn't believe that there was not a certain something I had totally missed which made this game so extremely frustrating..... and that's when I finally went online to find out that there were so many others that had that same feeling. There are many aspects of the game that are nice but nothing works if the core of a game is thoroughly flawed and it this case the ME brings everything down. As in any field of the entertainment industry a computer game has to be judged on one thing only in the very end. That one thing is if its fun ... if you are having a good time. Too this question I can honestly say that this game has not in any way been fun, far from it actually. It has in fact has been extremely frustrating. Did it get too complicated? Did the programmers want it too realistic? Did nobody focus on "gaming experience". In my opinion the one thing that is certain is that they completely lost the plot on this one. I will certainly not buy FM again... its just not fun. Probably a blessing in disguise that I chose to return to FM in this version as I would be spending way too much time on what was once a great game. Hopefully SI will be able to rectify this, but I wouldnt be at all surprised if they will feel the repercussions of this blunder on the bottom line next year.
  22. In my saved game I was thinking of loaning him at Nottingham Forrest, but at 32 he was rated as an average Championship player by my scouts. Seemed quite weird as he was still dominating and playing extremely well for Wales and had also put in a handful of very good performances for Real Madrid the first part of 21/22 season. Couldn't take the risk though as 25% of his salary was still significant. Were the scouts right? Or could he have played well with consistent football at 32?
