Football manager in an image. Same players, same tactic. Now I'm favourite for getting sacked :applause:

    lol.png

See I always get a little spell like this. Once I find a few tactics that work for me I generally have one go to tactic an another for special reasons an a final one for seeing out games.

obviously my main one is the one predominantly used. Take my current save. Aldershot. Back to back promotions. Huge win loss record (70% win). Over 30 goals scored more than next nearest team.

yet suddenly out of nowhere I hit a purple patch. On my current save in January 2nd season I suddenly couldn’t win. Even against bottom of the league. I put this down to teams changing how they approached my side, injuries, suspensions an fatigued. I had a cracking cup run in multiple competitions. However that meant I played catch up in the league an eventually something was going to break. I was still dominating games an creating chances. Just no luck. Eventually it turned though an now on a 6 game winning streak. All I did was tweaked my approach an tactics slightly until the corner was turned an then returned to my old tactic I was using an bingo back on form.

Career awareness has got to improve. The game always assumes that if you resign, you must have screwed up your job, even though I often resign in my journeyman careers on a high note. Even more absurdly, sometimes the old club begged me to stay and the game interprets this as 'emergency meeting forced resign.' It also completely ignored international management. An old club refused to take me back because 'they didn't know if I had improved due to not having a new job since I last at the club' even though I had in fact won several things with the national team.

Agree. Very similar to one of my points an expands it well.

I hate the “you didn’t handle the finances very well in your last job” type of lines. I literally spent the budget the board gave me? What’s the big deal lol. They could have said actually we need to reduced this.

for example as well on my current save I’m 105 games into my journey man career. Back to back promotions with a side rated mid table at best both seasons. 70% win rate. Whopping positive goal difference. Yet in the games eyes I haven’t proven I can work on a budget, I haven’t proved I can get teams promoted. Basically things I’ve proven I can do an in a short space of time. Just frustrates me. I get it be unrealistic to jump jobs less than 12 months into a career. However 2+ years with incredible success? I’d atleast expect to be on the radar of clubs as a up an coming manager.

Yes! The game simply doesn't recognize the "short term memory" aspect of football in that regard. I'd love for "manager form" to be put into consideration for job offers.

It's similar with the club legends/icons/fav personnel stuff. Sustained success at a club that previously struggled should be enough to earn you "favored personnel" at the very least after a certain amount of time instead of whatever calculation it uses currently. derby performance, relative success based on club history, manager awards, player accolades, media praise, etc. should all count for more.

Glad it isn’t just me lol!

just feel like it’s been like this for a fair few fm’s. I’m achieving god like success an results at lower level. Now I appreciate a large % of real life manager appointments are based of rep or past exploits (big Sam etc) but every now an again you get a club thinking outside the box. Take Huddersfield an ncfc in real life. Stuart Webber adopted the vision of going for Dortmund’s B team coach an lower league on the up managers (David Wagner, Daniel Farke etc). Now that clubs have these visions etc I just wish some would implement this when picking managers too. They certainly consider whether you have history saving relegated threatened teams etc. Just feels impossible to even get considered for even marginally better clubs until at least 3-4 years in.

Early in the save, I had some trouble with penalties especially when I was underdog but nowdays my players rarely miss them. My striker was 7/7 last season.

Maybe it’s just me. Just something I keep seeing on forums an certainly has hounded me for many fm’s now. Just frustrating. If a penalty taker is rated 11/20 ok I expect misses. But when it’s 17-18/20 I’d expect one miss in a blue moon. Heck even at 15/20 I’d expect a good return. Just seems to be so many misses sadly for me an the AI

  5. Apologies. Didn’t even see the funny screen shots thread when I made the other post.

    noticed this little result.

Dulwich hamlet got drawn away to Liverpool in the FA cup. Lost 11-0 an got 3 men sent off. Also Two members of the Ox family had differing days 😂🙈. (One of my Aldershot players on loan there got sent off too).

    09E466F9-183B-4F99-8FD8-549EF4678061.jpeg

  6. Penalties. Plain an simple. No matter how good the key stats for penalties. More often than not my players miss them. No amount of extra pen training solves it. Just seems set in stone that more often than not the balance is firmly in the gk favour when in reality it’s the other way round.

the EU rules coming into play in the uk on fm19 an 20 when in reality I’ve heard little about them to be fair.

Getting jobs I deserve. I play journeyman saves starting low down. Now I don’t expect Barcelona to appointment 1 year in at Aldershot. However if I’ve walked the national league despite predicted mid table, then immediately walk league 2 at a breeze on minimal money, I’d at least expect a high league 1 club to be sniffing, let alone a championship club. Just seems everyone turns their nose up for the latest big Sam, David moyes or who ever is available at the time. I intentionally only sign one year deals in first few years of saves in the hope the compo doesn’t put teams off. Just seems to be a way of life on consistent fm releases. Would just like someone to think outside the box once in a while like real life. Take a gamble on a young manager clearly on the up as opposed to the name whose had more clubs than I’ve had got dinners.

they used to have a sister site called saveonlaptops, but seem to have ditched it and rolled into one.

Ah that will be it! I used that site for my ASUs about 10 years ago lol. That’ll explain why my account is messed. They don’t seem to listen/care to my concerns about this. No big deal though. Got my laptop thankfully.

Yep, definitely the same guy!  Glad you're enjoying the new computer.  :)

Ha truly a small world! Absolutely loving the new machine. Flying through the months now like I use to. Makes a world of difference playing the game like I am now.

Ha brilliant! Small world. Yeah admittedly I don’t really tweet anymore but use to (a lot lol!) (@mattjohnson333 )

thought I best update my SI account considering I’m now 35 an have another baby than what my old bio stated 🙈😂

Agreed about Customer service. I emailed them a few times and basically found out through a bit of research, they are just a reseller linked to a database - you're just placing the order through them. They get a percentage of the sale, as far as I know.

And their website being awful, I disagree, I only use them to find computers, as the filterrs are better than  most out there.

I'd always encourage to look elsewhere if needed.

But I find their website one of the easiest to use.

Oh no sorry smurf. In terms of the website it’s fine. Easy to read an has good filters. (Good prices too).

just frustrated with the member services. Your info about it being a reseller makes sense as I’d never used box prior to purchasing my laptop. However after purchase when I logged in it said I had no orders....but oddly it had my saved delivery address as an old work one which I haven’t worked at for years. I can only assume one of their linked sites I’ve used years ago an my new profile is bleeding through somehow. Just wasn’t an easy process for me personally.

would use them again for the deals an quick delivery though.

I've seen box.co.uk linked a few times here.

I will be getting it delivered to Ireland so just wondering if anyone on here has had any experiences with this?

Not to Ireland but I’ve experience using box.

Product I received. Top notch. Very happy.

customer service? Could be improved. I enquires about blue light discount for serving emergency workers. Received a rude reply saying simply no discounts. Didn’t even get the standard professional company lines justifying it etc. Just no discounts.

There websites is awful. Which for a company selling technological products is baffling. Spend well over £1000 an didn’t even get a confirmation email to say the product was on the way. Noticed the money was gone so checked my box account an it said I had no outstanding or pending orders. Scary times. Especially when the wife noticed 😂. I think the error come about due to box also owning another differently named laptop site (slips my mind) and somehow the account I made on that website 10 odd years ago is causing some kinda issue on box (not that they admit or have fixed that issue).

ultimately the products are cracking as you’d expect. The service and communication as a company needs a lot of work. Especially when customers are spending a lot of money.

The processor is the biggest consideration, followed by RAM.

In terms of RAM, you really want 8GB at least, but 16GB is ideal.

Type of storage (SSD or HDD) is not much of an issue for FM, but you will get faster overall computer performance with an SSD.

Graphics card only really affects the 3D match graphics, and all laptops even without dedicated graphics cards will be able to display 3D to some capacity so a dedicated graphics card isn't essential. You will find that AMD processors will generally be able to have the 3D graphics settings in higher settings than Intel, as the AMD processors tend to have stronger integrated graphics capability.

Another thing to consider is FM is most suited to a full HD resolution (at least 1920x1080).  Lower resolutions will hinder the experience a little as there is less info on screen on match day.

Can only second this. These guys helped me an wow my fm love is back where it was 6+ years ago. Forgot how amazing of a experience it could be with all the bells an whistles.

graphically on a decent screen my saves looks beautiful now.

You'll have a good time with that laptop you bought.  It should also be able to handle pretty much any other game you want to throw at it too, so enjoy!

Totally I can now actually do half the stuff I've always wanted to do but havent been able to (including other games other than fm lol)

Absolutely. Few of the points in that wikihow article ive fallen foul of in the past!

Until you've experienced the other side, you wouldn't know!

The biggest change for me was when I went from a laptop with a 1366x768 display to one with 1920x1080.  The amount of extra stuff you see on screen on a higher resolution can be a huge help.

Totally! So refreshed. With work and family life I don't get much time to FM these days but when I do my enjoyment was being drained as it just didn't have all the bells and whistles I always use to play with. I didn't even think screen size would make much difference but wow! amazing!

  14. Read plenty of times from SI themselves that the star system is a little flawed. Does have some merit though. Until I recently upgraded my laptop substantially i've been playing half a star for what feels like 10+ (maybe more) years.

ME personally...I always like to play journey man saves starting low as possible so lots of leagues is key for me.

  15. Short answer was I simply could not get epic to allow me to play fm20 in offline mode. Other games fine but fm20 it just persisted in wanting internet connectivity.

I think it’s 100% related to that connectivity as well. The issue with my old asus was always, randomly, dunno when, dunno how, but it randomly lose the WiFi an simply refuse to connect to any kind of connection, be it WiFi or phone hotspot etc until a restart occurs.

Tried lots of fixes with my laptop as google seems to indicate lots of people with similar issues. However my laptop has obviously gone from maybe doing it once a day to guaranteed to do it within 30 minutes of being on. What’s causing that (laptop age or something epic related, I dunno, all I know is the issues got massively worse since getting the epic launcher).

either way I finally accepted ASUS just wasn’t up to standard anymore. It was nearly 10 years old in fairness. Bit the bullet an forked out on a new laptop (HP PAVILION GAMING 17-CD1015NA) and wow have I seen the light. I knew my enjoyment of fm was being hampered by a slow, old, 6gb ram laptop. I mean I had to stop using the things I loved (lots of leagues, logos, kits, face packs etc) as the game would take an eternity to process. I’ve finally come into 2020 with my new machine. Wow. Forgot what it was like to play fm with all the extras an lightning fast processing an loading. Hell on my old laptop it take 35mins + just to get to the main menu from first load up!!

so sadly it’s not a fix to my troubles on my ASUS with epic games but no issues to report on my new laptop thankfully. Thank you for your help

Hey everyone! Currently looking to buy a new laptop for FM. I'd in therory like to be able to load a fair few leagues, maybe do a journeyman save, and have ok-ish processing time. My budget is up to $1500 which is i think around £1160.

I've been looking at this one and want to know what you guys think, but also super open to better options.

    Thanks so much in advance!

literally bought this two days ago thanks to the help of the guys on here an it’s absolutely stupendous. As someone who has always played fm full fat, as in loads of leagues, players, logos, kits, face packs etc I’d become saddened as with the last 3 fm’s I’ve had to tone down my experience and size game purely because my old Asus was getting left behind technically. It take forever  just to load up a player profile let alone process a day.

now I expect my new laptop to impress me purely because my old machine was like something from the dark ages. However 16gb ram, i7 has made a world of difference for someone like me.

back playing fm with a smile on my face. Heck even the bigger screens a god send as I can actually use decent skins now. Honestly so slick an sleek.

plus ultimately I can do stuff on my laptop non fm related now that I couldn’t previously on my basic ASUS. Give this a look seriously.

in your budget frame too. 👍👌

Hey @Mattias333 thanks for creating this thread!

Ok, this sounds an annoying issue - my apologies, it can't be any fun playing like this.

About your laptop wifi issue - I could see an online app closing or crashing if your network adapter "vanishes!" Does that issue happen ONLY when playing FM, or will you notice it when doing other things? Either way I do think that's a huge issue, bit hard to say for sure if it's related here but let's see if we can at least get you into FM.

If you want to try FM20 offline via Epic Launcher, you first need to go into the Launcher settings and put a tick into "Enable Offline Mode Browsing" - online stuff like the store won't load, but you should be able to play any installed games. Can you try that and let me know if you can get into FM?

Roger that. Just out at the minute but will try that when home shortly.

admittedly now thinking about it my ASUS has had a weird issue of suddenly losing all WiFi an refusing to reconnect to any WiFi, hotspot until restarted. This occurred after windows 10 was installed. It only happened intermittently an no pattern to when or if it would. However while playing fm18,19 on steam it never effected me an certainly didn’t crash the game. However epic games launcher seems temperamental to say the least in my short experience with it 😂.

i had a play around trying to get fm20 to fire up in offline mode but no what I tried last night I couldn’t get it to fire up.

equally I tried experimenting (basing my experiment on the theory that losing WiFi is causing the issue). I tried intentionally turning the WiFi off an no matter what mode I tried to leave epic in, it wouldn’t load fm20 without signing in. Then I tried loading the game with WiFi an then turning the WiFi off once a save is loaded. This causes a crash that actually supplies a crash dump (which differs from my main problem of just randomly closing without warning).

I will give your suggestions a go once home though. Thank you for the help so far!!👍🙏👍

I’m looking at 2 in 1/ convertible laptops to play FM and web browse.

Budget is £800 but at a push £900.

I’m looking at something that is future proof for 5+ years

So I’ve looking at these currently…

    HP Envy - £850

      Intel® Core™ i5-1035G1 (1.0 GHz base frequency, up to 3.6 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 6 MB L3 cache, 4 cores)

8 GB memory; 512 GB PCIe® SSD storage

    HP Envy £850

    AMD Ryzen 5 4500U Processor, 8GB RAM, 512GB

    Lenovo Yoga C740  £800

    10th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-10210U Processor (4 Cores / 8 Threads, 1.60 GHz, up to 4.20 GHz with Turbo Boost, 6 MB Cache) 8GB RAM, 256GB HD

    Lenovo Yoga C740  £899

      Intel® Core™ i7-10510U Processor

      RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD

    https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-yoga-c740-14-2-in-1-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-grey-10199086-pdt.html

I’m looking at something similar to these types of specs but at a lower price at least in the £800 bracket. Also which processors would you recommend between AMD Ryzen 5/ Intel Core i5 and AMD Ryzen 7/Intel Core i7.

Any other good laptop/ convertible laptop sites I can check out? I’ve looked at Currys, Box.co.uk, laptopout.co.uk,

Would you also recommend getting a refurbished laptop to get the price down?

I’m no expert but some of the helpful guys recommended this to me originally (only slightly above your budget)

    https://www.box.co.uk/1L6F7EAABU-HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-ec1009na_2958259.html

I opted against it an pushed my own budget slightly to a different model but this could fit your request.

  19. Firstly apologies. I posted in another thread but was advised to start a new thread with my symptoms. Basically I’ll be playing fm20 an totally out of the blue the game will close. No error messages or crash dumps. Just vanishes. Like a ghost has hit the ‘x’ button an closed it against my will. No warnings, playing fine an poof it’s gone.

so annoying. Can’t be expected to save every game day that passes.

Getting to the point where I don’t want to play the game anymore as never know when it will crash.

Only thing I’ve noticed And may be totally unrelated is oddly when it crashes it also seems to knock out my laptops ability to connect to my wifi. Only way of rectifying that is to restart my laptop. Odd and maybe Not related. Very disappointing tho as I never had issues using the game on steam with fm19 yet fm20 giving me hassle with epic games. I’ve tried testing by launching in offline mode but epic games won’t allow me to launch fm without WiFi which is another potential game breaker if I ever want to play fm away from WiFi.

epic are stating it’s 100% a fm issue an not theres. Bit disappointing. Already (finally) looking at getting a new laptop ahead of fm21 an wont be using epic games again but would like a fix so I can continue playing at least.

    any help much appreciated.
