  1. Been enjoying a save with Frankfurt. Obviously their fantastic form last season was a factor, however taking a side with sporadic flings with success and turning them into a top side sounds like fun. Plus, only 27 BL titles behind Bayern! 3 signings made in the summer transfer window; Éder Álvarez Balanta signs from Basel for £6m. I am sure he will add some solidity to the defensive line. Cristian Pavón joins from Boca for £3m, fills the AMR slot. Final summer signing Exequiel Palacios will almost certainly be in my MC for another 10 seasons. Now my raid on South America is complete, here are the outgoings; Bundesliga Results A shaky start to the season, as new signings got settled in and the rest of the team get used to how I want to play. However we finally got going, Currently 10 games unbeaten, culminating in a superb win over Bayern 1-0. Having flirted with the bottom 6 for the opening 2 months, our turnaround in form saw us jump up into the top 4. We are looking to at least finish in a European spot, so all is looking good. Europa League group stage was fairly straight forward, 6 wins from 6. We will face Sevilla in the first KO round. Plans for winter transfer window depend on sales or if the board offer me some more money due to a good start to the season. Ideally I'll be in the hunt for a DCR to partner Balanta, and all action midfielder, and potentially a new ST or two depending if the current interest in Haller brings a bid.
  2. Has anyone managed Wolfsburg / signed Yunus Malli? He's my best player on paper, but he's just not doing the job on the pitch. I've got Andreas Pereira on loan as cover and he's playing much better. So, just wondering if he's one of these players with the stats that never performs, or I'm doing something wrong!
  3. Jumped into the Bundesliga, first time in a long time! Started a save with Wolfsburg. Offers a good starting squad, decent transfer budget, one or two quality youngsters, and great facilities. Pretty much a perfect starting club for FM players. First signing through the door is Jorge Meré. I feel it was a good price for him, a player who can slot straight into my first team, and has a lot of potential to improve...I have a vision of Meré and Uduokhai as my DC partnership in a season or two! Pelayo Morilla is a player wh could be our star AMC in 3 seasons, so a lot is expected. Pereira and Origi come in on loan, with no realistic transfer targets available, it fills the gaps I have in the team for this season at least. Also both out of contract at parent clubs at end of season, so this is almost an audition for them both. Titas Krapikas is potentially our next number 1, with some goo all round stats now, whih can only improve. Joveljic a no brainer, so no explanation needed. Jonathan Gonzalez for me looks an outstanding ball winner, and if / when we sell Camacho, he'll slot straight into his CM role with little effort, and some room to grow as well. Josha Vagnoman should be my DR for the next 15 seasons so to sign for less than £10m now seems a easy decision, and will give William strong competition this season. Marko Bulat is not one I've heard of before, but his stats at the age of 16 are very, very good, and I can only see him getting better. Potentially in the first team by the age of 19/20. Opened the season with a 2-0 win over Schalke (Ntep, Steffen), followed by a awful 4-1 defeat at Leverkusen (Camacho). We followed that with a solid 1-0 win against Hertha (Ntep). I'm looking for European qualification minimum this season (top 6), along with a good cup run. I think we have a good chance of the top 6 finish, with Bayern, Dortmund and Leipzig the only three teams I feel that are ahead of everyone else. Our main competition will be Gladbach, Schalke, Horrenheim and potentially Eintracht Frankfurt. I'm hoping three of the four will drop points due to their European campaigns, which is where we can make up the ground. Hoping that I will slowly start to integrate the younger players into the first team, with Vagnoman (DR), Krapikas (GK), Gonzalez (DM), Itter (DL) and Brekalo (AML) all within a good chance of getting games this term. I'll potentially send one or two out on loan in January, such as Morilla and Krapikas. This (regen) guy could be the future of our CM, a free agent at the start;
  4. Cost me £6m in second season with Bordeaux. Started brightly...will see how he is come December
  5. Jores Okore £650k; Will do a job for most teams I feel Álex Robles £1.6m; Solid already, and lot of room to improve Birger Meling £1.1m; Another player ready for the first team, and space to improve Andreas Samaris £1.8m; Transfer-listed, and just 2 stats under 10, meaning he can fill almost any role in midfield
  6. Good to see this thread up! I made a few signings with Toon on BETA, and managed a decent finish in EL placces, along with FA Cup win. WIll post some screens in here at some point
  7. Picked up a couple of really good priced players on my Newcastle save so far. Pieter Gerkens - Looks to be a fantastic creative midfielder. WIll cost around £10m Josef Martinez - Very good price for a PL quality ST. I paid £7.5m, could possibly get for less. (downward arrows due to an injury)
  8. I have same issue with Theo Hernandez at Real. He's been on loan at my club for 2 and a half seasons. Clearly isn't going to play for Real, but they keep asking well over £100m for him. despite me being his preferred personnel, and Newcastle now in favourite clubs, nothing seems to turn his head. Even a CL semi final and CL Final app isn't enough to unsettle him! I've offered up to £74m and they reject immediately. Unfortunately not willing to pay more, and they've just renewed his contract until 2025
  9. Best signings so far on save, going into season 4; Boschilia Alexandr Golovin Willem Geubbels Paulinho
  10. Already got slim replaced, got Eggestein joining, ridiculously low release clause. Also got a Brazilian ST joining, name I believe is Brenner...althoigh could be wrong. Not at pc at the moment, but think Tierney has already moved. Telles and grimaldo are already on shortlist, and the other two I will have a look at! Got rid of majority of staff, I'll post a screen when I'm next online. Kept AM and a couple of others.
  11. FInally finished the first season. Last time I updated, we were heading into the Xmas/January rush. We brought in 5 players in January; Ezequiel Lauría Calvo - Dino Maresic - Hassan - Sebastian - Theo Hernández Young Calvo was a lucky find. I was just browsing through South America. Already made his debut in the PL, and scored on debut as well! Cost £1.1m, one for the future. Maresic was available in June on a free, but with a list of interested clubs as long as my arm, I decided to get him in early, and £2.3m is a good price. Already played a few games, looks solid. Hassan(£2.5m) comes in to give me solid backup for Slimani. Already played a few games and slots in well when required. Another future star I think is Sebastian, who signs for £1m, but unfortunately has already been loaned out to Genk to get a WP. The current squad had one weakness coming in, and that is at LB. I couldn't resolve in the summer, but Theo became available on loan. hopefully I can extend the loan, as we cannot afford his wages to sign permanently. We managed to shift a few. Ayoze had been doing well in midfield/wings, AvR of 7.4, but we do play better in the 4-5-1, where he doesn't really fit in, so £11.75m is a good chunk of cash. Despite playing just three games, we mamaged to get our money back on Joselu (who is actually doing well for Depor, 12 goals in 15 apps). Lejeune had been in and out of the team, and Udinese, chasing Europe, waded in. Other than that a couple of youth going out. Still great form. We managed a 26 game unbeaten run, including doubles over Spurs and Liverpool, and winning both matches in Manchester. However United got revenge to end the run. Can;t quite believe we came so close to the PL title in the first season! If a couple of those bore draws had turned into wins, it was ours, but who am I to complain! So happy to finish 2nd, and we were right in it until the final day. Maybe next season..... The best defence in the PL, not something that is often associated with Newcastle. Slimani this season has been excellent with 17 goals. It took him 10 games to get going, but he ends as the 4th top scorer in the PL. I cannot fault the work rate of the team either, 5 of the top 10 players for distance covered in the PL are part of the squad. Atsu is the 2nd highest AvR in the PL, 7.49 (only Hazard ahead of him). Atsu and Ritchie both register 13 assists each, whilst Merino has the 3rd highest number of key passes in the PL. Karl Darlow kept a total of 21 clean sheets, gracefully 2nd behind the mountain that is Courtois. ---- For the new season, I've been handed a £65m transfer budget. I have already spend a wedge of it, replacing Slimani (leicester know want to keep him), strengthening the midfield and also signing one of the top prospects. Main priority this summer is to signa DL, whether that be Theo on another loan, or find a permanent one.
  12. Got back into a Newcastle save with the new patch. Currently heading into December 1st season, top of the table by 1 point. Signed Jorrit Hendrix (£8.5m), Roman Prochazka (£825k), and Pedro Marques and Boschilia on loan. Outgoing were Diamé (8.75m), Rob Elliot (£1m) and Jesús Gámez (£850k). Slimani took 9 games to get going, but has found his rhythm. If he got to game 10 without scoring he was out of the squad! Merino been the best player so far, commanding midfield alongside Shelvey. Got Rodrygo joining in 2019 from Santos, who looks to be on his way to the top, so the £3.4m fee looks a steal. Currently eyeing a couple of forwards, as Joselu, Ayoze and Gayle want out, and I'm not sure if we can get Slimani in after the end of the season, and at 29, only got a couple of seasons at the top. Playing Control/Fluid, and really doing a job against pretty much everyone. Lascelles is surely on the verge of an England call up, whilst Shelvey is a current member of the squad, but yet to play this season for the 3 Lions. I'm planning to slowly bring in the younger generation, rather than offloading everyone and trying to rebuild. The current squad is bang on at the minute, barring a couple of unhappy players who simply can't get into the team. 14 of the first team is classed as part of the core social group, so that is a good sign. Just hoping for some cash!! PS; I haven't been able to do anything with the thread, due to a combination of work and also family issues (my 10 year old brother is currently undergoing radiotherapy). Also doesn't help that I live in a different country to my family, so logistics is tricky to say the least. It is on my to -do list, but life has got in the way.
  13. I'm into February first season. Currently fighting for a top 6 finish with Stoke and Southampton, but still a chance of 4th, 3 behind Spurs. Struggled to get STs firing, although Gayle in bursts does well. Signed Walter Gonzalez from Olimpia in Paraguay, for just £650k. Did attempt to sign in the summer, but couldn't get a WP for him, but January saw him get one! Broke even in the transfer market. Sakai, Gago and Hernán the only summer signings, with Diamé the only permanent outgoing. January was somewhat busier, clearing the decks and getting in some more new signings. Joselu was a bit of a donkey, so £7.75m for him was snatched, whilst Hernán never got into the flow. Lejeune didn't perform either, so he is gone. Jordan Ferri comes into midfield, whilst Rubén Duarte strengthens the DL spot. Walter as above, looks quality. Final signing was Ionut Nedelcearu, who looks a good rotation option, and can also play in the DM spot. Missed out on Seri on a free, after offering £80k wages, he has agreed United transfer. Summer priorities will be a shuffle up top, and potentially a new DR and GK, plus I'll see what top clubs look to discard.
  14. The opening post is up. If anyone wants to post their tactic, signings etc, please feel free, the more options the better
  15. It's on it's way! But, I'm sure there is plenty of you already on your way with the Toon Army. So get posting!
  16. Newcastle United Welcome to the FM18 thread for Newcastle United. If you're looking for the thread for previous versions follow the link for FM17 and FM16. After a season in the EFL Championship, Newcastle United are back into the Premier League, back where they belong. A successful season, albeit with some surprises and stutters, managing to lift the title on the final day of the season! Champions! Back into the Premier League Over the next few posts, I'll try to cover the squad, tactics, and transfer targets, and some other stuff that I think will be useful. I'll try not to bore you guys too much! Nicknames; The Magpies, Toon Army Ground ; St James' Park, 52,404 Capacity A stunning stadium, if I do say so myself! Newcastle United Football Club (often abbreviated to NUFC) is an English professional association football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The club was founded in 1892 by the merger of Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End, and has played at its current home ground, St James' Park, ever since. The ground was developed into an all-seater stadium in the mid-1990s and now has a capacity of 52,405. The club has been a member of the Premier League for all but three years of the competition's history, and has never dropped below English football's second tier since joining the Football League in 1893. The club has been owned by Mike Ashley since 2007, succeeding long term chairman and owner Sir John Hall. They have won for League Championship titles, 6 FA Cups, and a Charity Shield, as well as the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, and the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Newcastle United has the ninth highest total of trophies won by an English club. The club's most successful era was between 1904 and 1910, where they won three of their First Division titles, and an FA Cup. The club is the 17th richest in the world in terms of annual revenue, generating €169.3m in 2015. Historically the club's highest ranking on that list was in 1999, when they were ranked as the 5th richest, and second in England only to Manchester United. The club were highly successful in the Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s, but have been mostly struggling since the 2006-07 season, and have been relegated twice, in 2009 and 2016. They have a fierce local rivalry with Sunderland, and the two clubs have engaged in the Tyne–Wear derby since 1898. The club's traditional kit colours are black and white striped shirts, black shorts and black socks. Their traditional crest takes elements of the city coat of arms, which features two grey seahorses. Here are our lovely kits for this season. The black and gold is my personal favourite;
  17. It's been on the past three or four FM at least. You bid for a top youngster, and they come back with silly counter-offers
  18. As much as I enjoy destroying PL with Toon, just haven't really got into a save with them this FM. Strange. Might give it one last go before we all switch to 18
  19. Just back from a holiday in Valencia, so starting a save with them Very good squad to start with, a couple of additions and they're certainly good enough to challenge top 2
